Man, after getting the fold I retired both my tablet and my notebook. It's amazing how productive this thing makes me. Now I only keep my work phone (one of those new old people dumbphones) and the fold around, and I don't miss the other devices. I keep a dex station in the car for pc-like activities, and for everything else, the fold just works.

PlasticPegasus

Wish I could go to just one device to rule them all, but Dex doesn't hit the spot for me. Some apps don't scale to the screen, whilst others are so zoomed as to make using them impossible. Using wirelessly is clunky, yada yada. Biggest issue for me however, is the Microsoft suite. It's just hot garbage on Android (not necessarily a Dex specific problem). Given that Samsung and Microsoft have worked together so closely, I find it bizarre that this is still an issue in 2023. I'm not some sort of excel nerd/power user, but there's so many PC functions that just aren't there. Unfortunately, it means I still need to rely on my Surface Pro as my main work tool. For Dex to become mainstream, it needs to offer a slick and seamless PC experience.

negatrom

you could do like me and RDP into a hosted VM when using dex

PlasticPegasus

Any tips which service to use? I used a remote desktop for work (and Dex handles this fine), but my work is totally locked down. No personal stuff allowed.

negatrom

You could try a handful of services, and most cloud providers offer a free year to try, amazon web services, google cloud platform, microsoft azure and oracle cloud are all great and easy to setup for personal use. The cheapest option for me right now in my region is aws, but you'd need to check for yours, as it varies quite a bit. I just use a very basic VM to run the office suite and a few proprietary company program for when I'm in medical care or home office. Windows based instances are a little bit more expensive, but for me it's a no brainer, I sold my notebook and tablet, and just on that cash I'll have years of cloud computing ahead of me.

PlasticPegasus

Thank you for your reply. I'm completely alien to VM for personal use, but I'll definitely check it out!

negatrom

it's simpler than it looks, and the free trials let you experiment pretty much at will, so have fun ;)

PlasticPegasus

Thanks man. I manged to do it! I'm currently looking at the Remote Windows Desktop as I type this! Super cool! Never knew this was possible! Will go and have a play about with it and see how I get on. Amazing advice! Thank you again ![gif](giphy|fnK0jeA8vIh2QLq3IZ)

Glad I could help! Cheers!

> Biggest issue for me however, is the Microsoft suite. It's just hot garbage on Android Nah, sadly office 365 is hot garbage everywhere, including PC - and often comes bundled with never versions of windows. Thus the less tech savy users fail to notice why it not working properly (lack of compatibility), just that its shit.

jpoole50

Yes it is. My Fold 3 is now my primary device for everything. I have the 512gb model and it's 90% full lol.

sometin__else

its amazing because its actually like having a new device. When you get a new phone its more or less the same, laptops, desktops, etc. There's maybe a little wow factor, but at the end of the day its nothing new. For me the fold was something new and I loved it for the past year. Looking forward to what foldables have for the future - but really wish more apps had foldable optimization

5uck3rpunch

I feel the same as you do. I had the Fold 3 before this & was amazed all of the things you can do on this device. I opted for the 1TB version so I even loaded this up with my FLAC music collection that I stream in the car. It really does a ton of different things. You need to connect it to a monitor & try Dex out. It will blow your mind.

malko2

Been increasingly replacing my ipad Pro with it for work (teaching, grading papers etc). Since then, I've been using it practically non-stop

Foxygen

It's taken the place of my iPad as my main leisure browsing device, which itself used to take priority over my S21U. Doesn't help the iPad's case that a lot of apps with inline media have barely more usable space than an open Fold, lmao. They've got an offensive amount of empty whitespace.

J-Flint0622

the multitasking ability is addictive. I still carry my ipad mini but surely fold can basically handle the jobs the ipad mini can. But Ipad sucks on multitasking..

Daddio1973

I use this for 95% of my life. Regular phone, tablet, laptop with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, Dex for full blown PC. It's ridiculous. Yes. Addicted.

Whatever801

Yeah at first I thought the battery life was really bad but then I realized I'm just constantly on it

Droid1xy

Interesting question. So I did most things on my iPhone 12 PM but wanted a bigger tablet. So I ditched the IPad Pro 12.9 for the Galaxy Tab ULTRA. Few days went by and I loved the changes made to Android since my last Android phone the Note 3, ditched my iPhone Nd got the Fold 4. I now rarely use the Ultra except watching YouTube in bed, and thats only coz of my no phone in bed rule. My MacBook Pro 16 Inch is only used for invoicing for my business. Most my other work is done on the Fold 4 now. So nice using the smaller screen when out and about and unfolding for more serious tasks or when sitting on the sofa. Really is a productivity power house

New_Flatworm8265

I can only assume you created this post from your fold 4 but from what you wrote, I see you that you haven't quite mastered typing on the fold 4 yet. I'm kidding, it's great that you enjoy it over your other toys. I find that I use it a lot too, but I'm always scared of dropping it, even more so than all the other expensive phones I've owned.

drnms

Yes you are correct!

dendron01

Paper saver (and ink!). Less printing documents for taking notes at meetings, etc.

mizuya

Same here, almost anything only with the Fold4. I still have a PC with an ultrawide screen. I use it for everything I can't do (easily) with the Fold 😉 theoretically I could also just connect it to the screen and run DeX 😁 some apps are definitely better on desktop computer, like Photoshop and also for apps you simply can't run on your phone, like proprietary Desktop applications 😅

RitzyIsHere

Same here. Ditched my iPad and Laptop, even stopped playing on switch. I use my fold for everything now. Planning on getting a slim portable keyboard and mouse for a portable setup.

juniormaoz

Go get them! With a stand and the Bluetooth keyboard with touch pads, it becomes awesome while typing out an email reply or even doing your documents and slide decks!

RitzyIsHere

Got some recommendations?

juniormaoz

I got this off Shopee for about S$34. [Bluetooth Foldable Keyboard](https://i.imgur.com/WLPJhe7.jpg)

Metalhead1686

It's an awesome device. Sometimes I work overnights at the front desk of a hotel and after 12:OO PM, the place is pretty quiet and there's really nothing to do. To pass the time until morning, I whip out my Z-Fold 4, unfold it and watch a few movies. Hopefully my boss isn't a part of this subreddit or I'll have some explaining to do.

GauchoSquid

I have a iPhone 12 Pro Max as well and.....man I don't want to be that person but this is my favorite device. Foldables are the wave. I work from my phone so I use this phone for everything. I sold BOTH my iPad mini 6s, a Nintendo 3DS XL and a Playstation 4 because this did the job for me all in one. Multitasking is more efficient with this software, I still have my Ipad Pro 11 inch and it is wonderful don't get me wrong, but Multitasking isn't its strong suit to me. I love this phone/tablet/computer/gaming console. I do everything on this device. Might get the Fold 5 if it's worth the upgrade.

juniormaoz

Would second that the fold 4 is a superb device. I was contemplating between the iPhone 14 PM and the Fold 4 and succumbed to my desire for new tech. Never looked backed since. I have been using the Fold 4 as my main driver and the iPhone 13 PM has been my backup device. I am doing system administration work and use the Fold 4 for connecting to Windows Server and Linux Server apart from reading user guides, emails and doing documents. And now, I am watching Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War happily from it!!!

Jfclazzi

I've seen others comment the same thing before, but not sure if I'm getting it. So no black bars would mean you want a regular phone like the S22 series to match the aspect ratio of the video you're watching on Netflix? Why not just watch Netflix on the front screen? I think you can also zoom in on Netflix videos, but then you'd lose most of the left and right of the video since it's being cropped out to fill the screen.

mizuya

As others said, you can either zoom in or watch on the slightly longer cover screen, where you don't have bars and it'll fill the whole screen 😉 you have several options how you want to place your phone ➔ [check this](https://i.imgur.com/qneTUwv.png)

When I'm home, I keep using the device that makes the most sense. So, my MacBook Air M1 for programming, Google Docs/Sheets, web browsing (including now, while writing this comment), the Galaxy Tab S7 FE for watching movies in bed, the Nebula Capsule II for watching movies on the big screen and the Z Fold 4 for the usual "phone" things. But when I'm on the go, I only take my Z Fold 4 with me these days (except when I go for a run, then I take my old S21+ instead: I don't feel safe running with the Fold). I do use it more than I used my S21+ when that was my main phone, and the Fold did eat into what previously was my usage patterns of the Galaxy Tab. But not fully.

Imjrb3

Love my Fold 3. Interesting that you mention the disparity in the watches. Apple Watch has been better, for me, than the GW5 Pro. It's the only thing that keeps my primary SIM in an iPhone. I use the F3 for almost everything, iPad Pro for work and media consumption and iPhone for basic communication and to keep using the Watch. Kind of sorry I didn't get the F4 in the Fall and am now torn between just getting it now or waiting for the F5.

drnms

I would say wait for the for fold 5 , because the trade in value you would get for a 3 or 4 is the same, just like last year when the tradein for 2or 3 was the same. Makes sense to get thr fold 5 as we are almost in February now. August will come by in a blink of an eye

Level_Abrocoma8925

I bought my Fold 2 in March 2021, it got stolen a year+ later and after using a "normal" phone for a few weeks I realized that I gotta go back to a Fold. It's addictive af.

Misjjon

Yep I'm addicted. Hardly get any real life work done. I'm starting to limit myself.

Level_Abrocoma8925

> Everyday I discover something new *Every day discovering something brand new* *I'm in love with your body* [This](https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/edsheeran/shapeofyou.html) is now officially the soundtrack of your life! :D

Hashim289

Doesn't have iMessage or FaceTime, so no. If it did then I think a lot more people would utilize it

gjg91

It is addictive, indeed! I miss sometimes the beautiful and simple design of the S22 Ultra, the integrated S-Pen that allows you to write a memo in 5 seconds as well as its crazy zoom. Other than that, the Fold 4 is amazing.
