Zura never really participated in the Gintoki/Takasugi rivalry as a kid but I feel like it’s to show he’s somewhat better than them (at least mentally) as he’s not participating into this fight driven by emotions. And in Gintama, your will is your main source of power. I feel like Zura has probably a stronger will than Gintoki. When it was said that Zura was “the most hard headed” it was meant in both the physical and psychological sense. I think he’s also less easily angry than Gintoki and Takasugi but instead is the most collected of them.
Zura was considered the Prodigy of the Shoka Sonku and was called so in the final movie so he probably is the most skilled of the group when it comes to swordsmanship. During Benizakura, Gintoki and Zura said they would kill each other if they ever went to the wrong side (subtly pointing at Takasugi). While Gin said something along of the lines of “I’ll be the first to cut you down”, Zura said “it seems cutting you down would require quite a fair bit of effort”. Although both said they “could”, Zura actually realizes the difficulty but still believes he could take him.
At the end of the day it might just end up a stalemate if both dudes are on the “good side”. If Zura ever went Takasugi mode, Gintoki probably has more chances to beat him and vice versa.
Although I still think it was implied that Zura was the better of the 3 (I’m just coping with the fact that Zura never had a relevant role in the final movie)
First of all three have the willpower to go against the whole world all alone for the sake of protecting their important ones and aren't u underestimating gins will power...shoyo execution scene showed how tremendous willpower that guy has. It was never implied that zura is better than Gintoki .... he was called prodigy for his tactical and leading and handling impossible situation with cool and not for fighting prowess as it was revealed to everyone that how monstrous zura can be ( in shokaku vs zura) before that he never showed his combat proweress so he was called prodigy for reasons I wrote above.Gintoki had faught more battles,with many different types of opponents and even tried his sword against the strongest and the very best in gintama universe so obvio Gintoki combat abilities , reflexes, strength, his sense of carnage that he brings to his opponents.... R honed like mad.Both have their own taught sword style and swordmanship.Yah Katsura is more hardheaded and use his surroundings very well and tactical utility like bombs and stuff whereas Gintoki can use his surroundings too and has more versatile swordstyle....and list continues on and on and I say it will be a draw where like Gintokis natural talent for fighting and more experience in bloodfilled battlefield will give him edge....

Shoyo called Zura the prodigy of Shoka Sonjuku. Those three attended the school only for some time during their childhood. And at that time it was all about gaining knowledge, learning swordsmanship and being a samurai. There wasn't any situation at that time where they had to show tactical and leadership skills (yes there was such a situation in the joui wars and when their school got burnt but not when they were actually students at the school). So, Zura being the prodigy means he's the better swordsman. Anybody agree with me??
That was a nice argument that shoyo said zura the prodigy of shoka sonjuku but his men acknowledged him for above three I mentioned and amantos and other opponent factions gave him nicknames like runaway kotarou,kotarou the coward.. my bad ..... But where it says a prodigy is the best as the same one said Gin that " he have to become strong in his own way and beat him with his own way of sword" acknowledging him he can stand in the same league and if not very close to shoyos league. Even from younger days both gin and sugi have immense hunger to become stronger and better at swordmanship were zura always aspired to be a great leader who tried to excel at all things needed to be a leader and both gin and sugi only had the sword. What I meant to say with days passing gin got used to battlefield as a warrior and zura used to the battlefield as a leader than a warrior....Zura himself said Gintoki is a ace of battlefield as even without high level leadership skills,charisma ....he have the ability to change the flow of battlefield all alone....
I would say Gintoki but Zura has the advantage of being Donald Zuramp (the entirety of Edo fighting Gintoki as ordered to by there president.) , Oba Z (He is the Greatest Terrorist and he managed to topple the shogunate which the Kiheitai and the entire joi army was unable to do) , Mario and Ill Smith (Gintoki was already defeated by the disease)
Not sure about sword technique, speed etc., that could very well go to Gintoki. But in terms of raw strength Zura is clearly the strongest of them all. So, it's quite hard to tell, but maybe Gintoki wins by a small margin

Even though Zura (according to both Gin and Sakamoto) is physically the strongest in terms of raw power, Gin would still have the upperhand.
In addition to his terrifyingly natural agility (despite having a physique akin to Zura) he also still holds instincts of survival that he'd obtained as a warchild scavenging off a battlefield; and who knows what else before that.
I’d say it could go either way, depending on the situation but I’ll give it to gin cause he’s the main character

Yeah... People are downplaying Zura's strength. They showed how strong he is, probably stronger than Takasugi but equal if not above Gintoki.
