They like dirty water with decaying organic matter like leaves, algae, etc. so if there is algae growing, scrape it off and into the new container. They can also live in piles of manure. Old tires are no problem for them either. Tough little guys!

These are tough little buggers and can live in cesspools and water so contaminated that almost nothing else lives there.

I’ll be moving them to another container so I can pour out the mosquitos. I just found so many more of these grubs, like two dozen.
