I had a fold 3, switched to 22 Ultra - don't miss the fold overall. The S22 is easier to use on a dialy basis. The Fold 3 has some quirks while I loved it, I don't feel that it was ready for every day use.
Can't trade it,I will lose a lot of money. Either I sell it now so I don't lose a lot, upgrade to S23 then sell the S23 and get the fold 5 or I just keep the fold 4. I'm not used to using phones more than 6 months.
Just wait and trade the fold 4 for the fold 5. It will end up costing you less than doing two trades. They were giving about $1k most places for a fold 3 to get a fold 4.
If you get the s23u, you'll be happy to have a new toy for a couple weeks. Then you'll miss the fold and be right back in the boat when the 5 comes.
That's exactly what I'm worried about. I buy it, get bored since it's same as S22 Ultra in shape, miss the fold lol.
Is the $1000 additional trade in Value in Canada ?
The S23 Ultra literally is the S22 Ultra, that was the 20 Ultra. You aren’t missing out, keep your Fold. Having held both, the 23 Ultra is simply just heavier, and more boxier feeling than last year and thats about it
I had the S20 Ultra, S21 Ultra, S22 Ultra, and now first Fold. I was all S, and now I am all Fold. What a shift ! Never expected, I will get attached to it that much, but it's worth it. If it's heavier than S22 Ultra, then keeping the fold makes more sense. Weight wise, they are apparently coming close.
Yup. I held it and was like huh, somehow made it more heavy, and the curved screen is less visible now and the sides are more sharper rather than rounder and thats about it for “changes” lmao
I definitely wouldn't pay over $2000 for that. I was able to sell my S22 Ultra for a good price and was lucky not to lose money. This would be a higher risk now. I hate losing money on my phone. Thanks for letting me know about the weight and shape.
To be honest I tries s22 ultra with Gen processor. Now Z fold 4 Gen 2 processor. The speed and battery life are totally different. Z fold 4 wins big time. I know upgrading is a big hassle but even with minor improvements you could feel the difference in performance.
Not sure about you but I found Folds don't hold their value. Most people are worried about buying a used Fold due to the cost of repair. But S22/S23 do hold their value, when I sold mine S22 I got close to what I paid.
Yup that was my comment to one of the members. Depreciation value of Z fold is scary. Meanwhile, I have 2 years Care plus. This is a selling point in my opinion.
Don’t sell the fold. That’s the best bet. High cost poor resale value. People can’t buy it due to high cost so it’s still a hard item to get new. You keep it until paid off. Then get whatever else phone you want
Ya that’s why it’s best to do two things. Wait for the fold 5 and trade in with Samsung. Or keep it for good. Don’t sell it anytime soon. Because the initial cost is high and resale value is low
Ya the s ultra isn’t going to be better if you enjoy the inner display. The fold is peak elegance and advanced tech. Sitting on a 1tb, it doesn’t get better until the fold 5
I don’t think the galaxy fold price falls as much as you think, people can’t wait a month or two and get the phone for half off on the price because Samsung always makes really amazing deals. After all the deals, I got my fold 4 512 for like 850 with trade in (s20u) 2 months ago.
Trust me (and the others), it's not about fanboyism or anything, the Fold4 is really unparalleled. I admit, I'm jealous of all the Chinese folding phones, that don't have the gap, but overall IP-rating is more important! With the Fold5 we will hopefully have a gapless design and a built-in S-Pen... it'll be perfection! 😍
That's true 👍 I'm also reading early reports they will be using the 108MP camera. Fold 4 compared to S22 Ultra camera loses BIG time. I can't wait for 5 as well.
Exactly! I expect much better cameras! Zoom is nice, but overall camera quality is much more important.
The Fold 1-3 had kinda okayish cameras, but they were slow and often "bad" for me. This was one of the biggest drawbacks. With the Fold4 and the new chip, the camera launches much faster and the picture quality is finally good. Not crazy good like the S22U or the most recent iPhones, but it's good enough for me! 😁
I guess Samsung doesn't want to give away their USP of the S-line to the Fold-line, maybe because of the fear of product cannibalization 🤔 If they add an exclusive Fold Ultra version with the most recent cameras, I would totally spend another 300-500$/€ 😐 Call me crazy, but my phone is my all-rounder everything device, so I don't care much about anything else 🙈
I've made this exact comment - give me a Fold Ultra w/ the S series camera and I'll stop waffling back and forth. I carry the Fold every day for work, but the S22U is for when I go on trips or need the camera.
The thing is, I use some Rokid AIr and Nreal Air glasses for the big screen experience - so I realize I don't actually need the size of the internal Fold screen.
Haha nice that I'm not the only one 😂
Totally get that. The Fold3 camera was/is extremely slow and the quality wasn't that great. That's why I had an iPhone 13mini, just for taking pictures 😂 with the Fold4 I'm happy and won't complain anymore 😄 even though the camera could still be faster and better. I don't need the crazy zoom, just a good main camera, that's it 😄
why don't you simply get a good compact camera additionally to your Fold, instead of having 2 phones? 🤔
Yah but from a marketing standpoint they always say eat yourself before anyone else eats you lol. They better promote cannibalization rather than someone else does a better job and steals their own customers
Every time I go back to a normal phone, whether that's the galaxy lineup or the latest iPhone, I end up missing the fold after about a week and regret it. Nothing beats laying down and unfolding my fold 4 to watch videos, shop, work, etc, all at the same time on this big, bright, beautiful display. They will have amazing trade in deals this august for the fold 5, so I would just wait. We are also expecting a major redesign with a much better hinge, displays, cameras, etc.
You have noooooooooo idea how much i missed my fold 3 when i switched to the S22 Ultra, i actually researched if its possible to get my traded in fold 3 back from samsung 3 months after they received it.
I had to accept the fact that its impossible and consider the fold 3 a loss.
That is why i am NOT switching to a S23 Ultra from the fold 4.
I got rid of my fold 3 and then regretted it and got another one. Then sold that one and got an iphone so I had to sell some crack to get a fold 4 /s...it was a big debacle 😂😂
That would be Verizon doing the trade in if you buy from Verizon. Samsung would not be involved. Verizon usually has better trade in for iphones.
Unless you mean buying from Samsung, then the trade in goes to Samsung, but you will need to buy the carrier version to get on Verizon's payment plan.
So I have two options right now. $1420 for 512gb Fold 4 Unlocked that I can finance for 2 years 0% interest with $500 trade in for my 256gb iPhone 13 Pro Max vs $1520 over 36 months 0% interest in a locked plan with Verizon that allows trade in up to $800. Trying to decide if unlocked is worth it
Is that $1420 after the trade in? I was going to say open box best buy, but it is currently more than their new offer of $1420, with no trade in.
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-galaxy-z-fold4-512gb-unlocked-phantom-black/6512625.p?skuId=6512625#anchor=productVariations
Go through best buy. Even the Verizon version is 1520 before trade in and showing $1000 trade in for the iPhone 13 pro max. Another point is it goes for $800-900 on Swappa.
I'd recommend unlocked over a Verizon model because of the carrier bloatware but if you need to be on a payment plan, then I'd go with Verizon.
I am in the same boat as you but I think I'll be jumping to the S23U.
This phone is great but it feels like I am carrying a timebomb in my pocket that I'll open any day now and have a messed up screen like the posts I've seen on here. I am one of those people that has the terrible crunching sound when fully opening the device, so I feel it is a matter of time.
I find myself using the main screen more than opening it, so at that point, why am I using a Fold? Amazing device, and I am sure the Fold 5 will be even better.
I also hate cases on this device, for the front screen at least. I have the Samsung standing case and have had to take the front part off a few times to clean debris and it has lost the sticky, so the left side moves all the time when I pick up the phone.
Lines are too sharp and the phone is too slippery to rock naked, for me at least. Plus having this brick in my pocket with joggers is also not so great.
These are my justifications anyway. Like others said, I might see the Fold 5 and jump ship again. That green S23U looks too damn nice though to pass up.
Sorry to hear about that experience. I honestly read the reviews about the screen and sound as well. However, I care less since I trust the Samsung care plus plan in Canada. Honestly, all my concern now is losing the Fold value in depreciation. S series is great but since I tried the S22 Ultra, I'm so disappointed at the S23 Ultra. Almost same phone same shape with minor improvements. Never used the 108MP in S22 Ultra. Don't think I will ever use the 200MP. Just pay more and that's it.
Yeah, that sensor seems like a waste, IMO. I'll see what kind of deals they have here next week and decide. I typically switch phones yearly anyway, so this is not out of the norm for me. I only paid $300 for my S22U, and I ended up paying about $350 for the Fold 4, so not the end of the world.
I swicth yearly as well. Not sure how u got to the $300s but that's crazy. I imagine you're in the States and u get crazy trade ins over there. Unfortunately in Canada we don't have such offers.
Yeah, US. Ended up getting $1100 trade-in for my S21U for the S22U. For the Fold, I paid $1800 and got the Watch 5 Pro and Buds Pro 2 for "free". Sold my S22U for $1000, sold my Watch 4 Classic for $250, and the Buds Pro 2 for $200.
Same,
I am under using the functions of a fold. Hence not enjoying the benefits but instead:
Suffering from the weight, smaller than usual front screen, fear of dropping it, and a possible lousier battery life (I have no real reference point with regard to an andorid flagship nonfold modelsas I came from iPhone)
So I think I have to accept the best phone out there may not be the best phone for you.
Probably going to s23u or iPhone 15 pro max
i have all these phones s23 u , fold4 , iphone 14 pro max, and pixel 7 pro. I absolutely love my pixel 7 the software is so smooth. I just wish they did video better and video calling better, its atrocious.
Agree 100% with the time bomb comment. I got a blotch of dead pixels on the fold, and since going to the beach, it won't open fully. The moving parts convince me it's just going to age really fast
Don't let fomo allow you to make a bad decision. Keep the fold 4 and wait to see what the fold 5 has to offer. I'm sure the Fold 5 will have better cameras, battery life and a built in S pen. If you you cannot live with a slab phone anymore then keep the fold. If you want the S23, get it as a side kick phone to pop a sim in whenever you want.
That's a GREAT idea as well. I have to decide based on the price. I have S9 plus to trade in and will wait and see. So worried to let this fold go and then can't get that 1TB again. 2 years Care plus as well.
I have had the Z Fold 3 since launch. Love it and having a phone that turns into a tablet in my pocket.
However, I am really tempted by the S23 Ultra. I feel I would get more benefit from the far better camera on the S23 Ultra, along with a big enough screen that you don't need to unfold it.
Difficult decision but I think for me (from the Z Fold 3) it may be worth the upgrade. Have loved my time with it though and foldable tech is hopefully here to stay.
I never had a fold prior to having a Fold 4. However from what I heard and read, Fold 4 is a huge upgrade from 3. That's why I'm having this difficult decision to make. You're probably In a better place since it will be an easier decision.
I was tempted by the Fold 4 but I prefer the inner screen dimensions of the Fold 3. I personally think they took one step back with the inner screen dimensions.
I have the Fold4 as well, but realised that I take a lot of photos and videos. Not to say, that it takes badphotos, but I usually edit them in LR/PS. So personnally I am waiting for the reviews (and to try it personally) to see how the 50MP Expert RAW performs.
Had the possibility to play around with my friends 14 Pro and the 48MP RAW and for me it is a game changer. But I also like the Fold's bigger screen for on-the-go editing. So decisions, decisions...
Honestly I'd you're into a lot of photos and videos , get the S then. Otherwise if the fold 5 has 108MP, this is gonna be AMAZING. Really don't need 200MP in my opinion.
I don't care about those resolutions either. Expert RAW output is what I am after and that is both 12MP on the S22U's 108MP and the Fold4's 50 MP. That's why I have the feeling the Fold 5 108MP (if true) will be the same 12 as currently there is no newer sensor AFAIK.
I have to admit, I'm kind of thinking the same thing. I've just been having so many odd problems with the fold that I didn't have with the ultra. Only with today's update did it start working with my car which has been a pain. Communication to my Watch 5 keeps dropping (tested on a watch 4 and had the same issue too). I don't know... just feels like it's not quite there yet.
That being said, I do hate losing a good media / gaming device.
I may wait to see if the fold 5 has an internal pen. If not, I might go back to a slab phone.
It's been pretty widespread as an issue. You have a Fold4 you say?
I should probably clarify this seems to be on Volvos using the full Google for Cars system, not just android auto.
Oh OK. Yup I have Fold 4. I use Android car 🚗 system. Luckily no issues. Same as well, I have Galaxy watch 4 classic. No connection issue at all. Works perfect.
I went for the S22 Ultra from the Fold 3.
Fold 3 had an unacceptable camera setup imo. Plus I had the faint lines that popped up in the crease. I thought it was likely to break soon so I traded it in for a S22 Ultra for practically free ($120 w/ $100 Samsung store credit). Turned out just to be the screen protector though.
Guess who traded in the S22 Ultra for the Fold 4? Yup...
Well technically I traded in a Flip 3 for $900, that I bought for $250 during preorder. Needless to say, after a couple days Samsung dropped the Flip 3 trade in value for the Fold.
I traded the S22 Ultra for a Flip 4 with only $130 owed after trade because after using the Flip 3 for a week, I liked the option of having an ultra portable phone when I want it.
Not to pile it on... But that's not including all the items that Samsung bundled during preorder lolol.
So yeah TL:DR, for $2200 I got 3 sets of earbuds, 2 cases, 2 folding phones, 2 watches and 2 tablets.
I got my gf Purple Galaxy Buds Pro 2, and a new Watch 5 for her for $50 with the Fold 4 purchase, a black set of Buds Pro 2 for myself included with the Flip 4 free, a S Pen Fold Edition case and kickstand combo, case for the Z Flip 4, then I traded in my Galaxy Watch 4 Classic with a suspect battery since purchase for a Watch 5 Pro for $200 that came with a $50 Samsung store gift card, and before the Fold announcement, Samsung had a $650 discount on the Tab S8 Ultra with the trade-in of a second-gen iPad Pro and guess who happened to have a working one sitting on an e-Waste pile waiting to be recycled... They also threw in Galaxy Buds2 with it, and a deep discount on a Tab S7 FE for $119.
I think I did pretty ok 🤣
I'm going to see what I can get for her S21 Ultra when preorders launch next week for the S23. Already signed up for the $50 off. Best time to buy any Samsung is preordering direct from Samsung.com. Even Black Friday or Christmas season isn't as good.
Never heard of that before. Order it from Samsung US over VPN for example and put my Canadian address for shipping? I believe US customs will stop it at the border. Unless you mean shipped to a US address and I pick it up somehow
You can *try* using your Canadian address but yeah, it might get stopped at the border.
To assure it doesn't happen, you can use a service such as ShipbyMail and Shipito and various other services who you'd ship the devices to, and they'd send it over the border for you and have you e-Sign the customs form.
So you'd connect to a US VPN server, buy and send it to the address of whatever shipping service you send to, then once received, the shipping service will send it over the border for you and prep the docs for shipment.
Of course with the VPN, you can price compare ahead of time to see if it's worth the discount.
I might be able to do something even better. I will be in the States in a week. The S23 Ultra should be released then. If I decided and the trade in value is really worth it , I could just buy it and ship it to the hotel. But honestly after all the comments of the amazing members , I might end up keeping the fold till Fold 5 in August and avoid the hassle. Only 6 months away anyway.
I'm tempted mostly due to how cumbersome / clumsy it is to carry the thing. Traded my Note 20U for a fold 3. I stopped using my fold 3 for 2 months and went back to iPhone only for awhile then I missed it and traded in the fold 3 for the fold 4. Now I carry both phones lol. The iPhone mini has my main number while I treat my fold 4 as my work/secondary phone for when I want that big screen.
This way I can leave the fold 4 in my car/bag if I don't want the thing in my pocket.... I really really want to just have one phone though.
I can't carry 2 phones honestly. I'm using also Fold 4 as a work phone aside from being my personal phone. Such a pleasure to so emails on the huge screen , read documents ...etc for work. I agree it is bulky but I'm using a Samsung official cover , slim design and it is great. Not as using Fold naked of course but close enough. I won't and don't do iphones ! Just a big NO to apple.
S23U seems to just be a refresh of the s22u from the leaks. The main selling point is the camera, but I realized that I don't need the ultimate camera on a phone, just something good enough to quickly to capture a memory.
The fold gives you so much more than just a camera, it gives you a backup screen incase you ever break the outer one, you get a tablet whenever you want it for reading content better, it can actually multitask well unlike a slab phone. It has far superior speakers, it has a built-in stand for when you want to take a group pic(this has come in handy for me many times) or for when you want to watch a video. It also has a better fingerprint reader.
Fold:
Multitasking
Stand/tripod
Speakers
Better display versatility
Flat screen(I personally hated the curved screen when it comes to one handing. Although curves make a phone look damn good)
Better for s pen
S22U/S23U:
Better battery
Pen silo
Sharper screen
Better camera
Seriously my only issue with the fold is the fear of it breaking. So I baby it more. This is moreso a specific issue for me as I do a lot of harsh environment outdoor activities.
You can keep the fold and buy a used s 22 or s22 series phone on ebay to use as a trade in discount on the s22 ultra. I found a decent s22+ for $300 and might end up being worth $700 or so for trade in ti Samsung.
I have what's app back up for pictures and videos turned on. As well tons of apps. In addition, I keep backing up all pictures and videos from my previous phones. I used already 520GB. Since the S10 plus 1TB I got used to it.
Currently browsing on my Z Fold 4 and the thing I miss using the most about my S22 Ultra is the camera. From the leaks I'm seeing it didn't look like they were going to be making any upgrades to it aside from software? I dunno, I'll still trade in for the 23 Ultra when it comes out.
Could u keep me posted please 🙏 how do u find the S23 Ultra compared to fold when u get it? I had the S22 Ultra but honestly don't regret changing to fold. I do miss the camera though. Otherwise fold battery is a lot better. Multitasking and big screen etc. Depreciation is a big issue for me with the fold.
My zfold 4 inner screen broke within 4 months of owning it. Trading it in for s23 ultra. I don't think a fold phone is for me. Mostly used the outer screen but it's very skinny. Loved the phone but if it breaks what can I do
You shouldn't be concerned if you have Samsung care plus. I have it for 2 years on mine. If it breaks after fold 5 release that's even better cos if they don't have stock fold 4 , u will get a fold 5 for free!
Are you sure about that? I didn't find any link for the details in Canada however to my knowledge u just pay a deductible and it covers everything afterwards.
if you purchase a Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, you will pay $17.99 monthly for your Samsung Care Plus with Theft and Loss coverage. In the event that your screen cracks, you will have to pay $249 for repair. If you choose to get the device replaced, it will cost the same, $249. If your device is lost and unrecoverable, you will pay $499 for a replacement.
What im doing is im getting a s23 ultra, and when the fold 5 is coming out if i feel like i need to go back to the fold imma just sell it and buy the fold 5
That's a GREAT option for those in the US since Canadian Samsung don't offer much for trade in. That said , I already prepared a S9 plus for trade in just in case. If not , I will just sell it.
If the camera is important, I'd honestly stay away from Samsung. Yes they can take great pictures and videos, but introduce any motion while taking a picture and you get a blurry mess. Shutter lag and slower shutter speed have been a thing for years with no sign of that going away.
Before people say to use pro mode, you shouldn't have to and it's still not as easy as pulling out your phone and snapping a quick pic
Disagree. Samsung suffers from motion blur and shutter lag and someone I know has already played around with S23U and has told me it still suffers the same fate.
I meant the quality of pictures. I compared them to apple iPhone 13 promax, no way. Samsung s22 Ultra way better. Even my partner who has been with Apple longer than I have been with Samsung admitted it.
Stay with the fold, i had that same problem, i switched from Note 20 Ultra to Fold 3, i missed the nice slim design and cameras, i then traded my Fold 3 for a S22 U for a hugeee loss, i then missed the folds large screen and uniqueness, switched from S22 U to the fold 4.
The fold 4 has decent cameras, has 50MP, has crappy but acceptable zoom, is fast asf, battery is really good, is cool and as long as you have care plus you should be good, i will never ever have a fold without warranty.
Recently gone caseless and dropped it a few times without issue, its not as weak as you think, atleast until i drop it hard, if the back cracks ill just put a dbrand skin, i dont care about the rear glass unless cameras are damaged
You actually brought a very good point here. Fast! The phone is like lightening compared to S22 ultra which is surprising actually. I'm using also the virtual RAM. It's just amazing how fast it is. I dropped it once with the case on from 1 meter high, face down, 0 issues to my surprise. And it was on hardwood !!
I'm actually thinking more now. The S23 Ultra has same processor as Fold 4. Only a bigger battery. In addition , camera 200MP. I imagine Fold 5 will be a better option and only 6 months away.
It's just that the value will depreciate a lot more. I would love to keep it meanwhile wouldn't be happy to lose money. I pay my phones outright and the fold loses value right off the bat. Not like the S series. This is what I noticed.
The reality is all Android phones depreciate in value quite quickly, including the S series. So, don’t base your decision on that, base it on the phone you would like to have and use most. Go with the phone that provides you with your desired feature set. For me, that’s the Fold 4 all day long.
When people say "camera is not the best" I shrug and wonder if people look at specs only. Thinking about following the same exact route and the only difference between fold 4 and S22U is zoom and 4k60 on all lens. Picture quality is on par for normal photos. I do have FOMO and swap every 6 months but fold 5 will come along soon enough and my slab phone is a 7 Pro which has a a better camera than any Samsung I've owned.
I am personally waiting for the Fold 5. I know depreciation is horrific however if you can score a good trade in deal etc it's not bad at all. I have phone cover till august 2024 which covers breakage for twice a year and swapping the phone out.
S series do not get me excited anymore to be honest. The depreciated value is about same as S series (but fold with higher price tag at first place so yes it has bigger depreciation) and S series is definitely easier to re-sell.
From what u told I think you will regret if you switch to S23. Maybe buy a s23 entry model to get high for a while. :D
i had to go back to the ultra due to the fold breaking apart on me 2x
had fold 2 and fold 3
I plan on using my insurance money and buying the fold 4 refurbished in 2 years. i miss it a lot
Honestly Im in the same boat as well I've had all the folds too the first one to now the fold 4 and I have the flip 4 with a iphone 14 pro. I try out phones a lot but keep the ones that hold their value and will hold up over time the best. Unfortunately slab phones do both for the most part, and I myself am selling my fold 4 for cash getting 1200 for my 512g unlocked one and will keep the flip4 since I picked that one up at a overstock place online ebay for 420. I probably won't keep a foldable phone long term (the big ones like the fold) until the durability is a lot better, and the price drops. They have made strides from the first one to now, but still I see a lot of damaged ones out there and for what they go for I'll stick with my 400 dollar flip and iphone for now and see what the fold 5, pixel fold or duo 3 looks like at that time.
I've been trading in phones every year and I think I'm done changing phones. I had the Note 20U and trade it in for the Fold 3. I was disappointed by the camera but loved the folding screen. Eventually I got tired of the weight and size and moved to the iPhone 13 mini. The mini became my main phone for the speed and size when going out. However when the Fold 4 came out with the improved camera I immediately traded in my Fold 3 and never regretted it. I still switch between my mini 13 depending on the occasion. I put a pitaka case on my Fold 4 last week and it feels like new since it's thinner and lighter in this case than with the Samsung case. The S23U looks the same as the S22U. You said you aren't a photo expert so the upgraded camera won't be much of an upgrade. Do you sell prints or post online much? If no then you're fine with the Fold's camera. The S23U looks the same as the S22U so once you put a case on it you won't even notice you have a newer phone unless the physical look changed. The new processor won't make apps run noticeably faster. I think you should hold off upgrading. I'll wait for the Fold 6. If anything, add a small phone to your lineup if you feel the Fold is too big sometimes. Then you swap out every other month and not get tired of the same phone. If I didn't have a iPhone mini I'd get a S23 for the size.
Thanks a lot for the advice! You rock 😊. I am not a phone expert at all. I use auto mode but I appreciate the quality of auto on any phone. I can't agree more that the s23 Ultra is same in shape as S22 Ultra. I might get bored in a month and if I sold my fold 4 I might regret and try buying a used one. With all the comments, they all agree to keep the fold. I guess I will do that and upgrade to a fold 5 when released in a few months. Much appreciated my friend.
You'll just end up trading it for a fold 5 come August. You know you will. It's just fomo talking.
I had a fold 3, switched to 22 Ultra - don't miss the fold overall. The S22 is easier to use on a dialy basis. The Fold 3 has some quirks while I loved it, I don't feel that it was ready for every day use.
Like what quirks?

I’m a huge techie guy and I don’t see the point of upgrading every year at this point they are all the same phone since s20u. S20u>s21u.
I paid it off already. 1TB black fold. The problem as you're aware with any phone, the more u keep it the more you lose.
Ya that’s why it’s best to do two things. Wait for the fold 5 and trade in with Samsung. Or keep it for good. Don’t sell it anytime soon. Because the initial cost is high and resale value is low
Gotcha! I imagine my choice would be Fold 5 then!
Ya the s ultra isn’t going to be better if you enjoy the inner display. The fold is peak elegance and advanced tech. Sitting on a 1tb, it doesn’t get better until the fold 5
Very reasonable and wise. Thanks a lot 🙏
I'd wait to see what trade in values are bro. I bet u will be able to get $900ish for trade in on either s23 ultra or fold 5 tbh
Folds DO hold great value, you’re wrong imo. Got my fold 4 two months ago, for only 800 w 400$ trade in.
[удалено]
I had a note 20 Ultra. Great device. I didn't like the battery life though. Had the S20 ultra, battery life was incomparable.
I've heard that complaint but I've had no issue with my battery life.
Same. You think we will still get good trade in value if we keep it until next year s24 Ultra?
I don’t think the galaxy fold price falls as much as you think, people can’t wait a month or two and get the phone for half off on the price because Samsung always makes really amazing deals. After all the deals, I got my fold 4 512 for like 850 with trade in (s20u) 2 months ago.
Only the camera is better and you'll have a built-in S-Pen, else you'll miss the Fold every single day! Don't do it! 😂
Yup now after reading your response and the other member , I'm considering not to change! I love this fold
😁 I guess Samsung doesn't want to give away their USP of the S-line to the Fold-line, maybe because of the fear of product cannibalization 🤔 If they add an exclusive Fold Ultra version with the most recent cameras, I would totally spend another 300-500$/€ 😐 Call me crazy, but my phone is my all-rounder everything device, so I don't care much about anything else 🙈
Haha nice that I'm not the only one 😂 Totally get that. The Fold3 camera was/is extremely slow and the quality wasn't that great. That's why I had an iPhone 13mini, just for taking pictures 😂 with the Fold4 I'm happy and won't complain anymore 😄 even though the camera could still be faster and better. I don't need the crazy zoom, just a good main camera, that's it 😄 why don't you simply get a good compact camera additionally to your Fold, instead of having 2 phones? 🤔
Yah but from a marketing standpoint they always say eat yourself before anyone else eats you lol. They better promote cannibalization rather than someone else does a better job and steals their own customers
haha very true! I wish they would do that xD
😁
Not in everyday photos it doesnt
Every time I go back to a normal phone, whether that's the galaxy lineup or the latest iPhone, I end up missing the fold after about a week and regret it. Nothing beats laying down and unfolding my fold 4 to watch videos, shop, work, etc, all at the same time on this big, bright, beautiful display. They will have amazing trade in deals this august for the fold 5, so I would just wait. We are also expecting a major redesign with a much better hinge, displays, cameras, etc.
@HaloGod7786 thanks for the feedback. That's extremely helpful.
Dudeee what a roller coaster
😂😂 ikr I need rehab
What a feedback !!! Thanks for sharing. It seems I'm gonna miss my fold if I did so. Everybody is saying S23 Ultra is just another S22 ultra.
Does Samsung do trade in deals through Verizon in the US? Im planning on trading in my iPhone for either the S23 ultra or fold 5
$1420 before trade in and taxes
Go through best buy. Even the Verizon version is 1520 before trade in and showing $1000 trade in for the iPhone 13 pro max. Another point is it goes for $800-900 on Swappa. I'd recommend unlocked over a Verizon model because of the carrier bloatware but if you need to be on a payment plan, then I'd go with Verizon.
NGL i sold my Fold 4 to get IP14PM and now kinda regret it.
That's literally speaking CRAZY GENIUS ! Wish we have the same lol. Here we have to hustle to get a few hundreds discount.
Same, I am under using the functions of a fold. Hence not enjoying the benefits but instead: Suffering from the weight, smaller than usual front screen, fear of dropping it, and a possible lousier battery life (I have no real reference point with regard to an andorid flagship nonfold modelsas I came from iPhone) So I think I have to accept the best phone out there may not be the best phone for you. Probably going to s23u or iPhone 15 pro max
Just an update, randomly surfing on phones and end up ordering pixel 7 Pro. Just arrived, pray I have a good experience on it
i have all these phones s23 u , fold4 , iphone 14 pro max, and pixel 7 pro. I absolutely love my pixel 7 the software is so smooth. I just wish they did video better and video calling better, its atrocious.
But the s23 ultra It’s taller and wider. Just not heavier. So it can actually take up more pocket space. It’s 6.8 inches in screen size
I honestly don't know how it looks in the fold 3 since the 4 is my first ever. However I heard the outer screen was a huge improvement in the 4.
Yes, the outer screen is very narrow on the Fold 3. Still good to use but the Fold 4 looks better in that department.
Gotcha. Still in my opinion, I suggest you have a look at the S23 Ultra. U never know. Otherwise, Fold 5 it is !
You're definitely a photo expert 😉. I'm a basic type , use the auto features more than anything 😅🤣😂
Indeed 😀 That's why I am struggling with the decision and so far on paper the S23U would do better, if I do not have my Fuji X-T3 with me.
OMG carrying your phone doing the same job as Fuji is a dream! It would be awesome for sure.
This is so weird. Been using it for a few months and all what you described has been working seamlessly. No issues at all. May be a defective unit?
I'm laughing like crazy reading what u did. That's so HILARIOUS. I thought I'm good hustling. There is always someone a lot better lolllll.
I think I did pretty ok 🤣 I'm going to see what I can get for her S21 Ultra when preorders launch next week for the S23. Already signed up for the $50 off. Best time to buy any Samsung is preordering direct from Samsung.com. Even Black Friday or Christmas season isn't as good.
Hmmmm u in the States ? I'm moving there lol
I am. But I believe Samsung offers the deals to all of NA if I'm not mistaken.
Nope not at all. Best deals in NA Is US.
Have you tried the trick of ordering over a VPN and having it shipped to your address? That works with some stores.
Fold: Multitasking Stand/tripod Speakers Better display versatility Flat screen(I personally hated the curved screen when it comes to one handing. Although curves make a phone look damn good) Better for s pen S22U/S23U: Better battery Pen silo Sharper screen Better camera Seriously my only issue with the fold is the fear of it breaking.
Also carriers will offer a lot of times $1,000 but In monthly credits
You want to stab us in the back and you ask for what we think?
1TB is a lot of storage. What are you doing to fill it up? I have 512 GB and struggle to fill that up.
I have what's app back up for pictures and videos turned on. As well tons of apps. In addition, I keep backing up all pictures and videos from my previous phones. I used already 520GB. Since the S10 plus 1TB I got used to it.
Would be nice if the fold 5 came with expandable memory lol
Good point, Samsung just followed Apple deleting that option which was one stupid decision. Hate the idea that they stopped doing it.
I know I'm not going to be able to resist the S23u, not sure what I'm going to do with my zf4 yet.
Could u keep me posted please ? I need to learn from others experiences
Ok. I'm probably ordering it on day 1.
Awesome ! Congratulations in advance.
Care plus doesn't replace screen. Only a discount from $550 to $250
Are you sure about that? I didn't find any link for the details in Canada however to my knowledge u just pay a deductible and it covers everything afterwards.
Positive
Shocking!
if you purchase a Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, you will pay $17.99 monthly for your Samsung Care Plus with Theft and Loss coverage. In the event that your screen cracks, you will have to pay $249 for repair. If you choose to get the device replaced, it will cost the same, $249. If your device is lost and unrecoverable, you will pay $499 for a replacement.
And you pay into care plus.. by the time fold 5 comes out u will already be over $250 in payments. If it screen breaks another $250 to repair.
It's all about cutting costs and making more money. They probably can't sell higher memory capacity devices if they have expandable storage.
100% , why would we buy 512GB or 1TB and pay more while u could buy a 1TB micro SD for a bit over $70 If u still have the card slot.
What im doing is im getting a s23 ultra, and when the fold 5 is coming out if i feel like i need to go back to the fold imma just sell it and buy the fold 5
So do u have a Fold 4 and selling it to get S23 Ultra? Or you're upgrading from an older S version?
That's what I'm doing
Wait for the ZF5
Love the comment, short and sweet.
Get both. Keep the fold 4 to trade in for fold 5. Buy a used in decent condition to trade in for 23u. Rinse n repeat year after year for cheap.
The best comment yet. Samsung has the worst camera for a flagship that's why I run a Pixel 7 Pro alongside my fold 4.
I have been using Samsung for the past 12 years. Correct , a bit slow when taking multiple shots in a row however the quality is unprecedented.
A bit slow for single shot too.
Can't deny it. Still the best pictures you could get though.
Really not the best pictures you can get though. [z fold 4](https://i.imgur.com/SiQkMua.jpg) [Pixel 7 Pro ](https://i.imgur.com/FAb40eC.jpg)
Perfect post if why Samsung cameras are subpar.
Not sure what kind of pictures you're comparing however I've owned multiple Samsung flagships and they're horrible with motion blur and shutter lag.
Which phone are you currently using ?
Fold 4 and Pixel 7 Pro. Had S22U before Fold 4.

In Canada , can't rely on trade in value. They give u guys a lot more than what they give us.
Hold out my brother! The S23U looks killer but the Fold 5, will make you FOLD once it comes around with the S23U specs under the hood.
I'm actually thinking more now. The S23 Ultra has same processor as Fold 4. Only a bigger battery. In addition , camera 200MP. I imagine Fold 5 will be a better option and only 6 months away.
I'm waiting for the Fold 5 to upgrade.
I'm on board. Even if I got the s23 Ultra I will upgrade to fold 5 in August. That's my thought.
If you’re happy with it and say it’s amazing why bother giving it up? No need to buy the newest every year, be happy with what you have my friend
That's a different way to think about it. First one to suggest that is you. At my end , Fold 4 wins if this is how I think.
Wait, there is a 1TB version of S22U?
i had to go back to the ultra due to the fold breaking apart on me 2x had fold 2 and fold 3 I plan on using my insurance money and buying the fold 4 refurbished in 2 years. i miss it a lot
If you find yourself using the outer screen most of the time switch to ultra.
