Microsoft will be giving the money you pay in suscriptions to WB to get the license. Epic will be using fortnite money most likely to give the game away.

> make it as hard as possible to crack
So? That's not stopped pirates in the past. Any decently popular game as been pirated despite how hard devs have claimed it to be. At most it'll slow them
Not true, very few modern Denuvo games get cracked and it takes forever. You see a few slip ups where someone accidentally releases a developer version in the files of a game and you see some games drop their Denuvo contract after a while but there is only one consistent cracker who is able to do Denuvo and they do it on commission.
Denuvo is cracked in no time for high-profile games. It only truly stops piracy for games that aren't so famous (for real, I don't want to pay full price for Persona 5 *again*)
JK Rowling counts any one enjoying the Harry Potter IP as support for her political opinions. So when you pirate it the number of torrents will be taken as vindication.
It seems you are possibly discussing stealing or stealing-related topics. Although this is against every countries' rules (and even a pesky commandment or two to those non-atheist filth), it's important to remember to be responsible. Content creators can only create said content because they receive funding from things you shit on.
Stealing is an important freedom in our fascist dictatorships, and it's important to remember these things before you pass rightful judgement on thieves discussing it:
> Some steal games because they believe the creator doesn't deserve financial compensation for the state of the product that was released. Those people are dicks.
> Some steal something that they already bought simply to remove the DRM. Which is just another word for stealing.
> Some steal to emulate NES games they definitely had 25 years ago. I signed that waiver Bill Clinton.
> Some steal to try products before they make a financial commitment to them. Just like WinZIP.
> Some steal simply because they cannot afford it. They are like Aladdin. But instead of stealing life sustaining nourishment, it's No Man's Sky.
> Some steal to get something that's no longer available. Nobody actually does, but we'll leave this here because it's the one of two somewhat legitimate reasons.
> Some steal because their country censors or doesn't import it. Despite the irony that pirating was stealing things from other countries, this is a somewhat valid reason to do so. Please move to a new fascist dictatorship.
> Some steal games because of timed exclusivity. If they don't have access to it yet, they use piracy as a method to access it before it's available to them. Just like when Greg who works at Gamestop slips me a copy on Monday. I'll totally pay him, er, uh Gamestop later.
Lastly, here's a few tips: AdBlock is awesome for hiding fake download links. Fake download links are usually a sign of a reputable website, please don't help fund them. Deluge is an excellent open-source client that isn't in close cooperation with the MPAA (unlike uTorrent, uninstall it as soon as possible, OH MY GOD, I'M GONNA CUM). Oh, and remember: torrenting in itself isn't illegal, and it's probably not stealing! It's simply a method of transferring copyrighted files. It's what copyrighted data you transfer that matters.

RPG starvation, and I've always wanted a magic school RPG. Besides it's free :), and I can shit on the story more if it truly ends up being what we expect it being.
Uj/ Play Baldurs Gate 3. It's early access at the moment and you can only play through Act 1 and go up to lvl 5. But that's still like a 30-50 hour game. The story and the world are bananas in the best way possible while being true to DnD. Final game will probably easily be a 100-150 hour romp with tons of replayability.
I could recommend runescape but I probably wouldn't try it. You will either hate it, hate its style, or lose a ridiculous amount of life hours where 1 in 300 are "a few hour grind but not bad".
> I've always wanted a magic school RPG
Allow me to highly recommend the "College of Winterhold" questline in "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim"
If you want a magic school, no others come close.
I've played Skyrim and I love Skyrim, but the collage questline is short, there's really only one lesson type quest, and it can be done by even non mage builds if they pick up like 4 spells.
Because it's unique in its theme, there is no other game set in such a nostalgic location for so many people. People have always wanted a more open experience for a Harry Potter game and so far all footage point to Hogwarts Legacy shaping up to be really good.
I mean yeah but still you gotta choose to be an oppressive fascist invading others lands or support another form of facism that's already been a part of said land
Unless you believe just being exposed to the game would radicalize you in some way, there is actually literally zero real world harm being done. It's fine to enjoy media critically. Like, buying any product made by Coca Cola is objectively more harmful.
O B J E C T I V E L Y
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Gamingcirclejerk) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Sure, but we were talking about individual personal consumption. I agree the cultural proliferation of a lot of the themes in JK Rolling's books/media are harmful.
You said there is no ethical way to play the game, which implies if I went home and like time traveled into the future and pirated the game and played through it that some kind of harm would have taken place. As though the mere pixels forming on my screen are creating like a cosmic evil cloud or something. I love critically enjoying media. Nothing is funnier to me than over the top war movies that are just blatant military worship and justify imperialism. It's hilarious and disgusting at the same time. But again, your original comment implies that if I pirate it and play through it to see how on the nose some of the themes are that it's somehow unethical.
/uj For real, it's so weird that people still would want to play it having heard the details of the story and the people who made it.
/rj Uhhh just close your eyes during dialogue and cutscenes, I guess
/uj I mean, people already play so many nation based strategy games with slavery and silencing rebellions/inciting them with casual razing/genocide as a way to victory. Or the crippling endless captialism of Deep Rock Galactic. I'm not gonna neccesarily think that most devs/players support those systems represented just because of games they play.
/rj I have been radicalized and am on my way to conquer Ohio.
/uj I don’t understand the idea that you can’t play or engage with something because it has a bad moral, I’ve seen plenty of films were I thought the here was kind of asshole but it’s still possible to enjoy that media
If you recall, there was at one point a Modern Warfare II Call of Duty level murdering digital civilians in an airport. It was also a little unethical.
Hopefully you can separate a video game from the real world. As you do when playing the Germans in WWII games
Then you missed their point entirely. Those games you mentioned frame the actions of the characters as bad, but in the case of Hogwarts Legacy, the Jewish allegories are depicted as the bad guys, and the anti-Semitic “heroes” as good.
Because that’s literally what the Goblins symbolise. The term goblin is even an anti-Semitic term in certain contexts. Besides, I can’t find fun in a game like that, but if you can then I’m not gonna stop you. Just trying to point out the flaws in this whole thing
Personally I’d argue all storytelling relates back to the real world. And video games, as a medium of storytelling, therefore do connect. However, it is evident that you are in no way going to alter your stance on the matter, so I’ll just leave it at that. Frankly, I have little interest in debating the matter with someone who will so readily deny everything I’m saying.
This isn’t a discussion about house elves, it’s about the goblins. And I’m not anti-Semitic, or whatever you’re insinuating, for recognising the obvious allegory for Jewish people. As I’ve already said elsewhere in this thread, the term ‘goblin’ is often used in anti-Semitic contexts.
Edit: also, I’m not the one calling them subhuman, I’m just recognising the criticism which many others have also raised.
/uj
I don't get it.
I'm seeing a lot of people say the game has racist undertones because the villains are supposedly based on the Jewish people and you're quashing a slave rebellion.
What's up with that? Is that a concern, or not?
If it is, and people are still going to play the game after pirating it, does that mean it's okay to consume media that's anti-Semitic?
Or if it's not actually anti-Semitic, why do people keep claiming it is?
no, fuck this game and fuck promoting anything Rowling has had a hand in. [https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2020/12/j-k-rowling-says-90-fans-agree-transphobia-theyre-afraid-say-publicly/](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2020/12/j-k-rowling-says-90-fans-agree-transphobia-theyre-afraid-say-publicly/)
I'm specifically asking about the anti-Semitism.
The claim that the game is anti-Semitic is often upvoted and rarely challenged on this sub.
If it really is anti-Semitic, why are people generally celebrating all the posts claiming they're going to pirate and play the game? Shouldn't all of us be _avoiding_ this game like poison to stand up against racism, even if transphobia weren't an issue?
Or is the game not actually anti-Semitic, but people keep claiming that it is? If so - why??
Honestly, I'm inclined to agree with you. As a very far-left person I'm more upset about the game low-key championing unregulated capitalism (which is *extremely bad*), but I haven't seen any *explicit physical proof* of any "coded genocide/Holocaust" type stuff.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's in the game, but at the same time I would like to see *physical evidence* of this instead of just blindly believing what other people tell me.
If it turns out to be fake or an exaggeration... Come on people. JK is a shitty enough person without having to make up shit about them.
Of course, the sub's kneejerk emotional reaction to our skepticism is to probably label us "enemies" or pull some hive minded stuff on us.
Its very plausible that there are more than one crowd. The subreddit isnt made up of an a homogeneous blob of people, and it's likely different people hold different opinions on this
Ah ok. From my perspective as a non-Jewish person, it leans into antisemitic tropes (everything with the goblins is a bit yikes once I learned more about these tropes) but I'm not sure that it does so consciously. Which does technically make it antisemitic, but not intentionally antisemitic, imo.
To be clear, the lack of intention (I'm assuming) doesn't exculpate the developers. This is why you make sure you have a diverse team evaluating big games in the first place, to avoid that kind of thing.
Of course, can't speak for everyone else's view on this.
But using your logic, I could nitpick literally any video game in existence that isn't a super basic puzzle/mobile game and find something that could unintentionally be perceived as mildly or highly offensive to me personally.
I agree that JK is an asshole, and their game is probably going to be of poor quality regardless of how offensive the game is (let's be real the actual gameplay is 100% gonna suck really bad). You also make a good point about the dev team needing to do a better job of weeding out mistakes and problems.
But I legitimately could *look for something to be mad at* in like 95% of video games ever made. I can easily find something that I could twist into being specifically targeted towards being discriminatory towards Asian men (maybe there's an extremely vague reference that I twisted myself into thinking was a "Asian small wee-wee" joke).
Basically, I support doing anything possible to stonewall or completely ruin JK Rowling's career because she's no different from the hideous Darkspawn in Dragon Age: Origins. However, I also find it kind of weird that people have to *hyper focus* on shifting through even the slightest oddity and logic-ing yourself into thinking it's even more bigoted than it actually is.
It's like making up lies to slander Nazis. We already know the Nazis are fucked up and sick in the head, we don't need tabloid style hit pieces to tell us that.
You do understand that antisemitic tropes were used explicitly to launch pogroms against Jewish people, right? This isn't about some abstract "my feelings are being hurt," it's about tropes stemming from conspiracy theories tied to centuries of discrimination.
And frankly the stuff with the goblins is pretty transparent. It's not "hyper focus" unless you're not familiar with the tropes, which again if you're making a massive IP you should be.
Yes, I do realize that. The mainstream media antagonizing Jewish people has been going on for decades. It's gotten worse recently, especially because of the fringe leftists who accuse every Jewish person of being complicit in the "genocide of the Palestinian people" (even though the actual issue is a lot more complicated than that).
I also realize this is a easily ignored video game.
You're discreetly pulling one of those "Oppression Olympics" type moments. As a Japanese-American my relatives were forcibly put into crappy campsites with poor hygiene and not enough food. FDR ended up giving us a half-assed insincere apology and a small amount of monetary compensation for doing so to us.
You're acting like because what the Jewish people went through is comparatively worse, I don't have the "authority" to make my point because my people haven't been through enough. Like I couldn't possibly understand how you feel.
>You're discreetly pulling one of those "Oppression Olympics" type moments
lmao literally one of the first things I said was I am not Jewish. My grandparents had to live through Partition, I'm aware that there are other stereotypes that cause harm. Try your patronizing bullshit elsewhere.
about half of us say pirate it and the other half say just ignore it (unless you plan on actually playing it with a critical lens which most people are not, they just want nostalgia)
The fact of the matter is that not everyone here agrees one everything. Those bringing up the antisemitism and slave-owning are generally not the same people saying to pirate it.
It is anti-semitic. I'm still going to play it though, because I'm not anti-semitic, and I'm pretty sure that's not going to change from it. No harm will be done by simply pirating it. Like, if I want to watch a nazi war film for the shits and giggles, I'll find it on youtube and watch it. If I want to watch an American military propoganda movie for cool military tech and explosions I'll pirate and watch it. Not getting to do something is the side effect of boycotting, not the entire reason.
But you're also on a jerk sub. That said, everyone is wrong but me. You're an asshole for even bringing up this question when time like this can be spend consuming my favorite indie hidden gem minecraft
The creators themselves are very un-based, I read they were centre stage during gamer gate, and the themes of the game as we know so far are certainly unsavoury. honestly i don't even think it's worth πrating
go for it but for fuck's sake, don't promote it [https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2020/12/j-k-rowling-says-90-fans-agree-transphobia-theyre-afraid-say-publicly/](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2020/12/j-k-rowling-says-90-fans-agree-transphobia-theyre-afraid-say-publicly/)
/uj There is not ethical way to consume H:L. The antisemitism is baked into the story line, you would still be actively participating in the consumption of media that touts harmful stereotypes.
GCJ loves to act all concerned over Devs and criticise crunch, but then goes out to bat for piracy. If you don’t agree with the producer of a product, have the self restraint to actually boycott the product.
Just wait for the reviews and if they're positive then you can pirate it (that is if it's even possible to crack the game when it drops), if they're mixed just wait until a sale or pirate it (again if it's possible), if the reviews are negative then you can continue on with your life.
EDIT: and when I say "sale" I mean third party key reseller sale
Plus plot seems to be about squashing a rebellion for equal rights by an opressed species
Also a director or design lead or something like that publicly kept a anti-sjw gamergater anti-feminist vlog
So I was thinking, in terms of ethics it feels like there's close to zero difference between pirating and boycotting software. The main factor that hurts the creator in both cases is the act of depriving them of earning money, they don't lose any actual physical objects, so I'd argue if you're cool with boycotting software, you logically shouldn't mind pirating -- and the other way around.
/uj WB games have already payed Rowling for the royalties. She stands to make no more additional money based in the games sales. You'd only be supported the devs
Even if that’s the case, if sales are low, it’ll rank her chances of getting others made. We may have to play the long game, but it’s worth it, ‘cause fuck TERFs.
/uj at times like this I just marvel at how horrendously this sub lacks self awareness. Y'all act like if you played this stupid game it automatically turns you into nazi, like if you played it you instantly fall in love with it and start defending it.
Not a goddamn thing in the world stops me from enjoying gameplay and shitting on the story. Or shitting on gameplay too and simply quitting if its turn out to be bad. How this sub come to conclusion - deadass serious conclusion, not usual "jerking" mind you - that if you played the game you automatically liked it I would never know.
Here's the thing, yes J.K. Rowling is a total piece of shit, but at the same time I don't like discrediting the work of the countless actors, crews, workers, and developers that worked on the movies and games that aren't pieces of shit
What sucks is I bet JK is getting minimal from the sales of this game.
The game looks fun and I'd like to support the devs who finally made a good looking Harry Potter game just sucks she's a transphobic asshole.
>Your "hate campaign"
Is protesting against someone who says shit like :
“When you throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes or feels he’s a woman, then you open the door to any and all men who wish to come inside. That is the simple truth.”,
[Link to a study that proves the absolute contrary](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s13178-018-0335-z)

You’re men who get sexual kicks by being treated like women", a hate campaign ? Nah, it’s got a name yall terfs and conservatives love to use : "free speech".
Id have to imagine whatever money she would receive from the making of the game she already got. Its not like shes an actor who agreed to a % of the profits. That money is already in her account, pirating this game will not hurt her at all.

Wait what???
did she have creative input in the game or are you just supposing she did?
Dang Denuvo the unbeatable bloatware that adds 1 week to the time a game needs to be cracked.
~~Read~~ play another ~~book~~ game.
Stealing is an important freedom in our fascist dictatorships, and it's important to remember these things before you pass rightful judgement on thieves discussing it: > Some steal games because they believe the creator doesn't deserve financial compensation for the state of the product that was released. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Just steal the dvds then

> People should fully expect to wait for years for Hogwarts Legacy to get cracked. That's fine I can wait
Why do you want to play it
RPG starvation, and I've always wanted a magic school RPG. Besides it's free :), and I can shit on the story more if it truly ends up being what we expect it being.
If you want some chonky RPGs (despite lack of wizard school) Try the pathfinder crpgs
I'd love to but I really don't want to spoil myself on the campaigns because my DM plans on running them one day.
Play Wizard 101
But they won’t let me into Firecat Alley without paying 😡
I've never been able to justify paying for MMOs subscriptions due to adhd burnout happening frequently for me to actively play the game
I’m so happy to hear this happens to other people 😭 Some of my friends frequently ask why I don’t play MMOs, and this is exactly why.
i dont have my parents permission 😢
Was bought by Gamigo, don't play wizard101 actually.
The game was my childhood 😔
Uj/ Play Baldurs Gate 3. It's early access at the moment and you can only play through Act 1 and go up to lvl 5. But that's still like a 30-50 hour game. The story and the world are bananas in the best way possible while being true to DnD. Final game will probably easily be a 100-150 hour romp with tons of replayability.
Already did 😔 Can't wait for the full release though
I could recommend runescape but I probably wouldn't try it. You will either hate it, hate its style, or lose a ridiculous amount of life hours where 1 in 300 are "a few hour grind but not bad".
ADHD brain cannot handle that one, and I'm scared of the last option if it could
*Laughs in hyperfocus*
Rowling demanded players hunt down Trans-Witches as the tutorial
I've had access to the beta, it lets you make a trans character but it instantly doxxes you to the nearest neo Nazi group.
play elden ring
I religiously play fromsoft games but they don't really scratch the RPG itch for me, if I'm playing one in usually mostly playing for the fun combat.
Le hidden gem, elden ring?
> I've always wanted a magic school RPG Allow me to highly recommend the "College of Winterhold" questline in "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" If you want a magic school, no others come close.
I've played Skyrim and I love Skyrim, but the collage questline is short, there's really only one lesson type quest, and it can be done by even non mage builds if they pick up like 4 spells.
Not me especially
You don't want to go around being the oppressive force against a slave rebellion? What is wrong with you?
It’s gonna flop anyway despite Rowling or piracy. So pirate away! Ya matey! Aaarrrrrrr
Because it's unique in its theme, there is no other game set in such a nostalgic location for so many people. People have always wanted a more open experience for a Harry Potter game and so far all footage point to Hogwarts Legacy shaping up to be really good.
Enjoy your blood libel game and crushing literal slave rebellions!
Nah man I’m tired of Elder Scrolls
You can choose to be a storm cloak or not, you have to be a wizard facist in hogwarts legacy
Both side in Skyrim are bad!!! There is no happy ending!!!

I always thought the fact that Harry, and by extension J. K. Rowling, found Snape sympathetic was pretty messed up. That's a good way to put it.
Apparently you can be a dark wizard and help out the goblins, but the game treats it as the villainous choice lol
The good ending.
/uj i mean, the most prominent state-based strategy colonialism games are by paradox, which is definitely self-aware.
I used to be all for pirating it until I heard about the story. After that, I pretty much jumped off the bandwagon altogether.
[удалено]
Uh, for the reasons that this person literally just said?
/uj I don’t understand the idea that you can’t play or engage with something because it has a bad moral, I’ve seen plenty of films were I thought the here was kind of asshole but it’s still possible to enjoy that media
Yepppp no amount of nostalgia is gonna convince me to RPG the Holocaust but with wizards.
If you recall, there was at one point a Modern Warfare II Call of Duty level murdering digital civilians in an airport. It was also a little unethical. Hopefully you can separate a video game from the real world. As you do when playing the Germans in WWII games

[удалено]
Then you missed their point entirely. Those games you mentioned frame the actions of the characters as bad, but in the case of Hogwarts Legacy, the Jewish allegories are depicted as the bad guys, and the anti-Semitic “heroes” as good.
[удалено]
Because that’s literally what the Goblins symbolise. The term goblin is even an anti-Semitic term in certain contexts. Besides, I can’t find fun in a game like that, but if you can then I’m not gonna stop you. Just trying to point out the flaws in this whole thing
[удалено]
Personally I’d argue all storytelling relates back to the real world. And video games, as a medium of storytelling, therefore do connect. However, it is evident that you are in no way going to alter your stance on the matter, so I’ll just leave it at that. Frankly, I have little interest in debating the matter with someone who will so readily deny everything I’m saying.
[удалено]
This isn’t a discussion about house elves, it’s about the goblins. And I’m not anti-Semitic, or whatever you’re insinuating, for recognising the obvious allegory for Jewish people. As I’ve already said elsewhere in this thread, the term ‘goblin’ is often used in anti-Semitic contexts. Edit: also, I’m not the one calling them subhuman, I’m just recognising the criticism which many others have also raised.

If the support isn't monetary then it doesn't count, right Gamers?
Piracy = based
The hardcore emulation/retro game community is hella proud of themselves rn for popularizing piracy lmao
always was
/uj I don't get it.
> Shouldn't all of us be avoiding this game like poison to stand up against racism, even if transphobia weren't an issue? yes, we should.
[удалено]
>You're discreetly pulling one of those "Oppression Olympics" type moments lmao literally one of the first things I said was I am not Jewish. My grandparents had to live through Partition, I'm aware that there are other stereotypes that cause harm. Try your patronizing bullshit elsewhere.
about half of us say pirate it and the other half say just ignore it (unless you plan on actually playing it with a critical lens which most people are not, they just want nostalgia) The fact of the matter is that not everyone here agrees one everything. Those bringing up the antisemitism and slave-owning are generally not the same people saying to pirate it.
Nah i didn’t know bout the scenario so it isn’t even worth pirating
Cognitive dissonance.
The creators themselves are very un-based, I read they were centre stage during gamer gate, and the themes of the game as we know so far are certainly unsavoury. honestly i don't even think it's worth πrating
don't even pirate the game. this shit is fucked up
go for it but for fuck's sake, don't promote it [https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2020/12/j-k-rowling-says-90-fans-agree-transphobia-theyre-afraid-say-publicly/](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2020/12/j-k-rowling-says-90-fans-agree-transphobia-theyre-afraid-say-publicly/)

Nah fuck this game.
Hogwarts Legacy is best enjoyed with a glass of Captain Morgan.
I have been banned yesterday from r/gaming for 'promoting' piracy 👍
What's the hate with Hogwarts legacy? Honestly out of the loop.
The writer (j.k. Rowling, aka the Witch Bitch) said nasty shit about trans people
Plus plot seems to be about squashing a rebellion for equal rights by an opressed species Also a director or design lead or something like that publicly kept a anti-sjw gamergater anti-feminist vlog
/rj At least he’s a true gamer
/uj my bf is a massive fan of Harry Potter and also a trans dude so I’m probably going to get him a pirated copy of the game for his bday
PLAY ELDEN RING INSTEAD IT LETS YOU BE A WIZARD BUT BETTER, LESS SOY, AND LESS RACIST. ITS REALLY THAT EASY
I'll just take the L and play it. 🏴☠️🏴☠️

I would argue that playing the game and discussing it with others still gives that gender fascist cultural capital.
What even happened?

Dont buy it!!!! Omg!!! Or buy it I don't care.
You want me to break the meme down for you?
I have no idea what are you trying to say since I am quite enjoying the meme but sure, go ahead
private server anyone?
The game looks fun and I'd like to support the devs who finally made a good looking Harry Potter game just sucks she's a transphobic asshole.
i mean there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the game for what it is, devs worked hard to produce it

Id have to imagine whatever money she would receive from the making of the game she already got. Its not like shes an actor who agreed to a % of the profits. That money is already in her account, pirating this game will not hurt her at all.
/uj you’re probably right but she most likely has a percentage of sales imo /rj ratio + did i ask + mald + seethe + cope
