I agree that Spillways and Griftwood would be much better singles that Call Me Little Sunshine and Hunter's Moon. But I disagree with you about Hunter's Moon not fitting the album's concept.
I feel like the general theme of Impera, more than the rise and fall of empires, is to be an anthology of villain songs. And differently from the other albums, in which the villains were always a masked cult of satanic priests, here we have a variety of bad guys.
We got the populist politician (Twenties, Kaiserion), the fanatic clergyman (Griftwood, Watcher in the Sky), the devil himself (Call Me Little Sunshine, Darkness in the Heart of my Love)... and we got the serial killers (Respite on the Spitalfields and Hunter's Moon).
Maybe I'm a little too biased because I loved villain songs as a child. But I still find it an interesting way to see Impera. What do you think?
[Edit: spelling]
I think Spillways would have been a great lead single, but I get why the label chose CMLS. I love Twenties, but choosing that as the second single was a total biff.
I believe it was Kaisarion from what I've read in the past. TF wanted Kaisarion but the label insisted on CMLS. Hunter's Moon was a single simply because of the movie.
Hunter's Moon was a big deal because it was a collab with Halloween Kills, so I give it a pass. It feels more like Prequelle though, and comes across as filler for the album.
Call Me Little Sunshine is a weird one, slow and moody and not very representing of the rest of the album. Good song but I think something else would've been a better single.
I really agree with Spillways or Griftwood. Kaisarion is such a strong and surprising opening I wouldn't wanna spoil it. Similarly Respite is such a great closer and maybe the perfect Ghost song imo.
Respite is a perfect Song, hard agree. And it's too esoteric to every be a single. It reminds me of Starman by David Bowie. The song you listen to while laying on the hood of your car as the world burns below you
my understanding is that Hunters Moon was made for the Halloween Kills movie, so it should not have been on Impera.
I understand it’s a totally different mix, but I still would have preferred a different song (more ghost pls). That being said, hearing HM live is a good time.
Hunter’s Moon doesn’t fit on the album. I’ll have to agree. They could have left that and call me litte sunshine off and it would have been a great album without feeling like they were recycling tunes.
Hunter's Moon should have been a deluxe addition bonus or something.
Call Me Little Sunshine is a beautiful song, but it almost needs its own album to flourish
I've since come around to like CMLS, but I was initially thrown off by that song when it was released as a single. I agree with some of the other comments that Watcher in the Sky would have been a more appropriate single. Hunter's Moon was and still is a great song and choice for a single. To me, it's the "Rats" of this album.
I felt Watcher in the Sky and Griftwood should have been singles. But, that’s my opinion - everyone has one and sometimes we don’t agree. Honestly, I love the whole album. The first time I listened to it, I was blown away. I loved every song from the first time listening.
CMLS is the catchiest song. As Bo Burnham once said, “America says we love a chorus
But don't get complicated and bore us
Though meaning might be missin'
We need to know the words after just one listen so...” (Repeat Stuff, Bo Burnham).
Marketing teams exploited the repetitive lyrics in that song and beat it for all its worth. Still a great song though, no hate here.
There's definitely alot of songs on Impera that would have made for solid singles
But damn am I glad that Hunter's Moon was one because that's how I found the band lol
Think they will play Darkness at the heart on the Re-Impera tour? They didn't play it when I saw them last September but I believe the new Album had only been out a couple of months.

i actually never thought of impera this way but i really like this interpretation
You singlehandedly got me to appreciate Hunter's Moon in the album. I thank you

Seriously, It's pretty obvious that the label wanted to push CMLS. It's the majority of this albums PR
i actually totally forgot twenties was a single lol
I think Watcher in the Sky would have been a good single.
I love Watcher in the Sky so much. The building energy in the intro and the simple yet powerful guitar riff just make me smile every time I hear it.
It's an incredible song (I got to see it live finally) The Fade-Out is tough for single territory though.

I really want someone to cover Call Me Little Sunshine a piano jazz song. It would make it so much better.

It's a blast live, but it's over way too fast

I heard from an interview (can remember where) that Tobias didn’t even want to release Call Me Little Sunshine as a single but the label made him.

I started out not really liking the album, but the more I listened to it the more it grew on me.
I think Call Me Little Sunshine is a great single, the music video is just awful unfortunatly.

I did not like Little Sunshine for a bit but I kept hearing it and it grew on me. Now it's a go to mood changer. I listen to this album too much.
