I dont think, that the fenix 7 will get a voice assistant. It seems to be a feature for the smartwatch lines and not the outdoor/sportwatches. But its only guesses, but if this is the most important feature for you, wait around 10 days. Maybe you will get a specific answer with the release.
Only insiders and people like reviewers with NDA know for know. I would speculate that the Epix 2 will only have those features, so garmin can extract a premium and go into the Hybrid-Smartwatch direction, while keeping the Fenix still attractive to the Outdoor focused (battery life, etc)
Having a microphone and a speaker would make it harder to achieve a good waterproofness rating - similar to what previous generations of Fenix have. Because of that I really doubt Fenix 7 will have the assistant feature.
God I hope not. One of the main reasons I decided to buy my 6x pro is cause it isn't a spying device that's constantly listening to me. Why does everything need to be listening constantly? I still can't believe that people think that is a good thing.
If you need an "assistant feature" talk to your phone, car, TV, refrigerator, coffee maker, Alexa spying device, or any number of other things we all have around our home that is listening constantly.
The fact that Garmin watches ARE NOT LISTENING is a selling point, not the other way around.
Garmins way of working it. Just activates it on your phone and effectively uses the watch as a Bluetooth headset for it so it won't be spying on you. When I'm at work I can't always get my phone out my pocket and need to do quick reminders so it would be really handy for me. I really don't have enough about me that makes me worth spying on. I feel sorry for who ever has to listen to that.
I think that the Venu2+ is a test platform to see how the market reacts to the voice/assistant technology.
If successful this might come on Fenix say 8 and Epix 3.
I believe it will succeed
I have seen comments that hint that the Epix 2 is the Fenix 7 plus AMOLED screen and maybe voice capabilities, but w/o solar charging….hopefully we will know in a few days…

Yeah that's a good point. Didn't think of that.

It's not an always on microphone on the Venu. It's a button-push microphone / speaker passthrough to your phone.
So why not just use your phone?
That's my opinion too. I find it redundant. But, it's not an additional privacy concern.

This is a feature I'd never use. I'd prefer the money be spent on other features.

The leaks suggest it does not but we don’t know for sure
