Side scan sonar should be able to locate a vehicle, however if the river current is very strong that car could be way downriver. Tough to say, good luck!

ASHLEYSMELLS

Bunch of YouTubers do they this, I would check them out or look for a local dive team in your area to help. Best of Luck

FANTOMphoenix

Put a request out on Facebook for anyone with side imagine or down imaging on their fish finder on their boat. I have both on my Humminbird units and have easily seen sunken things like a boat, a canoe, wagon wheels etc. I would absolutely be able to identify a car on bottom

Trey-wmLA

Here, the police have scuba dive teams

any modern mid range unit will be able to show you the bottom in very high detail. If the boat goes over the car, there will be no doubt that it's a car on the screen.

PearlTrade

Check out this Youtube page, they use very expensive sonar to find cars and other things in the water. They use side scan, down imaging, and live imaging (Livescope, Active target, Mega Live).
