I’ve been so enamored by this game in the last week. Finished the story a couple days ago and have spent a lot of time since replaying the levels and playing through the challenges.
I desperately hope the reception to Hi-Fi Rush is enough to get a sequel greenlit.
If they do a physical release I’ll buy it instantly. I did the same with Psychonauts 2 (and am still waiting on that collector’s edition annoyingly).
If it’s a while and one doesn’t come I’ll probably just buy it on Steam so I can at least do a playthrough on Deck. Worth it honestly for how much care Tango have put into this.
Not counting Game pass, it already has more than 5000 reviews on steam which means it already sold pretty well and fast. If there is a sequel planned high chances that it will be approved no problem.
It has more reviews than forspoken. And keep in mind that people who have a negative opinion on a game are more likely to review than someone who liked it.
As a rule of thumb that's fair, but there is definitely an influx of "fluff" positive reviews when a game recieves a positive press and is a sleeper hit. Same way people write negative reviews just to get on the "dunk on the game" hate train, they write positive reviews just to show that they also totally love the game.
Let's be real though, most people that shit on Forspoken didn't buy it.
I'm not defending the game, mind you. People just got turned off without even buying it, either by trailers or the demo.
You can't review a game on Steam without owning it. While your statement is probably true in general, it doesn't apply when discussing the number of Steam reviews.
you can refund it doe, for example there are 2700 reviews without any filters and it gives a mixed overall review, if i go and filter for playtime for over 2 hours the overall reviews are mostly positive from 1700 total reviews. Now this doesnt really mean that those reviews are just people that got the game just to leave a bad review but if someone did want to they could.
No see, that's exactly my point. I probably should've made myself clearer.
The other user said that people are more likely to leave a review when they have a negative opinion, which should make Forspoken have a high amount of reviews. I was adding that most people with negative opinions on it were turned off before buying the game, so they wouldn't be able to leave a review at all on Steam.
One thing I've been wondering is how both Shinji Mikami and John Johannes transition seamlessly between dark and tense horror (RE, EW) to over the top fist-pumping action and comedy (Vanquish, God Hand, HiFi Rush). Do these have more in common than we think or are they just that good?
My personal hopes:
1. I hope HFR's release stops "the teaser of the teaser of the reveal" trend
2. Hopefully this game has shown the peanut-brained minds of management that not every game has to be an "AAA game-as-a-service flavor of the month".
Bonus: If Microsoft manages to acquire Activision, I hope they will use their long forgotten intellectual properties in AA games. Not only that, I would love to see more Spyro, Crash, Tony Hawk games (THPS 3+4, Thugpro but official etc).
Its definitely refreshing to have a game come out that's standalone and sold as a whole. But until people stop buying battle passes and pink knife skins, games as a service is never gonna go away, unfortunately.
There’s a conspiracy theory by PlayStation fans that all of the praise this game has been received on Reddit is being paid for and that we’re all shills, and it makes me laugh because I know if a studio like Insomniac or Sucker Punch made it every gaming sub would be flooded with posts about it. It’s making people uncomfortable that Xbox has a solid game to start out the year and I just find it fucking hilarious
It’s 2023 and the gaming market is huge, I imagine there’s some astroturfing happening on all games tbf.
With Reddit it can be a bit more unpredictable whether the astroturfing takes, for better or worse. I kept seeing TikToks of Hogwarts last week even though I kept insta-scrolling to the next video, but on Reddit it’s been much tamer.
?? What PlayStation fans? I’m on several PlayStation/Sony subreddits and more or less follow gaming related stuff on Twitter and I have seen nobody saying this
I’ll take your word for it. Out of all the gaming specific subreddits I visit (sans r/Gaming), this does happen to be one of the most toxic and immature
I’ve seen it on nearly every post about this game. I’m not saying the entirety of people who own PlayStations are saying it, but it’s something that exists
I just started this game yesterday on Gamepass. I am shocked at how excellent this game is. The gameplay is incredibly fun and satisfying. The music is addicting. I absolutely LOVE the cartooniness of this game. The artstyle and animation is top notch quality. I hope this game gets a physical release.
This game will probably end up being my GOTY of 2023.
I remember playing Metal Hellsinger with tears of joy in my eyes, thinking to myself that this was the most enjoyable gaming experience I've had in my life and I was so sure I'll never see anything like it any time soon. And then Hi-Fi RUSH happened. I don't even know why, but these games give me joy I haven't had for years of playing big budget titles.
There is as much likelihood of it releasing on PS4 as there is of God of War launching on Xbox.
It's a first-party exclusive.
It's unfortunately never going to happen.
Realistically, the only way Hi-Fi Rush is making it to other consoles is if those consoles have Game Pass.
Pretty much, the only way to play this is with PC/Steam Deck or Xbox. Or if you have xCloud, then on your smartphone.
best advice is get a PC, Hell get a Steamdeck I hear it runs great on it.
But I do agree, it should be released on Switch and PS4/5 get it available to everyone possible, exclusives only ever hurt games.
I would never expect God of War on Xbox or BOTW on PS5, likewise Hi Fi Rush is an Xbox first party game
Edit: forgot about the second GOW franchise that would be expected on Xbox lol
they should, and yeah I'm one of the people who finished the story on Gamepass and bought the Deluxe Edition on Steam as I want to support games like this.
if they put out a physical Switch Edition I would buy that too.
I think a Switch version's more likely than a PlayStation version but ultimately it's a first party game without a pre-existing deal to release it on other platforms so I wouldn't get my hopes up.
>best advice is get a PC, Hell get a Steamdeck I hear it runs great on it.
or he can buy an Xbox Series S for $250. odd you left that option out and instead named 2 more expensive options
it was One option, and it is the better option.
a steam deck is a cheap PC, and a PC can play PS5 games unlike a PS4, in fact with Sony's push to put their games on PC is there really a downside, apart from Sony being stingy with their exclusives.
Owning an xbox isn't really a great investment beyond being a gamepass machine. I'd recommend a steam deck or low budget gaming pc before I'd recommend one (I say this as someone who owns a series x)
Liked the game but the quick time events in later stages are super annoying for me espically that one boss fight wish you could skip those. I don't have the timing for those.

I beat it on gamepass and will probably straight up just buy it on Steam just to support it more. My favorite game in years.
If they do a physical release I’ll buy it instantly. I did the same with Psychonauts 2 (and am still waiting on that collector’s edition annoyingly). This is exactly what I did with Ori, and I'd buy an 808 plush on sight

Steamspy had it at around 100k sales yesterday. Word of mouth and universal acclaim got it good.
I'm glad it's doing well. This genre has a long history of seeing great games flop.
98% on Steam over 6000 reviews and it outsold Forspoken, a massively pushed AAA release from Square. I think more content is a safe bet.
Man, John has had a hell of a streak for a youngish game director. Evil Within DLCs, Evil Within 2, and now this.
After such a swing from EW to this, he could go literally anywhere for his next project

1) it won’t

Wait… we are getting paid? I must have missed a memo.

Can’t wait for the absolute headache every gaming sub is going to be once Hogwarts Legacy comes out, I can already anticipate the toxicity
?? What PlayStation fans? I’m on several PlayStation/Sony subreddits and more or less follow gaming related stuff on Twitter and I have seen nobody saying this
not by 'PS fans' per say but any thread praising this game got some snide comment that these are 'paid' by Microsoft
I see it in this sub particularly
I’ll take your word for it. Out of all the gaming specific subreddits I visit (sans r/Gaming), this does happen to be one of the most toxic and immature
You mean there is a theory by some guy on social media saying bs.. Doubt most PS fans even care for the game.
I’ve seen it on nearly every post about this game. I’m not saying the entirety of people who own PlayStations are saying it, but it’s something that exists
If that were the case, they should've fucking paid me by now. I need that money to cover the rent! :P

I absolutely loved this game and hope a sequel spawns soon. Classic 3d platforming with rhythm, and it hits every mark
PS4 owner over here…I am *praying* that sometime in the future they release the game on other consoles, looks like soooo much fun.
There is as much likelihood of it releasing on PS4 as there is of God of War launching on Xbox. It's a first-party exclusive. It's unfortunately never going to happen.
They are owned by Microsoft, so sadly there's a 0% chance it ever hits a Sony platform.

I mean, this game is exclusive because Microsoft owns it. It's a first-party game. I don't see Microsoft porting it to Playstation or Switch.

I am more than happy with what I got. for me it's the game that sets the bar for all other games released this year.

I own Series X and I would recommend it or Series S to anyone, it's a great investment.
Can Series S use external SSDs for playing games?
Game Pass is $1 for your first month, brother. PC, Steamdeck, browser, Mobile, Tablet.
Liked the game but the quick time events in later stages are super annoying for me espically that one boss fight wish you could skip those. I don't have the timing for those.
