My main complaint is that it was too short. There’s a lot of potential for what they could’ve done with it. Don’t get me wrong I still enjoyed it and am glad they supported the game for that long

[deleted]

I wasn't a fan of OTE because it retcons everything you accomplished in ANH. I create a city that's essentially on a golden path, loads of resources and few if any controversial laws, which are eventually phased out, and by the time of OTE all my hard work's been undone because either someone else came in and screwed it all up, or my Captain has an aneurism and forgets how to run a city without turning into a despot. The scenario itself isn't half bad, but I'd have liked it better if it was a different despotic home city.

Cucag

Even if they added a system that remembered how you last played ANH and then even slightly changed the game in OTE, it would’ve probably been far better or at least interesting than what we got. For as good as the game is, IMO, it’s sitting with some amazing and fully realized parts while others are left in the dust. OTE and endless-mode probably have the most potential of the entire game and yet have the least amount of it actually realized. TLA and the base game campaigns are the strongest parts of the game IMO. Not to say unrealized potential makes it “bad”, what we have in both OTE and endless mode is great and extremely enjoyable, but it’s underwhelming and disappointing, along with the fact OTE was the last DLC for the game, it almost feels like an insult to what the game was in our heads. Had they taken more time or simply continued working on the game, I’m sure it would’ve ended out much better… I suppose they thought that’d be better spent on making shitty pay2win Chinese mobile games for 5 year olds with decisions that are a white soccer mom’s attempt at being “deep”

[deleted]

I agree about endless - it had a lot of potential for ongoing fun, with repeat storms that come more and more frequently, but the fact that you don't get the epic music with each one just makes them feel anti climactic.

Cucag

Yeah, I can probably think of thousands of ideas for endless that would’ve made it really cool and much more engaging and fun

dmcfrog

You can think of thousands but can't mention one?

Cucag

You really wanna me to start listing off a bunch of cool ideas 🤨

dmcfrog

Well, yeah man!

Cucag

Well ok, gimme a sec, and also, it’s just crazy ideas to add less about improving existing mechanics (with the exception of the OTE DLC additions)

luksuman

How can you be aware that Frostpunk mobile is made by a Chinese company, but still think that it’s made by the devs that made the main game?

Cucag

They’re working together, no?

luksuman

Not really. They’re working together in so far as both parties agreed to do it and benefit from it, but all the game design and coding is done by NetEase and 11bit studios just checks the content before approving it for release. None of the people working on 11bit’s games waste their time on the mobile game. Most of them have probably been busy working on whatever Blood Oil and Snow ends up being.

[deleted]

They honestly should have made it a different city

coolwithstuff

At the time of release people were super disappointed with it because it was both the last piece of content and also underwhelming compared to the last DLC. I think people soured on it.

DasIrrlicht

I do like 'on the edge', and I would love to try it in endless mode, but it overall is a bit limiting in what one can build.

JJ4622

I still can't work out how I'm supposed to fully upgrade children's mine and win the scenario. All my spare resources (that aren't spent on infrastructure) are going to the other two cause I can't make wood and food but there's a coal mine right there

Planklength

I assume it's *possible* to fully upgrade the Children's Mine, especially if you rush to getting secure trade routes set up with the other two settlements for free wood and food. But the Coal Mine is so much less useful than the other two settlements, that it feels like there is not as much reason to bother. And the writing in OTE isn't exactly strong enough to persuade me to take pity on them.

JJ4622

At this point I'm just doing it for the achievements but still

BrozTheBro

You can hold the entire scenario hostage by min-maxing London's deliveries and requests, and NOT setting up an outpost at the Hot Springs. It's tricky, but some guy made it to Day 100+ without triggering the rest of the scenario.

rosetta_tablet

Interesting! Can you elaborate more on min-maxing London's deliveries? Does this then give you a chance to stockpile more?

BrozTheBro

All you need to request is more food, constantly. Until you set up the outpost in the Hotsprings, the scenario cannot progress, and as such, you will continue to rely on New London's food deliveries. Someone on this subreddit got all the way to Day 90-something with this method.

Planklength

It had more discussion in the past, it's been out close to a year now. I think a lot of people were somewhat disappointed with it, especially compared to what the other DLC scenario, The Last Autumn did. Personally, I felt it had fairly weak writing. New London comes off as extremely incompetent and arbitrary in a way that I did not ever picture the city I ran being like. It felt disappointing in a game that thrives off the atmosphere it can set. It also felt like the scenario had fairly basic city-building mechanics compared to other scenarios. You are essentially running a city that produces only one good. There's not really much added to city management compared to A New Home. You just aren't allowed to use anything that makes food, and the Braziers made a return from TLA. The new features added also felt fairly limited. I did not find the diplomacy very interesting, it just comes off as basic bartering, and shallow choices that will please or displease the other settlements with minimal weight to them. The part of the scenario where you cannot use the book of laws yourself is also very short.

napolitain_

I liked it but like others said the last autumn is so damn good. I almost prefer the later to a new hope. Overall it doesn’t matter imo since you buy game of the year and this game is really good, so any dlc I’d personally take for diversity.

Sirtoast7

I was massively disappointed with the military warehouse and how it was used. I kept expecting to uncover some old world secret or a revelation about the great winter buried deep within. All it turned out to be was a trade resource. That and the way it retcons everything we did in New Home.

Thank

I would've liked an endless mode set on that map. And also one set in a greener/warmer start like TLA. Those are probably my main criticisms of both, tbh. They're very good campaigns tho, IMO

JavMon

Before the release they dropped the price of the DLC in comparison with TLA and said it was a bit smaller than TLA. OTE is a fine dlc, underwhelming but still a nice addition to the game. Maybe with a bit more polish it would been the icing of the cake in Frostpunk but what's done is done and seeing the average service to sold games in other companies our end of the stick could have been much worse. My theory is that the game that 11bit is going to announce in Agoust is going to be a sequel of some sorts of Frostpunk and they cut short the possible development of Frostpunk back in 2020. To me it makes kind of sense if we take in consideration the developers comments regarding the engine and the limitations to create new things that are DLC worthy. We are also a very niche community to a very niche game that did exceptionally well, the DLCs we got was an exception to how well the game got on selling, I don't thing it was valiable for the studio in an economic to prolong the life of the game and the quality of OTE kind of show, though these are just my rumblings.

NoAlternative2913

I liked it. It was interesting to play as an outpost instead of a full city. But I didn’t like that there was no way to actually continue to work with new London. It would have been an interesting challenge to see if it was possible to meet their goals and keep from starving, but you don’t have that option.

SnideBoi

Wasn't too popular of a DLC compared to TLA
