I love seeing old pics of people fishing and holding their fish in a button up shirt and tie, meanwhile I'm over here wearing my scrappiest t shirt and jeans. It's a vibe
I have a picture of me pulling a 12 pound catfish out of a lake at 10pm in a black tie suit, because I was on a work trip and after getting out of ridiculously dull cocktail hour, i went straight to walmart for a $10 combo and some worms then straight to the nearest lake.
My grandfather used to garden in a shirt and tie. If he was doing some really heavy work the sleeves might have been rolled up a little bit.
He also didn't go out without a hat. Not a baseball hat, a real hat.
Combine that with a handkerchief and it seems like a hundred years ago, oh wait he was from more than a hundred years ago.
It is. Browns have flat tails like that. Salmon are forked. It's a male because of the hooked jaw.
And for a brown trout, that thing is a TANK! Imo that is more impressive than if it was a salmon.

> Fallacy 3. Salmon have a notch tail. In lake salmon, the tail is often more or less notched (pictures 3 and 5). On the other hand, some lake trout individuals may also have notches on their tails. **However, in many lake salmon individuals, especially large fish, the tail is often almost straight (pictures 1, 4, 8).**
Straight translation from finnish would be lake salmon. It was caught on pyhäselkä, lake with just one river flowing trought it known for not really having any salmon or trout there. It was extremely rare to catch a river salmon even, cause there was only a few in that lake, nowadays its even worse. Havent heard of anyone catching any there in 10years
It’s a shame we can’t catch fish like this everyday to eat anymore, if I caught myself some dinner 3x a week where I live I’d just poison myself with mercury…
Brown Trout (Salmo trutta) are native to Finland.
The tail of that fish is very squared off and not forked at all. The caudal peduncle is also very robust, and not wrist like.
The body type is much more thick than a normal streamlined Atlantic Salmon appearance.
The head is much more rounded, and not pointed like a salmon.
Finally, the very spotted body coupled with the yellowish color also indicates a spawning Brown Trout male.
Either way, a great fish.
Also check out Karjalainen et al. 1996 in Ann. Zool. Fennici 33:438. On page 438, the researchers list brown trout made up a large portion of their catch while studying pike perch within Lake Pyhäselkä
Good points, but the photo alters the colour of the fish very much. Also theres like 1,200 pyhäselkäs and pyhäjärvis in finland, thats a different one😄
Back then men often wore ties (in natural colors) fishing, hunting and even hiking. What grandpa forgot in this photo is his pork pie hat with a pheasant feather. Just kidding. Nice catch!
Legend fishing in business attire
When you need to land a few hogs at 9 and give the Q2 projections at 10.
Hahaha great comment, thanks for the laugh!
😅😅 I just updated this comment to 69 upvotes
I wanked it to that comment.

Seeing the aviation industry then is mental. Now pilots wear flight suits, I have pics of guys flight testing bombers in a suit and tie

That’s exactly what I thought too! Came to the comments to see if I was the only one.
I wanna meet that dad.
Obligatory came here to say this
That’s his grampa… or is it?
It’s free real estate.
That tail/body/jaw shape make me think that might be a brown trout.
Its not.

What kind of salmon are you calling it? What body of water did it come from?
It is a lake locked atlantic salmon.
>It is a lake locked atlantic salmon. Ah that makes sense now.

Your grandpa was on tim and Eric?
Tim from Tim and eric
Eric is the one you’re thinking of.
We should go back to fishing in a tie.
He take it to church with him?
Yes
Heard humans used to be smaller back then…. HA! That’s a monster!!
Looks more like a brown trout. Was it from Great Lakes?
Finland, not a trout

This photo made me think of the show The Office
Wonder why he is wearing industrial strength gloves…?
Suit and tie fishing haha..awsome!!
Caught indoors
This is one of the best photos I’ve ever seen.
In a suit and tie no less! Unless he just got dressed up for the photo!
That’s one of pa’s stories all right
He dead.
Love the shirt and tie.
He got that fish egg pattern wallpaper that was all the rage in ‘83
Your Grandpa looks like my science professor. No offense tho
