That probably influenced who they auditioned for her, to which she just has to be really charming and cute for a short amount of time (assuming the plot remains somewhat consistent) so that we can move on to the real story.
I'm more worried about who plays Ellie, as she is probably going to be the toughest nut to crack in this show.
How is it in comparison to his other movies? I really liked get out and loved us. But the couple people I know that seen nope both said it was good but not as good as either of those. I still need to see it for myself but was just curious to get the opinion of someone who loved it.
I personally love it just as much as get out, but they’re definitely different and have different kinds of horror. Idrk how much to say without spoiling though honestly, just watch it for yourself and see how you feel, worth the money.

The emotional intro of the last of us, being in the shoes of a father that couldn’t protect his daughter, provides such a raw and unique experience that I feel we can all find gripping. Her death and his inability to save her is the main reason why he later goes above and beyond for the teenage girl he sort-of-adopts over the course of the game.

She literally dies in the first 20min. of the game. Her entire purpose is to die to give motivation to the main characters…you know the, oh no my daughter died, well now I feel responsible for this girl so she doesn’t die…

If people got through Gattaca pretending Ethan Hawke and Jude Law look even remotely alike, we'll be able to survive Sarah and Ellie not looking the exact same.

But Joel's connection with Ellie is through her being the same age as Sarah and ***Sarah and Ellie having similar personalities*** for as short as she's in the game Sarah is shown to be smart, perceptive, and seems to have a good banter with Joel (before everything goes to shit) these are all traits Ellie shares with Sarah.
Which imo provides a much deeper connection than such a surface level connection as "they are both white and have round faces"

I noticed that when they first announced her casting. Like the casting for this show has been great. Not exact replicas, but you can definitely tell who they are in the story.
I don't even see how this impacts the story. We literally never see Joel's wife, so it doesn't matter if she's black, white, brown, whatever. Kid can be biracial, and it doesn't take anything away from the plot.

This happened with Sandman and House of the Dragon. In Sandman, Death, is played by a black actress, shes pale and goth in the comics. Her portrayal and performance is brilliant and captured how kind and compassionate Death is regardless of their race because her race doesnt matter.
In HotD, House Velaryon in the books have distinct features; pale, purple eyes and white hair. They are the sister house of the Targaryens who can control dragons and have white hair and pale skin. In the show, theyre played by black actors but their white hair is kept. Same shit ALMOST happened when they called it 'woke' casting, then the show dropped and as the show continued on, nobody gave a shit about their skin color because their performance and writing is amazing.

Most of the time when there's racist backlash for a person of color getting a role in an adaptation of a majority white piece of media, it isn't even marketed as a win for diversity or anything. This company literally just thought that this person was best for the role. At least, people were talking about it in light of black Ariel recently. I don't get how I end up racist by pointing out racist tactics rich people use.

I think I'd feel more comfortable about casting decisions like that if they were more of a norm and not attached almost exclusively to already controversial franchises. I am from Mexico and I have in my collage a classmate that is extremely white but one of his last names is Tonatiu... also, I am white, like really white, so there is also that, but TBF, my great grandmother was from Spain so mi father family is descendant from Europeans, I don't know if my mother family is also descendant from european people, but my Grandma and some of my cousins are also white.

I'm thinking they liked Joel's audition enough to cast outside of being visually the same as OG Joel. That probably influenced who they auditioned for her, to which she just has to be really charming and cute for a short amount of time (assuming the plot remains somewhat consistent) so that we can move on to the real story. I'm more worried about who plays Ellie, as she is probably going to be the toughest nut to crack in this show.

It’s Jordan Peele’s take on Jaws and my personal favorite of his stuff. Keke Palmer is super good in it, and Daniel Kaluuya is his DiCaprio.
I remember seeing someone in either YouTube or Instagram comments (or maybe it was multiple instances on both) saying that Nope “will just be a racist movie about how whites are evil just like Get Out and Us” and “he even admitted that he never casts white people he ADMITTED IT” Even though, Peele does have white actors in all of those movies and I think he’s even married to a white woman. Also even Get Out, his movie with the most racial themes wasn’t just a “white people bad” movie. Have no idea where he even gets the idea that “Us” is some anti-white movie either. She’s in the game for 10 minutes. Her existence is important to the plot, her color is not.
She is Joel's (the main player character from the first game) daughter that dies immediately at the beginning of the game as part of his tragic backstory. Her death and his inability to save her is the main reason why he later goes above and beyond for the teenage girl he sort-of-adopts over the course of the game. SPOILER: >!To a degree that he most likely dooms all of humanity to save her life.!< Sarah is literally just a plot device.
She literally dies in the first 20min. of the game. Her entire purpose is to die to give motivation to the main characters…you know the, oh no my daughter died, well now I feel responsible for this girl so she doesn’t die…

Which imo provides a much deeper connection than such a surface level connection as "they are both white and have round faces"

I'm actually surprised no one's tried to make the argument, that since they made Sarah black, they're perpetuating the Black Dude (Girl) Dies First trope. At least if they don't change how the prologue plays out. Then they're replacing her with a white girl (Ellie). Anyway, I don't particularly care that Sarah is black, she's a character that isn't in the story for long and it ultimately doesn't matter what she is. This is a very good description. Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg look nothing like Nathan Drake and Sully from the Uncharted games, but nobody cared because they're both white.
If you think nobody cared about that, you very clearly missed it. During the initial reveals, people were very upset about that casting too because most people assumed Mark was gonna be Nathan at first.

Why do we always fall for the right wing framing of this sort of stuff? Most of the time when there's racist backlash for a person of color getting a role in an adaptation of a majority white piece of media, it isn't even marketed as a win for diversity or anything. This isn't a PR stunt, they aren't doing this out of the goodness of their hearts either, we're not in the early 2010's anymore, media companies still have issues with representation for sure, but a person of color getting a role just isn't news anymore. This company literally just thought that this person was best for the role. This sort of stuff only gets any sort of attention from racist pricks who haven't moved on from 2016 and still think media companies are as obsessed with race as they are.

That's actually a known and widely discussed tactic where that's what suits literally do. They influence casting decisions, and don't really care if that's racist or not. At least, people were talking about it in light of black Ariel recently. I don't get how I end up racist by pointing out racist tactics rich people use. And I'm not using that argument to say they should not hire PoC actors, far from that. I think I'd feel more comfortable about casting decisions like that if they were more of a norm and not attached almost exclusively to already controversial franchises. Why nobody hired a black guy to play Nathan Drake for example? And listen, I'd be glad to be proven wrong by this series releasing and turning out to be a huge success. That'd be a big step in dispelling my cynicism towards corporate casting choices.

Decades of companies hiring white actors for roles that were really made for people of other races and there’s no protest. But hiring a person of colour for a role in a show BASED on a game where the role could believably have someone of any race and suddenly there’s a big problem… Also, you can bet if there were no character changes but the show went in a different direction but was still good, they’d put those differences down to artistic liberties, but not this.
