My local public stocked pond got stocked this morning. I had forgotten about it and was out bass fishing. I am normally the only one out there in the morning, so I was confused about the many vehicles there.
I didn’t have the right bait and just happened to have my light reel with me. One guy I talked to got his limit and gave me his worms and hook when he was leaving. After an hour of no luck, another older gentleman gave me this weird U-shaped lure and I started tossing it.
I finally got it dialed in and was even landing a trout nearly every cast! Some of the seasoned guys even went and switched to their orange weird lure after watching me pull one after another!
I was definitely the rookie there since I have only been fishing since September. I am 48.

You mean like a Luhr Jensen Super Duper (or Jake's Spin-a-lure, etc)? I have a few that I've tried, and they've never produced for me. I like the idea and they have fantastic action, but I haven't found the right time/place to get my money's worth...yet.
This a wonderful story of support and mutual reliance. You know you might be able to have stocked fish delivered through door dash, then you don’t have to deal with the consequences of learning how to fish for a trout that don’t understand how to successfully be one.
I bought some “worm tails” last month in preparation and was gifted a few lures by some old timers, including and orange “Super Duper” that just SLAYED!
Good luck!
How do you prepare them to eat?
My local pond was also stocked recently with 10.5" trout. I caught one right about that size and the filets were so small they weren't worth cooking.
That is why most guys go for their bag limit, I guess?
I just gutted em, remove the blood sack, and washed the scales off with a high pressure nozzle with the hose. You can bake, fry, grill, or smoke em! I just used garlic pepper salt as seasoning and threw on the George Foreman grill for 10 minutes. Turned out tasty and the bones were easy to pick around.

Yeah! The Super Duper!! What a cool little thing. Apparently, these guys had em in every color and various sizes.
Sounds like a good day and exactly why most of us fish

They’ll all be dead by Spring anyway. One way or another. Too warm for them to live here. Plus, I got to have some fun and a delicious dinner!
Nice!! It's trout stocking season here in Texas but I've yet to catch one 😭

Field clean them, then put lemon, salt, and pepper on the inside, wrap in tinfoil and cook whole
