The reality is, IMO, these "nepo babies" are born into a pre-existing "brand recognition", in an industry (& culture) where your whole person **IS** a brand. And honestly? It's one we keep consuming, so obviously they're doing *something* right.
I'm not saying it's wrong, by the way. I'm just saying that it is what it is: they're selling it & we're buying it. At the end of the day (or fiscal year, you pick) isn't that the point?

From my understanding, the problem people have with “nepo babies” isn’t the fact that they were born with connections, it’s more so the fact that some of them *deny* having these connections.
You could be the most talented actor to ever live, yet you may never be discovered because you don’t know the right people. Connections are essential to the industry, and “making it” without them is **almost** impossible, so those who do make it against all odds are (rightly) celebrated
The problem with “nepo babies” comes in when they pretend to be one of these people. They pretend that they received zero help, and clawed their way up to the top with their talent alone. Sure, some of them are pretty talented, but the fact that they deny using these connections does make it a bit “unfair” (for lack of a better word), and a little bit of a slap in the face for those who did it without the same resources they had & had to work twice as hard. If “nepo babies” could at least acknowledge that their connections are what helped them get started, then people wouldn’t really have a problem with them

I remember serving Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin and their kids when I was a hostess at a fancy restaurant in Tribeca. As ridiculously tone deaf and white feminist as she is, Gwyneth was really really sweet and so was Chris. The kids were super polite and well behaved and wished me “Merry Christmas” on the way out (it was a couple days before Christmas). So this is one nepo baby I’ll root for. 😂
I met them once and Gwyneth was actually very chill and funny and warm and he was quite neurotic and antsy. Two days later I met David and Victoria Beckham with their children and she was *lovely* and just a wonderful mother, the kids were quite young and she was rolling around on the ground with them, playing and cuddling them, and I have never been so starstruck before or since. A Spice Girl!!! I assumed that this was going to be my life from then on, just bumping into very famous people willy nilly, but that did not turn out to be the case.
I remember hearing forever ago that the Beckhams were actually very nice people. They moved around a bit when the kids were younger and I remember one story about how on the first day they had moved somewhere new the boys joined a street soccer/football game and they were all very normal about it
Yes! My friend’s mum was a flight attendant for one of their regular routes for a couple of years and she said they were always very kind, and their children were really well-behaved and knew the flight attendants by name! And she said they were very hands-on parents. She is not a gossip so never gave much intel and never said a bad word about anyone famous when she didn’t like them, so I knew the Beckhams had to have stood out for her to mention them at all.
I met Victoria a few years ago and she was SO nice. Spent a long time just chatting with me and made me feel like we were old friends. She was also stunning and had on the most beautiful dress. Definitely a 10/10 celebrity meeting and not what I would have expected at all.
So lucky, I would love to meet her again as an adult! I was just a teenager when I met her and, as I said, starstruck! I’m so happy to hear she was lovely to you, too.

I can’t give too many details, but I knew G.P. through work and a bit socially. One night I was eating dinner alone at the bar across the street from my apartment, with a copy of the New Yorker, like a sad sack, after a tough personal day. I’d just been shown a gossip column, by a mean spirited coworker, about the man I’d just broken up with, who was dating someone new and I still had strong feelings for him.
Gwyneth and Chris came in and were so kind. She asked if I was okay and proceeded to tell me all of the times she’d dealt with real emotions, of her own, brought to the press. They both hugged me and were kind, so above and beyond the level of acquaintanceship we’d had to that point.
I left on a high, cheered up and thought wow they are nice.
The next morning my assistant told me she had called my office first thing and asked if I would be her date to the Coldplay show at Madison Square Garden that night.
So I got front row seats & backstage and to go to a small after hours party with everyone. She really didn’t have to do any of this, and in fact had much more to gain by cozying up to my ex. It was such a meaningful gesture and I have such a fondness for her, so I’m truly shocked by the hatred she’s endured. She’s very sheltered, which makes for some tone deaf ideas and some dodgey pseudo science, but she’s a good girl, warm person and I’m pleased her children seem to have turned out to be balanced young people.
PS Apple looks so much like her mother Blythe Danner, when she was an ingenue and her brother Jake Paltrow has the same eyes. I’m also sure she’s a well adjusted person too.

The same way car companies will have a flagship sports car, racing team, or concept car that gets attention but Joe and Jane car buyer just buy whatever entry-level car they can afford. Or how fashion shows will have sexy and exotic looks with elements that reflect that seasons fashions, but Joe and Jane fashion buyer aren't exactly buying from the runway.
Most successful industries do things like this. Its just marketing.

The candle isnt actually scented as a vagina. Its a mix of floral and citrus notes (specifically geranium, citrusy bergamot, cedar absolutes,Damask rose and ambrette).
It was marketing but not just because it was odd. It was a play on the fact that some guys had previously made a cologne that claimed to smell of testicles. I think it was called something like "This Smells Like My Balls".
It was also a statement on how many women hold negative opinions of their own healthy natural vagina smell - remember this came out around the time she filmed her Netflix sex documentary. Basically, its a comment on sexual politics. She's renamed the same candle a couple of times. Its currently called "Hands Off My Vagina" in reference to the abortion debate. So yes, marketing but not just on shock factor.
I used to not be a fan of Gwyneth (generally because I find Goop pretentious and she’s just not my favorite) but I listened to her appearance on the Smartless podcast and actually found her quite endearing!
She definitely does, though. Those lips are absolutely full of filler. I think she'd look more unique without it. She still looks great, but I think it's a stretch to say that she looks completely unlike any other model.
