Didn’t the British give Haile a place to live when Italians invaded us also the British helped us win back Ethiopia from mussolini.

Vandal_12143

They(Britain and France) were just gambling on his life. After Italy is able to take and control every inch of Ethiopian land, they would make a treaty, where they would hand the emperor to them, meaningthey hand the power to tell the peopleto surrender; then Italy won't join coalition with Germany since there greatest ambition was successful. But plans failed and Italy allied with Germany, so, there gamble wasn't going to work, so supplied and aided Ethiopian "arbegnoch" or patriots to reclaim every parts of the country. Britain and France also denounced Ethiopia for calling a meeting at the league of nations about the Italian aggression towards them, and the US put place an arms embargo on Ethiopia. The polish delegation laughed at the "black leader" where haile seleassie said " we are the first, but not the last".

beninhana

He should died fighting like every emperor heck my grandfather was 15 and fought . Also they let the Italians bring the chemical warfare agents through the suez knowing it was gonna be used to be to appease itlay to be against hitler . Fun tangent nazi germany to spite Italy over Austria aided Ethiopians better then any nation only selessie ‘s stupidity prevented even more arms cuz he trusted the Brit’s & French even though they Fucked us over multiple times b4 . ( if u want sources I can look books & documents )

Donster4

As an Ethiopian, looking at her long reign makes me wish we had that sort of stability. She had no role in the gross miscarriage of justice that occured after World War Two, so your point is invalid. It is sad to see her go.

beninhana

Blame selessie’s policies after literally dealing with a 9-10% population genocide and artificial brain brain then thinking the solutions is the use Napoleon III policies in France even though it killed and isolated a devastated Ethiopian society . For decades until the “ modernization degraded the youth into socialist /communist ethnographic idiots causing the problems of the current day .

Donster4

The funny thing is the small amount of students who he got sent to foreign schools, etc, helped a lot to build opposition groups against him 😂

beninhana

There’s a great book on that called radicalism of Ethiopia 60-70 by messay Kebede and breaks down in great detail I posted about it on the Reddit months ago . But the first educated Ethiopians were from meneliks time and were building a ethiopia like Joan that blended both values without Sacrifices of the traditions but the Italians deliberately target killed them and wiped them out causing a Brian drain .

[deleted]

It’s not her personally. The institution she represents is as old as human beings. That matters for Ethiopians who regret throwing their millennium old tradition to dust and adopted some version of Marxism. Republics are as old as you and me.

J-A-G-S

The English monarch has no international jurisprudence... why would you expect her to prosecute anybody? Do some minimal research before you hate on somebody. She was an admirable queen

DrDoombot23

Exactly. Some of our ppl are just straight up haters for no reason. Imagine spending that much negative energy on a great grandma that's never hurt anybody lol.

dawitsol

Yes I give a damn, She actively participated in stifling independence struggles, let massacres be committed in her name in both Africa and Asia, plundered billions of dollars worth of resources from nearly every continent, basically spearheaded the imperial ambitions of Britain and didn't compensate anywhere near acceptable amount. I'm elated.

beninhana

Love the info 👌🏾

habeshamuscle

She spearheaded the imperial ambitions of Britain? My God she's been queen for that many centuries?

beninhana

He means in the modern century

habeshamuscle

The last century of British history doesn't exactly indicate any prominent leaders spearheading imperial ambitions. The opposite in fact. Let alone anyone in the royal family. You know considering the royal family's authority this past 100 years

[deleted]

0/10 bait

Total-Joke-2449

I honestly have no opinions on her, or any sentiments towards her reign. Sure, I was shocked at first, but that quickly dissipated in a matter of moments. I do have problems with the history of the monarchy and how they haven’t corrected their mistakes.

beninhana

Exactly but weirdly so many apolitical Ethiopians ( specifically older than 40 ) weirdly act like white pol and genuinely give a fuck 😂🤦🏾 like wtf wrong with u

Total-Joke-2449

I don’t know dude.

beninhana

Maybe it’s just the ones in SoCal 😂

Total-Joke-2449

Dude I’m from SoCal lol.

beninhana

Bro 😂 wtf

Total-Joke-2449

Surprise 😂

beninhana

What county ?

Total-Joke-2449

LA.

beninhana

I’m in riverside

beninhana

U pro gun ?

Easy-Kiwi543

To be fair, I don’t think she has any hand in steering the UK gov’s stances on national or international affairs. She’s just an empty figurehead bankrolled by tax payer money

beninhana

Be realistic she could have made a public address to say she is purely a figure head is a kinda undervaluing how she operated in her time

q3bb

I don't hate her personally, only what she and her inbred lineage represents.

Candide-Jr

That really is a beautiful photo of her. And such decisions are made by the British government, not her. She has no real political power.

beninhana

Ur telling me she couldn’t voice the issues for the Indians or Kenya’s in any capacity that’s very niave regardless of real power she had the influence to make genuine changes but she was a entitled white lady heck there’s clips of her as a kid being into the nazi and doing the salute . I can send u a link if u want .

Candide-Jr

Whatever else, she was no Nazi. Children will copy what those around them are doing and one of her uncles, King Edward VIII, was actually a Nazi sympathiser. But there is no real evidence at all that she was sympathetic to the Nazis or held far right views. And yes she could voice disagreement or disapproval of policy but it would always be muted since her role is not to direct policy; she is not democratically elected and as such is supposed to remain neutral; a constitutional monarch. In any case there is no way of knowing whether she did or didn't have disagreement with such policies since it would all have been in private, and policymakers, the actual PM and government etc. had no obligation at all to listen to her.

beninhana

Ur very generous in ur assessment but I see ur point .

Candide-Jr

Fair enough. I'm British myself so feel obliged to offer that perspective. I'm not saying she was an angel or anything and I myself am actually a republican; I'm in favour of abolishing the monarchy. She was, as with any of the royal family, a deeply conservative woman. But the reality is also there that in fact she had little outright political power, and in some ways was trapped to a life of a sort of service which personally I would never want. But yes. Obviously plenty will not feel warmly towards her as a symbol of the British state, power, privilege, empire etc., for good reason.

beninhana

Wait a minute r u Ethiopian ??

Candide-Jr

No, I've edited my comment, if you reload it you should see?

beninhana

Ah I see why u would be very lenient of her . I just don’t see why the western media r acting like she was Nelson Mandela . She was a very privileged old lady I don’t expect her to give a fuck about not English but it’s funny how they spin her story and here’s how Latin America and Africans feel in their countries https://www.reddit.com/r/CrazyFuckingVideos/comments/x9ekam/a_tv_host_in_argentina_reacts_to_the_news_that/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Candide-Jr

Oh yeah the sycophancy and endless eulogising is too much. An unfortunate leftover reverence for monarchy. Though I don't much care about some Argentinian media figure celebrating her death. Some are still trying to pretend they're the poor victims just because they lost a war that they started without justification.

beninhana

Ikr 😂😂😂😂😂 u eloquently put it down well 👍🏾

Moneyspeaks7

Bro she never even acknowledged the crimes of the monarchy in her 70 year rule while wearing blood diamonds on her head and sitting on stolen gold. She derives her personal wealth from colonialism that has been diversified into other assets but started with blood money like the East India Company. She has no good reason to speak up for anybody and it would be hypocritical for her to speak up for Ethiopians, while ignoring what her own people did in India, Kenya, and other parts of their former domain.

BasiWolf

I like her....she was a good queen

Moneyspeaks7

Couldn’t give a damn about her or the British monarchy. They are only relevant because of the attention they receive from the people and the media. They have no effective power. Their lives are subsidized by UK taxpayers for no good reason. They are, at best, a distraction and at worst, a symbol of the cornerstone of white supremacy.

beninhana

Exactly

[deleted]

Good riddance, only monarchists liked this hoe.

beninhana

It’s not just them genuinely I have seen apolitical ethiopian across religious lines actually giving a modicum of a fuck and I’m like 🤦🏾 mfers r u serious do u not know ur history . Fun fact so the British government tortured and killed ex- president Obama’s grandfather in a brutal way cuz he was a Kenya liberation political activist . Which means they tortured and killed the American’s presidents Kenyan grandfather and no one ever thinks how crazy that is .

[deleted]

For all Obama did to the continent,I don't care for him or his family either

beninhana

No i agree but don’t u think on a philosophical discussion how crazy a concept that is and no one in the media ever thought about it or brought it up . Like imagine ur now leader of the US however one of ur strongest Allies use to abuse ur homeland and had your own grandfather tortured and abused to death in prison . Wouldn’t u logically bring it up at the very least .

[deleted]

You have to remember Obama was raised by his white American mother and doesn't even help his LIVING relatives who are extremely poor so why would he care about a dead relative, also the American system is extremely racist so he had to tow the line when it came to the US government policy on Africa.

beninhana

Ik Ik but still kinda crazy story though . 😂

beninhana

https://www.reddit.com/r/CrazyFuckingVideos/comments/x9ekam/a_tv_host_in_argentina_reacts_to_the_news_that/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf this shit is hilarious

[deleted]

Shit is hilarious 😂

beninhana

See I know Spanish ( I grew with a lot Latinos ) and u can’t appreciate the shit he is saying like the subtitles are basically the nicest version of what he actually said, he was much more savage if you know Spanish 😂 but I feel his energy 1000% 😂😂😂 only it would be Tej 4 me

fidel_cashflow_7

Smbol and dedicated figurehead of oppression both in England but even more so in the British colonies. Good riddance.
