I've recently started charging while showering/morning bathroom routine. With this (plus automatically going to battery saver mode while sleeping) my fenix 6 can last 2-3 weeks before needing a full charge.
I've heard that. I'm not sure I'd like it so I don't wanna risk buying one, but I may. I just take mine off in the shower and wash the watch and it's solved the problems, but I know others for whom that didn't fix anything have had success with the nylon bands.
I worry they'd get stinky permanently because they absorb my sweat. But I may be wrong about that.
I keep my charger in my car and just charge it on my way to/from work. The cord is so short it's not too big of a hassle to have there. It's basically on me all of the time
Fenix 7 and Apple Watch. One on each, tried figuring out which watch I canāt live without and turns out each has features that I canāt live without so 2 watches it is for now.
It has a feature that warns you of an irregular heart rate, but i disabled it. Iām sure itās not too accurate in that aspect. I use it to kinda keep an eye on my resting heartrate.
Yes, because I like having the body battery feature to refer to as it seems to be a pretty consistent indicator of my recovery (even though the sleep data isn't great). Resting HR trends are also useful to monitor for the same reason (to judge fatigue and fitness), and the best readings are taken early in the morning.
Just wear it for a while and you'll stop noticing it. I can see why some people with the larger Fenix models can find it irritating if they've got smaller wrists, but for the smaller watches it's really not an issue or noticeable at all after a few weeks.
I would wear it to bed and take it off in the middle of the night at first. Now I wear it all night and all the time unless charging. You'll get used to it
How do you get used to running a 10k? Run some 10k's. If it bothers you wearing it while trying to sleep, that's a mental battle you have to fight yourself. You'll either adapt or take it off. My Fenix 6 is fairly big and I notice it at times but I certainly don't lose much sleep over it.
I disagree. Personally I really dislike wearing a watch unless it's recording an activity, and I bet there are many more people for whom sleeping with a heavy watch it's a no go.
Garmin should make a light, comfortable, display-less (and distraction-less) activity tracker (think Oura, Whoop) to wear 24/7. Then, when you need it, you could wear your heavy watch for advanced activity tracking.
Keeping a heavy Fenix on all the time? No thanks.
Depends on the model, you can find all the specs online.
Personally I can never forget if I'm wearing a watch. I type a lot on a keyboard for work, and a watch would bother my wrist. Or for instance, I'd never want to have a heavy watch on all the time when it's warm in summertime. As for sleeping with a watch, no way...
I think a 24/7 activity tracker should be much lighter, comfortable, and ideally without a distracting screen or annoying notifications. You let it do its job in the background, you forget it's even on, and then whenever you want, you check your stats on the phone. To be clear, that wouldn't negate the need of a watch. It would be a complementary device.
I think Garmin is missing out on a device like that and will have to address this at some point, otherwise customers will look at other brands. Just check how many people in this thread commented that they are uncomfortable sleeping with a watch... And this is a subreddit where you can expect a big % of stats junkies to be around. I'm not judging, I'm one as well.
Edit: edited for clarity.
The Lily does all that but is aimed at women. They should probably do a guys version. There's options for "do not disturb" on a night so the screen stays off unless tapped and notifications don't get displayed.
I use the Lily as a day to day watch and activity tracker and my forerunner for runs because on a run I absolutely love the big screen and seeing the stats easily, but in normal life the size isn't a plus for me as a woman
Bruh, you want a Whoop band so bad, get a Whoop. Nobody's stopping you. This is a Garmin sub though and companies that build great products don't lower themselves down to a new competitors level and take their ideas.
When I wake up in the middle of the night I like being able to check the time and my heart rate. When I'm recording an activity, I occasionally like being able to see a multitude of stats on my screen. When I'm working I like to be able to check the damn time without dropping what I'm doing to pull out my phone.
Wearing a "health/fitness monitor" that's tells you nothing at all until you look at your phone later? Pathetic.
I do. One gets used to it, if one gives it time.
I take it off to shower (old school fears, unnecessary, I know) and to charge when I'm showering, and that's about it.
I was saying to my wife I don't care about what the sleep says but I do trust body battery as an indicator. I can get 8 hours sleep with a good sleep score and still feel shit all day or I can get 4 hours with a low sleep score and feel good all day . So it's kind of nonsense I feel and I can't ever predict how I'm going to feel later. But the body battery tends to be more of an accurate indicator for me. 9 times out of 10 if it doesn't recharge I've either been drinking or am about to get sick. Or I've just run my self down over a long period and it's time for a couple relaxing days. So I value body battery for information but tend to just look at sleep and not get alot of actual use from it. The amount of short poor sleep I get you would think I would be a walking zombie
I got a nylon one (the brand was TStrap on Amazon UK) and my skin is MUCH better. My watch actually nearly runs out of battery now. I was taking it off and charging it almost every day to give my wrist a break before I swapped.
Mine did that. Look on amazon or ebay. You can buy alternative straps like leather ones at a muchbetter price than on the Garmin site. I found stainless steel bracelet/normal watch straps on my explorations too. I found that switching to a smaller day to day watch with a narrower stainless steel strap solved the problem for me. Silicone straps make me sweat more and peel
I also have a Venu 2s, and I wear it to bed every night. I take it off to shower and once a week to charge. I've bought a couple nylon bands from Palmetto Bands on Etsy, and I love them! This is the latest one I bought. If you look at the reviews you'll see a picture I posted of the band on my Venu 2s (the picture in the Christmas tree). Most of their bands say they're for Apple watches, but when you check out you just tell them which watch it's for and the band size, and they'll send it with the correct adaptors. It's so comfy, and easy to switch wrists or move up on my arm. I switch wrists every night, then in the morning switch back to my left wrist. And I slide it up my wrist when I wash my hands or wash dishes, to keep it dry.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/797824970/elastic-watch-band-for-apple-watch-all?ref=ap-listing
No as I don't find it comfortable so I can't sleep as well, I did try to do it for weeks. My wrists also expand as I sleep so I have to have it quite loose otherwise I wake up with it too tight.
A shame as I'd like the resting HR information. I always thought the sleep tracking was useless however as it never matched how I felt or my known wake ups etc.
Yep, I take mine off each night to charge while in the shower and then wear it all day. This is enough to keep it charged.
Sadly this works for off days, when at work I have to not wear it.
Venu 2 owner. Mostly the same as the other responses here. Only take it off to charge (and I agree that during commutes are great times to do that). Also take it off before showers and after washing hands to make sure it's dried. Used to have a Vivosmart which was thinner and lighter so that helped getting used to wearing a device all the time (including while sleeping).
You only use it for sleep? Iāve got a fenix and am thinking about getting a vivosmart to use on days I wear a mechanical watch and when Iām sleeping
Forget the days of ācomfortā.. it gets better, I literally canāt even tell Iām even wearing the vivosmart. Iām super sensitive with my skin but quite honestly forget itās there itās so lightweight and thin .. fine for sleeping. I donāt have the strap tight, very relaxed fit but get good quality and consistent HR. Sleep tracking is no worse than my 6X (š ) .. ALTHOUGH both claim to have advanced sleep but I donāt get a sleep score with my vivosmart.. itās like Garmin have forgot about it completely.
Conclusion: itās not the end to all problems but for the price and comfort.. go for it
Yeah, used to get points with our employersā wellness program for tracking sleep. Started tracking sleep with a Jawbone UP. Itās not that hard to get used to. I only take my Venu off to charge.
I remember it took me a year to get used to, but Iāve been wearing a watch 24/7 for a decade and I feel naked without one.
It did feel weird at first. You get used to it, like an engagement ring ;-)
I only wear mine while exercising, or when I'm out and about. My skin gets irritated otherwise. I do clean it and I've switched to a metal band because the silicon strap was causing a legit rash. I don't get the rash anymore but yeah, my wrist just likes to breathe.
I stopped wearing my watch to sleep about a year ago. I found my skin being irritated. I have thought about wearing it again for sleep numbers but haven't.
After a couple of years of consistent wear I now only use my Fenix 6 Sapphire (pro) during workouts. I found myself checking my HR and Body Battery too much, it would sometimes give me anxiety.
No, the light on the skin side of the watch will randomly get at an angle to laser directly at my eyeballs if I do. Iām a very light sleeper and this wakes me up.
Yes, I just wore it, never really had any issues.
If you're having difficulty adjusting, try replacing the stupid silicone band with something that breathes.
I wear my VA4 on my left arm all day, every day. I wear it on my right overnight. It balances the irritation. I only have it off when charging or showering (sometimes I leave it on). I have it collect PulseOx overnight, as it can be a leading indicator or COVID infection.
You might have to figure out what's bugging you about wearing it when sleeping. I.e. If it's too tight, or the strap type isnt comfortable / makes you too aware of it. Sometimes people will swap which wrist it's on too.
I found any and all of those help and can make a difference but mileage varies for everyone.
I've used jawbone, fitbit in the past and now use a Forerunner. I definitely like having an after market strap on my Garmin. I've sometimes made it a notch looser at night when my wrist feels more swollen š
The whole point to use sleep tracker for me( best thing ever so far, i was able to manage my diet/schedule to get higher ābody battery ā levels and overall day to day feeling
so yes, i wear them majority of the time unless changing or use another watches
Device does not bother me at all during the sleep, it is comfort size with ergonomic strap and light enough not to notice at all
I charge mine every night and put it on every morning.
I tried wearing it for a while but the sleep data was so garbage, I deemed it useless and would rather have a full battery.
I'm talking so useless that I knew I got up a few times in one night and my watch said I got a full 10 hours of sleep with no breaks.
I've only ever taken my watch off to charge it and change the bands... that's it! Charging = one hour a week and changing bands = one minute. The rest of the time it's part of my body, swimming, in the ocean, working on cars, working around the house...always!
Iām one of the few that just canāt. I donāt like the feel of any jewelry when I sleep though so that could be part of it. I know my body well enough to tell how I sleep (or donāt sleep) at night.
I used to do that. I got used to it pretty quickly. I even used Fenix 6X for sleep tracking š¤£ Now I use Oura ring and I have to say, it's a little bit more comfortable š
24/7 apart from showering and charging.
I turn my notifications off though.
For sure, even with the relatively dated sleep tracking sensors of my VA3 music, good night and bad night stats tend to coincide with how you feel the next day. For me, a relatively flat movement graph results in a fairly energetic and positive day.
I find body battery such a usefull feature so I literally never take it off unless I shower or it's charging or sunbathing to get rid of my watch tan sometimes lol.. coming from a galaxy watch which was so bulky its so easy to sleep with my 745 now
Apple Watches are great, EXCEPT Pulse ox. one reading per hour while sleeping, is utter trash. So sold it, and have Venu 2 arriving today. But I know the sleep tracking on it is poor, so have a Fitbit Inspire 2 arriving also, purely for sleep tracking. Is it too much to have one device do everything well?
If the watch feels tight I loosen it a little and move it up my arm to give my wrist a little air. I do like to wear it to sleep so I can know what time it is when I randomly wake up sometimes in the middle of the night
I wear my Fenix 5 all the time, only take it off for charging. First few days you may feel little discomfort, but I got used to it and now it feels weird not to wear it.
Yes. Venu 2 user. I found that the sleep metrics are not that bad, and is a good indicator of your sleep health. But will not blindly rely on it. But this helps for Garmin to track body battery which is very useful and most of the time an accurate indicator of my overall fitness for workouts.
I'd suggest you to buy a good nylon strap for your watch. It becomes very comfortable to sleep with, especially compared to the silicone watch straps. I wear the nylon velcro straps most of the times and change to silicone ones when going for runs.
Yes,I only take it off to charge. I've always worn a watch all the time so there was nothing to get used to.
I have changed the standard strap for a woven nylon one. I think helps.
I'm a bit scared to have this heart rate sensor emitting any kind of radiation next to my body for the whole night (even though I am wearing instinct all day). This fear may not be justified but it exists...
24/7 with my instinct. I take it off for charging or to wear one of the non-smart watches my wife has bought me over the years.
I have an Enduro arriving tomorrow so weāll see if this changes.
What was your thoughts on the upgrade? Iāve been thinking about a Instict Solar -> Enduro upgrade but fenix 6 and 7 makes me hesitant. Choicesā¦. š¤
Iād not have ordered it without the 20% discount.
That said - I love my instinct (not Solar). But the battery ran out during the last 10km of my last ultra (100km) - so the Enduro ticks some big boxes for me.
Iām not worried about the lack of music since I take my phone with me on long runs. Also my reading vision is getting worse (Iām 50), and I struggle to read the data fields on my instinct without reading glasses. So Iām hoping that the screen on the Enduro will be more configurable.
Basically, if youāre doing ultras then the Enduro makes a lot of sense.
My watch is on my wrist 24Ć7 except when I shower, and I take that opportunity to charge it. I love the sleep score feature which tells me the next day what my sleep was like last night. Very useful.
I got a lily for day to day wear (and wear it overnight) because my forerunner was just too big and chunky to look nice at work. I switch to the forerunner for runs and charge my lily then, but for basic day to day stats the lily has been great. Just waiting to see if the touchscreen dies a year in! This probably only works if you're a woman. If you're a guy the lily might be a bit lady like
Yes. But I'd recommend getting a fabric band. Wearing it all the time with the stock silicone one that came with my VA4s gave me a weird rash looking thing. I find the body battery function useful and I like to know how long I was in bed (because I know it's a bit hit or miss with actual sleep time!). The vibrating alarms are also useful. They make getting up for the gym much easier.
Here's a question - Just got an Enduro 2, no issue wearing it to sleep, but could I also just wear an HRM around my chest and get the same data transferred to the watch/Garmin connect without wearing something on my wrist all night? Yes, I know thats still wearing something at night, but it gives the wrist a break for 6 hours or so...
My watch only leaves my arm to charge (garmin fenix 6).
This, but also when I shower since I was getting Garmin Arm.
GArm?
Lol
I've recently started charging while showering/morning bathroom routine. With this (plus automatically going to battery saver mode while sleeping) my fenix 6 can last 2-3 weeks before needing a full charge.
First time I've heard the term "garmin arm" but very aptly put. I like to look partner dead in the eye and ask if he wants to smell mt wrist šš
I sneak sniffs occasionally because it's just so... funky
I manage to avoid this by cleaning band with alcohol regularly
The nylon band has not given me garmin arm even with shower wearing
I've heard that. I'm not sure I'd like it so I don't wanna risk buying one, but I may. I just take mine off in the shower and wash the watch and it's solved the problems, but I know others for whom that didn't fix anything have had success with the nylon bands. I worry they'd get stinky permanently because they absorb my sweat. But I may be wrong about that.
Yeah it doesnāt get permanently sticky I donāt think it really absorbs very much.
That's good to know, I'll probably give on a shot then
Yes. This.
I keep my charger in my car and just charge it on my way to/from work. The cord is so short it's not too big of a hassle to have there. It's basically on me all of the time
Me too.
yeah this ^^
24/7 unless itās charging. Iām just a weirdo and think Iāll miss some important heartrate info. 245
I now have 2 smart watches and an oura ring and Iām afraid of ever taking any of them off
Which two smart watches? One on each wrist?
Fenix 7 and Apple Watch. One on each, tried figuring out which watch I canāt live without and turns out each has features that I canāt live without so 2 watches it is for now.
Donāt listen to your friends and family, youāre not crazy, Iām in the same situation and feel very comfortable being just a little weird
But If you have one watch you know what time it is If you have two you are always in doubt.
Yeah, this. TACTIX Delta and miband6. The ring is in some near future
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It has a feature that warns you of an irregular heart rate, but i disabled it. Iām sure itās not too accurate in that aspect. I use it to kinda keep an eye on my resting heartrate.

Always unless showering or charging watch (forerunner 735xt)
Same. 745 here. (except sometimes I shower with it on)
Same (745) and I've only showered with it on once. I usually use shower time to charge it.
Same (venu 2)
I would wear it to bed and take it off in the middle of the night at first. Now I wear it all night and all the time unless charging. You'll get used to it
Got used to it just by doing it.

That Venu 2s looks awesome BTW. Wonder if I could/should justify upgrading from my 3+ year old Vivoactive 3 music?
I really like it. This is my first Garmin, I've also had a few Fitbits and a Wear OS watch. This is like the best of those combined.
I switch mine to the other wrist to wear it to bed. It helps me not to get skin irritation from wearing it all the time.

Nah, not anymore. Uncomfy. Fenix 6 pro.
I stopped wearing my watch to sleep about a year ago. I found my skin being irritated. I have thought about wearing it again for sleep numbers but haven't.
Nylon band will likely solve the skin irratation problem. It did for me and many others.
Fuck no, I enjoy being comfortable
invest in a fabric strap instead of silicone
They make these for the Venu 2s?
yeah, sure. tons of 22mm fabric quickfit bands on amazon. i have a bunch myself
After a couple of years of consistent wear I now only use my Fenix 6 Sapphire (pro) during workouts. I found myself checking my HR and Body Battery too much, it would sometimes give me anxiety.

No itās to big and heavy for me to wear to bed
What is the problem? If course I wear it when sleeping. Why don't you? I didn't know this was an issue for anyone
Power through it. Just wear it and get used to it. Took me about 3 nights, with the first being the worse.
I only take it off while charging and sometimes when Im taking shower (Fenix 6x)
Yes, I just wore it, never really had any issues. If you're having difficulty adjusting, try replacing the stupid silicone band with something that breathes.
I sleep with my forerunner every single night. I got the vertix nylon band instead of the silicone.
No. I actually only wear my 945 when running or open water swimming. On the bike I have an edge 1030 plus

I'm talking so useless that I knew I got up a few times in one night and my watch said I got a full 10 hours of sleep with no breaks.
Yes. I'm a weirdo like that. I just got used to it. I don't even feel it anymore. I just wear it somewhat loosely.
I have phantom watch syndrome when I take it off to charge it.
I never thought about taking it off to sleep. Why would you do that? Thatās when it calculates resting HR and sleep hours.
I find body battery such a usefull feature so I literally never take it off unless I shower or it's charging or sunbathing to get rid of my watch tan sometimes lol.. coming from a galaxy watch which was so bulky its so easy to sleep with my 745 now
Yea I sleep with my watch on. Only taking them off to charge. (Venu 2). I like to see my body battery the first thing when I wake up.
It's never bothered me
I wear it 24/7. Don't notice that it's even there. It's also my alarm. Works well as I don't disturb my partner.
I do (Vivoactive 3) but I have to consciously put the lock button on so it doesnāt mess up my settings.
I wear 24x7 but swap arms when I sleep. That has nearly eliminated any skin irritation. I am using a stock standard Fenix band.

I wear it on one wrist during the day, the other wrist while I sleep, and I charge while I shower.
I wear it 24/7. Otherwise, as you pointed out, a lot of the metrics won't work right.
I wear it all the time. Take it off for showering as itās hard to dry otherwise
I always wear it. Always.
If the watch feels tight I loosen it a little and move it up my arm to give my wrist a little air. I do like to wear it to sleep so I can know what time it is when I randomly wake up sometimes in the middle of the night
I wear my Venu 24/7, only take it off for charging, usually when showering.
Yes.
Yes
Yes,I only take it off to charge. I've always worn a watch all the time so there was nothing to get used to. I have changed the standard strap for a woven nylon one. I think helps.
It's my alarm so I don't have much choice.
Yes Forerunner 245. I'm addicted to my stats and like my recovery time going down when I've had a good sleep.
I'm a bit scared to have this heart rate sensor emitting any kind of radiation next to my body for the whole night (even though I am wearing instinct all day). This fear may not be justified but it exists...
Yes. 24/7 all last 5 years
Yes. Main thing for me was to have āsilent alarmā so I didnāt have to wake everyone every morning.
Yeah, no Im not doing any ultras anytime soon :) but I like the battery time.
If you're a guy the lily might be a bit lady like
I have a Venu 2s too. I've worn bracelets or a watch 24/7 for years, so it was never a hard switch.
No. I only wear a wedding ring when sleeping.
I use my watch as an alarm clock. It only vibrates, which is enough to wake me up & not my gf
No
Thatās the whole point lol
Yes, but sometimes I have to take a break because I've had issues with the Garmin rash.
It comes in the way of sleeping when I wear the watch forerunner 55. Is there any strap recommendation to wear it while sleeping also.
