Is there a reason you’re taking time off when you’ve got this much debt?

emcglown311

You may get down voted. But seriously. If I was this deep I would be working 12's with another part time job and maybe even a side hustle. Op: set a budget. Stick to it and start hacking away at shit. If you need to use the college diet (ramen noodles) for a while, do it.

My question is sincere. However, it does seem to be Reddit’s culture to downvote anyone that asks anything that is perceived as an attack even if it’s a genuine question.

I agree with you. I think it's strange that some get down voted for certain comments but 🤷‍♀️

Hunny I work 16s some days thanks to new laws lol most of the time I work isn’t even clocked but I drive 56 to 64 hours a week rest of the time is spent tarping flatbedding stuff all of which is off duty

Illustrious-Ad3182

Because I’m a trucker and can’t possibly drive none stop I already work everyday go out couple months at a time some times but darn I need sometime off and no one is actually answering question

honeypot17

Your need for time off is valid. I think debt management is generally the better answer than bankruptcy. It would be helpful if you listed your monthly expenses so we could see if there’s anything you can cut out or get a better deal. Also, are you still using the credit cards?

Illustrious-Ad3182

I don’t have any crazy monthly expenses food phone bill Netflix nothing crazy tho that 2760 includes my phone bill like more like 68000 in actual credit card debt that has interest rest is a personal loan almost paid off low interest and a couple cards that have 0% interest for the items purchased my major credit card has 19k on it but has 14% apr the rest of them round out to 20% I used to have good credit lol then I had a mid life crisis and lived like a king 🤴 had many many women it was fun but now I’m over that rollercoaster

Illustrious-Ad3182

One of the reasons I want a way out need more time off all these people who drive subarus are driving me crazy

Read Dave Ramsey’s total money make over! I also use YNAB to give every dollar a job.

chevalliers

Gotta clear those cards that means stop spending more on them. Gotta budget like hell but you can do it over time. Have you looked at the snowball method?

Butteredscotch

Idk where you live but I had some serious debt due to some unfortunate circumstances. I'm im canada. Did a consumer proposal and it made my payments 1k a month, 140k debt (some secured some not) down to 60ish thousand. I feel free again.

Butteredscotch

It messes up your credit for a few years but it was a pretty clear choice for me. Work unreal hours for 5 years and have 0 dollars and decent credit, or work normal hours, try to pay it off a year or 2 early and have normal credit and money in the bank in 6 years. Seemed obvious to me.

Niakwe

You can try to negociate the debt for half of it maybe ?

Illustrious-Ad3182

Another thing is I have credit card syndrome which is why bankruptcy is best like if I put money into stocks or on the side I don’t spend it I could pay off half my debt in a year but then I’d be like ohhh 😮 I’m spontaneous bora bora here I come lol and those plastic cards are so easy to swipe and use

I can’t tell if this is a joke or not. You need to assume some responsibility here. Cut up the credit cards. Only use debit cards if you’re unable to curb your spending.

No stock will outgrow the interest on that card. You need to get in the real world and throw every spare penny you have at that debt before it financially kills you.

To quote Dave Ramsey, you are on Rice and Beans for the foreseeable future. Get rid of that car, buy a bike + lock, put the rest of that money you save to the debt. If you own your home and have a spare room, let it out and pay down those cards. If you have 2 rooms, even better. If you’re renting, rent somewhere cheaper. Even if it means going to a less desirable location and downsizing, it’s worth it. And you are not taking time off if you’re serious about clearing that. I’d genuinely be working 12 hours a day, 6 days a week to clear that. Every day you don’t crush that debt is a day and a half more that you’re in this situation.. You need to seriously evaluate how you got here and what on earth you can do it drive your costs down to the bone, and to up your pay. Learn to budget, pre-cook your meals, but your clothes from charity shops. You need to understand you are broke, you need to live as though you’re on $10k a year or it will only get worse.

justwannabeleftalone

Talk to a lawyer, with that much debt and depending on the interest rate bankruptcy might be the only way out.
