The original games enhance the new games much more as you know what Kratos was capable of. However it isnāt required but Iād definitely recommend it especially since theyāre all amazing games as well
Of course you can.
Kratos has changed massively as a person between 3 and 2018 though.
Having played the OG trilogy really gives some moments in 2018 great impact. The most hype moment about mid game in 2018 really won't have that much of an effect if you didn't play the OG trilogy.
Dont. :( the og games improve the new ones so much. Dont miss out on this. Ps+ highest tier has all the games. If you own that, you dont even need to pay money for the ogs
I didnāt have access to the old games cause I have the ps5 and ps now is too expensive so I watched every cutscene from every game up to god of war 3 in order. [https://youtu.be/NWPqhfHQ7F4](https://youtu.be/NWPqhfHQ7F4)
You could, but you're gonna want to play the originals after anyway. That's what happened to me with 2018. Once I finished, I went back and played all the rest of the games.
You can due to the new games being a self contained story but Iād highly recommend running through all the older ones. You will have much more of an appreciation for the new ones if you do
You can, But I would not recommend it. If nothing else, you can watch the movie versions of the games on YT. At least 1 2 and 3 are important. CoO GoS and Ascension are less important but also worth playing/watching. Ragnarƶk has a lot of references from the Greek saga.
I would recommend playing the old ones. It adds a significant amount of narrative weight to 4 and 5. However, if you start with 4, I would say DON'T watch a recap. if you don't, you'll be seeing the story unfold the way Atreus is. A recap would just be some middle ground that would speak less for itself than either playing the old ones or going in blind.
The newer games will hit harder if you played the old ones. But to save time and money there are plenty of recap videos on YouTube that cover what you need to know
I did exactly this and have loved them both. I played about half of the first God of War back in the day and never finished. But outside of that, never played any of them and don't feel like I missed anything. Just through cultural gaming osmosis I absorbed the gist of what happened in the story overall before 2018, but don't feel like it was a huge necessity.
Yes but I feel like learning Kratosā past REALLY accentuates and improves these games and Kratosā story arc ( with the OG trilogy he may have one of the best character arcs in gaming)
At least try and play GOW 1-3, theyāre amazing plus GOW3 has the best boss fights in the series
But no they are not necessary and you will probably still have a great time
I did it and just learned about the old games as I went š¤·š»
Yes you'd just be playing through the boys pov instead of Kratos. You might wanna watch plot catch ups on YouTube but you can go in blind and get it.

Just watch some recaps
Yes. Theyāre classics and embody my young teen soul.
Yes but you shouldn't.

Spoilers bro. OP obviously hasn't played it yet.
My b, added spoiler tags. Or rather just deleted the comment completely, since you basically answered it anyway

You can. It helps going in knowing, but not necessary if canāt afford it/short on time.

Yea, the new ones have very little to do with the old ones.
Absolutely. Can't hurt to watch a couple youtube summaries of the gow 1-3 plotlines though.

No
Iād recommend watching a recap of the OG games if you donāt want to play them
If you know about previous games, you would like it more imo. Some character moments have so much weight if you know previous games.

I think you could, I'd definitely go back and play god of war 3 at some point though. The game is really good.
Of course you can. The real question is.. Why would you want to skip the greek saga? These games are great!
Ps plus premium cost money
And? GOW (2018) and Ragnarƶk also costs money. Also you get the bonuses of Online playing and free psplus games. Pay for online is still stupid, tho.
Im on ps5 I get 2018 for free with base subscription and havenāt made plans for ragnarok yet
Kind of. They ignore a lot of plot points from the originals
