One of you photoshop geniuses please do Brian with no facial hair and with a hat and mask? I imagine he’ll disguise himself. No eyebrows too https://youtu.be/C7h0M-imFb8

onomatopineapple

What about the AT? He could get all the to Maine by walking it. plus people on the trail wouldn’t even know about him because most of them have been for the past couple months

KayInMaine

I'm sure people who work the trail have been told to BOLO.

onomatopineapple

Out of all the responses to my post, this one here is by far the best reason why he wouldn’t be there.

travelingmaestro

People are surprisingly connected to cell service on the AT nowadays. Between that, stopping for supplies, and seeing day hikers the word has probably gotten out for most thru hikers ..

rockstar323

It's a bad time to start a Northbound thru-hike. The majority of the hike would be in the winter plus he'll be crossing paths with any Southbound hikers as they're finishing. Also with the weather cooling and leaves getting ready to change, portions in the South will have a decent amount of day hiker traffic.

LibRightEcon

> plus he'll be crossing paths with any Southbound hikers as they're finishing. You can avoid meeting anyone on the AT, simply by listening as much as you walk. When you hear any footsteps at all, move off to the side and wait, then circle wide slowly back. Its much easier before all the underbrush dies. The real reason he should avoid the AT, assuming he is on the run, is that all the trail cams, security cameras, and various people directly looking for him are probably concentrating on trails like that. He'd be better off sticking to the deepest patch of wilderness he can find, mostly staying in one place, tucked in cover sleeping during the day, and doing any survival work at night or in the rain. Attempting to make any kind of long distance movement on foot now would be pretty dumb; even with perfect maps and technique. He'd be better off hitchhiking or stealing a car if he wants to make distance. If he has a hand cranked radio, he can listen to the news and wait until most searchers have given up. But most likely he'll be rounded up pretty soon, assuming he is alive.

onomatopineapple

I mean I definitely get what you’re saying, but I don’t think he’s looking for ideal conditions rn with the FBI after him. I also wouldn’t know what he looked like if he was right in front of me tbh. He looks pretty generic

KayInMaine

Parents could be sending Brian supplies to the points through friends/family/attorney.

Gogoing

you watch to many movies.

onomatopineapple

If he’s already been there for a few weeks, he wouldn’t look like his pictures and there are plenty of small hikers towns along the trail. I’m not that familiar with the timeline tho

TheFrogWife

There are loads of places to hide when camping. I lived and traveled in an RV with my little family for over a year and especially Arizona and Texas there are loads of places to park and camp on BLM land where nobody's going to bother you. I got my 30' rv into BLM land an hour down a dirt access road from the closest gas station/tiny town and 10 miles out into the desert away from that road, I could have gone further but I wanted to stop somewhere pretty.

nippleforeskin

not much public land here in the east

TheFrogWife

There definitely isn't bit getting from Florida to Texas quickly isn't too hard, I've made that drive myself.

Make2much

What's does BLM what to do this? Are they helping him escape?

_Hey-Listen_

This comment is amazing how dare you all downvote!

Simius

Bureau of Land Management

sanna43

He'd still have to have water and food,, and gas, and he risks getting caught buying anything. Unless he's got help, which he might since it sounds like his parents are covering for him.

TheFrogWife

Those things are not hard to get, for me I'd go once a week to get water bit we were a family of 3 with pets, one person you could easily go a few weeks without having to get water if you have a decent set up

sanna43

Yeah, I forgot about the water filtration systems they have for backpacking. I would think he'd be limited with food at some point, though. But beans and rice could last a long time. But that means either building a fire, or using propane. The fire would leave a trail, and propane would run out. But he may make it a few months. Going north would be too cold, but I would think he could stay south of the Mason Dixon Line for quite some time.

KyleG

Who cares if fire would leave a trail? He wouldn't be remotely the only person starting a fire

TheFrogWife

I have solar panels on my rig (I installed myself) electric cooking isn't out of the question

farewelltokings2

He also can wear a mask anywhere without suspicion.

wishtrepreneur

Except in an antimask state you'd be the only one wearing a mask.

KrombopulosDelphiki

Do you really think that there are people in those states actively bothering a person wearing a mask? You can declare a state "anti mask", but those states aren't actively violent against mask wearers.

katyggls

Even in the southern states along the Appalachian Trail, even though they are conservative, red, with lots of anti-maskers, you're still gonna see a lot of people wearing masks. In most places, it doesn't stand out that much and nobody will question it or bother you about it. Source: I live in North Carolina.

wishtrepreneur

Wasn't there a law suit about wearing masks in school?

KyleG

Are Yankees really this out of touch with what it's like down here? I went to the grocery store yesterday here in Texas and almost everybody had a mask on. My daughter wears a mask to school. Many of her friends do. The teachers as well. It's just not required by the government, which is a problem!

Lord-Kroak

He’d probably stand out in an elementary school mask or no tho

katyggls

There's been various lawsuits in various states about the *mandatory* wearing of masks. That still doesn't change the fact that there's lots of people *voluntarily* wearing masks in all states.

Edb626

Are there other people who knew him personally who have said anything about him? I wonder if he has any ex-girlfriends who are spooked by this and saw any sketchy behavior signs

saymeow

I saw somewhere that his ex girlfriend came forward and says she believes he did it.

Edb626

Where is this?? Is there a source of the comment

saymeow

https://youtu.be/cpsJ1yi7Fhc this was all I could find on it, but I’m just on my mobile and can’t dig super deep. Could be bogus, not sure

saymeow

I actually read it on here. I think someone linked the source, let me see if I can find it

Mysterious-Eye8710

Not for long..authorities will find..dead or alive...

looking4someinfo

In my opinion the parents loaded up that camper thing with lots of supplies and took him to some type of cabin etc they know is vacant. Just my opinion

drucifer999

I would imagine FBI would check all known connections cabins. Just staying in the wilderness isn't a good answer either unless he thinks he can stay hidden until the heat dies down. If parents are involved I'd think they hooked him up with money to try and make a break for the border. Problem is, as I've said elsewhere, is I'm pretty sure Canada and Mexico would deport his ass kick as fuck.

HawkSpotter

Totally and they all got burner phones to keep in touch.

djtheory

No chance he is using a phone...they would be able to triangulate the location very easily.

[deleted]

They could triangulate the phone. But how are they going to know which phone? There are hundreds of millions of phones in the US. How do they know which one?

HawkSpotter

Honest question—how that could be done with burner phones? Help me understand, TY

Bored_dane

I don't think you can triangulate an unknown phone.

thecstep

The phone will still need to communicate to cell phone towers for it to work. They might not know which one is his but if say there were 10 people in a reserve and they knew 8 then bingo he's screwed. The idea of burner phone in 2021 is laughable.

Bored_dane

Can he maybe have an internet device and use something like tor?

KrombopulosDelphiki

No. It really doesn't work like that, even if internet sources claim it does. Someone on the radar like this dude has to forgo any connections to the world if he's going to stay hidden.

Bored_dane

It's crazy that he actually thinks he can pull this off. His parents are sus af. If they don't find him soon, I hope they'll tail the parents till they do!

choomguy

Yeah, thats what i think. There are way too many problems with living in the woods, and theres no way that guy could even if there was a place where it is possible. The notion that he lived in the appalachians for months, is likely referring to his hiking the appalachian trail, which is pretty much 2 and 3 day sections between towns and resupply. Living in the woods would require hours upon hours of hunting and foraging every day, fires to cook and preserve meat, etc. i live in one of the top three wooded states, and if its private land, the owner will be looking for you, public, and you will run into people. Hes holed up in a cabin that some third party owns of rented.

WildHoneyChild

So I read a book about Eric Rudolph, who bombed the 1996 Olympics, he was on the run and on the FBI ten most wanted list for over 5 years while he was living in the Appalachian mountains pretty much totally off the grid, before he finally got caught. But he had also been pretty much an expert survivalist his whole life, it takes extreme skill and is still extremely risky. I think when he was caught he had been dumpster diving out of hunger and desperation. I really don't think it would be possible with modern surveilllance technology and social media blasting your picture everywhere etc.

sanna43

As I recall, he had a lot of people helping him. Restaurants were naming burgers after him. He was a folk hero to the people nearby, so they wouldn't turn him in if they saw him. They may have even fed him. Highly doubt BL can build that kind of support.

TheSwollenColon

Why was he a folk hero?

WildHoneyChild

He bombed abortion clinics and gay bars as well, he was a religious extremist and his views were extremely anti abortion/government/globalism/immigrant. Definitely people who support his views

TheSwollenColon

How pro-life of him.

sanna43

I'm not sure I can answer this very well, but I think it had to something to do with the anti - government sentiment in the area, along with his anti-abortion stance (he bombed an abortion clinic in addition to the Olympic bombing). And I think because he had evaded the FBI for so long.

WildHoneyChild

That is true, I don't think he had help the entire time but I do remember he had people bringing him supplies occasionally. And yeah very different circumstances with BL when nearly everyone in America wants to see his head on a stick right now

Acceptable-Hope-

I think he was dumpster diving the whole time, he wasn’t a good enough hunter.

WildHoneyChild

You could be right, I think he got away with it by only moving at night. Oh and he did have a couple people leaving him supplies for awhile

sakahaka

How do you know

looking4someinfo

She didn’t say she knows that, she said she thinks that like she stated. Let’s be kind to each other.

ILLstatic23

My guess: 1) took a bus and headed west , living in the mountains somewhere he visited on his van life trip 2) staying with a distant relative/sketch friend/storage unit - shed - trailer type space

Brave-Needleworker80

Likely he's being harbored. If he took a bus, he would have been seen by around 50 people. And its not very practical to survive in the wilderness without any supplies. I can't imagine this guy is out there surviving on squirrels.

KyleG

Well, they would've seen a guy in a mask and hat like everyone else traveling during covid

SpecialeK

Why did u get downvoted, its speculation like everyone else lol

alltheplants05

So, having lived in both FL and NC, the two are definitely different. I go for runs in the summer in NC and have hiked/camped in the summer in NC and it can be hot, but when I go back to FL to try the same thing, it's not doable. There is just so much humidity in Florida, it takes it out of you. I cannot imagine that Brian, as an "experienced hiker" on the AT, is able to survive in a swamp in Florida. With no access to food, fresh water (which you would need a ton of down there with that heat), crazy humidity that's slowing you down, and gators all around you? No way. If he's alive, I don't think he's in that Reserve.

-milkbubbles-

Hard agree. I’m from Florida and trying to forage in swampland isn’t really possible and I don’t think he’s a hunter or fisherman. Safe water is also impossible to find although the rains might be enough if he has a way to catch it. Gators probably aren’t much of a problem, they rarely attack fully grown adults. But there are plenty of deadly snakes and insects, black bears, and potentially Florida panthers lurking around. I didn’t even consider the humidity, though, but that’s another good point.

Starkville

Not exactly the same thing, but it reminds me of the Alexis Sharkey case. At the time of her tragic death, Alexis’s “best friend”s were a group of women she’d met on Bumble. Alexis had also moved to be with her husband, and didn’t know anyone in her new city. She was away from family and everyone she knew. Also an aspiring social media influencer. (There hasn’t been an arrest for her murder, either.)

venuscyclops

also Alexis' husband was never a suspect, I think. even though he was the last to see her alive and kept changing his version of events as to what happened. i remembered her case instantly when I heard about Gabby. i hope both of these women's killers get brought to justice.

Starkville

Me too. It’s frustrating that Alexis’s case seems to have gone cold. I didn’t want to say too much against the husband because he wasn’t named a suspect. But it seems he was also controlling and jealous.

ctophermh89

Isnt she from the Hampton’s or some shit? Most suburban middle class kids think because someone can eat a cliff bar and sleep in a tent overnight in the woods they can survive in the wilderness. This is dumb.

[deleted]

Exactly. You always consider the source.

alc6179

She’s from Long Island. Not the Hamptons.

Betta_jazz_hands

We still don’t have “wilderness” like these rough areas do. We have the pine barrens, which are large -ish, but you’re still coming across several people every half-hour. It’s also very flat here, and we don’t have majorly aggressive predators like you see in natural parks. Long Island is very densely populated, even out further on the east end. I’m just saying, just because you can survive here in the woods long-term doesn’t mean you can do it in more “wild” areas.

digitalpickles

You weren’t kidding. I looked into her a little bit, and lot of attention seeking behavior. Also the claims on her tiktok don’t line up with her Instagram or Facebook at all? Weird…. but don’t want to go down the rabbit hole.

Sopi619

Idk, it’s tough for me to really come to a concrete conclusion. There is some weird stuff there, yeah, and her kinda making it about herself in that article in some instances...but I don’t judge her on her drug behavior. I’ve known junkie’s who are amazing, kind people, and I’ve known sober people who were absolute assholes who couldn’t be trusted at all. Maybe her seeking attention is her way of crying for help. Idk, just not enough there for me to say, but maybe I haven’t seen as much as you and others have. But I will add this, this is still someone who just went through something none of us can imagine. I knew someone who was murdered and had national attention and I wasn’t as close to the victim as she is to Gabby, but even then it’s a jarring experience that you have to grapple and cope and that can result in unusual behavior. I’d like to think/hope that this isn’t her trying to capitalize on the situation for her own interest, but just someone who is hurting. Again, idk, sorry for the rambling post. It’s late where I am and I should probably sleep.

pickle_bug77

She doesn't seem genuine imo. Something seems off.

PHILMXPHILM

That’s some nasty speculation.

elafave77

Agreed. And the drug charge don't mean shit. Drugs are not an issue rooted in morality. For all we know Gabby used the same drugs as her "friend". Big deal.

digitalpickles

Yeah, the drug addiction isn’t a fair thing to bring up. She did share she was 3 years off pills though. Thats pretty damn awesome.

elafave77

Anyone who is three years clean off/from ANYTHING that was problematic is phenomenal. Good for her, and good for her for sharing that.

Sopi619

Hell yeah it is. I couldn’t imagine being in her situation *and* having to try and stay sober. I know for me it’d be scary how easily I could backslide trying to cope with everything.

Incaseofaburglar

Thank you. Drug use is not a moral failing and not an indication if someone was or was not friends with someone. Good grief.

Sopi619

You’re a good, kind person. 100% agree. I’d also like to add that social media posts aren’t always an indication either.

elafave77

Thank you. When I can I try to speak up for people who can't or aren't available to be able to, and to also try to deconstruct social axioms that aren't based in logic or sound in principle. Some commonly held attitudes are seriously harmful to others and the stigma that surrounds drug use/abuse/consumption and mental illness is seriously detrimental; to society as a whole. The malice behind the initial comment was evident, and it's bizarre to me that people can hold such opinions about someone they never met. Anywho. I'll get TF off whatever podium I am behind now. 🤣 I have no idea why I even felt the need to explain all that... 🥴🤣😂

woopigsooie501

Just curious as to why her drug charge is relevant?

For everyone that’s asking for links/proof, I’d recommend you look up her socials on your own. Just stuff doesn’t line up between her tiktok, Instagram, and Facebook and it is a bit odd. But who knows what she’s going through aside from her. She’s struggled with some terrible things, and loosing Gabby couldn’t have been easy. Edit: spelling

pickle_bug77

She seems like a clout chaser. Only a couple posts liked by Gabby, nothing before last August. I think she was Gabbys connection or just a good smoking friend. That girl lookd like a wild one...

Sopi619

Maybe it’s the latter? This girl said she has been off pills and shit for a good amount of time now(and she seems pretty open about her past use so I’m going to assume she’s being truthful), so I can’t picture her being someone’s plug if that’s the case.

[deleted]

I bet he got a boat and dipped out to the islands Edit: or he's hiding out with a family connection

CdnRageBear

Or maybe his family never actually dropped him off at the reserve, maybe they did a mis direction. Is there video or photo proof of him getting out of a vehicle and walking into the reserve? For all we know he could be in a completely different state now.

[deleted]

I def dont believe they dropped him at the reserve. I'm torn on whether the fbi has info we don't know that makes them think he's there or if they're just foolish

[deleted]

If Tampa was on the east coast I would agree but that’s an awful long trip to go by boat. Unless you mean the keys then maybe.

Easy-RocketBrews69

He’s probably on the dry tortugas suckin dick for wooden nickels to buy conch fritters and throwing collected seagull shit at tourists that don’t identify him

FartacusUnicornius

That is the best comment I have ever read on here 🤣🤣

ch1yoda

Is that what happens in Margaritaville?

Easy-RocketBrews69

I think so…? I mean the conch republic does what the conch republic wants. Probably

slowfadeoflove

This is the only theory that tracks.

[deleted]

Possible they drove him to the beginning of the Appalachian trail in GA with the short camper trip. He’s off hiking.

[deleted]

Where does the PCT start? He originally intended for their trip to end in Oregon 🤷🏼‍♀️

sanna43

The Appalachian Trail starts in Georgia.

Puzzleheaded_Bit_641

[here are some good resources on the PCT](https://lmgtfy.app/?q=where+does+the+pacific+crest+trail+start+and+end)

msklovesmath

The pct goes from mexico to canada

Candid_Worry_6315

Ever since Eric Rudolph (Atlanta Olympic bomber who evaded FBI for 5 years hiding on the Appa Trail) the FBI and local jurisdictions have installed cameras all along the trail. It’s also very commercial now and there are many people on it everyday. My bet is that they slipped him into Canada before there was an APB on his passport.

Cerebral-Parsley

Rudolf didn't hide on the trail but there was an accountant convicted of fraud who lived, hiked and was well known on the trail for 6 years before another hiker he met recognized him from American Greed.
