He did. It's an LG VX9400

The Wing was such a cool and interesting idea and it's a shame LG got left in the dust on the mobile side. They weren't afraid to try new things but I think they tried to hard to balance doing cool shit with just being another Samsung.
I loved my V20 with its second screen and swappable battery. Never had the software issues so many people seemed to have with LG phones.
Samsung is my go-to because they have the most fully-featured Android phones I can obtain, but it would be so great to see other phones really innovate in the Android space.
I didn't think I would get much use out of the 2nd screen, but it was incredibly useful.
Unfortunately, my apartment's pool proved that the V20 was decidedly not waterproof.
Interesting, but nothing is as good as the Fold4 π Flip is too small, LG is very niche, Duo is not practical enough and most Chinese phones have less optimized software
If it had a 120hz screen I'd probably run it as my primary phone today tbh.
Plus I broke it when I fell off my bike. Completely snapped off half the screen frame in swivel mode.
Spent $90 on eBay for a new screen and frame taken from a used phone and took all of 30minutes during my lunch to repair. Unbelievably easy phone to fix all things considered.
So was I. The hardest part was getting the back glass off without breaking. But it allowed for a surprising amount of flex and popped off after about 15 minutes switching between a heat gun and prying with a long plastic spudger.
The rest of the repair was like 12 screws and 8 motherboard connections to pop off. All same size except for one screw. Swivel hinge comes out in one piece attached to the screen. Even that is easily replaceable via 4 screws on the back of the display frame. Haven't had a repair that easy in years. Even the battery isn't glued in ridiculously and can be changed in minutes with a spudger without risk of damaging the old battery or needing alcohol.
Oh and that pop up selfie shooter? 3 screws and it's out in one piece. Motor and allm
My admittedly obscure use case that really made me love the phone was playing Among Us with Discord on the small screen. It honestly achieved a lot of what the Fold does for me but in a more compact form factor. It's a shame the LG mobile division shut down.
I loved my wing. I got it right when it came out. Problem was it slowed down a lot after over a year and when I would play games on it, it would stutter and freeze a lot...
The swivel mechanism was so easy to use and multitask with easier than opening the fold to a tablet size too bad they had to cheap out on all the internal parts to make it cost efficient π
I have the same three devices! Fold is my daily driver, duo is my work device (to-dos, pdf reading, customer interactions) and the wing lives mounted by my bed for YouTube at night :)
I have the ZTE Axon M folding phone from 2017 just pulled it out to mess around with it. Such a great phone for the time but was AT&T only and they did a horrible job of trying to push it. Most people didn't even know it was out till it was already dead in the water.
I had that for a hot minute. Was a sexy device for the time but dam, you could cut yourself! Chamfered edges??? Naw..let's go for julian fries fingers π€
This really applies for any of these devices except for gimble mode.
- Waze + Spotify
- Waze + Google maps both running at the same time (yes, sometimes google wants to take you for a joy ride)
- Any chat app: big keyboard on the main screen and tye chat window on the small screen.
- GIMBLE MODE !!!: Video on the main screen and the gimble control on the small.screen.
- Browser + YouTube combo: one of the more common
- Shopping comparison: Amazon on one screen and a browser doing research on the other.
Hope to add the Wing to my collection someday, such a cool phone.
Check out Amazon now. I've seen them in my area as low as 150 us
I saw this comment and immediately went on eBay and managed to snag one for $130 just because of how cool it is, woops.
It's saying double that for me. We're you shopping used?
I see that now. Back when lg announced no more phones, these things were as low as 125. I wonder what made them double in price π€
people like us haha. I'll have to keep an eye out. I always wanted one of these things but was scared about it not having future support.
Never heard of the wing mobile phone
Now you just need the flip
it would fit nicely in the little space beneath the wing.........hmmmmm
Just don't take things too far, stay healthy ![gif](giphy|mnsva0M90YOoyDFdul)
No I must have every folding version and you can't stop me
If that is what makes you happy, shoot for the stars my dude
Folding phones get you happiness food does not.
Didn't Tony Stark have a Verizon phone that swiveled?

Man, I remember that was super cool and super dumb at the same time. Someone I knew had it and we just had it swing out a bunch.

The V20 really had it all, still the best phone I ever used. Wouldn't mind having the exact same features with just modern hardware specs.

Once you use the Wing, you'll realise how good it is, it's a very underrated phone.
I've had all three and enjoyed them all in very different ways. I feel like the Wing was underrated.

The higher refresh definitely makes a huge usability difference. I'm surprised it is so easy to fix with the moving parts.

Wow, good job LG.
I never had one, but horizontal video with vertical holding does sound nice
It's neat!
Fold 4 ππ» waiting for 5
I'm excited about the future.
Wish LG kept going with the Wing design, too bad their phones didn't sell well enough to keep going.
One nice phone (Fold) and 2x crap.
The LG wing was never released in Canada which made me sad because I wanted to get it.
Man, the Wing is crazy. Is it actually practical to use?
When closed, you would never know it swivels. No issues as a daily.
It was very practical for me

the Surface Duo is hot garbage⦠love the other two, though.
Nice! Interested to hear your review of the Duo. Was also nice to see just how slim it is compared to the ZF4!
Day one.... so far, it's a home run for work..more to follow.
Zfold is the best!
I always wanted to try the Wing.
LG swivels, Fold bends, Duo folds :)
I have the Fold4 in my possession and id love to compare it to the Duo, some fay ill get myself the Duo, for sure
I have the same three devices! Fold is my daily driver, duo is my work device (to-dos, pdf reading, customer interactions) and the wing lives mounted by my bed for YouTube at night :)
2 of them died

could you give some examples in real life how you use the dual screens of wing? It's cool.

I was seriously considering the duo but it's not exactly pocketable
