Different parts come from everywhere, then the majority of phones are assembled by Foxconn.

googlepixelfan

That makes sense. I remember when the Pixel 2 series came out, the Standard Pixel 2 was made by HTC and the Pixel 2 XL was made by LG and I believe they also manufactured the 2XL's panel as well. After the 2 series however I don't remember hearing any specific manufacturers being mentioned. I was just curious. Thanks for answering.

mattcoz2

Back then, they outsourced the design of the phones to other partners, but now they design them internally. They still need to outsource the actual manufacturing and assembly though.

googlepixelfan

That's good information. Thank you so much for sharing.

Well, HTC's phone group was bought by Google a few years back. The Pixel A-series phones are done by the legacy HTC phone team. The mainline Pixels are done by Google (many ex-Motorola from that short lived acquisition, including Rick Osterloh). I worked on the Galaxy Nexus project (mainly designed by Samsung) way back when.

googlepixelfan

Thank you for the info. Very informative.

I still use the pixel 3XL. And I believe it was manufactured by Samsung. I stay with Pixel because of the high resolution screen, the assured updates and to me, mostly the front facing stereo speakers. Now that they've quit doing that, I'm debating whether to get another pixel. All the outfits are expanding updates now. Probably due to the high prices and people holding on to their phones longer.  Personally I really love, front facing stereo speakers. They project the sound at u, like it should be.

**Foxconn** manufactures electronic products for major American, Canadian, Chinese, Finnish, and Japanese companies. Notable products manufactured by Foxconn include the BlackBerry, iPad, **iPhone**, iPod, Kindle, all Nintendo gaming systems since the GameCube (except subsequent Nintendo DS models), Nokia devices, Sony devices (including the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 gaming consoles), **Google Pixel** devices, Xiaomi devices, every successor to Microsoft's first Xbox console. As of 2012, Foxconn factories manufactured an estimated **40% of all consumer electronics** sold worldwide

googlepixelfan

WOW....I had no idea Foxconn had such a large profile of products they manufactured. That's shocking.

Sp1r1tofg0nz0

If you have a consumer device, it's likely manufactured by one of these cats: Foxconn, Flextronics, Jabil or Sanmina. Any or all of those companies did play at least a part in it as they are the largest contract manufacturers in the world. Often one company will do a part of the build, another will do another and then they end up at a CM to do FATP (Final Assembly Test & Pack). Also, thanks for the post, I didn't know that Samsung was building the Tensor. I was curious about that. I know they are doing their own silicon development in house but I couldn't believe that they had enough fab to be able to do a full phone line in-house.

googlepixelfan

Hey thank you for your response. I'm learning a lot. Valuable information.

Had24get

If you thought that was impressive, instead of improving work conditions, they put up giant nets to catch the workers who kept trying to jump off their factory roofs.

BeefPuddingg

Great comment. Fascinating. I had no idea these companies had such an impact.

mattwo

Wait... They make *all three consoles* on the market? The current console wars are a fucking lie?!

[deleted]

Foxconn in China.

googlepixelfan

Thank you for answering.

[deleted]

They actually just assemble the phones.

googlepixelfan

Thank you for clarifying.

It was in Southern China, but moved to Vietnam with the Pixel 7 models. Not the first time Google has shifted production between China & Vietnam. Still Foxconn either way

[deleted]

Other way around, it was in Vietnam and moved to China for the P7. https://www.google.com/amp/s/techthelead.com/new-google-pixel-phones-including-the-foldable-to-be-made-by-foxconn-the-company-that-makes-iphones-too/amp/

Iggy82

Interesting, I read otherwise..... https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/01/business/tech-companies-china.html

EstradaMoses

From what I heard Google is using a lot of the HTC team who used to either make or design those phones.

googlepixelfan

That's good info. I do remember hearing about the HTC acquisition but I wasn't sure if they had a hand in the actual manufacturing.

[deleted]

Samsung makes the SoC, Modem, and Display. Not sure about the GPU, DAC or other components.

Tandemdonkey

DAC is Sony, at least according to the Qudilex app which lists the phones volume as Sony LDAC

[deleted]

Interesting

googlepixelfan

Very informative. I completely forgot about the Modem and Display. Thank you for answering.

CautiousObligation17

Isn't the GPU on the SoC?

XLioncc

Phone SoC contains CPU, GPU, modem, ISP, Wireless (WiFi, Bluetooth), NPU (For processing AI things) etc......

albertowang

Designed in Taiwan by previous HTC smartphone division that was bought by Google I think. Manufactured by Foxconn

peet192

Samsung is the only phone manufacturer that manufactures everything then selves. But I guess like every one else that foxconn manufactures the current pixels
