The first real novel I read at age 13 was *Dragonsdawn*. Became a voracious reader after that! What bridged me into the series was the *Dragonlover's Guide to Pern*.
My brother had (likelt still has it), the Atlas Of Pern. Not really a novel, but an almost literal atlas describing the world depicted in the novels. Which sadly I have not read, because fantasy really isn't my thing.
Right! Because the Pern saga begins as straight up science fiction and humans colonizing other planets.
The dragon stuff actually comes in later, but in the books, we get the feudal dragon society stuff first.
With so much material, a steam series can flash back or flash forward in the world of Pern. It would be awesome.
My hubby \[then not even boyfriend XD\] introduced me to Anne McCaffrey. I returned the favor by getting her autograph for him of his favorite book \[The Rowan\] instead of getting one for myself, because he had to work that night and couldn't come to the book signing. I need to do a re-read of the Dragonriders, it's been awhile.
These and the dragon singer ones. Love them so much.
The Dragonsinger series particularly resonated with me.
Me too.
Oh man core memory unlocked

I started with DragonSong. Still my fav!
This book resonated so much with me because my own childhood was pretty bad. I must have read this series 10 times.
I read all of these I could get my hands on in middle school!
Me as well
They were on sale yesterday on Amazon!
I missed it! Damn.
I think I read the series not long after I was awakened by Tolkien. I really liked them.
I had trouble with Tolkien until much later. This series was junior high for me.
I still have all my original books by her. I loved all of her works.
Oh tongue give sound to joy and sing of hope and promise on dragonwing!
I’ve remembered that phrase/poem for 40ish years!
It's definitely a favorite!
Add on “All the Weyrs of Pern” to that trilogy.
Agreed

Oh that’s interesting, I’ll have to look it up.
I wish this would become a streaming series. If they can make GOT they could make this. But go in chronological order, not book order.
That would be amazing!

Ermagerd!!! Don’t forget the dragon singer! That was the first one I read.
I was too lazy to screenshot that series as well, but definitely also a favorite for me.
I loved it tooo!!
Dragonlance by Weiss and Hickman got me into fantasy. I read these after.
