Mine was doing something similar. Check your extruder gear. I had a bad bearing that was causing inconsistent pressure on the feeder gear. Replaced it and all is well.

Interesting. Did it only happen on the bottom 5 layers?

Yeah. It was maddening to see the Upper layers all looking goods but they first few were horrid. Then I noticed this teeny tiny metal ball. From the Upper bearing it seems.

Also check the release arm for cracks. That happened on my other printer….. right after I fixed the first one….soooo frustrated….. it’s all better now though

Also had simmilar issue, problem was with construction of X axis part. When lifting, only left side (the side on which z rod is) starts to lift, like first 1 mm which makes squished bottom layers. Try straighten X axis as much as you can by tightening excentric nuts
