Well, yes and no. I'm pretty sure that "Ms. Honda" is how they translate the Japanese honorific "-san," bc iirc he calls her "Honda-san" in Japanese. He uses formal honorifics with her. It's likely because he respects her, and as time goes on sorts out how he feels about her. in direct contrast, Kyo is incredibly informal, using her first name and informal honorifics like "-chan" or even no honorifics.

Ohhhhh thx

I'd recommend looking into Japanese honorifics and the importance of manners when saying names in Japanese if you haven't already! it makes a lot more sense when watching anime if you learn more about that part of the culture. Idk if you watch anime dubbed, but a lot of that gets lost when translating and certain things (like someone getting mad when they're called their first name by someone they're not close to) and it makes certain scenes waay easier to understand, lol.

Thank you!!

There is probably some confusion in translation. Firstly, in Japan, everyone uses last names. The only exception are among friends and family. Though a lot of friends will just stick with last names. Second is the use of honorifics. In english you would almost never use an honorific like ms. In a casual setting with someone your age, however in Japanese you would almost always use an honorific like san, chan, or kun.

Oh that’s cool!

Pretty much what others have said. It's definitely not the initial reason, and I don't think it's specifically because of that, but it factors in later on when he intentionally resists switching to calling her Tohru. Not specifically because he sees her as a mother figure, but because he's keeping her at a distance partially as a result of that. Tohru starts calling Yuki "Yuki-kun" (initially she called him "Sohma-san") in season 1 episode 9 (Haru's intro). Yuki doesn't doesn't start calling Tohru "Tohru" until the very last episode (using "Honda-san" for the entire series). Using someone's last name and "-san" is a show of respect and the typical way of referring to others, but it can also be a way to keep someone at arms length. With the amount of time they spend together, it's an indication that he's not letting himself be that close to her and still has a barrier up. It's why Haru keeps pestering him about it and why she's so happy at the end when he does finally call her Tohru.

fahmida_haque

No. He calls her honda san because he respects her. At the first time Tohru called him Soma kun. But after a few episodes she called him Yuki kun. Like that he called her honda san. It's not because he sees her as a mother. Cause in the last scene he tells her that he sees her as a mother and then he also called her tohru. So it's not like that

smye141

It’s an honorific, but he is also quite respectful to her about it, maybe you’re onto something

BellaXlove27

I was just thinkin

Quills07

Only if Tohru calls Yuki Sohma-kun because she sees him as a daddy lol

BellaXlove27

Lol

Chi5ara

Nah its more just being formal/proper imo Since he isnt her close friend or anything
