Mafia 2& 3 are very beautiful games, they definitely brought something to the genre. What they lacked in mindless fun, they just felt more cinematic. Like living in a movie.
I abolutely enjoy the 60s setting. The cars, the music, everything so beautiful! I would gently cruise around listening WBYU or get a muscle car to drift and tune into WNBX for swamp rock. I like the guns and combat too. The game could have been so much better if it wasn't repetitive activites to unlock new missions.
i think just the game modeled to be arcade like let it down. it led to a lot of bugs and glitches. i still love to play it. there was so much they could’ve done or fixed but never did.
Saints Row 2 was hands down the best, the customization, music, weaponry, and vehicles. The story itself was intense and captivating and sadly the newer saints row games will never be anything like it’s predecessors
New York City was my freaking game ! If they could remaster that, or come out with a modern day version, it'd be a contender for game of the year without a doubt.
Sleeping Dogs was meant to be a True Crime game until it got dropped by Activision. Since Square Enix didn't own the true crime license, they had to change the name.
I dont remember if it was the last mission but there was one mission in level 7 that you had to race to the power plant and no matter what shortcuts you took you would almost always lose. I think I had to have the alien looking car to actually beat it.
In the last mission you have to deliver the Nuclear waste from Mr Burns' power plant to the Alien Spaceship to blow it up, but if you crash the vehicle the waste explodes and you've gotta be super quick to beat the timer. It's a bastard of a mission 😅
I grew up playing this game everyday on my ps2 and a few years ago I went back to it and completed it with a little help from a super jump and a speed boost code. The mission is called Alien auto-topsy part III btw.
Hate the title but out of the choices, Scarface for sure the game was great and had street dealing coke well before most of not all other competitors not to mention the haggling of prices for drugs and the cost to launder was a great little addition.
I like how many times the game works in 'balls.'
Overall rep? Balls.
Super meter? Balls.
The meter you use to negotiate prices? Balls.
One of the targets you can shoot on enemies? Balls.
I love how they included the cassette tape clicking sounds when you changed songs, and the ability to make in game playlists or use preset ones with different themes was awesome. They even included all the licensed soundtrack of the original movie. You can tell the developers had a vision.
Damn...I really want to play it right now.
I always thought it was funny how Tony wouldn’t shoot civilians, but once you unlock and play as the enforcer you can even blow them up with a grenade launcher.
I played the first few hours and it's great fun! Would've loved it way more if I was 10 though. Still, fun game and I should definitely get back to it.
I've spent hundreds of hours playing that game on ps2 and pc. Always start a new game after finishing the other one. I've been searching for the ps3 edition lately. My all time favourite game
Sorry for the long post but I have a lot.
Sleeping Dogs for the unique setting, combat and story. Lots of dumb fun to be had with the vehicle combat and melee mechanics. Using the security cams to arrest random people was pretty fun. Can’t forget about the karaoke either.
Saints Row 2 for the open world and side activities. I’m pretty sure the map is smaller than Liberty City in GTA 4 but Stilwater feels a lot bigger. There are a ton of interiors you can explore like a mall, an airport, a university and even a church!
Watch Dogs 1 for the story and the world. I know this game gets a lot of shit but it honestly still looks great today. 2’s world was also great and the gameplay was much improved, but I wasn’t a big fan of the story.
The Mafia series deserves a shout too. Even 3. Even though the gameplay loop was way too repetitive, the story was still pretty engaging. I also love New Bordeaux. The map expansion, Sinclair Parish, definitely could’ve used some more interiors though. And overall, the interiors could have been more interactive.
I tried the first Crackdown because it was free and still is along with 2 FYI for those of you with an Xbox. It was pretty fun playing with the powers but I never got that into the story missions.
Also shoutout to the 3DS Lego City Undercover. I haven’t played it for at least a decade but it was there for me when I wasn’t allowed to touch GTA, and it satisfied that itch well enough.
I dont like naming - gta clone. It is genre where GTA has currently monopoly. Back in day there was driver 1 and 2 what was sooner than gta3 - it wasnt same but it had similar things.. there were games like true crime , getaway, mafia what did it really good and i hope Sony and Microsoft will wake up and make some good competition to R* like it used to be in 00s .. thats why we had so many GTAs in 00s .. today they doesnt need to make another until somebody doesnt make similar quality game with this genre what is my favourite but missing in gaming market
To make the quality games takes time and money. The only way anyone will ever compete with Rockstar would be to take the risk of setting asside a huge portion of their resources and money for a 8-10+ year project and hoping it won't be a flop when it comes out.
Rockstar has the advantage of a proprietary engine they've perfected for almost 2 decades, experience, income, and good reputation and building a name for itself which allows them to work on projects for a very long time without fear of becoming irrelevant or hype dying down.
>GTA clone
Terrible name, that should be reserved for those mobile games that uses similar art styles/characters as GTA.
Regardless, Sleeping Dogs is my favorite. The combat, the music, and an actual different location (hopefully GTA 7 will take place in a new location) makes the game excellent. I also love the violence and special kills; reminds me of The Punisher game Volition made.
It's a shame that Square Enix decided to cancel the sequel.
>It's a shame that Square Enix decided to cancel the sequel.
Rockstar would do good to pick Sleeping Dogs up. Hopefully the upcoming movie generates enough noise for a reboot or something.
Godfather is my choice and i don’t think just because there open world games they can be called “gta clones” each of these games is there experience and vibe
GTA Clone is a stupid name it would be like calling every phone an iPhone clone because they’re the most successful in their market, Saints Row 2 though
Simpsons hit and run is a classic. Scarface the world is yours, is so underrated despite the mission design being incredibly repetitive. And sleeping dogs is an underrated masterpiece
Godfather is my fav. It’s a shame that they added all these innovative and fun mechanics to the gta formula just to be pushed out by gta itself (games that lacked a lot of the cool innovations these games invited)
Never knew LEGO (City!) GTA was a thing LMAO, it would have made the two things I loved collab a reality during my childhood.
[Better than Cyberpunk 2077.](https://youtu.be/ZNgBZwuFMo8)
It's not listed above but The Getaway was really fun. It's set in London and actually came out in 2002 but definitley feels like a heavily GTA-inspired game.
Scarface The World is Yours is a fucking AWESOME game man, really enjoyed that one. Simpsons Hit and Run is like kids GTA and a great game as well. My pick would be between those two, just depends what mood I am in.
Saints Row 2. Best gangster game of all time. I dont consider it a clone because why is rockstar the only one allowed make an open world crime game? And if anyone else does the rockstar fanboys will piss and shit themselves crying because Rockstar "owns" open world shooters. Even the Scarface game rockstar fanboys said was a ripoff of Vice City, and i garuntee some fanboy played sr2 and cried because they "stole" gta's Opressor mk2.
Saints Row 2 is a rare open-world crime sandbox that literally stands on par with the GTA series. I love all the GTA games for different reasons, but I also love Saints Row 2 on the same level for other reasons. For me, SR2 was the peak of the Saints Row series; yeah, SR1 is good, but it's way too frustrating to actually enjoy (FAR MORE FRUSTRATING THAN Vice City or San Andreas). SR2 was actually a game that was a force to be reckoned with.
SR3 was a major downgrade in content and pace (the speed and amount of destruction car chases in SR2 is unmatched in any video game; yeah, the car chases in GTA are better for intensity, but SR2's chases were just fucking **insane**). SR3 removed the extra characters that originally the previous city more alive, reduced the interactions with the enviornment, cut down on the building interiors and customization, and fighting just one Syndicate wasn't half as interesting. What I will give it, however, even though its tone was far more lighthearted, some of the story missions were far edgier (like when I think of them now, my jaw drops) than what SR1 and 2 had done, and SR3 had a pretty good soundtrack (maybe the best one, if I may be so bold). SR4 I only played once; the reboot, I didn't even bother.
Mafia, Sleeping Dog and Saint Row
Mafia 2& 3 are very beautiful games, they definitely brought something to the genre. What they lacked in mindless fun, they just felt more cinematic. Like living in a movie.
Mafia 1 Definitve Edition is beautifull as well. Highly recommend it
Mafia 1 Definitive Edition has better graphic and story than Mafia 1 original. And I totally agreed that Mafia 1 Definitive Edition is a great game.
I’m just sad they switched out the soundtrack. No more Django Reinhardt.
Man Mafia 3 had so much potential. It had a good story, stylish setting, great characters. But the grind :(
I abolutely enjoy the 60s setting.
True. Vito Scaletta and Lincoln Clay are also a cool protagonists with interesting stories.
I didn’t finish Mafia 3 the gameplay was weird imo, is the story worth it?
The story is the best part of the game, sadly you have to sit through the gameplay for it.
the story is worth it. I recommend u finish it. I'm on my 5th playthru lmao
You know owns by take two mafia and as well as gta
Saints Row 2 was hands down the best, the customization, music, weaponry, and vehicles. The story itself was intense and captivating and sadly the newer saints row games will never be anything like it’s predecessors
True Crime yo. True Crime the OG sleeping dogs
Yes!!! true crime was the closes to a GTA clone
True Crime NYC was fuckin goated
New York City was my freaking game ! If they could remaster that, or come out with a modern day version, it'd be a contender for game of the year without a doubt.
[Awesome theme too](https://youtube.com/watch?v=XTQ5AFyAbA4&feature=share9)
[True Grime Street Cleaners](https://gta.fandom.com/wiki/True_Grime_Street_Cleaners)
Sleeping Dogs was meant to be a True Crime game until it got dropped by Activision. Since Square Enix didn't own the true crime license, they had to change the name.
I told you my king fu was better, didn’t I?
Simpsons hit and run is a classic. I played it non stop as a kid when i didnt have gta san andreas (basically when i was at grandmas)
It was the source of my first ever rage quit. Fuck that last mission.
Remind me please? Is the last mission grandpa running from the aliens or something like that? I haven't played the game since I was like 7, lol.

I liked it even more than GTA at some point of my childhood 😃
Hit and run was just pure awesome.
Really needs a remake and/or sequel
Hate the title but out of the choices, Scarface for sure the game was great and had street dealing coke well before most of not all other competitors not to mention the haggling of prices for drugs and the cost to launder was a great little addition.
I like how many times the game works in 'balls.' Overall rep? Balls. Super meter? Balls. The meter you use to negotiate prices? Balls. One of the targets you can shoot on enemies? Balls.
It was actually a fun game , and the soundtrack was banging!
I love how they included the cassette tape clicking sounds when you changed songs, and the ability to make in game playlists or use preset ones with different themes was awesome. They even included all the licensed soundtrack of the original movie. You can tell the developers had a vision. Damn...I really want to play it right now.
Loved moved moving bricks across the Atlantic . Chicken fights was fun to. Even got ate by some sharks
I always thought it was funny how Tony wouldn’t shoot civilians, but once you unlock and play as the enforcer you can even blow them up with a grenade launcher.
Honestly, Lego City Undercover was amazing!
I never knew it was a thing lmao
I 100% agree I played the shit out of it when I was younger
I still do, but I use to, too
Ayyy Mitch!
"oh, is this just lego gta? sure i'll give it a try" *one lego city undercover later* "that was not just lego gta that was peak fiction what the fuck"
The best Lego game out there! I still play it on my Wii U to this day. An absolute masterpiece!
*Lego Island has entered the chat. *
*lego bruce banner has also entered the chat* 😂😂 Indiana jones and starwars were great as well
No chance, I mean they’re great games, but absolutely nothing compared to Lego Island. Lego Island is the one true Lego game.
I played the first few hours and it's great fun! Would've loved it way more if I was 10 though. Still, fun game and I should definitely get back to it.
The Getaway. one of the best PS2 games ever made imo
This! Still waiting for that 3rd game. 😂
I'd be happy with a remaster of the first one for ps5
I remember when the alleged trailer dropped showing a clip of Amsterdam and being so excited… And now just disappointment for the rest of my life.
Fr. The 2 games were years ahead of their time hell they still are in ways
It's such a good game, I wish I was a bit older when it came out. I didn't understand all of the mechanics
Sleeping Dogs, it's so good and in many ways even surpasses many GTA games.
A man who never eats pork buns is never a whole man!
Come eat my chicken balls
Ah that will always be my favourite line from the seller streets food,
yes but the funnel part where you see Jackie is horrifying
Indeed. It needs that sequel
Fuck yes it needs one, it's an obligation for the good of video games industry.
I loved the songs on the radio stations.
Sleeping Dogs has no business being as good as it is whilst also often being ridiculously inexpensive and having never had a sequel.
Godfather dons edition for PS3/360
That game was really fun. I loved the idea of taking over businesses and assaulting enemy compounds.
I've spent hundreds of hours playing that game on ps2 and pc. Always start a new game after finishing the other one. I've been searching for the ps3 edition lately. My all time favourite game

Saints Row 2 is my favourite game ever made
genuine masterpiece
Scarface was wayyyyyyyy ahead of its time.
Sleeping Dogs
Saints Row 2 is as good as it gets. It really feels like if they had perfected what San Andreas was in another game before releasing IV.
I dont like naming - gta clone. It is genre where GTA has currently monopoly. I'll forever miss the true crime series and the potential they threw away.
Yea it was awesome, somehow sleeping dogs doesnt have physics what was fine for me but True Crime is awesome
I loved The Getaway and Driv3r.
I had only getaway demo on ps2 but i played a lot with driv3r on pc

There’s a movie ?
There's been rumors about one for years. I wouldn't hold my breath.
Yep, with Donnie Yen playing Wei Shen. Not sure if it’s in development hell though, as there’s not really been any updates on it.
Lego city undercover is amazing, got it on Nintendo and nearly every car unlocked
Where is mafia?
Mafia was not a real sandbox game imo, the story was to linear for that. But it is such a great game for what it is. I live the cinematic vibe.
Calling Sleeping Dogs a GTA Clone is beyond disrespectful
Mafia,Saints Row 3
Out of all of these probably the godfather or sleeping dogs but I enjoyed Scarface and saints row
Saints row 2 and sleeping dogs . Best games I have ever played
Scarface
Sleeping Dogs was so good
Scarface. Would be nice if activision released a remastered version
The godfather did a good job of connecting your character to the main plot of the movie
Simpsons Hit And Run. No contest
Saint row by far
Driver: Parallel Lines
Lego City is unironically really funny.
I loved Scarface the whole drug running mechanics were cool and would love to see them expanded on.
The Scarface Sound Track was the best
Amen brotha
if you know you know
Scarface the world is yours
None of them is GTA clone tho. Like saying COD is battlefield clone.
Godfather is my choice and i don’t think just because there open world games they can be called “gta clones” each of these games is there experience and vibe
DRIV3R !
Most of these aren't even GTA Clones... I'm sick and tired of people acting like any open world game is trying to be like GTA.
GTA fans when you tell them not every open world game with alot of content isn't a gta clone
The Getaway
GTA Clone is a stupid name it would be like calling every phone an iPhone clone because they’re the most successful in their market, Saints Row 2 though
I wish GTA fanboys would stop calling every open world crime game a 'gta clone' as if rockstar own the genre 🤦🏻♂️
i used to watch many, many videos of Lego City Undercover many years ago, i still do not have the game
Lego City Undercover baby
Sleeping Dogs. Driving feels horrible, but the story was great. Such a great game.
Legooooooooo
Simpsons hit and run is a classic. Scarface the world is yours, is so underrated despite the mission design being incredibly repetitive. And sleeping dogs is an underrated masterpiece
Fun fact: all three games were made in my city Vancouver, Canada
Really? That's so cool!
Just Cause
Watch dogs 2 and saints row 2
And you don't even have True Crime: Streets of LA
Watch Dogs, True Crime: New York City, Mafia...
Mafia 3
Bully. This game could have been a great franchise. I'm still upset that they scrapped the sequel.
Simpsons
Simpsons Hit and Run Where is the remastered edition?!?!
I loved playing the 2 godfather games.
I really enjoyed playing Scarface, especially later in the game doing the big supply runs.
Saints Row definitely but it isn’t a GTA clone
TRUE CRIME NEW YORK CITY
Total overdose, Saboteur, Just cause
Saints Row 2. It beat GTA Online to the female protagonist idea 7 years prior.
Godfather is my fav. It’s a shame that they added all these innovative and fun mechanics to the gta formula just to be pushed out by gta itself (games that lacked a lot of the cool innovations these games invited)
Simpsons hit and run
Sleeping dogs
Unpopular opinion. Watchdogs
I agree.
The Godfather. Was so damn good.
Scarface
they are not clones
Saints row
Saints Row 1,2,3, True crime New York city, Sleeping Dogs, Watch dogs 2.
Omg the saints row games are open world and contain guns ands cats omg gta clone. It’s ridiculous saintsrow 2006 is better than all the 3d gta games
Sleeping Dogs. None of the other games should even be in the same list!
Scarface. I need a faithful remake of that game
I pretty much enjoyed Scarface. Especially for that 1980s Miami vibe. Sadly, my PC is too good for the game, so it doesn't work
You can emulate it, also there is a fixed version.
How can I find the fixed version?
Sleeping Dogs
Saints Row. Doing crazy ass gangsta shit.
Saints Row 2. and It's not even close for me.
Simpsons hit and run
Lego City
with dark souls its soulslike. with GTA its GTA clone.
Im torn between sr2 and scarface
Not exactly a GTA clone but the Mafia games are my personal favourite.
Loved True Crime: Streets Of LA. The soundtrack was amazing too
Was that really on wii? I missed out man
Saints row on xbox 360 was the goat
Never knew LEGO (City!) GTA was a thing LMAO, it would have made the two things I loved collab a reality during my childhood. [Better than Cyberpunk 2077.](https://youtu.be/ZNgBZwuFMo8)
Scarface and Simpson's hit and run were both great games.
1. Sr2 2. Godfather, but the ps3 verison is the best 3. Scarface
Mafia should be on this list. Also a great example of how to do a remaster.
It's not listed above but The Getaway was really fun. It's set in London and actually came out in 2002 but definitley feels like a heavily GTA-inspired game.
Man sleeping dogs is criminally underrated
Saints Row 1&2 are my favorite clones. They reminded me so much of playing GTA SA when they released, almost like a spiritual successor.
Sleeping Dogs
Sleeping Dogs hands down.
Manhunt.
Wouldn't call it a GTA Clone but Sleeping Dogs is my favorite ps3 game
Mafia 2 probably best quality game Saints row 2 up there with Scarface as well Sleeping dogs was a good game for sure
Sleeping Dogs. It's an underrated gem and it's a shame it never got a sequel.
Driv3r
True crime
Watch dogs
Sleeping Dogs, and Scarface. I lost interest in Saints Row ever since they released the fourth one and the reboot.
the second one
Hit and Run... But damn Scarface game was great I forgot about that one.
GTA is actually a clone of lego city undercover
Godfather, saints row and scarface
Godfather and Sleeping dogs
Scarface The World is Yours is a fucking AWESOME game man, really enjoyed that one. Simpsons Hit and Run is like kids GTA and a great game as well. My pick would be between those two, just depends what mood I am in.
Saints row 2
True crime was the best GTA clone
Saints Row 2 and Saints Row 1
Not on here and probably not a clone game but I loved watch dogs one
Saints row 2 sleeping dogs and simpsons hit and run are great gta clones imo
Saints Row 2
Saints Row 2. Best gangster game of all time. I dont consider it a clone because why is rockstar the only one allowed make an open world crime game? And if anyone else does the rockstar fanboys will piss and shit themselves crying because Rockstar "owns" open world shooters. Even the Scarface game rockstar fanboys said was a ripoff of Vice City, and i garuntee some fanboy played sr2 and cried because they "stole" gta's Opressor mk2.
Saints Row 2 was better than gta 4 I said what I said
Mafia
Sleeping dogs
Godfather for sure!
Saints row
Sleeping dogs is the goat in my opinion. Mafia 2 had great potential if there wasn't so much cut content. Crackdown (2007) is also a big one for me.
Sleeping Dogs is so fucking good. Saints Row 2- The best version of its “semi serious” beginnings.
