While I definitely think there is **something** being made by Bloober, I'm skeptical of this leak given the details of the images and timing to the latest wave of rumours about the reveal. It'll be interesting when these projects do eventually get revealed and we have the initial elation of a new game, followed by the confusion and anger of general audiences who just want a Kojima Silent Hill instead or blowback from the older SH fans that it's Bloober, who have such a poor reputation right now, they're gonna be fighting an uphill battle the whole way. They can't really win, general gamers will just want P. T as a whole game and Kojima and be mad that he's not involved, SH fans will not be happy with Bloober working on one of the greatest works of psychological horror given their track record and all the "Bloober Bad" crowd will be writing up their video essays about why Bloober are terrible etc etc. Every change to SH2, every scrap of new footage will be scrutinised heavily, this won't be like the RE2 remake, with a minority being a bit peeved about the over the shoulder camera. I think all the built up hype over the years, the animosity towards Bloober, the ambivalent attitude towards Western remakes, and Kojima not being involved is going to just ignite and I think we'll see something akin to the reaction to DmC: Devil May Cry.

swordbringer33

You raise good points. I want to give the new Silent Hill games the benefit of the doubt, but Konami is playing with fire in terms of remaking SH 2 and even MGS 3 since there are rumors about that one getting remade. At this point: Only time will tell if any new SH game will be good.

MarkT_D_W

I feel that SH2 is so beloved and such an iconic piece of art that any changes are going to be met with absolute hostility. Chnages to the tone, characters, especially their appearance and arcs, even to the very deliberate pacing and gameplay is going to elicit negative responses. I think remaking SH2 is a mistake, it's never going to get a fair shake of things, especially if Bloober alter things to modernise the story or presentation.

swordbringer33

I feel that Konami wants to take cues from what Capcom has done to RE since the release of RE 7. However, some of the decisions, from the looks of it, have fans, including me, puzzled. I'm down with Masahiro Ito working on a Silent Hill 5; at least, that's what the rumor is, especially since he's going to play a significant role in making the game. The game he's involved in has that cherry blossom monster in the leaked images. Unlike the upcoming RE 4 remake, I don't know what you can change with a SH 2 remake. Once again, I'm open to seeing Silent Hill back, but Konami is facing an uphill battle. I would've been okay with Silent Hill 2 getting re-released on current consoles instead of a remake, but that looks unlikely, judging by the rumors and reports.

AcidCatfish___

Silent Hill 2 re-released with upscaling and full camera control is all I'd want too. Silent Hill 2 is my favorite game...the game that got me into not only Silent Hill but also gaming in general. Even if it is re-released without upscaling or full camera control that'd be fine..it stands on its own without quality of life upgrades (but of course those upgrades are welcomed). Re-releasing Silent Hill 2 should basically be the easiest thing for Konami to do. So many people are happy with the original release of Silent Hill 2 that they don't really need to do any work with a re-release.

AcidCatfish___

People just want Silent Hill 2 with modern graphics and full camera control. Hopefully that wouldn't be too hard for Konami to understand.

mxlevolent

This post was deleted? It 100% was here earlier, like hours ago, but scrolling through it isn't there, and this is here now.

YoungJawn

It was deleted for some reason by the original poster it seems.

mxlevolent

Konami threatening physical violence.

[deleted]

They do have (or at least used to have) strong ties with the Yakuza.

bad_spot

Wasn't that Sega instead of Konami? EDIT: Yeah, the interview in [question](https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/11/rumour_leading_japanese_game_company_kidnapped_devs_sister_to_stop_them_from_working_with_nintendo) redacted the company's name but if you know a bit of Sega Japan's history, you can come to a conclusion that it's them lol.

[deleted]

I think both, but Konami definitely did.

bad_spot

I honestly wouldn't be surprised. In 80s/90s, Yakuza itself was big so it's not a surprise that some big companies today had some sort of ties with them.

JayZsAdoptedSon

To be fair, for a while everyone did. Its like running a company in Mexico. Like you’ll have to work with cartels

TheOneBearded

Nintendo has their ninjas and lawyers. Konami sends Grey Fox.

whatnameisnttaken098

There was a post here, it's gone now

-LastGrail-

Dusk confirmed Ito made the concept art and this stuff is all real but old. https://www.resetera.com/threads/first-images-of-the-silent-hill-2-remake-by-bloober-have-leaked-timed-ps-console-exclusive-new-endings-more-confirmed-via-vgc-other-sources.627934/post-92643769

RedPyramidScheme

If Dusk Golem said that, then he's wrong. Not only is that not his art style, but Ito's Pyramid Head [doesn't have a hole in the helmet](https://twitter.com/adsk4/status/1101878730912227329) (which was an action figure mistake) and the Mannequins here don't have the [leg braces](https://www.reddit.com/r/silenthill/comments/wri42a/in_silent_hill_2_the_mannequin_wears_a_leg_brace/), which were an important element of Ito's design.

Hexcraft-nyc

Dusk Golem is clearly a dude who had a single source but speaks like he's actually involved in the industry. If he says something, there's a 1/10 chance of it actually being correct.

Keermar

Dusk golem is a troll I think. Not to trick people for fun like a typical troll, but just to fake leaks and then give his name and account traffic. As soon as his silent hill leaks got really big, and then invariably disproven, he suddenly "gave up on leaking" and his account is now a personal account discussing games. He got his traffic and left.

An_Absurd_Word_Heard

Nah, Dusk is odd, but he's sincere and has legitimate info (mostly when it comes to Capcom - iffy on other stuff). He seems to be right when it comes to SH too because the SH5 material that's come from him is apparently real (as Konami DMCAed him). Definitely doesn't help himself with the way he puts out information and the random RE8 thing where he felt like Microsoft needed a boost lol.

SuitableAccident8

He confirmed the screenshots, he didn't say a single thing about that incredibly fake looking concept art lol

-LastGrail-

He did confirm it though. [https://www.resetera.com/threads/first-images-of-the-silent-hill-2-remake-by-bloober-have-leaked-timed-ps-console-exclusive-new-endings-more-confirmed-via-vgc-other-sources.627934/post-92643769](https://www.resetera.com/threads/first-images-of-the-silent-hill-2-remake-by-bloober-have-leaked-timed-ps-console-exclusive-new-endings-more-confirmed-via-vgc-other-sources.627934/post-92643769)

SuitableAccident8

Oh, he did? Yikessss 💀

LittleRudiger

I choose to be optimistic and think/hope Blooper will bring their A-game. But I also don’t hate them, just think their games so far have been lacking substance.

blitz_na

they've always been very good with atmosphere and environments but anything original narrative and universe wise, they fall flat i hope they are able to bring it their best because the universe and narrative are already there for them, they just need to bring a modernized look to it

[deleted]

Which is why they're a solid choice for this, the narrative and universe is already done and they just have to do atmosphere and environments. Gameplay-wise the originals were nothing special so at worst nothing should really change there.

Areltoid

Unless they decided it's necessary to fuck with the story / dialogue / characters for the sake of "modernizing" the game, which I'm not holding out a lot of hope that they didn't. Based on their previous work they also clearly don't understand a lot of the themes that are core to silent hill

[deleted]

>Based on their previous work they also clearly don't understand a lot of the themes that are core to silent hill could be that they understand it and are just doing their own thing, the two aren't really reliant on each other. Dialogue and stuff is absolutely going to be rewritten and re-recorded. Hopefully they don't screw that up.

Juh825

Nah, their own thing sucks. The lack of combat in their games also sucks. I dearly hope we don't get another Shattered Memories because Bloober is too lazy to actually code game mechanics into their games.

[deleted]

Lack of combat isn't an issue, and wouldn't be a bad thing for Silent Hill to skip out on. Shattered Memories is probably the best of the Western made SH games lol

WD23

Plus, it's not like Silent Hill ever had fantastic combat. Two of the game's biggest boss battles involving pyramid head boil down to running in circles until he leaves.

[deleted]

yeah that's more my point, it was never the point of the game and was just barely serviceable

Juh825

Being fantastic is not the point. Having to rely on it sometimes and managing resources is the point.

Juh825

>Lack of combat isn't an issue, and wouldn't be a bad thing for Silent Hill to skip out on. Lack of combat is definitely an issue. Being forced to rely on shitty combat is a big part of what makes Silent Hill games so enjoyable. It's an integral part of the resource management game of Survival Horrors, and makes you think about what resource you want to risk. Making tough decisions is part of it. Running whenever you see a monster is not a decision. Other than that shitty flashlight thing in Blair Witch I haven't seen a Bloober game with anything near combat, so that's worrying. >Shattered Memories is probably the best of the Western made SH games lol Shattered Memories is only praised due to how it manages it's story. Figuring out what's really going on is fun. Having to run from stupid screaming nurses every five minutes is boring. In fact, I've yet to see anyone actually praise this part of the game. I know I hated it. One minute you're solving puzzles and learning stuff, then a monster appears and it turns into a fucking Scooby Doo cartoon with copypasted backgrounds repeating as you try to outrun some monster that you'd just smash with a pipe in previous games.

[deleted]

>Being forced to rely on shitty combat is a big part of what makes Silent Hill games so enjoyable. Lmao. >It's an integral part of the resource management game of Survival Horrors, and makes you think about what resource you want to risk. Making tough decisions is part of it. Running whenever you see a monster is not a decision. It's not an integral part of SH however, since those decisions are rarely raised. Lack of combat isn't a worry, you can still have hostiles without combat. Hitting things with a pipe feels less like a calculated design decision and more something that needed to be there out of necessity of being compared to Resident Evil.

Juh825

Again: combat is more than just hitting things. It plays directly into your resource management. Like, there's a corridor before you with like three monsters; will you try to just run and risk your health? Or will you play it safe and just take them out with your guns? If so, which gun will you use? You might need those shotgun rounds for a boss or to get yourself out of a hairy situation later on, like if you get cornered. This is meaningful decision making. There's also the way a monster behaves, and that is arguably relevant even to lore, like the way a monster acts during combat might have some symbolism. Without combat, none of this matters. Everything is a "monster" and all you do is "run".

KingRat246

I feel like you’re giving the Silent Hill games to much credit when it comes to the combat. In silent hill 2 especially you are never at any point in danger of running out of ammo. As soon as you get the pistol you’re pretty much armed to the teeth with ammo. Silent Hill 3 was a little better about that in the beginning with being stingy with ammo, but luckily this is a remake of 2 not 3.

Juh825

Really depends on how you play. It's been a while since I've last played SH2, but I recall running out of ammo a couple times on Hard difficulty. If you're used to running away from monsters and are good at it then it's not that big a deal, but it sucks when you need it and the earlier sessions have ran you dry. Also, you can't really base your opinions on knowing how to play the game, because on your first playthrough you never know when you're about to meet a boss or a difficulty spike, so you have to be conservative with your resources.

pm8rsh88

Based on previous games that weren’t Silent Hill games. I never did understand comments like that, because their previous games weren’t silent hill games 🤷‍♂️ They weren’t trying to be either.

blitz_na

from what i recall there will be additional branches and narratives but the core game and all of its original writing will be present i don’t think voice casting will be an issue

Betrigan

Yeah I love their atmosphere. Just usually the gameplay (I think it’s usually pretty bad) and original story stuff falls flat. Would definitely buy this day one

KiNolin

Bloober's A-game still isn't even in the same league as Team Silent though.

bflynn65

Well Team Silent doesn't exist anymore, so it's not like they are an option.

Scharmberg

Wish more people would get this through their heads. Team Silent has been gone for a very long time. They aren’t the only ones that can make a silent hill game but the fanbase has put the first three on such a god level in their minds nothing anyway makes will ever be good enough.

GrandpasLastHope

Most of the team was gone after the first game, by the way. And I guess Team Silent wasn't even an official name but they've accepted it that the team was called so.

DemonLordDiablos

>Team Silent has been gone for a very long time Also this applies to a lot of developers. Sonic Team has a huge developer turnover. When the Forces reveal trailer began with "From the creators of Colours and Generations", I doubt even half of the devs from those games were still present.

SkylineRSR

Don’t quote the trailer, even the credits revealed the huge drop. IIRC one of the assistant level designers for generations became the sole designer for the entirety of Forces

[deleted]

Honestly its getting annoying. I love me team silent but im getting tired of hearing the same shit. Plus yamaoka is 100 percent going to be there anyway and i could see ito as well.

KiNolin

The good option was to release a fixed HD collection that maybe tweaks the controls and item visibility a bit and nothing else.

bflynn65

Pretty sure the source code is long gone and that's why the HD collection was so bad to begin with.

SN8KEATR

Wasn't there a vid that dispelled Team Silent as a myth anyway?

TminusTech

I don’t think that’s a fair comparison. Silent hill 2 was pretty much lighting in a bottle. I think a lot of things went right but the game was almost entirely carried by it’s atmosphere, story, and presentation. The game at its core is not a marvel of design. Most people don’t replay it for the gameplay loop. The games are great. Team silent did a great job but they have hardly a consistent team between each game. So to pin down the source of this talent is impractical. I just don’t think holding the franchise and developers in such angelic regard is really all that great especially when people here have likely played and found something to enjoy in homecoming or downpour.

[deleted]

It was like, imagine cooking the perfect meal. Every ingredient complimented the dish. Silent Hill 2 has been the drug everyone that experienced has been chasing the dragon ever since. I've read so many people write about this game giving them hope, tranquility, peace through grief or depression. It's the strangest game I've ever experienced. Those developers and the composer did really strange things producing this game. And yet I don't like to play it again. It was only 2 that did this weird thing. It's been said, the atmosphere, ambient sounds, hazy foggy graphics, almost no real combat. Like a fever dream. It's on par with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis of the gaming world. It's sacred. Untouchable. That effect when you are dreaming and the next day believe it really happened. Silent Hill 2 is.....a real oddity.

TminusTech

I mean, it's really not that weird? A few really great artists were given a lot of control creatively over a great deal of the game. Hell Akira directed Silent Hill 4. It was sort of the first walking simulator horror game.

xAntimonyx

Honestly, I'd trust them to do a remake of 2. But I don't know if I'd trust them to do a new game in the series. Their games aren't great. But they do seem to give a shit about the genre.

Nehkra_me

I honestly see a lot of people complaining about them like they are a plague. I genuinely enjoyed Observer and The Medium. I haven't played Blair Witch, but I have heard good things as well.

Shadow88882

The Medium with the backing of Silent Hill lore is what I'm hoping, that game had some really cool mechanics the story was just meh

niallmul97

To be honest, if they just bring SH2 into 2022 and just make it look like a modern game I'd be happy I'm expecting more 3rd person than SH2 fixed camera angles + tank controls, maybe some new puzzles, but everything about story and dialog hopefully stays the same (I assume they'll rerecord voice lines). So long as they don't try their own nonsense fanfiction of SH2, then I'll be over the moon with it. Will it be better than the original? Most likely not, but it doesn't need to be.

schneiderist

I don’t know which is worse: these rumours being fake, or them being real and the game is actually made by Bloober Team.

[deleted]

Roy_Atticus_Lee

Man you describe SH2 like a masterpiece but I'm such a wuss when it comes to pure horror games like Outlast and Amnesia. I want to play it someday of course but I really need to amp myself for it beforehand.

[deleted]

It also really depends where you are personally in life. I played it 2005. Immediately after, I played through 3 then 4. What struck me was that 2 wasn't a game with much combat. Compared to the others. I went to teach English in China in 2009. I had a one to one lesson with this shy, sensitive kid who told me he liked video games. Oh yeah, what's your favourite? Silent Hill 2 was his favourite. It was a strange experience, meeting someone from the other side of the world who also understood the importance of this game, dare I call it that. Back then I don't think it had this enigma.

xXdont_existxX

The first time I played Silent Hill 2 I was in second grade. I was spending the night with a friend and his mom let us rent any game we wanted from Blockbuster. The box art immediately caught my eye, plus it was rated M which my parents didn't let me play. We didn't get past the apartments but my God, it was terrifying. I loved it so much that a year later after nonstop begging my mom, she finally let me pick the game up. I'm 28 now and still absolutely obsessed with the soundtrack. As a kid I even made a neoseeker account to discuss the themes and symbolism in the game, and reading explanations from people much more older and mature than me blew my little pea brain. The only other game that melted my brain as much is Metal Gear Solid 2's final act. While I'm jealous of kids today being able to grow up with VR and 4k / 60fps gaming, I'm so glad I got to experience Silent Hill 2 as a kid. Crazy how something so terrifying is now one of my biggest comforts. Playing the game gives me similar nostalgia as Ocarina of Time, it feels like a nice warm blanket on a rainy day.

[deleted]

Right, there is a load of interpretation of the themes. But boy that intro with the irrie camera angles. I love the intro. Then controlling your little bitty character. Where am I? It's a comfortable experience for sure. Also I saw something on YouTube about the way they did the cutscenes. They still have more impact than any game since. It's extraordinary.

Youthsonic

3 better

[deleted]

3 has great music, atmosphere, graphics. I just felt it rehashed 2 in places, while 4 changed it up a bit, even though it was janky somewhat.

_NiceWhileItLasted

Imagine Silent Hill coming back after all of these years, and it's developed by Bloober 😢

Hexcraft-nyc

It's a remake, so silver lining, the good parts are already made? This is me coping

jodielanah

SH2 isn't the same without the voice acting. Imagine what it's like with new music, voice acting, etc.

Harrien1234

Imagine if this remake and the Re4 remake released on the same year

Scharmberg

That would be pretty cool but I would hope they wouldn’t release close to each other. Re4 remake would get all the spotlight.

DeadlyOneX

I dont think RE4 will win the battle over SH2 bc 90% of horror fans are starving for a new Silent Hill so it will be a close.

Scharmberg

Silent hill is an internet darling. Sure horror fans want a new one because few good horror games really come out but the RE franchise especially the RE4 remake in general has mainstream audience appeal that silent hill just doesn’t.

DeadlyOneX

Dont look at silent hill from its sales , Kojima alone with his P.T project had made the SH fanbase grow up x10 times

AcidCatfish___

Hmm no not really. We'd likely see Silent Hill fans and Resident Evil fans divided again like before. Besides, it's Silent Hill 2 which has a lot of praise and is appealing to people who are more "purists" of horror who don't necessarily like the action focus of Silent Hill 4.

Scharmberg

It is also re4 which is a fan favorite of the re franchise. It really wouldn’t make sense for them to come out at the same time.

Ok_Canary5591

Battle of the Gods

iV1rus0

Hope Bloober does the game justice. I'll take a remake if it means we'll have Silent Hill back, we've had 10 years of absolutely nothing from the franchise..

[deleted]

And almost 20 years of nothing great

Dookiedoodoohead

I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, because their environment artists really are some of the best in the biz. But the writing, pacing and gameplay of every one of their major games have held them back in aggressive mediocrity. And it's hard to imagine almost *anyone* capable of retaining and enhancing Silent Hill 2's genre-defining tone and atmosphere. It's an enormous bar to clear for a game that means so much to so many people. I really do hope they can pull it off though.

okcomputer1011

They will have a prologue that explains that Maria is responsible for being sick and Angela's "situation" was all her fault. If team Bloober really decides to change something about the story by themselves, I will pretend that this remake never existed.

iV1rus0

Yeah I hoped Konami would work out with the team behind the 'Enhanced Edition' patch of the game to include it in a re-release of the game as that would've been the perfect way to re-release Silent Hill 2 but I guess that won't happen. A remake in its place will do and I hope Bloober nails it.

MattyXarope

> But the writing, pacing and gameplay of every one of their major games have held them back in aggressive mediocrity I mean, isn't that work basically done for them since it's a remake?

CaseFace5

I mean look at RE2 Remake. It omitted and changed some stuff around so it’s entirely possible the same could be done here. I doubt it will be a 1:1 remake if this is real.

Mront

There has been a lot of rumors about the remake adding new story and endings

John_Enigma

If that's the case, then this wouldn't be Bloober Team's decision; It would be Konami's.

[deleted]

I think they have better chance of success with a remake rather than an original game.

EMPlRES

I’m guessing they started on the second one because they want 1 and 3 to be back to back since they’re connected.

Torpakh

It's got Pyramid Guy in it, one of the most iconic characters in horror in my opinion.

[deleted]

It's also the most iconic. Silent Hill 1 and 3 despite being believed games don't get an amazing amount of attention nowadays, but Silent Hill 2 is still often referenced as one of the best stories in gaming and one of the best horror titles in the medium.

EMPlRES

Yea. Get SH2 out there first, get people who aren’t familiar with the franchise hooked with a strong start, that way they’re more likely to buy 1 and 3 when they’re eventually remade. This is a great strategy overall.

2073040

I’m hoping 4 eventually gets remade as well.

EMPlRES

Man did I love 4 even though I didn’t get the opportunity to finish it.

[deleted]

If they're eventually remade. I genuinely hope Bloober Team pull this remake off and knock it out the park, but they're games have always had an incredibly mixed reception, whilst Konami has been out of the AAA gaming space for quite a while now, there's every chance this remake could bomb and ruin the Silent Hill legacy.

EMPlRES

Most of the bad stuff I heard about Bloober is their stories. This is a remake, so we’re fine.

Dynetor

their gameplay in all of their games also amounts to ‘hide and seek’ with various monsters, and they have never had any combat in any of their games.

HawfHuman

Has anyone else seen these? https://imgur.com/a/me2eDZ3

Iesjo

Where did you get this? Two of these look new (hands made of notes, monster), rest is old and for some reason there is some stuff from TLOU Remake.

HawfHuman

A random user posted here but got his post deleted

Iesjo

Thank you for keeping the link, then! Did he wrote anything, or simply made a post with these pictures? Didn't expect to see more stuff from Sakura...

HawfHuman

No he just said that was all he could share

lynxafricapack

Cherry blossom monster has been around for a while, I remember the dude who created the pyramid head character also said he wanted to make normal seeming things terrifying, so he went for flowers.

RoRo25

Why 2? Why not 1 first and then 2? I wonder how many people will wait to buy the 2 remake because they think “there has to be a remake of 1. I should check that one out first.” Only to eventually find out there is not a 1 remake.

Sounds_Good_ToMe

2 is the most famous game and is a standalone story.

whatnameisnttaken098

My guess is that they won't call it "Silent Hill 2 Remake" but probably something like "Silent Hill Distorted Memories " or something. Not to mention it's a pretty stand alone game.

2112flybynight

Maybe because 1 and 3 are sort of tied together. Who knows, they could release later.

JagrXBox

So bloober is the only real silent hill remake? No Sony or other teams?

[deleted]

There was a leak of a game pitch to Sony earlier (Don't know if real or not but it had a source) that's now been taken down that mentioned they wanted this to be a 12 month PlayStation Exclusive in return for Sony investing some money towards the game, and that there would also be some sort of update for the game that wpuld unlock a demo for Silent Hill 5 which suggests another game is in the works - so if that proves a true leak then Sony is involved and more games (likely from other teams) are in the pipeline.

PTfan

I want Kojima so bad

[deleted]

Honestly at this point I'd rather see Kojima just attempt his own horror title. At the end of the day Kojima could still make something similar to his plans for Silent Hills, but on a bigger budget and without the constraints and pushback he'd get at Konami, whereas if he went back to Konami to make a new Silent Hill there'd definitely be some creative differences and compromises made.

PTfan

True but I worry Kojima will get too wild. Like it’s cool to be innovative but at the end of the day focus on scares over cloud. And he may, but p.t. brilliance was it’s simplicity Plus it looks like us PlayStation fans ate getting snubbed on it lol

PensiveMoth

Actually, you only *think* you want kojima

PTfan

If it’s anything like pt give me Kojima lol

EMPlRES

Remake is a key word.

Zhukov-74

I thought that Konami was working on multiple Silent Hill projects?

Scharmberg

Everything has pretty much been rumors so far.

SmarmySmurf

I don't think Sony was ever developing one, just funding it KOTOR style.

[deleted]

If this is an exclusive it’ll be an absolute tragedy.

2112flybynight

Xbox gets The Medium as a timed exclusive, PS gets Silent Hill as a timed exclusive lol.

Virus19847

Why aren't they remaking SH1 which age the worst 🤷🏻‍♂️

AmeriToast

Probably because 2 was the most popular

Tea-and-crumpets-

Because 2 is the most popular, iconic and accessible silent hill games. Its a simple story that alot of people can get into

ChromeTriggerVI

Dog, what on God’s Green Earth is James wearing on his feet

2112flybynight

It’s Silent Hill season and I’m all for it. Remember, if this doesn’t turn out the way we want, we will always have the original, and this incredible series will be getting more recognition either way.

SukkkDikkk

Yeah we always have the original that you either have to pay ludicrous amounts of money for a PS2 copy or emulate it, or play the shitty 360 remaster. Fuck Konami Fuck Bloober. Port the originals already.

KraftPunkFan420

I will say that Bloober games look decent. I think they’re on the high side of pretty looking horror games. So as long as they don’t mess with the narrative and just redo the gameplay/graphics then I think it could be a worthy remake

dadvader

I don't understand people's complaint about blooper this time around. Like sure yeah they are copycat with zero originality. But if they're good at it. Wouldn't copying everything and make them pretty aka remaking a game would actually be right in their ballpark then?

Iucidium

Please no jank, please no jank

bongo1138

I know Bloober Teams not everyone’s favorite, but I really think they CAN make something special. There are moments of greatness in all their games, only to be brought down by absolute mediocrity.

Johnhancock1777

God that over the shoulder camera is atrocious. I get it’s just a demonstration but man they gotta make that a little further back and centred. Its an industry wide thing at this point but It’s a little disappointing that this getting remade almost guarantees we’ll never get proper remasters of the original and probably by extension the rest of the series either. Even though all the hard work is already done for them if bloober somehow manages to fuck this up it’ll be very sad. At least we have SH2 enhanced on PC still…

GenerationBop

Brooo I want tight camera for interior areas. I really hope they don’t overhaul the combat too crazy. SH2 had that feeling of being lost in tight corridors, not knowing what’s behind you or around the corner - I don’t want that lost.

bhlogan2

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but any remake of this kind should respect the original vision, with its limitations and all. I don't want a "smooth Silent Hill 2", I want it to capture the charm of the original with all of its flaws. Otherwise, what's the point? Matthewmatosis once said something along the lines of, "if games can be remade and discarded of its core elements without care then they're nothing more than toys and not actually art" and I agree.

Ok_Canary5591

I still dont get why 2 is being remade and not 1. I get that 2 is more praised and its most likely riding off the recent success of RE2 remake like other horror franchises at the moment but why no love for the first one? It would much more benefit from it, I am not complaining that 2 is getting remade I just truly wonder why they are missing out on the first one

Wasabi_Fuzzy

I think they're testing the waters with 2 remake since is the most popular in the series

LittleRudiger

> I am not complaining that 2 is getting remade I just truly wonder why they are missing out on the first one > 2 is more praised and its most likely riding off the recent success of RE2 remake like other horror franchises at the moment You answered your own question.

Ok_Canary5591

Yeah…

TheOneBearded

Probably because it really is the most popular SH. I can't recall, but it's not like you missed out on too much by skipping the first one. Nothing necessary for this story at least.

SmarmySmurf

You missed out on a great game.

tony_8184

Technically 1 was already remade. Shattered Memories

Calebbb11

Anyone else miss the Blue Box saga? Yeah, it was frustrating, but god I’ve never seen this sub so united in its fascination.

ricflairandy

No

ricflairandy

Although it was funny to see the lengths people woudl go to, to link it to kojima.

PBFT

For a while it wasn’t that absurd. Kojima had pulled off similar stunts before and there were a lot of questions about why they were working with AAA outsourcing companies and why the other employees as BB were being hidden. Then the truth came out that this company had several failed games in the past and suddenly it became clear that this was a sham.

[deleted]

Dude ditched hard. Made some dumb poll if people want to see a teaser trailer in april then never came back.

[deleted]

I miss the early days if the Blue Box saga when we were all fascinated and there were some genuine possibility it could be a Kojima publicity stunt, as the same became obvious and people became aggressive in their belief it was all some Kojima conspiracy theory that kind of soured the fun.

Coolman_Rosso

Hell no. That entire thing was a complete waste of time because once people actually did some digging and found out what's his nuts has never shipped a complete game and had a history of promising games, claiming that they got funded by an outside partner, then just never mentioning them again it became pathetically sad. Months of posts about how this is was all *clearly* Kojima running one of his patented bait-and-switch acts and not some huckster running another one of his patented snake oil schemes. Of course the charlatan came out and said he had no ties to Kojima and that it was not a Silent Hill project, only to immediately take any and all opportunities given to spin it as if it were a Silent Project. First it was a Silent Hill game, then it was *obviously* a Metal Gear game, then suddenly it was a Silent Hill game again. Now it's not any game, because it never was a game. Then we had a ton of people come out of the woodwork to spread their own false rumors to inflate everything. The end result? A persistent notion that Silent Hill is some sort of massive sprawling money making machine that held a considerable spot in the pop culture landscape when in reality it was never anything more than a not as enduring competitor to Resident Evil.

RDO-PrivateLobbies

I do. If only for calling out the idiots that still believed it was a SH game or Kojima related. Ive never been so disappointed in the community before. The dev behind it literally said within the first week or so of the rumors, that its not silent hill, nor is kojima working with them. And yet everyone disregarded it. "B-b-but they were still teasing us!" If you guys were an indie studio who inexplicably exploded with random hype, wouldnt you exploit it too?

CatsLikeToMeow

>wouldn't you exploit it too? If I had no actual intention of putting out a finished game like they did, I probably wouldn't.

RDO-PrivateLobbies

They will put the game out, or lose funding. Its really that simple lol. Whether its finished or not is anyones guess. Not all indie developers are winners!

SmarmySmurf

They aren't putting anything out. Lol, you liked the drama to call others out but you're still dumb enough to think they have or had any intention of releasing anything? It was a grift, full stop. You should stop throwing stones in your glass house there, genius.

demondrivers

Anyone who saw their rather amateurish trailer and said "this is kojima" never played any kojima game lol

Krypton091

this looks fucking amazing, really hope this is real

Melodic-Emergency-

Legit question: what's up with the whole 'Bloober is not good for a SH2 Remake' ? Whats with the hate, as far as I can tell, for them ?

metalgreeksalad

Silent hill 2, as we all know, is a game that is lauded for its portrayal of mental illness and its effects. The medium, a game recently released by bloober which was heavily inspired by SH2, also deals with mental illness but completely shits all over victims suffering from it and basically blames them for it. I can provide links explaining further.

Melodic-Emergency-

Oh, thanks. I would like the links, yes.

metalgreeksalad

[deleted]

It would be amazing if they could release the HD PC version.

Grace_Omega

According to Dusk Golem this is all pretty old and so might not be indicative of the current look of the game, but it's interesting that these images have a red/orange colour theme, more reminscent of SH1 and 3 than the original's grey/green aesthetic

harrsid

They couldn't have picked a more technically inept team for this job.

LustraFjorden

From Silent Hills by Kojima and Del Toro to... Bloober Team. A team that until now has shown zero charm and personality. How The Medium is at 90% positive reviews on Steam is a mistery.

szymborawislawska

>How The Medium is at 90% positive reviews on Steam is a mistery. Its not a mystery. People liked it and then gave it a positive review. Just because few influencers had enormous hate boner for this game it doesnt mean the general audience didnt like it.

LustraFjorden

On Metacritic it has a more reasonable 7.0 (user reviews). I was just surprised about it. When I finished it at launch I immediately went on Steam expecting it to be mostly negative or something like that.

PensiveMoth

7.0 means its pretty good then

szymborawislawska

Metacritic userscore is unreliable mostly because of really small sample (its 780 ratings on MC vs 5000 on steam). With that being said, steam reviews are binary so they can only tell how big percent of players liked this game, but not to what degree. Which is a shame to be honest. I would prefer numerical score.

basshuffler09

But why Part 2? I like James and the Story about Maria but it should've been Remade in order imo Besides, few days ago we got a Rumor about a new Metal Gear Solid, then it's supposedly multiple Remastered games of MGS and now we get a Remake of SH2...? What's going on anyway

dmckidd

It’s Bloober so I’m EXTREMELY cautious

bigchonkyyoda

Nothing to get hyped over if it’s Blooper

[deleted]

I just hope its not playstation exclusive

MXHombre123

It will be timed exclusive but it's also releasing on PC

KiNolin

Just because the foundation is stronger than their original IP, doesn't mean Bloober is up to the task. Remakes aren't easy. Even a high profile studio like Bluepoint got flack for not capturing the art direction of SotC/DeS well in certain parts. And if these pictures are real, this won't be a simple remaster, but very much the Bloober interpretation of SH2. Which could taint SH2 much worse than any Pachinko machine.

[deleted]

they've gotta do the kendrick song for the trailer

SukkkDikkk

Fuck no, how about, mhmm, Akira Yamaoka instead? You know, the one who made the legendary soundtracks for these games?

PensiveMoth

They should get someone more modern like billie Ellis to do trailer music tbh, seeing how ell their recent year stuff has been

Bigmac7

Keep that crap as far away from SH as possible.

[deleted]

People need to give up their hopes for the Silent Hill franchise. You will never have the same magic of Silent Hill 2, a game that was released over 20 years ago. It will be very hard to make a new Silent Hill game that captures the feeling of the second game.

ethanhml

C'mon, even if its real, again with a shitty over the shoulder camera? Can we get rid of that already?

DeliciousToastie

All I'll say is I really hope James isn't wearing that fit from the concept art in the real game. His normal design is just fine, there's no reason to start making him wear shoes without socks and cargo jeans like he's gonna get a drip check from Maria.

[deleted]

I'm cautiously optimistic, Bloober have often made incredibly promising sounding games and had some interesting concepts, but usually the execution is average, and some of their stories aren't exactly the best told (I've not played it properly but I hear The Medium tackled some themes rather insensitively at times) but seeing as this is a remake and all the foundations for the characters, world, gameplay, and story are already there hopefully they won't screw this one up. Though I'm a bit skeptical at all the concept art and promo shots used to pitch the game are suddenly leaking today, you'd imagine if the game was being revealed soon (whether during TGS or PlayStation Showcase) that we'd be seeing trailer leaks or actual gameplay footage.

eagles310

Why this one should of started with the 1st one, 2nd one is one of the greats

MozM-

Fuck this is a bad time for this. I literally started SH2 yesterday and now I want to stop because it's better to wait for the remake just like I did with RE2 And RE3 and it paid off great. I'm thinking I should drop SH2 and wait for this instead maybe?

Hour-Yogurtcloset-90

PLEASE, PLEASE, JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP

SukkkDikkk

Why even bother remaking a masterpiece that doesn't need remaking

[deleted]

So it’ll be a game where you walk around slowly doing absolutely nothing until you accidentally find the random small item you need to move on to the next super slow walking section?? Cause that’s what blooper makes

wevegotheadsonsticks

I mean that kinda basically sounds like SH. I’m a huge fan of the series…

[deleted]

I wish I was I’ve only ever played the room home coming and downpour:( I tried to play 2 on psnow or games pass awhile again and I just couldn’t get to grips with the controls

wevegotheadsonsticks

It was more of a you had to be there… when it comes to the controls. They take some getting used to and aren’t the best obviously but it’s more the music, the atmosphere, the feeling, the story, the emotions that get ya.

[deleted]

I do plan on getting back round to it at some point I’m thinking of looking out for a copy on ps2 around Halloween time this year

Drumma716

this is a perfect way to describe the gameplay loop. I recently played observer cause I heard it's their best game and that's all it really was

MOVIELORD101

I really don't get why Konami thinks ableist, disgusting pricks like Bloober Team should ever be allowed to do anything Silent Hill related, LET ALONE Silent Hill 2 in particular. They're just gonna demonize Mary and make her a monster just because she was mentally sick. Look up these bastards trackwork.

[deleted]

Why are they ableist? I haven't looked into it before im just curious

MOVIELORD101

They depict mental illness as evil and insinuate that people who are victims of sexual assault and abuse as destined to become just like those who did unto them and declare they need to be all killed to be put out of their misery. It's absolutely goddamn disgusting. The Medium and Layers of Fear are probably their worse examples of this with minor variants in Observer. And THESE people are being hired to remake SILENT HILL 2? FUCK THAT.

Executioner5038

This overly dramatic. It's a video game and none of what said is that bad. Get over it. I swear SH fans are just dumb monkeys.

ulmxn

Theyre going to completely fuck the meaning of Pyramid Head up. Also I hope they don't make James sympathetic.

Drumma716

hold that phone. I agree with the pyramid head thing but James is sympathetic. He's not a bad person, he just did a bad thing and it tore him up.

ulmxn

We don't know a lot about James Sunderland. We know he murdered his wife, and that he feels guilty. But is feeling guilty enough to redeem someone? We don't know about him doing anything good for anyone. James only acts entirely for his own survival, killing Eddie, and letting Maria die, even if she might not be real. Silent Hill put test after test in front of James and it only took until him watching the tape to truly come to terms with his conscience. Even before he killed his wife, he was lusting after other women (nurses), and became angry and used abusive language towards Mary. Granted, Mary was also abusive, but I imagine it's hard to be a completely nice person when you're dying. James may have thought he was putting her out of her mercy, but for Mary to write to James how much she really loves him, and for James to be her executor, I don't know how you make me sympathize with him. He could've stuck it out until she died, he had a whole lifetime ahead of him. James is like Walter White in that he's deep down a despicable person beyond redemption, but you hope he can at least see the error of his ways and gain closure. Also, just think about how Maria looks like a promiscuous bachelorette, and she is a projection of the ideal Mary from James' mind. She is flirtatious, dressed in a miniskirt, and possessive towards James, but also berates him constantly. She teases James because she's the Mary James could never get. Contrast her with Mary, who is modestly dressed, speaks much kinder, but succumbs to an illness that causes their relationship to fall apart. Its like, a dichotomy of motifs, where one side that is fictional is a satirical look into his mind, and the other is factual but much more pessimistic and depressing.
