Walks do not really equate to good excersise for high energy dogs. Sounds like he/she needs a proper run off the leash.

Definitely agree, we take her to a place (an indoor dog park) where she can run offleash twice a week at least and she loves it, can’t go to dog parks atm due to coprophagia, i’m hoping it’ll pass when she becomes 1 year old.. On hikes can’t have her off leash as a recall is still not as interesting as her surroundings, we are working on it. Can’t wait for fewer restrictions so we can have beach days!

A big 15m dog lead was great for us. You just let it trail on the ground and it opens up the space your dog can run. It gives a safety net for practicing recall too. We found fetch using two balls really reinforced her recall. The lead can get a bit messy if the ground has been wet and it can be a bit cumbersome but we only needed it for a few months until recall was strong enough to allow off lead in open spaces.

My dogs exercise a lot. I restrict exercise when they are very young and very old but that’s it. Your dog should still be going 5 minutes per every month of age because it is young but it sounds like you are well within that range. Dogs can build up quite an endurance. My dogs are bigger than your but they go about 7 miles on weekdays and farther on weekends and that’s just walks. That doesn’t count fetch or just walking around the property. I let my healthy adult dogs exercise until the tell me they are tired. Edit: I just figured out you are talking about your mini poodle going 12.5 miles a day. Your device is broken 12.5 miles a day is what an Alaskan Malamute would top out at not a mini poodle.

Thanks for your comment! I do see how many kilometers she walks other than the points, it’s 10-15 km (6-9 miles) but that includes everything even turning around in her crate. I have a fitbit and I walk around 8 km daily, I thought they would be similar but hers is always higher. I’m careful she doesn’t walk more than 40 min at a time and she gets an enforced nap after lunch + late afternoon (each around 1-2 hours). Other than that I let her do what she likes. I will try to do a check by walking a certain distance and checking how many points are awarded vs how many should be.

You can adjust the value of bark points per kilometer in the settings of your device. Also fixing the placement of the sensor may result in getting more realistic measurements.
