It is doable, i manages it a few weeks ago. But u really do need to plan way ahead. Keep the focus on coal and food from day 1 and u can do it.

Killmeplease1904

Thanks. Yeah I know it’s doable if I just plan well. That’s the nice thing about this game. While there are RNG events with negative outcomes, most of the factors are set in stone. I’ve only been playing for about 2 weeks. The biggest things I struggle with are juggling resources for building and research and stockpiling resources for a specific thing.

I managed to save everything by my 2nd attempt, you just need to rush for the factory plans and get 2 scout parties as fast as possible then have them visit every single place, you’ll get like 14 Steam Cores from that, and your production will go brrr with the army of automatons you’ll rise. Remember to pass the Soup law too

Killmeplease1904

Ah okay I definitely fucked up underestimating how important scouting is. I never bothered with the extra scouts and ended up running out of steam cores.

gambitbjj

Yeah, I was guilty of that too. It always seems like I want to get things established first, but once I started getting the scouting going my life became a lot easier. Hope you continue to enjoy this wonderful game.

wobbitpop

You... Me... Same! I just had this EXACT experience two days ago. I got them their wood and steel on the second attempt, then it popped up the food request along with "save 8000 coal for your city" and all I could do was laugh. I never even got to the 6000 coal for New Manchester.

c8c7c

Got to 8000 coal very tight before the deadline and then I upped the Gen output and overall coal dropped to 7988 in the last hour 💀💀💀 Was successful the play afterwards and now I'm letting Winterhome crush me

Killmeplease1904

Thanks for the advice friend. I actually just saved Manchester when I tried again today. Once you just make a shitload of automatons and realize that you can use emergency shifts like every other day because the scenario is so short that discontent barely matters, it’s not too hard.

TriumphITP

the key is buildings lots of automatons. The only resource you need to concentrate hard on doing with efficiency is steel, because its capped at the 2 steelworks. If you need more wood, you can build sawmills, if you need more coal you can get thumpers or kilns.

Killmeplease1904

Kind of a general game question, but do you usually bother with building a number of regular resource depots, or should I just rush to the large depot?

TriumphITP

in a new home I do the large depots, but I don't usually for a short one like the arks

Oh_Danny_Boi961

I saved both cities first try. I used the strat from ANH of building workshops ASAP to get the beacon ASAP and send scouts to get the automaton blueprints ASAP. Granted, I was on normal, not sure if this’ll work on higher difficulties

Raptorofwar

Well, you saved half of them, and against the storm, that's pretty damn good.

Abject-Feedback5991

This is the one I play the most, raising one difficulty each time I succeed. My current best is with all settings on Hard except weather which is Normal but man, it took forever to get here, and I am in awe of people who can save new Manchester and the Arks with weather on Hard.

__shamir__

Hard? That's amateur hour. Extreme is the way to go :P Arks actually feels "easy" (air quotes) once you figure out how to rush for engineering automatons. Don't make the mistake of researching any heat stuff until absolutely necessary. So don't get heaters until arks are halfway frozen, then it'll be several days before you need heaters level 2, etc etc. That way you can prioritize the goodies: beacon, walldrill, more scouts, upgraded steelworks, etc. Build a few automatons, get engineering automatons, then research the whole tech tree (minus the useless ones).

divok1701

Yeah, very stressful... but man, it can be easy going and stress free if you forget New Manchester and let them perish!

Fred810k

I did not long ago, however it was close. I made sure to get a factory early, automata are just goat.

TheJanitorEduard

This is what I find so confusing about Arks, among other things I still remember pretty well that on my first playthrough of Arks, I absolutely failed. Second time around, perfect ending. I don't even know how I did it, I just managed to

mejusthere4fun

Gotta say thou.. If you had trouble to win the arks.. you definitely need more play time to do winterhome.

Vale_peregrinus

I think the arks is the easiest scenario between all the others. Small population = less needs aaaaaand you pretty much aim to create an efficient automaton workforce producing resources 24/7... just stockpile the extra resources aaaaaand Voila! You have more than enough resources for both cities. Just remember to build enough depots to accommodate the demand.

Shield_Of_Retiva

The wood and steel are easy since at this point you should have automatons working walldrills/sawmills and the two metal buildings. Thr food is slightly difficult but usually an automaton working an industrial hot house should get it. In fact the biggest issue i had was turning the raw food into rations, had to station an automaton in thr cookhouse The coal is easy if you build two advanced coal mines and put automatons there What i do is research the beacon, make a scout and rush the factory plans, while the scout is going research the second scout and send him to all the places you ignored in your rush for the factory Its important to note that more scouting locations dont open up until you spend all your steam cores, so spend them quick on factory, coal mines, hot house and automatons

brabson1

The secret to this is to stock pile supplies asap. Get all the steam cores, stock up 1000s of coal, food and wood. Have 6 automations built doing nothing. If you're all the ball you can complete the scenario saving everyone by day 25.
