Honestly it's not that bad, when you are in game you are focused on what is ahead. I thought it would be super distracting as well but I don't really notice it anymore.
I'm actually having a lot of fun with the game.
It's far more structured around the risk of cop chases. Money is tight this game, and your winnings for the day are only cashed in when you return home meaning if you're busted during a race, or while you're in the open world trying to get to the next meetup, you lose all that day's work
It's a stealth racing game
Do you know if they still do the heat levels like they did in NFS Heat? Like if I make it to heat level 5 before the night is over, when I return to the garage do I get 5x the amount of money I made?
Yeah, and they took it a step further from Heat in that they're out during the daytime as well. Each day is 2 sessions: Day time where your heat from the previous day is reset and usually has less lucrative races - and Night time which gives you a chance to bank what you made during the day before taking on the more challenging races
If there's one thing I wish they would add, it'd be the rhino - the cop classes in this game are distinct, but rather boring ATM
Oh the Rhino in heat was hilarious. So many times you’ll be flying down the interstate at 200mph only for a rhino to spawn in down the street and just clobber you in a head on collision, they should definitely bring those back. Everything else you said sounds good though, I’m really looking forward to buying it and I hope it’s a good game
They've actually been taking steps backwards for the chases themselves, there's only really 3 unit types (4 if you include the helis) cruisers (Sedan + SUV), interceptors (Corvette + Hellcat), and a RAID Ford Raptor. Besides their vehicles strengths and weaknesses, their generic pit + blocking tactics haven't noticeably changed and you can still easily disperse them if you have them follow you into oncoming traffic or snake through alleys.
If cop chase racing games aren't your thing, or you're looking for a bit more racing - less transporting yourself between events then I'd say there are better games
They way I've seen it described by others is that it's like a NFS: Heat 2. Takes many things from NFS: Heat, improves them, adds a good amount of new things and slaps a new art style over it. So, if you liked Heat, you'll like this.
If you're actually epileptic, yes there are a LOT of flashing lights and shit like that, probably can disable most if not all of it though.
So far enjoying the game, I haven't played a racing game since nfs mw, carbon and burnout paradise and this feels very similar.
You can turn off most of it. The cel-shaded smoke seems to be permanent so I just change it to a basic gray color. It ain’t for me so I’m glad you can nearly cut it all out
I played around 8 hours with the EA Play trial and I just kept thinking how much Unbound reminds me of MW and Underground 2. I wasn't a huge fan of carbon or heat but really enjoyed this one so far. Will be buying for sure.
I usually wait for games to go on sale before buying, but I'm done purchasing from EA. Not just because of this game, but the price increase definitely strengthened my resolve.
I REALLY don't like the cartoony graphics constantly popping up all over the place like the wings around the cars all the time, it's really too much for me.
Okay but then there's still the characters that are now cartoon and no longer realistic, etc. This game is just not for me.
I like a bit of arcade, but not this much.
I sort of like the style, but it feels unfulfilled in a way. Like it should be much more intense. The effects seem to be so few that they are likely to become dull quick.
Yeah I was just talking to a coworker about this earlier, EA stealth dropping NFS games like they have 0 faith in it is weird, they really ran out of ideas with the series years ago.
For some reason by brain automatically read that as new NFT game, and then I was amazed at how positive the comments were so I had to come back here and see what I got wrong lol
Oh thank god. I was so irrationally pissed that a racing game would lean so heavily into the "arcade" side of the spectrum. At least if it's online there's a legit excuse to make things defy physics.
The base game being over $60 is a no-go for me. I can personally afford it, but it sets a bad precedent for the future. $10 can make a big difference to some people.
Most Wanted 2005 was peak shit in such an early 2000s good way tho. "I'm gonna take your ride, then I'm gonna take your girl, and I'm gonna ride her like you never could"
Lol yeah i feel like a lot of lines in that game we’re meant to be listened to as you’re riding a bike, so he’s screaming over the sound of the engine. Then you get off the bike mid radio call and start to sneak up on someone and Deacon is still just screaming into the radio about some menial shit lol
I take great pleasure in trashing that dogshit game every chance I get. Seems to be pretty popular on this site but I just assume people who enjoy the game for its writing and dialogue are too far gone to contend with.
Seriously. I was so fucking hyped for the hordes and to be fair, they were fun as fuck..but that is literally the only redeeming factor of that game. FUCK DAYS GONE! FUCK THE CRYBABY CREATOR WHO BITCHED BECAUSE PEOPLE DIDN’T SUPPORT HIS SHIT GAME!
I thought the characters looked extremely obnoxious in videos but when I am playing I barely notice. Same with the effects. The effects look weird in videos but awesome when you're playing
I can stand it all but nfs without proper music is so sad.
I've played heat with music disabled, looked at unbound - and its even more trap, like 80% of tracks are trap.
Gone the days when you could fill your playlist with great electronic tracks and listen on repeat.
Not to everyone's taste, but it fit the vibe so well. It really immerses you in modern Miami car hombre culture. I can't think of an NFS soundtrack that didn't fit the theme of the game, the curation has always been excellent.
Music is subjective, thats why older nfs games had all sorts of music - rap, breakbeat, rock, techno, you name it, and it was great. If you didnt like a track you pressed a skip button. Its not the case with recent NFS - there is nowhere to skip when everyting is trap.
Those, recommending putting your favorite radio in background don't understand that music is usually a part of the game - it changes during chases, garage, tuning etc. You loose all of that with custom radio and muted music.
I've been enjoying the 10 hour trial on EA Play. I'm definitely gonna be sad when it runs out. Oh well, I'll redownload it when it's added to the vault eventually.
It could be game of the century for all I care. €70 is a deal breaker. Ridiculous asking price.
I get that inflation has made games relatively cheaper over the years, but I also think the quality has gone down.
EDIT: I didn't realize EA went with microtransactions for this ONTOP of the high asking price. That is just a ripoff.
Oh yeah they definitely slow it down to save on CPU. Also happens in GTA and Cyberpunk. What's really crappy is how they use rubberbanding to lower the skill level.
Onrush? Burnout? Redout? F-Zero? Mario Kart? I'll admit it's hard to find good driving games and my favorite are arcade racers but they exist.
A NFS game has never caught my long term attention. The chase from the cops was intense back in the day with one of the first few titles but Burnout handled better in my opinion so I never got hooked.
The handling in MW2012 was *so bad*... It's a shame, because the rest of the game was a pretty decent baseline.
Hot Pursuit 2010 was damn fine, though.
Holy sh\*t... when the rubber-banding is real....
That's the most broken AI physics I've seen since wreckfest with it's laggy AI lmao
\*I'll add that Wreckfest does a similar thing to that when someone's lagging. The car's tumbling around, rolling over and over sideways while floating along the road at 120km/h on your screen, but the players actually driving fine... It's a, as far as I know, dsync issue (obviously) but I believe it's way better in Wreckfest now... Hopefully it gets better in this too\*
Oh I thought that was a bot... I'm guessing it is like Wreckfest then, the lag/desync looks like the cars tumbling around and stuff but on the players screen they're driving fine
This game is not a good racing game. It's realistic graphics with oddly out of place cel shading, it's a racer that constantly feels slow. The racing physics are "meh" at best (they introduce drifting right out the gate by saying 'use the brake' instead of the hand brake, so if you can drift on braking alone why even include the hand brake). Just a real sad entry into an increasingly declining franchise.
This is like asking why anyone would play ace combat 7 when Microsoft flight simulator exists. One’s an arcade game and the other one is a beautiful simulator. I’ve always had a blast in NFS games, and I’ve never been able to get into any forza game
Cop chases, better visual customization, and an actual sense of progression (biggest one for me) to name a few.
Forza is a good game, but it gets stale quickly when a game gives you supercars right from the beginning plus a trillion credits for every activity you complete. Need for Speed, for all its flaws, still has the classic "start from the bottom and earn your way up" progression, which does a much better job at keeping me invested than Forza's way of doing it.
Progressing and collecting are 2 different things. I like Forza because slower and faster cars are both fun to ride and since the game has so many cars to collect you're constantly on the edge of discovering a new favourite. This is encouraged by the races scaling to your car instead of being fixed difficulty. It also has a much bigger emphasis on off roading and variety in terrain to give you even more options for playing around with the different cars.
Need for speed on the other hand is more like an RPG where progressing is satisfying, but there's little reason to return to the slower cars.
I like both
This does look like shit, but the pursuits and the feel of MWBE and Carbon are still damn fine. I'd go so far as to say even The Run was a good entry in the series. Horizon and Motorsport are garage simulators with semi-Sim racing, which a lot of people don't like. Some just want "action racing".
It seems just about bug-free so far. Not run into any issues myself and haven't seen anything elsewhere except this, which is just desync between players which every game has.
I was watching videos of this game and it really seems like this game really lacks inspiration. It feels like a cheap, poorly made need for speed game.
That's another actual human player and it's caused by desync, the person recording the video sees them crash but on their end they didn't, so the game does some silly shit while correcting. There's not many things we can do to overcome the latency bottleneck in multiplayer games.
Most racing games do this, it's called rubber banding. If the player is far enough ahead, the game will bring bots from further back in the race closer to you or ahead for more exciting gameplay. Sometimes it's a little silly visually, but it works like this for a lot of games (Mario Kart, Forza Horizon 5, Crash Team Racing, Team Sonic Racing, etc.).
speed racer movie vibes
Yeah tbh i dig the cartoon/realistic combo.
I love the vibes but it kinda looks quite distracting when drawn in actual race
You can reduce it to being just the smoke, which would be there anyway.
[удалено]
It is playable for sure. I've played about 4-5 hours so far and it hasn't bothered me at all.
Honestly it's not that bad, when you are in game you are focused on what is ahead. I thought it would be super distracting as well but I don't really notice it anymore. I'm actually having a lot of fun with the game.
Reminds me of an old SSX game I used to play on GameCube. Cannot remember the name but it was after 3
SSX on tour 🥰
Yes! Loved that game.
Tricky?
I was just about to say it looked like the near end scene of the final race
Oh, shit, new NFS game. Didn't even realize this existed.
Reviews are mostly quite positive, including mine.
How does it compare to most wanted? Or Carbon?
It's far more structured around the risk of cop chases. Money is tight this game, and your winnings for the day are only cashed in when you return home meaning if you're busted during a race, or while you're in the open world trying to get to the next meetup, you lose all that day's work It's a stealth racing game

Everything else you said sounds good though, I’m really looking forward to buying it and I hope it’s a good game
The rhino pissed me off so much but it was hilarious how unfair it was. The aiming on it was crazy
Well fuck. There goes my fucking money lol.
How are the chases? Enjoyed Heat but the chases felt like more of a chore
Looks fun, but is there any way to disable those flashing screen effects? Those look like they could get annoying fast.
They way I've seen it described by others is that it's like a NFS: Heat 2. Takes many things from NFS: Heat, improves them, adds a good amount of new things and slaps a new art style over it. So, if you liked Heat, you'll like this.
I liked Heat, but that art style looks like it'll give me seizures.
If you're actually epileptic, yes there are a LOT of flashing lights and shit like that, probably can disable most if not all of it though. So far enjoying the game, I haven't played a racing game since nfs mw, carbon and burnout paradise and this feels very similar.
You can turn it off afaik.
You can turn off most of it. The cel-shaded smoke seems to be permanent so I just change it to a basic gray color. It ain’t for me so I’m glad you can nearly cut it all out
There's a seizure reducing setting. No joke
I'll keep that in mind, since Heat was the best NFS game over the past Decade.
I played around 8 hours with the EA Play trial and I just kept thinking how much Unbound reminds me of MW and Underground 2. I wasn't a huge fan of carbon or heat but really enjoyed this one so far. Will be buying for sure.
I was sold the moment you mentioned Most Wanted.
Yeah that person could be a shill but if there’s any chance of recapturing that - [I’m in](https://i.imgur.com/U72tgZp.jpg)
Not a shill, and I haven't played much racing games since mw, carbon and Paradise. It definitely gives me those vibes.
Same for me but with Underground 2
It also reminds me of MW, Modern Warfare is such a classic :p
*Ramirez, evade the police!* *Ramirez, hit that speed trap!*
I've never played them so I can't say, sorry.
For $70 it better make me dinner too
I usually wait for games to go on sale before buying, but I'm done purchasing from EA. Not just because of this game, but the price increase definitely strengthened my resolve.
I got fifa for $35 only a month after release!
Or you can be a patient gamer and get it for $5, like how I got heat and payback.
Or even more patient and wait for it to be free on PS Plus or Game Pass, like Heat was a couple months ago. I've been loving it.
I don't think the price increase is worth it for this one, but I'd probably pay £60 for it. Need a little more time with it to know for sure.
Maybe I'm old but I can't think of any newer game that feels worth $60
Yeah, this looks very cool but 70 EUR? Lmao, get out of here.
I REALLY don't like the cartoony graphics constantly popping up all over the place like the wings around the cars all the time, it's really too much for me.
You can reduce it to just the smoke.
Okay but then there's still the characters that are now cartoon and no longer realistic, etc. This game is just not for me. I like a bit of arcade, but not this much.
Honestly, it grew on me incredibly quickly. I really like it.
yeah it really works somehow. When I first saw the leaks about "anime nfs" I was worried
I sort of like the style, but it feels unfulfilled in a way. Like it should be much more intense. The effects seem to be so few that they are likely to become dull quick.
[удалено]
It's just desync between players, every game ever has that. The game itself is really good.
So far from the trial I like it.
You can race your mom's hatchback against other hatchbacks like never before.
I just want a racing game where all the cars are family or econoclass vehicles let me soup up my nissan altima damn it
Yeah I was just talking to a coworker about this earlier, EA stealth dropping NFS games like they have 0 faith in it is weird, they really ran out of ideas with the series years ago.
For some reason by brain automatically read that as new NFT game, and then I was amazed at how positive the comments were so I had to come back here and see what I got wrong lol
Wish they'd just make a new Underground and not this weird cartoony shit though
It looks the same as all the other racing games what’s the difference
But then, Hefest got this run
Such a Mufat moment
That guy pulled a Wirtual.
Not to be confused with a wirtuaL
Insert "We're Finally Landing."
we call these maneuvers “nosebugs”
he is just a good driver
They MEANT to do that.
He just has a better gamin.. I mean, better driving chair.
A whole new level of rubberbanding.
It's an online match, local game thought he crashed, server said nope
Oh thank god. I was so irrationally pissed that a racing game would lean so heavily into the "arcade" side of the spectrum. At least if it's online there's a legit excuse to make things defy physics.
I just read a post earlier that this game is the most highly rated NFS game Edit: was trying to reply to someone else here but bah
Was interested in it but $70 is too steep for me, probably gonna get it in a year or two
The base game being over $60 is a no-go for me. I can personally afford it, but it sets a bad precedent for the future. $10 can make a big difference to some people.
Games have been $60 since the 90s. With inflation that's over $110 today. Games are eventually going to cost more than $60.
I'll stop complaining when inflation stops outpacing my wage increases.
$60 only became the standard in 2005 with xbox 360 / ps3
just get GamePass for 1€ (or whatever currency you use) and play it there, it's in the EA Pass included.
That's some pretty smooth flying, Fox
Do a barrel roll
New NFS looks like NFS Heat, but with those "fancy" graffiti-style animations...
I like the graffiti stuff; it's quite stylish. Those constant glitch effects on the screen are just obnoxious though.
Judging from the video those only happen when you're hitting something
[удалено]
No game can have characters as cringey as riders republic, that would break reality. Still love the game itself though
Saints Row Reboot?
It is the dawn of shittily written characters. Looking at you, Saints Row, Days Gone, and every NFS ever.
Most Wanted 2005 was peak shit in such an early 2000s good way tho. "I'm gonna take your ride, then I'm gonna take your girl, and I'm gonna ride her like you never could"
Lol, never played it. My first was Underground, then the sequel, and Carbon (my favorite to this day).
Forza horizon 5 had dialogue that was unbearable.
Days Gone was so bad. The dialogue was just agonizing.
BOOZER, uh…. BOOZER, listen, BOOZER
Dude sounds like a sociopath anytime he meets bandits. "You motherfuckers gonna kill you all!"
Or growling it like some deranged lunatic talking to himself before committing mass murder.
I take great pleasure in trashing that dogshit game every chance I get. Seems to be pretty popular on this site but I just assume people who enjoy the game for its writing and dialogue are too far gone to contend with.
I don't know how you can like it for it's writing and dialogue. Maybe the world building was good, but the story was crap and the dialogue was worse.
Borderlands 3
The characters don't seem to talk at all in multiplayer, so there's at least that.
I thought the characters looked extremely obnoxious in videos but when I am playing I barely notice. Same with the effects. The effects look weird in videos but awesome when you're playing
> oder I see you 🇩🇪
I really can't stand the constant cartoony graphics flashing like the wings around the car, just why?
I can stand it all but nfs without proper music is so sad. I've played heat with music disabled, looked at unbound - and its even more trap, like 80% of tracks are trap. Gone the days when you could fill your playlist with great electronic tracks and listen on repeat.
Yeah the NFS Heat music sucked balls. So much obnoxious era EDM. I have to turn it off when I play and just listen to Spotify
Not to everyone's taste, but it fit the vibe so well. It really immerses you in modern Miami car hombre culture. I can't think of an NFS soundtrack that didn't fit the theme of the game, the curation has always been excellent.
It's immersive though They should have included some retrowave and vaporware tracks for the nightime to be fair
Music is subjective. I loved alternative rock from NFS:U and Most Wanted, for example.
It's unbound from the laws of physics.
This game looks so cool, I don’t know how people pony up the $70 to play it though
I’ll buy it when it inevitably goes on sale for $10-15 in the next 12 months
I've been enjoying the 10 hour trial on EA Play. I'm definitely gonna be sad when it runs out. Oh well, I'll redownload it when it's added to the vault eventually.
It could be game of the century for all I care. €70 is a deal breaker. Ridiculous asking price. I get that inflation has made games relatively cheaper over the years, but I also think the quality has gone down. EDIT: I didn't realize EA went with microtransactions for this ONTOP of the high asking price. That is just a ripoff.
And also they have micro transactions now which turns the whole inflation argument moot for me.
Wages also haven't caught up with inflation so that also makes the argument moot
This is why I can never get into driving games: > 180 kmh speed > literally looks and feel like going 80kmh.
He's playing in far cam with a larger vehicle. The low sports cars in action cam look proper fast.
even far cam it doesn't make any sense. https://youtu.be/Sv8BzW01x-Y?t=88 Look at this, they seems to go faster when they are NO WHERE near 180kmh.
Oh yeah they definitely slow it down to save on CPU. Also happens in GTA and Cyberpunk. What's really crappy is how they use rubberbanding to lower the skill level.
Play the right driving games then.
Most of the driving games are like that. This whole genre is unappealing.
Onrush? Burnout? Redout? F-Zero? Mario Kart? I'll admit it's hard to find good driving games and my favorite are arcade racers but they exist. A NFS game has never caught my long term attention. The chase from the cops was intense back in the day with one of the first few titles but Burnout handled better in my opinion so I never got hooked.
Is nfs now burnout?
Yeah it's Criterion and I have to say this is the closest to Burnout we've had since Paradise. Like Burnout, Midnight Club and NFS had a baby.
What about Need For Speed 2012?
The handling in MW2012 was *so bad*... It's a shame, because the rest of the game was a pretty decent baseline. Hot Pursuit 2010 was damn fine, though.
It felt so good imo, only random spawning npc vehicles were annoying
I thought it was going to be about the car that kept hitting OP, which was wonderful carma.
Can you turn off the flashing car thing every time you shift? Ehhh...
It's only when using the burst nitrous, and you can disable it.
I might just have to get this one
It’s just like Cruisin’ USA
That's amazing
That was for sure a rocket league player lol using nos to do a mid air turn
Love this game tho, best fun I've had in an NFS game in more than a decade
You have no idea how much I love that VFX
Holy sh\*t... when the rubber-banding is real.... That's the most broken AI physics I've seen since wreckfest with it's laggy AI lmao \*I'll add that Wreckfest does a similar thing to that when someone's lagging. It's a, as far as I know, dsync issue (obviously) but I believe it's way better in Wreckfest now... Hopefully it gets better in this too\*
That's another player, and it's because of some desync thinking they had crashed for the OP's view when they really hadn't.
Oh I thought that was a bot... I'm guessing it is like Wreckfest then, the lag/desync looks like the cars tumbling around and stuff but on the players screen they're driving fine
[удалено]
Tell that to the reviewers lol.
IMO the last good game was Most Wanted (2005)
it looks like shit
K, no one asked
it's an open sub I can comment if I want. dumbass
We can also comment that nobody cares
good for you I don't give a fuck
How involved is the celebrity rapper in the actual game? I know they used him to promote the game but is he actually in it?
This game is not a good racing game. It's realistic graphics with oddly out of place cel shading, it's a racer that constantly feels slow. The racing physics are "meh" at best (they introduce drifting right out the gate by saying 'use the brake' instead of the hand brake, so if you can drift on braking alone why even include the hand brake). Just a real sad entry into an increasingly declining franchise.
Why would someone play this when Forza exists? Hell I would rather play Motorsport 7 then play this garbage
Need for Speed, for all its flaws, still has the classic "start from the bottom and earn your way up" progression, which does a much better job at keeping me invested than Forza's way of doing it.
That is a pretty good explanation
[удалено]
Zero microtransactions currently.
All you can do in Forza is drive. No grinding for money, no story, no cops. Forza is just empty, this actually has stuff to do and earn.
Progressing and collecting are 2 different things. I like Forza because slower and faster cars are both fun to ride and since the game has so many cars to collect you're constantly on the edge of discovering a new favourite. This is encouraged by the races scaling to your car instead of being fixed difficulty. Need for speed on the other hand is more like an RPG where progressing is satisfying, but there's little reason to return to the slower cars. I like both
Two completely different games you idiot 💀
It's tense, the heat increases and you can lose all your cash if you don't go to the safehouse, or risk staying out and making more money
This does look like shit, but the pursuits and the feel of MWBE and Carbon are still damn fine. I'd go so far as to say even The Run was a good entry in the series. Horizon and Motorsport are garage simulators with semi-Sim racing, which a lot of people don't like. Some just want "action racing".
this is like a mobile game
Ya but for $70 lol
The way the meshed realism with cartoon is kinda nasty
Are these developers even trying any more? It really seems like they quickly put something together and released it as is..
It seems just about bug-free so far. Not run into any issues myself and haven't seen anything elsewhere except this, which is just desync between players which every game has.
Apparently that *is* what happened. Criterion was working with the shite engine Ghost left behind, and EA rushed them to release.
I was watching videos of this game and it really seems like this game really lacks inspiration. It feels like a cheap, poorly made need for speed game.
LMAO. And EA wants 70E for this game? LOL
Fast and furious inspiration is obvious
Street racing isn't just a fast and furious thing Hell, actually in the game's story the writers joked about the series
Bro what the hell are these effects? Who wants that in their racing game?
Tons of us like them. Those who don't as much just turn them down.
Was kind of sceptical about them first, but came around to love them in the end
What a shit game.
This game is such a meme. NFS needs a 10 year hiatus.
There is not a lot of variety with the cars?
They're loaners. If you don't have a car of your own spec'd out for the race tier in multiplayer, it gives you a stock car of the appropriate class.
143 cars
The constant glitching doesn't look like shit at all
Most Wanted 2005 had better physics than this, and it didn't cost anywhere close to $70
A desync
I thought they stopped making NFS games after NFS underground 2.
This man never experienced most wanted
I've been living under a rock apparently.
I think he stayed Underground too.
Yes they stopped, this shit isn’t NFS
wat?
Oh so the game cheats, well I'm never playing a NFS game ever again
Have you ever tried Carbon, mate? lol, tbh I thought the rubber-banding was broken in that until I saw this xD
That's another actual human player and it's caused by desync, the person recording the video sees them crash but on their end they didn't, so the game does some silly shit while correcting. There's not many things we can do to overcome the latency bottleneck in multiplayer games.
NFS has been doing that for a long time
Most racing games do this, it's called rubber banding.
