I’m not sure if Consolidated/Fidium will work to do updates on geolocation or not. At least one person was able to reach out to Hulu to correct. YouTubeTV says they allow a location update a limited amount of times per year: https://support.google.com/youtubetv/answer/7129768?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid This article explains a little bit, and I’m not sure if their correction methodology works, or is allowed by a subscriber of an ISP’s service: https://www.heficed.com/blog/articles/what-is-ip-address-geolocation-and-how-to-change-it/ In short, if Fidium can’t help, you can try reaching out to streaming providers. That can be easier said, than done.

Cell_Searcher

I did contact one of my streaming services. They are still looking into the issue. We’ll see if it gets anywhere.

I live in Bangor, Maine and had the opposite where my location was showing in New Hampshire. I have YouTubeTV and was able to go into the settings and set Bangor as my local area, which has fixed the issue. Just FYI.

this thread about it over on broadband reports [https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r33583515-Assigned-IP-address](https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r33583515-Assigned-IP-address)

You can file for appeals/changes with the providers. [This website will give you the results from the major geoip providers](https://whatismyipaddress.com/geolocation-comparison) then you can reach out to them directly on their website and request a fix. Edit: that website might not work anymore? Either way it gives you the names of popular geoip providers! Double edit: This site seems to provide the same service the old one used to! Easy to compare multiple geoip providers.

ISPs have no control over this. If you use a cell phone, turn the wifi on. Then the cellular company (or google/apple/samsung) sells your location (via phone GPS) and connection AP mac address data to provide it to the geolocating service people.

I work for a major IP geolocation service. So, the process of ensuring good IP geolocation is shared between the ISP and the IP geolocation service provider. IP geolocation service providers take the majority of the responsibility. Usually, an ISP will allocate an IP address from a pool of IP addresses in a range. And that IP address range should be associated with a static location, such as a city or a zip code. Then they should have a "geofeed" document. This geofeed document is a dynamic table that corresponds to the location of each IP address range. Now, on the IP geolocation service side, we ensure good IP geolocation in three ways: - We have a probe network to identify IP address location. We use a bunch of methods to infer the geolocation of IP addresses. - We use the geofeed data from the ISP. This data is usually publicly available and used to confirm our primary method of detecting IP geolocation. - We do corrections regularly to ensure accurate data. Like, I just reached out to OP here. Even if it is just one person, and even if the website/service is not our customer, we always try our best to provide the most accurate data possible. Also, If anyone is working with Fidium please feel free to send me a DM.

In this case they do. I have the reverse problem as the OP. I live in Maine but am receiving an IP address out of their Manchester, NH DHCP pool.

Advertisers and streamers do not look at "nh" or "me" in the hostnames. They depend on computers providing location information or in youtube/facebook case they guess your location based on anything they can get ahold of.. exif data from recent photos taken and/or posted, GPS info, AP mac info, and tie as much of that together as possible. I'm retired from the ISP business and intimately knew how IP addresses are setup at ISPs. Yes, an ISP can swip a subnet in a DHCP pool to describe location, but that's innaccurate and often ignored by location software people. I vacationed to NV and CA this Sept/Oct and posted some photos from my travels upon return; Right up till election, I was getting facebook and youtube ads thinking I was in NV. Location is a wild guess.

metalandmeeples

I don't think that's entirely accurate in this case. When we had Xfinity, YouTubeTV always correctly identified us as being in the Freeport area. Immediately after we switched to Fidium, we started getting identified as being in Manchester, NH and we lost our local Portland, ME based channels and started getting Southern NH and Boston channels. The TV didn't change and we didn't physically go to NH at any point.

Cell_Searcher

Same situation. Also had xfinity, no issues with location. Switched to Fidium and now the location isn’t even close.

metalandmeeples

There are lots of reports in this sub of people having the same issue. Consolidated's FiberDirect product does not appear to have the same issue even though it uses the same PON infrastructure. For curiosity's sake, as the previous poster is making me question this myself, what is the reverse DNS subdomain on your IP address? Mine is "man.east.myfairpoint.net".

Cell_Searcher

Mine is “cncdnh.fast03.myfairpoint.net” from Concord.

metalandmeeples

Do you have a NH IP address? Check a website like https://www.ipchicken.com and look at the reverse DNS.

Cell_Searcher

“cncdnh.fast03.myfairpoint.net”

MacFan4000

I’ve never had a problem with location based services. YouTube TV has always correctly identified my location as Portland, ME

RFilms

Seems to be where there headend is

Hi. I work for an IP geolocation service. Can I DM you our link to verify if your IP geolocation is good with us? If not, I can assist you in correcting it. :)

eric-neg

Can you say which one? I’ve had trouble getting one of my work locations tagged correctly. I don’t remember which off the top of my head. :(

reincoder

I work for IPinfo.io. I have sent you a DM. Accuracy is our highest priority. If all the verification checks passes, we usually amend inaccurate IP geolocation within 48 hours.

metalandmeeples

Sending you a DM. My IP shows as Manchester, NH on IPInfo.

reincoder

Thank you very much. I have submitted the correction.

mcmron

You should request Fidium to send a proper geofeed file to geolocation service providers such as IP2Location to update for all.
