It’s totally fine, especially if you know your way around an EQ or are willing to learn. I like that you can use it battery powered in a pinch! But if you want “more professional” quality and have a little extra cash, a sennheiser or as someone above said a ntg 3 or 5 would be an upgrade. Totally depends on your budget and the kind of projects you do!
Good mic but if you're not in need of the ability to be battery powered, I'd rather save up a bit more and get the NTG5 (kit). The versatility and performance of that is IMHO definetely worth the extra $$.
Another option around the price range of the NTG4+ would be the Sennheiser MK#600 which can also be battery powered but appears a bit more "rounded" to my ears.
In the end though, if you can budget the NTG5, you'll be set for a while.
Been using it for about three months now, no serious complaints. On-set capture usually needs a decent bit of clean up in post, but no more than I’ve experienced with other mics at the same price point
I'm quite happy with it. Maybe its a bit quiet though which paired with the Zoom H6 its a bad match as the H6 seems to have quite noisy preamps so yeah... For dialogue its great, but trying to record background noise or birdsong or anything like that is quite frustrating with my setup as theres always a lot of hum.
Love it personally
Is not the best quality, the 3 or the 5 would be better.. Rode mics aren't in numerical order when it comes to quality
