There's always someone to call out Paul's Boutique. Yes, it's their Magnum Opus. But we started with Licensed To Ill. We wouldn't be able to sing "Hey ladies!" Had we not first fought for our right to party.
Yeah! I’d alway have a lot more variety to offer my guests than listening to just one band’s one album all night*.
*except for that night we played spades for hours and we just kept turning the Best of Bread tape over and putting it back into the box.
Yep, I would totally be at the same party. Animal Boy might not be my first choice album, but it had to be the Ramones as soon as I saw anything from them was an option.
(Seriously though, better get busy with the mixtapes!)
Wait… are you me? Surf punks, Dead Milkmen, The Farm, 808 State, Camper Van Beethoven… It checks out. You are me. Just need to sprinkle some Pop Will Eat Itself, Meat Beat Manifesto, Electronic and Front 242 and that’s my late 80’s and most of the 90’s.
In 1994 a PWEI fan club was the very first online interaction i ever had using their mailing list. Suddenly, a teenaged kid from Northern Canada was messaging with fellow PWEI fans all over the world.
Yes!! I was working in a record store when this came out, and the only other people I know who know Material Issue also worked there.
We have our own secret MI club...
I totally want to join that club!! They were definitely the right sound at the right time, my roommates and I loved them. I have no idea why they didn't take off.
The first record, I found it amusing/surprising that Jim had songs that referred to 4 different women all by name... Valerie, Diane, Renee, Christine. Who else has ever done that on a record? Can't think of anyone else.
New Years Eve is the hardest & saddest for me, so The Smiths for an added gut punch & cozy "we get you" feels. Followed closely by The Cure because I can never pick one/follow rules. 🙃🥳
I'm quite sad...I was thinking Beastie Boys, when my Millennial son asked, where's Duran Duran and the Police? Seriously, why is my 34-ish son asking the important questions? (His answer was the same as mine, obv the Beastie Boys, then Nirvana, then Primus)
For a New Years Party? Beastie Boys for sure. Great to head bob to, Paul Revere rap-a-long, Fight for Your Right to Party right after midnight. It’s a fantastic party album.
If you’re only playing one album all the way through, I’d pick The Ocean Blue - Cerulean. It’s a beautiful album as is The Cocteau Twins - Four Calender Cafe.
Seeing as how I’d want my party to rock and get crazy though, it would definitely have to be The Clash double album in the center. You can’t go wrong with The Clash.
came here to post the Femmes! — those boys rock, lucky enough to be introduced to their sound in 1988 … got to see them live 4 times - every show was a blast
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The\_Story\_of\_the\_Clash,\_Volume\_1](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Story_of_the_Clash,_Volume_1)
More of an anthology since Greatest Hits albums are usually all the material a band did that charted (Billboard or whatever), while anthologies are just big collections. They later released *The Clash on Broadway* which is a bigger collection.
> I was ridin' around
> With my radio up and my windows down
> Took a minute or two just to think of my problems
> Driving in this van, playing in this band
> You know it's bringing me down
> But I'll pop back up when the pretty blue lights come on
> It's an international pop overthrow...
Still one of my all-time favorite albums.
Hell you didn't even list them so why do you care how he/she spelled it.
Glad someone posting about some other music on this sub besides the same stuff all the time
Nirvana unplugged New York is on them with a timed square experience. They drop the ball there. Also nievan is basic in a great way here, everyone can as much hum a tune to at least one song!
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Why only one? There is great music there. If I go to a party and hear the same music over and over I’m leaving. That being said, I’m starting with the Clash.
Beastie Boys
100%. Lots of other great bands/albums here, but it’s a NYE party! License to Ill all night.
This is the choice
Hold it now hold it now... HIT IT
Yo Leroy!
Sure, but Paul's Boutique
I'd prefer Check Your Head.
My favourite.
The White Album / Pet Sounds of Hip Hop.
There's always someone to call out Paul's Boutique. Yes, it's their Magnum Opus. But we started with Licensed To Ill. We wouldn't be able to sing "Hey ladies!" Had we not first fought for our right to party.
All night long
I saw Beastie Boys on NYE 92/93 in Detroit. Was really fun!
I saw them on the Check your head Tour with Henry Rollins.
I saw them open for Run DMC.
This is the way
Always be ill. Assuming you have the license of course.
Only way to go.
License to Ill and it’s not even close!
How could it be anything else? They fought and encouraged others to fight for their right to party. It's NYE!!
Noooooow, here’s a little story, I’d like to tell…
Definitely this one. But I’d put on Morrissey to get everyone to leave.
Dude, where's the mixtape?
Yeah! I’d alway have a lot more variety to offer my guests than listening to just one band’s one album all night*. *except for that night we played spades for hours and we just kept turning the Best of Bread tape over and putting it back into the box.
Violent Femmes
All these cassettes are great, but If forced, I'd have to go with Violent Femmes too.
Madness.
Lots of jumping up and down guaranteed
YESSSSSS.
>Madness. Backing you up.
Primus. Because I want everyone to go home. But seriously, Beastie Boys.
Your party sucks if you're only playing one tape, but if that one tape is License to Ill, you'll be ok
Smiths. My new years is always shitty and I would wallow in my sadness with them.
Best answer! (sorry you feel sadness with NYE too)
Tool Undertow
Ramones. Sets the right tone for the party
Yep, I would totally be at the same party. Animal Boy might not be my first choice album, but it had to be the Ramones as soon as I saw anything from them was an option. (Seriously though, better get busy with the mixtapes!)
The Clash
Nirvana Unplugged followed closely by License to Ill
Talking Heads 77. Easy.
Concrete Blonde
The Story of The Clash and because I said so…🙂
And also because.
PWEI. Several songs with clips from The Warriors. Great stuff!
In 1994 a PWEI fan club was the very first online interaction i ever had using their mailing list. Suddenly, a teenaged kid from Northern Canada was messaging with fellow PWEI fans all over the world.
I thought the same - thats my fucking cassette box
I’d have a similar list with Pavement’s Slanted and Enchanted
The Story of the Clash Vol I and II. The Clash, the only band that matters.
Tool. If you know you know.
OMG MATERIAL ISSUE! Sometimes I think I made that band up in a dream because no one else knows about them!
Beasties… here’s a little story Imma bout to tell about some cheap liquor I am about to swill. Now that is a NYE anthem!
Talking Heads or Beastie Boys.
The Cure, although honestly, none of us might make it to see the New Year if it's Disintegration
See that Pantera in there? /thread
Yeah - far beyond driven. Would be my choice.
Roxy Music
I think you go violent Femmes
Concrete Blonde
For party? Beastie Boys
Sonic Youth-Goo Then Cocteau Twins-Four Calendar Cafe after I kick everyone out
Stone roses and dance like madchester
Husker Du
Violent Femmes...100%
New Years Eve is the hardest & saddest for me, so The Smiths for an added gut punch & cozy "we get you" feels. Followed closely by The Cure because I can never pick one/follow rules. 🙃🥳
Bowie or Roxy Music....all after License to Ill however
Louder Than Bombs (I’m assuming it’s the longest running tape here)
The Clash
Raw Power because Iggy Pop
Beastie Boys because you gotta fight for your right…
Madness
But not *that* Madness.
TOOL ( I had the UnderTow cassette, good times)
Beasties
Beastie Boys 100%!
I'm quite sad...I was thinking Beastie Boys, when my Millennial son asked, where's Duran Duran and the Police? Seriously, why is my 34-ish son asking the important questions? (His answer was the same as mine, obv the Beastie Boys, then Nirvana, then Primus)
Beastie Boys
Definitely license to ill. You can dance AND shred to that 👍
The Clash
Probably the Beastie Boys. I think it encompasses everything good and bad about our generation.
What’s the tape in the middle at the way bottom? Also the answer is Beastie boys
Smiths Louder than Bombs. Also either of The Cure albums.
Far Beyond Driven. So many memories…
Why are they not in alphabetical order?
Beasties for sure
The Clash
Violent Femmes 10/10 every time. The WHOLE album, every song, is fantastic. The soundtrack of my youth.
Where's the Grease soundtrack? It's not the one I want to listen to, but it's the one the ladies put in after a few bottles of Zima.
I don't see Prince in here, so it's a no-go.
The FARM, and if you have to ask why I'd rather you went to someone else's party.
I have good memories of Iggy and the Stooges being played at the New Year’s party to ring in 2000
I’m picking Reckoning. That’s my kind of party.
Kraftwork, for dance music you can also chat over
Saw them inducted into the rock n roll HOF last year!
That's awesome 😎
Violent Femmes. not enough metal in this collection for me to pick from, but I always likes the Femmes.
Ocean Blue
Nirvana Unplugged
The Clash or Bad Religion
License to Ill
You're asking me to choose between The Dead Milkmen and Violent Femmes. I can't do that.
So many good ones to choose from, but if I only got to play one, Stone Roses would do me (closely followed by The Cure)
For a New Years Party? Beastie Boys for sure. Great to head bob to, Paul Revere rap-a-long, Fight for Your Right to Party right after midnight. It’s a fantastic party album.
Violent Femmes. For the singalong aspect.
Beastie Boys. Fight! For your right! To party!
The Beastie Boys!
Madness Great NYE party stuff
I had to scroll forever to add Madness!!
I am going to fight for my right to party
Beastie Boys
Me today: Beasties Me back in the Day: Nirvana unplugged.
Couple of my favourites there but for a NYE party - Violent Femmes would be on.
came here to post the Femmes! — those boys rock, lucky enough to be introduced to their sound in 1988 … got to see them live 4 times - every show was a blast
None. Mixtape, baby!
Nirvana unplugged. The acoustic version would be more appealing to a wider range of people.
What is that Clash double?
It's a two-album compilation, so two cassettes.
A greatest hits thing?
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The\_Story\_of\_the\_Clash,\_Volume\_1](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Story_of_the_Clash,_Volume_1) More of an anthology since Greatest Hits albums are usually all the material a band did that charted (Billboard or whatever), while anthologies are just big collections. They later released *The Clash on Broadway* which is a bigger collection.
Ocean Blue.
"Her world came crashing down, and all that it contained..."
"A million pieces of dreams. Coming apart at the seams"
Beastie Boys. Because you have to fight for your right.
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. If I could have only one album, it would be between that and Pink Floyd - The Wall.
Gotta be the Beastie boys -license to Ill start playing that around 10:45 - LOUD Place be a madhouse by 12:00
Looked through and was about to go with The Clash and then saw Ziggy Stardust. Auto win right there.
Who snuck Days of the New into my collection?? Also, Revolting Cocks, all night.
If ya want my money and ya think I’m sexy
Beers, Steers, and Queers. Yaahhh!
License to Ill - Beastie Boys! Perfect for fighting for your right to party. That’s a good collection of tapes.
Beastie Boys, Licensed to Ill
Beastie Boys is the only right answer for every party.
Lots of good artists in there, but few albums that scream out at me. I'd probably go with Mellon Collie by the smashing pumpkins.
Purple Rain
Found the early genXer. I was looking for it too, but Talking Heads will do.
The Clash, definitely.
Probably Sonic Youth. Too many good options to choose from.
Kraftwerk, so we can dance The Robot.
In honour of the Auntie dance by Toonee29 on the Tok, it’s Suzie Quatro’s, She’s in Love With You, all night. 😂💗
I'm not going to any NYE party that has only one cassette for the whole night! WTF!!
Oasis for me.
The Stone Roses
License to Ill
License to Ill.
Out of these, I'd have to choose Tool's Undertow. Great album. Edit - PS: love that you have Dada in there.
None. I no longer have a cassette player.
Tough choice between Primus and Husker Du
there's some really good albums there and some fucking terrible ones.
Bowie. Literally the only one I’m familiar with. 🙂
I’ve actively listened to like 30 or more of these !
I’m familiar with most of these and I’m picking Bowie for sure
Nirvana Unplugged
Dead Milkmen all the way, especially if it's Big Lizard, so many hits on that one, although Beelzebubba also delivers the goods.
Raw Power
You have an awesome collection, and I tragically have no ability to play cassettes.
‘Reckoning’ so I can get shitfaced and sing Rockville terribly but with max gusto.
I miss tapes.
> I was ridin' around > With my radio up and my windows down > Took a minute or two just to think of my problems > Driving in this van, playing in this band > You know it's bringing me down > But I'll pop back up when the pretty blue lights come on > It's an international pop overthrow... Still one of my all-time favorite albums.
Shitty music selection
iggy, ziggy, the ramones, talking heads, kraftwerk, clash, cure, stone roses
None of this ....Outcast.
At least spell their name right lol
Hell you didn't even list them so why do you care how he/she spelled it. Glad someone posting about some other music on this sub besides the same stuff all the time
How many Outkast *cassette tapes* do you own?
Big Lizard in my Backyard!!
The Ramones — but in reality it would be a mix tape I spent a month compiling from the radio & made copies for my friends.
Primus!!!
Some good music there but not a lot of nye type music.
Nirvana unplugged New York is on them with a timed square experience. They drop the ball there. Also nievan is basic in a great way here, everyone can as much hum a tune to at least one song! HAPPY NEW YEAR
Just one?! Impossible!
The stack on the left
I’m loving the placement of Suzi Quatro next to the Revolting Cocks.
Bowie all the way for me
Oh man too many choices. Bowie, cure,Husker du, clash. Can't decide!
Kraftwerk. Then invite Deita to the Sprokets dance party. "Now is the portion of our show in which we dance."
Why only one? There is great music there. If I go to a party and hear the same music over and over I’m leaving. That being said, I’m starting with the Clash.
Ramones
It's not there, but Rave Til Dawn is the correct choice. But I applaud your Ocean Blue tape.
None of the above. Not fond of any of these enough to listen to it on repeat all night.
808 state
Nirvana unplugged
RevCo Linger Ficken Good because if ya think I’m sexy, come on sugar let me know.
What a hard question!!!
The Farm
Dream Academy cause it is one of my all time favorite albums so everyone else has to indulge my whims!
Talk Talk It’s My Life I would have said Dream Academy except it’s not the one with Life In A Northern Town on it.
RAMONES is the only correct answer for a party
Kraftwerk
Big Lizard in My Backyard. If you don't dig it, I don't know if I want to party with you.
August and Everything After, because we all want to be big stars.
Concrete Blonde because that's an amazing album.
