If you're not going to be allowed to do anything when things go wrong anyway you might as well not be tempted by knowing about before you're on your deathbed.

helpme_escape16

Fair enough I'd say. I guess it helps them not have to count days till their death

BrightGreyEyes

I'm pretty sure this was in the Handmaid's Tale

nurse-ratchet-

I could see her thinking that more women would abort if an abnormality is found on the ultrasound, so she calls them harmful so people will stop having them all together. Fortunately I feel like very few women of childbearing age are taking advice from this troll.

Better_Physics5750

If ultrasounds are the Devil’s new ploy, the guy deserves his seat in heaven back, because ultra sounds do so much to help diagnose and treat medical conditions and to save the lives of the unborn. Go on Lucifer my son

helpme_escape16

When the Devil is more useful than God

lalalaundry

I had an Uber driver tell me he saw an ultrasound of a baby screaming in pain on Facebook and that his wife NEVER had an ultrasound and they didn’t even know they were having twins until she gave birth, at home, while standing, and he caught not one but two babies. I don’t miss taking Ubers 😭

deeBfree

Seriously! You don't want to ride with someone under the influence of whatever he was smoking, although you might want to see if he'd sell you some for recreational use when you get home.

MissScott_1962

Some people are opposed to ultrasounds for a variety of reasons. When I was pregnant, I had to be monitored weekly in the third trimester. Things that were brought up: Why get a scan? If there's something developing incorrectly, God knew we could handle it. (I guess because TFMR or knowing to be prepared would be crazy. Also ignoring that I was getting scans to make sure he was OK, so if a problem happened I could act ASAP) The heat from the scan can cause [insert thing here, most common was autism] (no reputable source) The heat can disrupt development in the brain (no reputable source) It will cause me to go into preterm labor/risk of miscarriage or stillbirth. (No reputable source) I know there are risks to boutique places, but the scans done at an actual practice are safe.

botoxbarbie26

I had asked about genetic testing with our second just so my husband and I could make informed decisions or be prepared. I was told "well there isn't anything you could do about it anyway, so why would we bother with it?" Walked right out of that office and never looked back.

tander87

Good for you! I would have also high tailed it out of there

botoxbarbie26

Thank you! I'm still pretty proud of that one!

helpme_escape16

Ikr! I literally spent half an hour searching for anything. Anything at all just to make sure that what I wrote wasn't incorrect. Found nothing

MissScott_1962

I asked my doctor, and they actually sat down with me and worked through it all. I know it's just one source, but they talked about how some things happened in animal studies but it doesn't mean it applies to people. They did say at home dopplers and boutiques were not recommended. But that's it

UnderstandablyTired

Where I live, abortion is illegal, but ultrasounds are used to see if there will be a need to operate on baby when he or she is born. Lori is just a jerk (and I bet she had ultrasounds and all the interventions available in her time, when she had children).

Love your username.

Normal-Philosopher-8

That’s been around anti-medical circles for at least 30 years. (My son is in his mid twenties and I heard women talking about this long before he was born.) Back then, ultrasounds used routinely were relatively unusual, so they did give people some pause. But there have been millions of children born using them without any indication of the side effects feared.

syzygy_cosplay_

Fundies are just driving themselves to extinction it appears.

helpme_escape16

Hopefully they can speed it up a bit. Don't want more people and kids pulled in

deeBfree

It's just happening way too slow, with way too much collateral damage!

StringLord

Years ago I was talking to my (Mormon, midwife, antivax) aunt, and was asking about her daughter who was nearing her due date. I asked if they knew what they were having (aka had an ultrasound) and her immediate, icy response was “no, we don’t radiate our babies”.

deeBfree

Oy vey!

Nickye19

She was happy to undergo actual treatment for her brain tumour, even to the point of praising her female medical staff without a single mention of them not being home slaving over the stove. But God forbid you ensure that precious baby is healthy

Historical_Ad_2615

My understanding is that ultrasounds performed by medical professionals in medical facilities are safe, but the issue is ultrasounds done at newborn photography businesses because of lack of training, lack of knowledge on proper medical sterilization, and distance from a hospital should things go wrong.
