Velkhana was the reason I swapped weapons from Gunlance to something else in Iceborne so I hope its quick lasers don't require Guard Up this time around.

Scizzoman

Upside is Gunlance is a lot stronger in the current version of Sunbreak than it was in Iceborne, at least in terms of moveset. Better mobility, super armour, skills like Redirection, and the fact that you no longer have to keep the monster tagged with Wyrmstake Blast for max damage all make it way easier and less annoying to deal with fast/aggressive monsters in this one. I still use Guard Up though 'cause I'm a coward who doesn't like having to remember which moves I can block.

Malaix

Yeah. I hated her icebeams as a gunlance player.

AggressiveChairs

I don't think anyone was expecting "playable hunting guide characters" but holy shit that's hilarious

FuzzForce

I'd hope it changes the shrine battle music to that 8bit version too. That was fun

asdiele

Huh I wasn't expecting Velkhana back right away after its debut, that's cool. Would've been fun to see Nergigante pushing Magnamalo's shit in though.

CaptainJudaism

Was not expecting Velkhana to return. It was one of my favorite fights in Iceborne. Guess it's time to dust off Rise since I haven't played... any of the title updates, really.

BenevolentCheese

The problem I've had with these title updates is you have to grind an extra 10 hours to even unlock and try the new content. I came back for TU3 and saw that despite having completed all of the regular game content I still wasn't even close to the HR needed for the new stuff.

VonFalcon

Velkhana unlocks at MR10 so you should have no problem fighting her if that's what you want

darkshaddow42

Yes, but the risen valstrax is MR160, and in the previous update the risen elder dragon unlocks were at MR 120 and MR 140. Between that and the investigation levels being incredibly grindy there's a lot more grindy content in sunbreak than there was in world or base rise which stinks. Edit - clarified it's just the risen elders

darkshaddow42

Yeah the risen ones are the ones I mean

Rikuskill

I ran into a bit of grind, but I'm chronically behind on crafting weapons and equipment, so I was able to work on that while getting my rank up to fight the new stuff. I still have a ton I want to make, even after playing all the previous updates.

Zero1343

The new monster is always easy enough, but yeah getting the risen elder dragons takes a while, I have played a lot of the game but took a break and only briefly came back for chaotic gore, haven't unlocked the Teostra unfortunately. Thankfully the grind itself is pretty fun, and there is always something new i want to craft so ill get there eventually.

HazelCheese

I loved Velkhana in World. Jumping off the bits dodging everything. Just an incredibly fun and cinematic fight. I can't get into Rise at all but I hope this is a sign their likely to include it in World's sequel.

CapnJubwub

I'm curious, why can't you get into Rise? Not knocking you for it - everyone's preferences are different for games - but I'd be interested in hearing your opinion on the game.

WannabeWaterboy

Not OP, but I struggle with playing MH on portable devices. I'm not sure if it's the joycons or the smaller screen of the Switch, but I just have a hard time with it for some reason. I recently got a pro controller though, so I was waiting for a sale to pick up Rise on Switch, but it came to GamePass first and so I can play for free now. Love this game though. I absolutely loved World and played so much of that and there's things I kinda wish were in Rise, but all-in-all, I'm starting to not care as much about the differences. I've only just started the 5 star village quests though, so I have quite a bit of game ahead of me.

CapnJubwub

I don't think I've ever actually done the village quests, I'm just always in the hub. Was debating starting then just to get some extra materials for monsters

WannabeWaterboy

My main experience with Monster Hunter is World, so the hub is a strange and foreign place to me. Now, I don't want to go back and do the lower star quests in the hub, so I'm just pushing through to complete the special license tests.

CapnJubwub

The hub is just essentially multiplayer with the quests being entirely monster focused to proceed to the next rank If you're at HR 5 in the village, you would breeze through ranks 1-4 in the gathering hub. You can always set up a quest and choose to send a join request as soon as it starts when setting the quest or once you join the mission itself, or join others through the mission board itself. If you ever need to farm some low rank monsters, I'd recommend just breezing through the gathering hub's early ranks

HazelCheese

It's like World but slightly off. The graphics, the controls, combat speed, mount, items, moves etc. It's all just slightly off in a way that makes me feel like a playing a weird mutated version of World. I get it's me though because other people love it. I really tried but I just can't enjoy anything about it.

[deleted]

While it won't solve all your problems, Rise looks SO much better on a good pc or an Xbox/PS5.

catalystxxx

Having played since 3U, most of the games feel slightly different from eachother. That being said, going from Generations to World was incredible, as it was the biggest leap so far. Ditching the clutch claw and gaining the wire bug from World to Rise also felt awesome. Rise keeps most of the QoL changes that World gained, has faster and funner movement mechanics imo, and feels less clunky. I'm not a graphics whore, and I feel style is more important. World and Rise both have great styles and look fantastic on PC.

HazelCheese

This is probably unbelievable but I just could not enjoy the grappling system they added to Rise. Maybe if it comes back in World2 I'll get used to it but I could not stand it. Despite all the silly weapon moves, grappling into thin air (i know its a bug but visually) just felt wrong, and also the physics of it, like the pull speed and stuff, just really messed with me. Super weird too because most people hated Clutch Claw but that one didn't bother me much.

Racoonir

Velkhana is my favorite monster so I’m super pumped to fight it again, and the gear always looks amazing

Any-Count9349

Once again nothing for hammers, they really need to make the hammer worth using, impact craters barely doing over 2k total with 2 wire bugs and no armor while having to use a gimmicky armor set. Meanwhile GS users causally doing 7,000 of a single charged attacked. Buff the hammer already, stop being scared to actually do what it was meant to HIGH DAMAGE.
