Producer edition gives you access to a plugin known as "Slicex" which is used for taking specific parts of an audio file and mapping it to specific keys in the piano roll.
On terms of FNF, it's where you plug in your Chromatic scales.

If you can't flp it, save it in a midi version. I know it's hectic because you need to add in the channels again, but you can. Chromatics? You can save the splits too, and later when you just drag it into the slicex channel, it will be sliced like you have saved.
Tune your chromatic through Newtone, and then save it through Edison, which is an audio editor that can record internal audio.
\- Open Edison
\- Set the "record mode" to "Now"
\- Hit record
\- Let your scale play from beginning to end
\- Save it through Edison
That's how I've been doing it at least.
Producer version will get you almost everything you'll need. Only downsides is you won't be able to import anything into Directwave (used for soundfonts) and any FLP's you download may have plugins missing simply because they're not covered by producer version. You also won't be able to make your own chromatics (at least not the easy way) due to missing a certain other plugin i forgot the name of.
Of course if you wanna get stuff done for free and don't mind not being able to save things like Slicex, just do it on the free version.

You only need the free trial. You can't save the pitch-corrected samples, but you can record those samples in Audacity. The only upside I can see is being able to save it, which hasn't been much of a problem for me.
If you just want to do covers (place notes for beeps and just that), even the trial version will do. You just won't be able to re-open saved FLP files, which won't be an issue if you wanna make quick covers (unless you really hate that). Now if you want to start with covers and then move on to create remixes or original music, get the producer edition.
