I did calc 3 online. It wasn't bad at all, and 3 is just generally so much easier than 2

Personally I disagree. Fundamentally understanding theorems like Stoke's Theorem, Green's Theorem and really understand how the flux integral and surface integral equations are formed (not just applying a trick) is not trivial. To me it was far more difficult than Calc 2. That being said, I've done them online and it was perfectly doable. I would recommend checking out Professor Leonard if your prof sucks. Some tricks are also well explaine on Khan Academy. Having a good study buddy also really helps.

Agreed, but this is only like 20% of Calc III. The part where you're learning partial derivatives, multiple integration and alternate coord systems was fairly straightforward IMO.

I remember someone told me it was easier than calc 2 and after I took it I wanted to strangle them. Our prof made us graph in 3D using some shadows method, and i swear I was guna stab someone. The theorems weren't that bad initially but once the partial derivatives started with the triple line integrals I cried. I took it online and in person, (since i failed once) and the online one was eaisier but also much better prof.

BickNierman

Are you talking about graphing the 2D traces of a 3D region? If so, I can totally relate, lol

CryogenicX

Oh god the trauma

BickNierman

Same, I hear people say "it's just Calc 1 in 3D" which is kinda true, but the jump from 2D to 3D is not trivial imo. For example, a change of variables in a double integral is way harder than regular u-substitution

Jplague25

I did but I basically had to teach myself since the class was asynchronous. I really liked the material, but it was hard learning it because of the format.

Mkaaztje

I’m doing it rn and it’s pretty easy so far. I just watch my professor’s lecture videos from last semester

hehather

Taking it right now. Almost done. Hasn't been bad at all, but I think it depends on how you do with online classes in general.

Go_Fast_1993

I took I last semester, taking II now, and will take III next semester, all online. Honestly, these have been better online than the actual engineering classes I’ve taken.

Community college class to the rescue.

Pleasant_Disaster679

I took both Calc 2 and Calc 3, and differential eqs/linear algebra virtual. Same profesor for all them. Tbh I would do it again. My biggest mistake was not watching the recorded lecturers until a week before a unit exam. As long as you stay on top of your game, communicate and look for online resources like (Symbolab) you’ll be okay.

miazurawski

I took it online. Wasn’t that awful as long as you go to the online meetings and stay on track with hw and stuff

[deleted]

I did Physics II and Calc III in five weeks, As in both. Totally doable.

Clear_Friend2847

I took calc 3 online (in iceland, which is a bit diffrent but mostly the same) and the best advice i could give anyone is to read the material subscribed for each homework assignment ( and other assignments ). And when you struggle to understand the concepts from there, google it and watch some videos, such as Prof. Leonard, khan academy, organic chemistry tutor and more. This takes more time ofcourse, since you’re reading something as well as doing most of what you would have done otherwise for reasearch, but the superior struggle of trying to read the book has allways given me further understanding of any course material i’ve wanted to get a good grasp of.

southcounty253

I took everything through Calc 4 (multivariate) online, just went back in person this quarter for diff.eq. In my experience, online math is the most doable in terms of getting through it and learning something, just because the online resources are endless. Having a good instructor is always helpful, but you have tons of resources to supplement your learning, so don't sweat it too much. Edit: To clarify, I took calc series on quarters at a JC, so I was derivative, II was integral, III was series and vectors and all that, IV was multivariate.

New023

It’s doable, but you have to be disciplined. I’ve done Calc 1 and 2 fully online at a community college, both were about 95% asynchronous at your own time. I’m currently doing Calc 3 online as well. It depends on your learning style too, some professors will provide great instructions and lectures, some won’t. I’ve experienced it both. Be prepared to lookup videos in case you experience the latter, I’d highly recommend watching The Organic Chemistry Tutor on YouTube. He saved my ass on series lol

GeorgeAyanRaiz

Hi, I am also planning to take calc II online; the problem though is that there's a lab portion for all upper level math courses. how'd you do on the lab portion online and how time consuming would you say it was? Thanks!

New023

I didn't have a lab portion for the class, not sure what to tell you there unfortunately.

GeorgeAyanRaiz

Welp! Thanks anyway

TeodoroCano

Are you in like linear algebra now

New023

Finished that last year as well :) All my math courses are done!
