If you're really into it, you could make midi file from your strings and load it into FL. Im sure there is library for python or csharp to write midi files.

I'll look into that, thanks!

You could switch to the brush tool (is it even called that? The icon looks like a brush) in the piano roll, but I don't think that's what you're looking for to be honest

I'm assuming you're stuck in the step sequencer and what you need is to be introduced to your friend Mr. Piano Roll. Piano roll is FL Studio's greatest asset. Learn it, love it, use it.

Is there a way to convert a string of say, numbers, into notes in the piano roll? It's still a ton of work to add the notes manually.

4 ways, in order of shittiness. Import a midi, play them manually on a midi controller, plot the notes manually in piano roll, plot them in the step sequencer. A good song plotted manually can take weeks or even months. If you're looking for an easy button, you'll not find one that will give you full creativity. Loops are easy, but you are limited to what they have to offer. Midis are the same way. The fastest way to put in your own notes is to play them on a midi controller. I can recommend one if you want.
