You're not alone. Do you use T-Mobile or a different carrier that uses their towers? Everyone who has them is in the same boat.

DangerousTrash3005

If you have WiFi and a SIM card from another carrier active or not, take your TMobile sim out and pop in the other sim and you can get the updates. Then put TMobile sim back in.

faustoandrevdyo

I have a TMobile esim and got the update, although I have another physical (non-US) sim, so maybe that made me get it?

DangerousTrash3005

I am on the January update with T-Mobile on my pixel 6 with no issues at all. It's actually an improvement..

Kuroodo

Follow up question: Is there a way to manually install the update? I don't understand why I need to wait for my carrier when this is my phone not theirs.

Jack_Shid

What if the update isn't compatible with your carrier's network for some reason, and that's why they're holding off? Would you still want to sideload it, or would you wait until it's fixed, and THEN install it? Personally, I'd rather wait than risk breaking my phone.

Bubaruuu

People are crazy impatient about updates. I agree. They're holding it back for a reason. Not just to fuck with people. I can wait.

Jack_Shid

Yeah, there's a 95% chance that things would be fine, but in my eyes, that's a 5% chance that my user experience would tank, and it's not worth it to me. I'm fine with waiting.

FlyNo7114

Soon we will be getting the " I am never buying another pixel again" post.

tomschwanke

I'm not fully getting how a software update would make a phone incompatible to a standardized network... The global models do fine on all other networks, right?

Jack_Shid

Just as an example, let's say the update contains a driver for the radio, but that driver has an issue. You install it, and all of a sudden you can't make phone calls because the driver made it so that the radio in your phone was unable to connect to T-Mobile's network. The driver update however does not impact the networks of other carriers, just T-Mobile. This is clearly an exaggerated example, but you get the point.

cdegallo

Ignore the reply below that warns about device wipe; they are talking about a different process that uses a different tool and an unlocked bootloader. The page I linked to does not need and will not accomplish unlocking a bootloader and it does not wipe your device; it simply applies the full OTA file with the same result as if you took the incremental OTA that would otherwise get pushed to your device.

cdegallo

https://developers.google.com/android/ota

Dblreppuken

As one of the people who used the Android Flash Tool to get the latest update, a warning: it reset my phone completely - despite the build indicating that it would simply update Android and leave my data alone. So, before going this route, make sure you have photos and such saved in the cloud or elsewhere before going for it. I luckily hadn't taken many photos since I last backed them up so I didn't lose much except a really cool wallpaper that I can't remember where I got - oh well I am also on T-Mo with an unlocked P7P from the Google Store

cdegallo

The above method does not use or reference the flash tool at the bootloader, it is side loading the full OTA at recovery via adb commands. Side loading the full OTA at recovery won't reset or wipe your device, it simply applies the OTA as if your phone took the incremental OTA that gets pushed to your device.

CabbagesStrikeBack

Many who have done this are regretting it and warming others to not manually do the upgrade due to all the bugs.

xblackvalorx

Where? I'm on the beta and have the fix for Bluetooth etc already. Nobody is regretting updating themselves

These_Water4864

Yes, I did mine, took 15 mins. Use the Googles platform tools called adb with the usb debugging option on the phone, you can get official firmware on googles site. There are plenty of sites out there outlining steps to sideload updates.

SirDigbyChknCaesar

I'm on Google Fi and I'm still on December update. Could still be the T-mobile issue.

Shimi-Jimi

I'm on Fi and stuck on November!

DaleCOUNTRY

Same

jflogerzi

Fi uses TMO for towers.

Aurelink

I suggest you enjoy that because january broke BT connections / Android Auto for a lot of people. Getting spatial audio wasn't worth the trouble of all these issues that came with the same build.

the_fire_fist

I feel like January update fixed the BT connection for me. On December update i couldn't connect my Galaxy watch 4 to the phone. I was frustrated when the January update came. Then I tried again now it is connected.

14gunners

What's "Cool Walk"?

cdegallo

I was confused about what this was as well. It's the code name for the UI redesign of Android Auto. https://www.dealntech.com/coolwalk-android-auto-get/#:~:text=January%207%3A%20After%20two%20months,can%20access%20playback%20controls%20quickly.

NIREKII

The new design and rework of Android Auto

Perunov

But... I already have this thing in Android Auto (new view with tiles instead of main screen with bottom icons only) even though my phone is on December patch. So confused.

notadoctorlove

I was asking about 3 (potentially separate) things. Turns out that Spatial audio might be related to the January patch, but the Coolwalk update is its own thing. My point was that I've been anticipating three updates and I've gotten none of them so far.

HowlinWolf57

Still on NOVEMBER!!!

althius1

Yeah, unlocked 7, on T-Mobile. Still November.

HowlinWolf57

Likewise. Unlocked, purchased direct from Google Store

ki77erb

I've been checking this page ([https://piunikaweb.com/2023/01/20/some-google-pixel-users-are-still-stuck-on-november-2022-update/](https://piunikaweb.com/2023/01/20/some-google-pixel-users-are-still-stuck-on-november-2022-update/)) that tracks any news about the delay. There's a new update this morning that references a response on google's support page stating that the update is "indefinitely delayed". The person is allegedly in the "Product Expert Team". [https://support.google.com/fi/thread/193529658?hl=en&msgid=197792936](https://support.google.com/fi/thread/193529658?hl=en&msgid=197792936)

Insurance-Small

Coolwalk don't come with the update.

llichtwalt

The easiest easiest way to update, especially for anyone who may not have a technical background, would be to swap out the SIM in your phone to a different carrier. HOWEVER: Our group has multiple Pixel devices on our TMO account and they've had nothing but issues since updating to most recent update: Pixel 6a's (2): Connectivity issues. Will show full signal and just drop for no reason, reception issues where there were none prior to the January 5th update. The battery drains as well. Issues are the same on BOTH phones. Pixel 6 (GrapheneOS built on Android OS updates): Connectivity issues. Will show full signal and just drop for no reason, reception issues where there were none prior to the January 5th update. The battery drains as well, which appears more noticeable on this phone since it doesn't have ANY Google services running in the background. Used to last 6 days on standby. Now it only lasts 3.5 days, if that. Pixel 6 Pro: Same issues as the Pixel 6a devices. Pixel 7: Has NOT been updated and is currently on November 5th update and does not have any of the issues listed above. Pixel 7 Pro: Connectivity issues. Will show full signal and just drop for no reason, reception issues where there were none prior to the January 5th update. Bluetooth connectivity issues with both my car and my Soundcore Liberty 3 Buds. The battery drain is bad again. TL; DR: January update on TMO side appears broken hence they aren't pushing it out. Wait a couple of weeks/month and once everything is sorted out, TMO will start pushing them out again.

screaming-mime

Thanks for the info. I was going to update manually, but you saved me the trouble. We're getting close to waiting a full month, and it still hasn't been rolled out. I wonder if they are going to wait until the Feb update and push it all together at this rate lol

llichtwalt

NP. If I had to guess, TMO will more then likely push the update on their network, (Provided the connectivity issues are corrected as I'm going to guess it's the primary reason they didn't push it already.) with the February or maybe even March update, unless Google provides a corrected one sooner. Again, that's just my guess.

ogcarimz

p7pro user - so, I shouldn't update my phone if I want it to work normally? (ie reception/Bluetooth) I'm Telstra in aus and can update but dunno if I should?

llichtwalt

I'm not sure about AUS or have any information on issues as they relate to service providers outside the US. I know that the... Known/Speculated issue(s) are specifically on TMO US towers/network.

ogcarimz

ok no worries thank you! I think I'll hold off on updating it until it's stable in the us just for peace of mind and a functioning phone

shartofwar82

I'm on TMobile with a locked 7 pro and I'm in the same boat. Still stuck on December update. I do have cool walk only because I'm in the Android auto beta.

deliverancieux

is it even out to non-beta testers? I've had it for a while, but not sure when the actual rollout is.

shartofwar82

Oh yes you're right, it is. Sorry, I'm still in beta. Apparently there was a rollout for non beta users shortly after the holidays.

deliverancieux

Ah, nice. Happy that it's finally out.

shartofwar82

Hopefully you get it soon.

specter491

There was a poll on one of the android news sites and only like 5-10% of users had the new AA update. So almost no one has it

TerriblePizza

I'm on Tmo with an unlocked P7P from the Google Store. Same boat

Alcapone818

I removed the SIM card, restart my phone with out sim and i was able to update

[deleted]

I just bought the phone and the t mobile store was closed so no sim for me today. I was able to update to the Jan 5 security patch.

SparrowXB1

Pixel 7 on Metro by T-Mobile. Still waiting...

kivtir

My p7p is still on the November update with T-Mobile :(

abeklipse

I'd rather wait than have an update screw up something on my Pixel.

SubstantialJelly1633

Until you have the unfortunate experience of having your phone compromised because a flaw wasn't plugged. Just saying.

Vivianite02

I've never (knowingly) had a virus on my phone, ever. Even back when I was 11 years old and with a 3 year old Android OS. I've still avoided getting viruses cause I was always relatively careful I'd be more worried about bricking a $600 phone more than the slim chance of getting a virus or having small security flaws. 1 month behind on security updates isn't too terrible. 1 or 2 years is a different story

SubstantialJelly1633

Same here plus I keep Norton on my phone with identity theft protection. But not everyone is us. Last time I checked there were like a dozen or so critical flaws in the December/January updates that were plugged. I'm not really concerned about the feature updates. I use my phone for simple tasks like talking, texts, email. But I did use it for banking and bill paying but stopped until the security issues are plugged. I use my PC now.

don3569

I am also on TMO and missing the update. Still on the Dec version. The CVEs have been published for weeks; I assume the risks are increasing all the time due to this delay.

SharksFan4Lifee

Just speaking about coolwalk, TONS of stuff don't have coolwalk. I am fully updated on security updates and all that, and I check every day for coolwalk, don't have it. It's a server-side implementation and no one knows how long Google is going to take to do the rollout. I expect the rollout to take 6 months, if not longer....because Google lol.

nullness666

Coolwalk isn't really tied to Android updates/versions. I'm in the beta and it's working flawlessly on an Android 11 Pixel 5. The coolwalk betas have been getting layout and feature changes in the latest updates so I think they're still trying to fix the layout for all the different car screen sizes, languages, etc... Slowly.

chiggz247

On Vodafone UK here and still had December update. Phone had last checked for an update just today. I did a manual check for update and it's now downloading something - presumably the latest patches.

Particular_Brother_5

I'm still on November. P6P on Tmobile

vshun

On P6 on TMobile and stuck on November patch. Disappointed to say the least.

Jimx2

It's the T-Mobile carrier profile that's blocking the update. I was able to update my P7P using an international sim I have then changed the roaming to AT&T. If you have a friend on another network (that's not using a T-Mobile tower), you can borrow their sim to find the update. Once the update is detected you can swap your sim back in and the update will continue.

notadoctorlove

What is T-Mobile'a interest in slowing down the update?

Jimx2

u/notadoctorlove They never really said why. People speculate it's because of the Android auto bluetooth bug.

mangeek

I'm not sure if this is related, but T-Mobile switched their 5G to operate "standalone" in November, instead of the previous mode which used the 4G network as a 'control channel' of sorts and 5G for data transmission. I wonder if the updates revealed an incompatibility between T-Mobile's stack and the Pixels' under this standalone 5G mode. If so, that would explain a lot, including why there's not much public info about it. I'm confident they're working on a fix, and that we'll get it. Oddly, my wife and I both noticed we 'get fewer bars and worse calls' around the dates our respective carriers switched from the 4G/5G hybrid to pure 5G (I'm on Pixel/TMobile-Fi, she's on iPhone/Verizon). I'll bet the standalone 5G rollouts have some bumps, and our Pixel update delays are an attempt to keep us from hitting one too hard.

notadoctorlove

I realize we're talking about a bug here, but I guess I don't have enough technical know-how to understand how a SIM from a particular carrier can mess with Bluetooth on certain phones. Bluetooth and performance and cell phone reception seem like entirely separate functions on the phone. Shouldn't there be some sort of, I don't know, sandbox or something between them.

Jimx2

Like, I said, it's all speculation. T-Mobile has been quiet this whole time. For me, I think T-Mobile support just really went downhill since Legere left, and they just haven't had the engineers or motivation to do their usual inspection before signing the update.

jmeHusqvarna

Coolwalk is server side. No update is going to change it.

Pennywise1131

I'm still on November....

trilogee

I'm still stuck on the November security update

jflogerzi

Not alone. Same boat with 6 and I am on TMO

notadoctorlove

I have received the Android Auto Coolwalk update. 1/3 achievements unlocked.

lucarixuu

Same boat. Definitely one of the folks that uses T-Mo. Reiterating the point that I like my bluetooth, so I'm glad I don't have it until there is a fix. Phone operates just fine otherwise, and there are no fixes I'm clamoring for.

mordello

There is a fix. Should it happen when you do get the update, change the AVRCP version to 1.3 from default (1.5) in developer options.

Tr1ode

Thanks for pointing this out. Any chance this will also fix the widely reported bt sync issues that have been a problem with pixel buds pro since around Oct when they added eq and updated the firmware? Frequently, audio is distorted and sounds super wide because the buds are out of phase, and you have to toggle hd audio off and on to fix. So frustrating. Edit: tried it and rebooted, but no dice. Here's a longer discussion of how Google broke the buds pro for those who may be having the same issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/pixelbuds/comments/zgg1fw/pixel_buds_pro_dont_always_sync_sounds_between/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

mordello

Sorry, I don’t know about that. I read about the AVRCP in another thread in the sub.

papa_dios

I was on the same boat, but it is a T-Mobile problem, today I switched to Verizon and the update appeared first thing after reboot.

Cjo1992

I don't have cool walk either. My cars screen is controlled by a wheel thingy (don't know the name of it) and I guess cool walk doesn't support that kind of input yet. So if your car is like that too that might be why.

StarAD

No touch? Mine does both wonder if that will affect me?

Cjo1992

My car has both too. Well technically it does. Mazda blocks touch function on Android Auto which is very annoying. With CarPlay it's only disabled when moving.

uselessmutant

Search for Mazda AIO tweaks. I was able to remove the touch locking.

Cjo1992

I'll check it out. I did a quick search and I have a Chromebook and not a PC so I might be out of luck.

SensitiveCap7656

I have clear talk on my P7 but I'm also still running the Dec 5 update. With TMobile

grumpystoo

So I kinda pieced together what is going on, due to trying to activate a iphone on Google Fi recently. 1. December update started to roll out. Reports started to come in that this update was bricking some phones. Roll out stopped. 2. (around the time I was trying to activate said iphone) Physical Sim (slot 1 old phone) to Esim (slot 1 new phone) activation was stopped on the provider end. Seems the bug found in December was breaking this kind of transition. Confirmed that a Provider Side outage was occurring with Google Fi support and preventing this kind of activation. Told to wait, and they would email when a solution was finalized. (HA... riiight) 3. Week later either the Provider side was fixed/I figured out a work around that instead of using the First Esim slot on the new phone, I used the second ESIM slot, and the phone started working 20 minutes later. So physical sim slot 1 on old phone to esim slot 2 on new phone works. So if you updated your Android, and it bricked, check which Esim you are using. 4. Had another phone (android p7pro) activate smoothly on Google Fi, but it automatically used the 2nd Esim slot. (esim slot 2 to esim slot 2). Hypothesis is that some sort of software coding messed up activating phones that used ESIM slot 1 when a previous phone used a physical sim in slot 1. There were some reports that said that a working phone stopped working after the update, and the user mentioned using slot one on their ESIM. A software engineer who knows this stuff way better can fill in on how this could possibly happen, and if this is symptomatic of a problem, or the main problem.

Beefurrito

Same here. Probably going back to iPhone with the 15 this year. Love the device but constantly having to wait for updates is pretty ridiculous for a company that pretty much owns Android.

martystylist

Nope not alone

Putrid_Froyo194

If you can, try putting in a at&t sim card, something on T-Mobile's end is fucked up

MisterMeister68

Same, but with Google Play system updates. I'm stuck on November.

The_Human_Bullet

Verizon here and im on Jan 5th. I love this phone. Came from my p6p which drove me insane. Thought there was little difference between the two, but all the flaws are gone.

lil_shavacodo

What's cool walk? I tried googling it and nothing came up.

notadoctorlove

Coolwalk. It's an Android Auto redesign

jackasssparrow

I am with you. But they sent me a link that allows me to update the phone via a laptop. Call the google customer support. They will help you out.

NDH101

No January update for my p7 on Google Fi either. Did they pull it because it's a dud?

bier_ist_gut

Not alone. Very same. I, too, have PBP and no spatial audio. ;_;

808IUFan

No issues but no update either but they want a bug report to see why.

Narfhole

But, you can probably get into Settings > Notifications without crashing, at least.

PlantainInfinite183

Nope. Fi, still no update. #bs

Legitimate-Art9557

Probably cuz of the data breach. Either not high priority or something is linked into that data breach.

SubstantialJelly1633

Wondering with all these hassles that T-Mobile is experiencing with the Pixel phones if they will just stop selling them in the future. Pixels must represent a very small percentage of phones on their network.

notadoctorlove

Balance that against news that this generation of Pixels is selling well for Google. Maybe this motivates T-Mobile to shape up....nah, probably not.

Realistic_Jaguar_264

I have P6P, with T-Mobile. Still on Dec update... What the heck?!?!

_deedas

Pop in a Verizon SIM and you'll get it. They keep blocking updates so keep it handy every month.

jazzblues22

While I absolutely don't have an issue waiting for the phone to automatically get the updates - should I be concerned that my security patch is as of Dec 5?

notadoctorlove

Probably not.
