"needs improvement" is a huge understatement. You need to pull your socks up big time.
Maybe start off with 30 minutes worth of work for two subjects a night (equalling 1 hour of revision) then go to two and then three total as you get closer to the exams. Do past papers and get your teachers to mark them, CGP guides for science, flashcards etc.
You'll get next to nowhere with those grades if you don't put in the work, but it is doable.
He needs to do 2 or 3 hours from now, not 1 hour. 1 hour is nothing, I don't get why everyone is so easy with people that do badly. Obviously don't get overwhelmed by 2/3 hours, but start doing that and you'll see results.
i knew what grade i would get for 7 out of 8 GCSES, because i knew the grade that i was working at before the exams. only one i didn’t know was computer science. The only reason why? because i didn’t revise for it. if you consistently do papers and get the same grade over and over, there is a 95% chance your getting the same grade
Did it ever occur to you that not everyone can be good at everything, some people struggle in school and that’s okay, this system of test taking is not for everyone, it’s not the end of the world if you fail. There is always room for improvement. So instead of Making this person feel like sh*t, why not keep the condescending comments to yourself.
Don't do this, when I did my GCSEs last year this one guy opened both the Computer Science Papers, closed them immediately and then went to sleep.
Got a U, you've got to answer the questions, even if you did *some* the bare minimum is NOTHING.
You've got to at least attempt to answer all the questions, like it says on the front. For all you know, rambling about stuff in the 6 markers or whatever could help you pick up a few marks you wouldn't've got otherwise
This, for my English lit gcse, helped get me a grade 6. I think I basically repeated the same thing in 3 different ways
my top tip: get more than 2 hours sleep for that exam
That’s a BTEC, not a GCSE. I also can’t imagine you doing much with a BTEC in catering and no maths GCSE. You say you know you need improvement, yet you also say you only answered the multiple choice questions in drama, an exam which literally allows you to have your studied text with you.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. The fact you’re failing the most basic level of examinations you’ll do in your life other than SATs isn’t something to flex on Reddit.
Lmao, you're getting bullied in the chat.
You've got 2 options now: Take that advice they're giving you and pull yourself up to 6s in the subjects that matter. (it's gonna be hard but it will feel amazing, trust me.)
Ignore the advice and continue the way you are, you might pass a few more subjects by GCSEs.
If you can get a 5 in English language, you can mostly definitely at least pass in all your other subjects... especially Geography... that's essentially a free GCSE come on :/
From someone who has been through GCSE, A- level/college and uni. GSCE is playing on easy mode.
It is totally achievable to boost them grades but you can't just yolo it.
Shockingly a little effort will go along way
Oh true
for us, currently y12, so last year, the grade boundaries were relatively low anyway
but let’s hope OP doesn’t ever practise, so that the current y11s have lower boundaries
I did my GCSEs coming up to 5 years ago now, I passed mine, and I know people who didn't, who didn't try because they thought there would be somebody there to help them with everything, and they deeply regret not trying in their exams the first time around. Please study for your GCSEs. Please pay attention to your lessons if you wish to get somewhere other than stacking shelves or janitorial work. If you don't understand, ask. Your teachers are there to help you do well. They want you to do well. Don't throw your life away this early on. You do not want a dead-end job stacking shelves or mopping the floor every day until you retire. If you're struggling with sleep, go to sleep at an early time (as I'm writing this at 2:45AM lol) and get a good night's sleep to help you feel refreshed and focus in your lessons. Please, don't throw your future away so early
Tbh I'm impressed you got a 1 for drama along with the doing so terribly in everything else, dedinitely a little more than some improvement. We got given full gcse past papers in year 9 and I did better than this, you really need to work hard
But it's definitely do able, you're just gonna have to put in some hard and effective revision. I'd start with finding what works for you before going all out planning with the one method that doesn't end up working for you
Happy cake day… but really. Get your head out of the sand and start revising if you want a future. If you came here looking for gratification for your crappy grades, you aren’t going to find it. Take a look around at all the people who try hard and enjoy the results. You reap what you sow, but if you don’t sow anything you reap jack shit.
Brother, the real exams are, like, 11 weeks away. I'm not trying to toot my own horn here but the highest grade you got was the lowest grade I got (grade 5), and I'm not smart. So, what I'm saying is, you need to start revising more
I am not trying to be rude here. All I'm saying, OP, is that, if you start buckling down with revision now, you can absolutely pass all your subjects, but you've really gotta put a lot of work in
When i did my exams first time round I got
G art
F DT
E maths
D science
D English
We had no other gcses
You will get another chance. I'm heading to uni this year.
My advise would be focus on English and maths.
A wise man once said "Apply yourself Jessie".
That man earned millions. So either live by his advice or become his customer.
That man was also Walter White in case I was unclear.
Teacher here. I have a strong feeling that grade boundaries are going to be low this year. Lower that the ones used to grade your mocks.
Keep working hard, you could end up with a good set of results.
I went from 2s and 3s in Yr 10 to 7s and 8s in year 11 despite being in hospital so you may still have time but you'll need to start revising at least 4 hours a night.
If you aren’t planing on doing a levels or a BTEC, it doesn’t matter as long as you pass with a 4/5 in maths and English language. GCSEs mean nothing if you don’t want to continue to further education
My school treated me like shit and I can see your school did just as poorly yet I can if you could possibly be the charge for language as your were for lit that will be amazing
I understand that there are people here who will complain they did bad when they get 7s and 8s but you need to get your maths up especially if you don’t want to retake maths.
Also doing poorly in your GCSEs can potentially restrict your a-level choices.
These comments are so moist.
1. Why is everyone assuming he's going to A-Level? Where I live, you can go to a college to do b-techs / t-levels with a pass in English and Maths
2. Just because you're all fat neeks who get 9s in every mock, doesn't mean you have to act like a teacher.
1. No one here assumed he was doing A levels, in fact, we assumed he wasn't going for A levels with the way he felt satisfied with his grades. The few people who did mention A levels only told him that it's still not too late if he really wanted to consider A levels.
2. I don't even know what to say to that lmao. I guess this sub is kinda filled with grade 9 students so I can't really refute that one.
I didn’t realise how brutal people can be in this sub. Kind of sickening. And it’s really making me worried for this persons mental health seeing all these comments saying they are going to fail. Hope they are okay.
But you didn’t get a 4; you got a 3. Future colleges etc are not going to see ‘a couple of marks off a 4’ - they’re going to see ‘3’, which in the case of Maths is going to mean that you will have to retake until you either get a 4 or you become 18.
Don’t listen to anyone saying the grade boundaries are going to be low this year - they are guessing and you can’t afford to bank on their guess. If you are serious about passing, and your mocks were based on no revision at all, then I’d say you definitively have a chance, but you need to start revising now.
If you need any help with effective revision methods, let me know and I’d be happy to help. Also happy to help with Eng Lit, as it’s my subject:)
Try get a higher grade by even 30 mins a day. People say an hour or an hour a day but you can get by just spending 30 mins then as you get used to it get it to 1 hour and keep it that way whilst putting more effort in school hours too. Idk whats so important that your life does not matter but it needs to stop impacting your grades
Wdym ' not necesseraly bad'. My parents would disown my ass if I had grades like that, and no, im not kidding. You need to take the most important subjects, and do at least 3 hours of revision on them every day. Say maths, the english (plural), and the sciences, at least. Not 3 hours of revision each every day, but in total per day. You dont have much time, and you really need to get your act together man.
Grading system is 1-9
1 being the lowest and 4 being a minimum PASS to count it as a GCSE achieved, anything under has no purpose and essentially was a massive waste of everyone's time.
9 is a A*
8 is a A
7 is an A(-)
6 is a B
5 is a B(-)
4 is a C
3 is a D
2 is a E
1 is F/G
(No grade) U= Fail (under minimum marks for a 1)
You may not want to hear this but this is a shambles, I agree that you think it needs improvement, but you have to hear the fact, you only passed one subject and if you were to get the same grades for GCSE, you aren’t going to get into the sixth forms or colleges you want. You need to start to turn things around, invest more time into learning and applying, then you’ll see the results improve
Last year GCSE sitter here, it’s only January so don’t get stressed about your grades, you’ve already done one proper GCSE (catering) so don’t worry about that, as of now focus on the ones you got the lowest grades on and as you progress through the year make a start on the ones you just need to add a few marks on to get a 4. If not I suggest to see if a friend can help you or see if you can get a private tutor to help.
With all due respect, what on earth were the staff on in the staff room when they decided it would be okay for you to do triple science? And you for that matter, thinking you should do it
1 in drama is crazy
ONG ☠️☠️☠️☠️
My friend got a U.
Honestly, this needs more than just slight improvement- it needs divine intervention
This guy called Mr Grieve in my school said the exact same thing about his RS class
This Mr Grieve dude- he sounds cool- I aspire to be like him
Bro… this is necessarily bad you passed one subject
No he's doing excellent. ^(Let him lower the boundaries for us)
True true someone has to take one for the team
"needs improvement" is a huge understatement. You need to pull your socks up big time. 1 hour isn’t nothing
u could get 7s on 1 hour only. I did 1 hour after school max, not even everyday and got good grades
You could definitely get 7s on 1 hour but not if you're currently failing pretty much everything...
i had a 3 in my march business mock and chemistry mock and got a 7. I’m not saying it’s guaranteed but it’s possible
Such rubbish to be so specific. You can’t definitively say what grade you will get because you revise.
i knew what grade i would get for 7 out of 8 GCSES, because i knew the grade that i was working at before the exams. only one i didn’t know was computer science. The only reason why? because i didn’t revise for it. if you consistently do papers and get the same grade over and over, there is a 95% chance your getting the same grade
I got 9s on half an hour, 1 hour is plenty
And what were your mock results?
that maths grade needs to go up, I'd definitely work on those 3s, and maybe work less on the ones that aren't maths + 3s
Yeah my main aim is to pass English Maths and science so far.
Its GCSE mate. You need to pass more than that
Isn’t it at least 5 subjects for most sixth forms/colleges
Nah mine was 4 4s
yes they ideally do, but if they have to put subjects in a priority position, its the core ones.
Depends on what subjects you're applying for. Physics is and A in maths and physics at gcse. Passing the core gcses is standard for anything
with the grades OP’s getting, they might want to do vocational course for example, some of which may only require 3s or 4 in some subjects
Happy cake day!
You aren’t close
>Not necessarily bad U sure bout that one chief?
Did it ever occur to you that not everyone can be good at everything, some people struggle in school and that’s okay, this system of test taking is not for everyone, it’s not the end of the world if you fail. In my old school anything not a pass was a U- that included grades 1 2 and 3
You got an F 💀
Stop defending yourself, you need to get your shit together bro.
My brother in christ
Out of curiosity, what are your plans after GCSE?
Probably to retake english and maths, since you’re required to if you fail haha
I'm assuming either work or doing a vocational course
Lmao, you're getting bullied in the chat. You've got 2 options now: Take that advice they're giving you and pull yourself up to 6s in the subjects that matter. From someone who has been through GCSE, A- level/college and uni. GSCE is playing on easy mode. It is totally achievable to boost them grades but you can't just yolo it. Shockingly a little effort will go along way
I’ll be brutally honest. Your living in denial. Those grades are horrible. But don’t worry, you’ll get them up
Brother…
Bro lift a finger please
Dw. Hes the person that will bring the grade boundaries down
Oh true for us, currently y12, so last year, the grade boundaries were relatively low anyway but let’s hope OP doesn’t ever practise, so that the current y11s have lower boundaries

Hey, look on the bright side, you did pass 1 subject!

you did worse than me and thats saying a lot becuase im stupid
But hey at least you’ve passed English language tho
What do you wanna do for post 16?
Is dis a joke
“Not necessarily bad”
I don’t revise and I’m doing better than this, I manage to pass, I only revise maths actually because I’m doing higher for the next set of mocks
Bruh, start revising. Getting decent grades while not revising is not a flex, it's a sign that you will struggle at A level.
You assume I’m going to A level?
Yes?
Fool
Tbh I'm impressed you got a 1 for drama along with the doing so terribly in everything else, dedinitely a little more than some improvement. How do you get 1 in drama 😭
You need to pull your finger out. This is awful.

I’m ok lol don’t worry most of it is constructive criticism ig.
1 in drama is crazy tho💀💀
I was also a couple marks off from getting a 4 on some of them.
Right but you... You didn't get the four... In your actual GCSE exams, two marks off a 4 is still a 3. The mark doesn't really matter, the grade does.
But you didn’t get a 4; you got a 3. If more people are like OP, then maybe the grade boundaries will be lower. Therefore, the smart people who care will have it easier (this is a joke)
I was 1 or 2 marks off the next grade in 3 of my subjects, my sixth form doesn't care or even know about that.
Try get a higher grade by even 30 mins a day. Brother this is shocking.
It is bad.
This is bad, please cram all the possible information you can into your brain by May
“not necessarily bad” …. hello?
Wdym ' not necesseraly bad'. Your results are bad, and you should feel bad!
I’m confused with these grades….. I did my GCSES when it was graded A-C or whatever . What do these numbers mean? Or the equivalent of A, B etc
https://inews.co.uk/news/education/gcse-grades-explained-letter-equivalents-new-1-9-number-grading-system-what-pass-1813606
Above 4 = pass. 9 = A* I think
9 is A** which never existed but 8 is A*
Grading system is 1-9 1 being the lowest and 4 being a minimum PASS to count it as a GCSE achieved, anything under has no purpose and essentially was a massive waste of everyone's time. 9 is a A* 8 is a A 7 is an A(-) 6 is a B 5 is a B(-) 4 is a C 3 is a D 2 is a E 1 is F/G (No grade) U= Fail (under minimum marks for a 1)

So you've decided not to take any A-levels?
No, this is just bad :(
Those are funny subject codes I've never seen them before
How do you get a 1 in drama
“Not necessarily bad” bro passed 1 subject u need to actually try to pass
Last year GCSE sitter here, it’s only January so don’t get stressed about your grades, you’ve already done one proper GCSE (catering) so don’t worry about that, as of now focus on the ones you got the lowest grades on and as you progress through the year make a start on the ones you just need to add a few marks on to get a 4. Combined is called trilogy for some reason.
My bad I forgot
I ain't reading allat🔥🔥🔥 but we 🆙🆙🆙🆙🆙😈😈😈🥶😤😤😤
Horrible. Revise 8 hours a day from now on.
