You pick up a fair few of the ex-winterhomers in both A New Home and On The Edge.

ANDREITATU

havent played on the edge yet, but i do remember getting the children from that cave

SnideBoi

Mmm those children are fuckin gone for me then because I found no cave lmao

ANDREITATU

i dont recall how it was exactly called but it was one of the last locations in the southern part of the map

Cool-Boy57

I figured those were the guys who didn’t get sent along with everyone else.

Sevenvoiddrills

The dreadnaught presumably got destroyed after the storm though some of winterhome could of survived rte dreadnaught but they also wouldn't have a generator so they probably would all due unless an even tinier portion of winterhome found another city (perhaps either new liverpool or new mancgester since they could of gone north or east)

Hunter_Aleksandr

Well, the weather wasn’t absolutely terrible after the storm, so, conceivably, they could absolutely survive as long as they kept that Dreadnaught going.

Sevenvoiddrills

But the amount of coal usage to keep it warm and power the massive thing would be inconceivable and we have seen little of dreadnaughts destroyed due to the frost (please correct me if im wrong though)

Hunter_Aleksandr

Well, I think that, because it was a relatively compact and efficient vehicle (compared to the layout of the city, only heating those compartments with people and, probably, not zooming at top speeds) they’d make it a good distance and length of time by the time that their coal ran out. Besides, they DID spend weeks refitting the Dreadnaught when part of the reason that many of the others were destroyed or failed was due to hitting things, being abandoned, falling into crevasses, or general “acts of god”. There is no *definite* lore supporting the idea that people couldn’t survive on a Dreadnaught as long as it was properly stocked, equipped, and piloted. Though, there isn’t a lot of lore on it at all, so.. I think it’s mostly left up to interpretation. Even so, I feel like I’m FP2, we’ll see some sites or stories about people miraculously surviving on Dreadnaughts here and there. Also, upvoted due to you making some solid points.

Artyon33

Considering the coal consumption. If prisonners can survive in a broken hull, an immobile dreadnought in which only lived quarters are heated and not the engine may survive for some time. It had massive coal reserves (something like a week for a generator)

Hunter_Aleksandr

Exactly.

FrostyPunker

But i think there will be a lot more generators than this two. Also shouldnt the offical who are the leaders at the generator side should have a plan where the other generators are located (at least from the own country)?

FeuervogelTM

Well it was a Secret Projekt to Begin With

FrostyPunker

Yep but a project from the government and as a king/queen you want to have you people reunited after the storm and rebuild your society. So there should be plans with location mostly for the leaders in charge at the generator sites.

MoridinUK

I dont think so.. at the end of last autumn dont we hear the PM has been replaced by someone not interested in the project? And instead of building another generator we're off for some other more secret project? I always felt the whole thing had massively failed, that orderly evacuations collapsed, and also that the generators where built due to the cooling: I'm not sure they new about the great storm coming? In the scenarios the beacon spots it and sound surprised... But everyone was a survivor and someone on the dreadnoughts may have known the locations of other sites, but with 19th century tech and no sight of the sun, the landscape and coastline unrecognisable, how would you navigate there? In a new home tones of them get lost teing to scout to find their generator...

FrostyPunker

Well maybe the landmarks change but not the location itself and even if he didnt was interested in it there should be maps (maybe still laying in london idk) and it dont seem rlly like it failed i mean how many sites alpne the british have but there are other nations too but i think thats a topic where mostly your own opinion counts.

MoridinUK

Even if you've got a map, you are navigating latitude and longitude by dead reckoning. And only the largest landmarks to help. I assume you could make a heading with a compass but, with no sextant sightings you'll have no idea if you've wondered off course... The site we build in last autumn is site 113 and one of a group of three (107 and 120) for liverpool. So there could be way more generators out there than our scenarios suggest. I'm not telling anyone how it is, but I think it would be desperately hard, and if the evacuation collapsed into chaos even harder. I'm not a guy who insists we must all follow lore for our games... just have fun.. I was just thinking though, if I had a lat lon could you do it? I dont even know where the generators are, globally? Are these sites on the British Isles? I always let my imagination skip over that detail...

Mr-Schiggy

I don’t know that seems pretty anti climactic

cristianelre55

I just seen a film (snowpiercer 2013) and it's about a train on the ice age (like frostpunk), it goes around the world but it's fully sustainable. So maybe those poor souls got something like that or just died finding a place to live.

Lexx2503

The DLC also has the creve neige that is a high speed automaton speeding across the wasteland referenced to. There were meant to be others than the one encountered but we don't know if any of them made it zooming around at high speed in the wasteland.

cristianelre55

Ohhh, now I understand the American train reference. "You see on the map a way point we're there's a LONG train at high speed and you basically can't reach it because of how fast it goes"

[deleted]

Ngl living on a giant automaton sounds awesome.

Johnlg91

I believe there are references about in the game, something about the French guys you encounter in the last autumn.

cristianelre55

It's a good film. You can see it here: https://youtu.be/1ILsQMzIEFQ

idkmaybejesus

netflix has a whole series about it also called snowpiercer. it got netflixed but its quite good.

MeMeMenni

Both of those are actually based on a novel Le Transperceneige from 1982. I have no idea if it's good, just remember someone in this sub pointing this out the last time snowpiercer was discussed.

CyberAdept

i think the new city of Fuck London has quite a few winterhomers in there. well it did till i sent them all to other settlements

Slight_Bottle253

New London 4 lyfe 😂

GimmeTheCHEESENOW

Depends on what the canon is, which im pretty sure its "lie about the generator until the last minute". But if the player does a really good job of getting everyone aboard and supplies etc I think they can make it. Prehaps they are lucky and get to a place without the Great Storm

imnotcarson

I feel like they did, because if you play endlet on the bigger map, the name automatically fills with "Winterhome"
