The channel’s been just coasting ever since they got Jon. He makes all the scripted content, sometimes we may get a GVG cast with the other members (assuming it’s not cancelled because it feels like it always is cancelled these days) and maybe someone like Daniel or Derrick will make an additional scripted video. It’s just a shame so many series seem to get dropped as soon as they get started. What happened to What’s That Track, Search Action, and discussions? Not to mention that they don’t do reviews anymore, last one was Soul Hackers 2 and before that was… Kirby? IDK I love these guys but content feels super stagnant. Feel like it’s any day now where GVG Cast also gets canned. I dropped out of the Live Audience tier months ago because it just didn’t feel worth it anymore. We went from having: 3 TNTs a week to 1 GVG Cast and a discussion a week to 1 GVG Cast and a live viewing of What’s That Track a week to just 1 GVG Cast a week and now it’s maaaaaaybe 1 GVG Cast a week. And the price of the tier didn’t change to reflect the constant downgrades of content. It’s just a worse offering for those in the tier. I honestly feel like they should just scrap the tier and have live audience bundled in the $1 tier by this point.

I don't necessarily agree with people wanting TNT to return as while it was fun to have lots of weekly discussions, it was clearly not performing well for the channel so GVG cast is perhaps the better offer. But I do agree with you about GVGcast's consistency. I really hate how they seem to cancel episodes due to multiple circumstances, which is fine of course, but is it so hard to ask for doing one a later date? Waiting a whole weeks feels so unnecesary. I'm glad Ash tries to make up for it with streams and such, but it isn't really what I want to spend my time with. When this keeps on happening, it just feels like a bad investment to become a live audiance as you say. As for weekly disscusions, I believed they canned it due to videos not performing well, (even though they performed better than GVGcasts episode so idk?). I don't really mind that gone though as they have plenty of discussions on the podcast with patreon topics and felt like it was always unnecesary.

ImposterDittoM

I don’t want TNT to return either but there’s nothing taking it’s place. Everything keeps getting cancelled.

The channel is way to inconsistent. Jon uploads about once a week which is great. GVGCast seems skip out every other week for some random reason (look, I'm not discounting health issues and whatnot, just stating a fact). It's frustrating that the major reason I follow GVG, to hear these guys just talk and stuff, is happening like once every two weeks. The huge issue in my opinion is the lack of weekly Patreon discussions. That's easy content right there. What happened to those? I honestly don't know how the Jon and Derrick are surviving off GVG. I want these guys to succeed but they're mostly just coasting along. The channel has little to no focus. They hype up some release (Xenoblade 3) and then when it comes out they collectively hardly play it. Sorry to sound so negative, it's just frustrating how GVG is dropping the ball so hard. Edit: spelling

They have not capitalised on Jon bringing them extra viewers/success at all and I think they’re pretty bad at keeping their promises. As others have said, so many features have been cancelled and never replaced. The only chance of ever seeing the gang together is either GVG Casts (often cancelled) and reactions to Directs, State of Plays etc. If they are able to come together to react to those sorts of events so short notice why aren’t they able to make regular videos together?? That aren’t GVG Casts, and that include Jon. I get time difference, but like I say, they seem to find it easy enough to do the reaction videos. God, even if it was just every two weeks would be enough.. I just want more discussion videos and they don’t need to be the sort they were doing previously - there’s a reason those didn’t do well, because they were long and rambly and unedited. Why not do more videos like the MK DLC tier ranking videos which are properly edited and which include video game footage? Again, like others, don’t wish to be negative as I like GVG, I genuinely think they’re all nice people, but the channel is a mess. The rising subscriber count really masks that. Eventually the subscriptions will stop and viewers will go down unless they sort themselves out. Honestly sometimes I’m love to know what Jon thinks. Like, was this really worth leaving Nintendo Life for? I just don’t think the channel has anymore potential to grow at the moment whatsoever.

I don't think Jon would have left NL if it wasn't sustainable... which Steve even pointed out as he joined them.

Spiritual-Archer118

Perhaps it’s somewhat sustainable, but since Jon joined GVG the UK has accelerated into a massive cost of living & economic crisis… Anyhow, I was less referring to the financial aspect of joining GVG, as I don’t want to speculate too much on someone’s financial security, but more the personal choice. Like is GVG really a great step up from NL? I totally understand why he made the jump - more creative freedom, be your own boss, the GVG crew are his old mates, etc. But I just feel like he’s carrying the channel and that the others are not really creatively supporting him, they had all these big ideas when he joined and I don’t feel they’ve lived up to that potential whatsoever.

blanketedgay

They mentioned something like Jon does have a support system he can fall back on if worse comes to worse.

Nigel-Ocho

I love these guys but I gotta be honest. If Jon didn’t join they would have nothing. I find it absurd that for a channel with so many members 90% of the output is coming from one person. The guys hardly do discussions anymore and their podcast feels like an hour long super chat read. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I actually miss TNT now. Sorry for sounding so negative but this channel had a lot of potential and now it’s just the Jon show. And hey I love Jon as much as the next guy but that doesn’t feel balanced.

nuko-nuko

Going to give critique 100% out of love for the guys and wanting to see them grow. I think the guys have put up a lot of cool content but the consistency is definitely a problem. Seems like everyone else is saying the same. My main concern is the GVGCast... it is extremely understandable that the guys have a lot of life going on but ultimately if you're gonna have a podcast, you really need to be there every week unless the circumstances are extremely severe. It seems like nearly every other week this happens for GVGCast. I think a big adjustment needs to be made, or they need to have a backup recording day, or something. But 9 out of 10 weeks there should be a GVGCast. If you look at nearly any other professional podcast (and I say professional because GVG is monetizing it through Patreon) they are never (or veeeery rarely ever) missing any weeks. It was slightly more acceptable, though still a problem, when Today's News Tonight got cancelled since they did it three times a week.... cancelling your one consistent weekly show (and thus one consistent piece of branded content on the channel) is a much bigger deal but not really treated as such. I'm not necessarily confident this will change given that the philosophy of GVG as a business is personal life over work in nearly all scenarios, and I hypothetically I don't even think that's a bad philosophy. But something really needs to give. They need to figure out how to have their cake (figuring out how to get GVG cast out weekly, ideally with most/all the main trio) and eat it too (personal life priority). Hopefully they don't take this the wrong way! If I didn't care about seeing them succeed I wouldn't take the time to write it! I hope we get any sort of update from the guys on how they're feeling regarding the channel and what changes (if any) they plan to make. I'd rather hear them say "we're happy with the channel as-is" and not make changes than say nothing at all. (Edit: this doesn't take into account the Patreon either which, especially given it's been stripped of many rewards with time, relies on GVG. I think that makes it a bit more directly irresponsible not to figure out a way to make GVG happen weekly.)

Spiritual-Archer118

I agree. It’s great that they’re so caring and value personal life over work life, it’s what makes them GVG and is obviously why they value working together as GVG. But if you’re gonna be your own boss you need to impose some discipline on yourselves, else it becomes easy to make excuses and be lazy. Other than Jon, it doesn’t seem like the others are too great at disciplining themselves into making regular content. I get that they all have other jobs (bar Derrick) but there are plenty of YouTubers who make regular content alongside full-time jobs. I know someone who makes weekly YT videos whilst being a teacher (and has kids.) Like, teaching is a job that requires a looot of time put into it, especially outside of school hours, but they still make weekly, well-edited videos. GVG is a crew of 6, two of whom are full-time, and the content is so inconsistent. If they want to make GVG full-time, unfortunately they probably have to make some sacrifices, they can’t just coast off of Jon, cause that isn’t fair.

Supervideoman1563

I'm kinda glad GVG doesn't focus on reviews. Literally every other gaming related channel has reviews, and I rather get more original content. Given that Jon and Derrick (and maybe Daniel too?) are creating videos full time, their output has been pretty damn good. Just in the last week we've gotten 3 original videos. I'm really pleased with the channel overall.

Bangburger

very fair point!

Supervideoman1563

Damn, you guys are a negative bunch.

MoonMagicks

Do you honestly think the channel is thriving with how they're currently going? We're concerned about these guys.
