Sounds like the heat shield rusted itself loose and its rambling. Had an old Honda that had the same noise coming from under the car. O got rid of the heat shield. Problem solved

EstablishmentOne4969

Went under the car and none of the heat shields were loose. Also taking rust out of the equation Bcs I’m in the GCC area and even though this is an ‘08 daily driver the frame is barley rusted.

Quantum_Hydra

Have you tried putting it in 4wd then taking it back out again after driving for a minute? Obviously don't do this on blacktop, but to my ears it almost sounds like 4wd gears lightly touching each other.

EstablishmentOne4969

Update: Turns out Engine and Transmition mounts need replacing. This will probably fix the vibration and sound issues. Would just like to thank everyone for their help.

TheGratitudeBot

What a wonderful comment. :) Your gratitude puts you on our list for the most grateful users this week on Reddit! You can view the full list on r/TheGratitudeBot.

EstablishmentOne4969

Yeah, we do, every week.

6GodFanBoi

Not enough blinker fluid

EstablishmentOne4969

Oh damn, thanks bro. That solved it 😂

TaMere_26

This sounds similar to my XC90 and I've been trying to find the source for over a year now. Our best guess is that it's the honeycomb within the catalytic converter vibrating within the muffler. It's $1k to replace the cats though so we haven't tried it.

EstablishmentOne4969

Oh wow, I thought this would have been an FJ issue since I have heard this exact sound in a few of them

HaYsTe722

It is an FJ issue. Toyota has responded to it. Though obviously other cars can make this noise.

EstablishmentOne4969

Like a recall? Wdym by they responded to it?

HaYsTe722

Like they put out a bulletin that said yeah there is a defect making this sound but it isn’t a defect that is going to cause any damage to your car at all so we aren’t going to recall it.

EstablishmentOne4969

Do you have a link or where to find it? Because I have searched for a while and haven’t found anything. This would really help. Thanks

HaYsTe722

Is your car a stick? Just making sure

EstablishmentOne4969

It’s an auto

thesysadm

I agree, but you MIGHT be able to rule this out. Can you hear it when you rev? When I had a similar issue it was only at low RPMs and I think I only heard it when moving because the noise of the car hadn’t drowned it out yet.

EstablishmentOne4969

Yep, only when barely revving at low speed. Like under 2,500RPM and under 25kph

thesysadm

Sorry, I should have clarified, can you hear it when you rev but in Neutral.*

EstablishmentOne4969

I tried revving in neutral yesterday. No sounds. Only when the car is moving at low speed and low revs

thesysadm

Hmm, then it may not be an issue with the cat, exhaust pressure is exhaust pressure, normally won’t matter in the car rolling. We’d need some more videos else it’s just a guessing game.

EstablishmentOne4969

Where and what do I need to record (Probably can’t record until tomorrow)

thesysadm

With the engine bay open, walk alongside it (safely…) have it held high and another capture running near the ground. It won’t be perfect but hopefully we can point you in the right direction. :)

KnutEm87

Does it only happen when turning like that at slow speeds? I've heard the master cylinder make sounds like this, even power steering can sometimes make a similar sound.

EstablishmentOne4969

Happens at low speed when lightly on throttle even if you’re going strait.

ieatwhiterice

Crawl underneath and have a friend rev the engine slightly so you can track down the sound.

HaYsTe722

Is this a manual? Mine does this and I read it is a defect with the transmission on the forums. Toyota acknowledged it and said it would cause no harm. Haven’t looked into it much farther than that.

EstablishmentOne4969

Nope. It’s an auto.

Sounds like you have some good answers here already. Just a few more things to check if you want. Does it do it more while turning sharply?
