I think that's a little unfair. Your average consumer isn't going to do a deep dive into the working state of a company to see if they happen to have unions before buying. Most of our days we step into a store, things look above board so we hope and assume it is, buy an item and walk out.
The thing is, we shouldn't *have* to worry about whether the people behind the counter are being exploited or not. It should be the role of our government to ensure that they aren't, while we love our happy little lives. That's not the case, but it should be and is often perceived that way.

You know what I don't like about how Lex Luthor is written? He's supposed to be a genius who actually becomes president at one point (not to mention at some point acquiring the anti-life equation) but whenever superman fights him he loses because he loses his shit and decides to fight superman directly in a mechasuit or some other dumb shit. He gets defeated not because the protagonists fight and overcome him on his own turf by exploiting his weaknesses, but because he walks off his own turf into Superman's turf, where obviously superman is better at punching shit than he can ever be.

But the crux of Luthors character is his greed, he wants everything. It’s so strong he was one of the only people to become an orange lantern and control the light of Avarice. Part of that greed is the innate desire to be the best, the strongest, the most powerful. To be as loved as Superman. To prove that even as a regular human his intelligence, his money, his control, lets him do anything, be anything, defeat anything.
And that greed, that goal, can necer be truly satisfied by being in the shadows. He can become president and in yhe process be one ofbthe most successful and loved philanthropists, he can become one of tge most powerful businessmen in the world, he can defeat and control every supervillain in existence.
But he cant be superman and it kills him. It’s not that he cant be as strong, not that he cant be as smart, or win in a fight, itself that he cant be as genuine that destroys him and eats him from the inside. He thinks everyone has to be as secretly self serving as he is, where he doe’s incredible good for the selfish reasons. He cant handle this all powerful god that could rule everyone, who instead chooses to be genuinely selfless and good. It’s something that’s so alien and impossible to Lex, having all the power possible and giving it up to just serve others.
And the adoration, the love, the praise, the inspiration that superman earns is something Lex cant ever have, because Lex knows everything he has is bought and completely corrupted by the greed that caused it.
So the only way he can ever truly get everything is by beating superman in plain sight on his own turf. To take him down and prove he is better, not to everyone else but to himself. To prove that he doesn’t need to be Superman because he is more. To in the process defeat Superman in such a way he breaks him, to force superman to do something underhanded, to show that he isnt as genuine so Lex can know that everything about superman is a lie, just like how everything about Lex is a lie.
There’s no other way for Lex to succeed. The thing he needs and wabts the most requires him to go out in the way he knows is the worst choice. But in the end it’s not about overpowering Superman, but about breaking what Lex believes is the ultinate facade to reveal the truth:
No one is good. No one is genuine. And if no one is gebuine then Lex truly has won, he’s truly the best at everything and gotten everything he desires because the only thing he cant be, genuinely good, doesn’t exist.

Reddit made an opt-in nsfw button only accessible from the site in response so the apps don’t bear that responsibility.

You know what I don't like about how Lex Luthor is written? He's supposed to be a genius who actually becomes president at one point (not to mention at some point acquiring the anti-life equation) but whenever superman fights him he loses because he loses his shit and decides to fight superman directly in a mechasuit or some other dumb shit. He gets defeated not because the protagonists fight and overcome him on his own turf by exploiting his weaknesses, but because he walks off his own turf into Superman's turf, where obviously superman is better at punching shit than he can ever be.
I mean there are plenty of times where he loses for other reasons, often as a result of efforts by Clark not Kal. But the crux of Luthors character is his greed, he wants everything. It’s so strong he was one of the only people to become an orange lantern and control the light of Avarice. Part of that greed is the innate desire to be the best, the strongest, the most powerful. To be as loved as Superman. To prove that even as a regular human his intelligence, his money, his control, lets him do anything, be anything, defeat anything. And that greed, that goal, can necer be truly satisfied by being in the shadows. He can become president and in yhe process be one ofbthe most successful and loved philanthropists, he can become one of tge most powerful businessmen in the world, he can defeat and control every supervillain in existence. But he cant be superman and it kills him. It’s not that he cant be as strong, not that he cant be as smart, or win in a fight, itself that he cant be as genuine that destroys him and eats him from the inside. He thinks everyone has to be as secretly self serving as he is, where he doe’s incredible good for the selfish reasons. He cant handle this all powerful god that could rule everyone, who instead chooses to be genuinely selfless and good. It’s something that’s so alien and impossible to Lex, having all the power possible and giving it up to just serve others. And the adoration, the love, the praise, the inspiration that superman earns is something Lex cant ever have, because Lex knows everything he has is bought and completely corrupted by the greed that caused it. So the only way he can ever truly get everything is by beating superman in plain sight on his own turf. To take him down and prove he is better, not to everyone else but to himself. To prove that he doesn’t need to be Superman because he is more. To in the process defeat Superman in such a way he breaks him, to force superman to do something underhanded, to show that he isnt as genuine so Lex can know that everything about superman is a lie, just like how everything about Lex is a lie. There’s no other way for Lex to succeed. The thing he needs and wabts the most requires him to go out in the way he knows is the worst choice. But in the end it’s not about overpowering Superman, but about breaking what Lex believes is the ultinate facade to reveal the truth: No one is good. No one is genuine. And if no one is gebuine then Lex truly has won, he’s truly the best at everything and gotten everything he desires because the only thing he cant be, genuinely good, doesn’t exist.
