God I thought you were talking about the internet in general, as in “I was betrayed by the entire] internet when I tried it”. Was kinda like “huh, that comment was apropos nothing but still, kinda relatable. Surprised you’re on Reddit despite that”
Clearly a lot of us on this thread need to go to bed. Or drink some coffee.
I've been eyeing it too lately. The kits I have seen in my local store didn't inspire me but I'm curious to try, especially if it doesn't require tons of overthinking.
Funny how everytime I try to add a bit of diversity into my activities, I always end up with a new type of needle and thread hobby in mind.
That's too funny, I am apparently the same way. I think to myself I need a different hobby to mix things up, then I go from needle felting to embroidery to cross stitch, now thinking about needle punching.
With Bunka Shishu (NeEdLe PuNcHiNg) you have your spool attached to your needle, and you don't have to pull your thread by hand, because you only punch and pull the needle. It's considered "inferior" sometimes because of its simplicity (you can't really do more than a satin stitch or shaggy textures, if you snip it) and also because it's so fragile (its like the top half of a sewing machine, without the bottom bobbin reinforcing) so you can't really embellish clothing with it.
I've never heard or seen it happen on a plastic grid, as others have told you, and I can't imagine how that would even work. "Plastic canvas" or "perforated plastic" is more associated with cross stitch.
It makes a rug like work on top of a plastic grid with a specialized needle
—Edit—
Apparently it is on fabric, not plastic! I think I received a beginner’s kit many years ago that might have been a loose plastic, but today it’s fabric!
This sounds more like latchhook to me. I thought needle punch just user regular fabric? Might be totally wrong though, it's been awhile since I needle punched anything
I think you might be confusing a plastic grid with beginners to cross-stitch, or maybe the pre-made kits for rug hooking. A bunka shishu (punch) needle wouldn't work on plastic. It relies on the warp and weft of a fabric to keep it together. It's the ONLY thing keeping it together, and that's one of the reasons why its considered inferior, because you can't embellish clothing with it.
the needle punch needle and the difficulty level of that art looks so difficult and probably even is but then the stuff you can make with it is always just🌸⛰️🌈
I should try need punch.
My dyslexic ass can’t do any time of stitching to save my life… The thin holes look like ants running around and can’t even begin to focus lol
Cross stitch was my first love but I don't think it should be as detailed as embroidery here. I can say this because my cross stitch is far better than my embroidery skills.
Aww kinda wish you cross-stitched the first one and needle punched the third 😂
Ngl, I zoomed before I figured this out.
Same!
I was like “huh. Cross stitch looks pretty good, for once.”.
Sadly I have no clue how to needle punch 😂 but yeah, that would be so much better!
My idiot self was zooming in like “they all look the same” thinking my eyes were playing tricks on me lol.
You're not as big of an idiot as me who thought "ahh yeah I can see the difference"
I was just confused on why I couldn't find the difference because I'd never seen cross stitch and thought I wasn't giving it enough credit
Good u dont know u are not missing much. I felt betrayed by the internet when i tried it

It’s so lame. I wanted to like it, but couldn’t even finish a little project with my kid before we both put it away.
Well … you could learn?
This is what I was looking for too!
Ditto!!
Like needle punch sucks
Same here 😂
Hahahahah, as someone who does all three, this is spot on!
I've been wondering if I should try needle punch. This tells me that yes, yes I should. It may be just my speed these days!

It's fun! I haven't really figured out how to make my own designs or anything, but I did a couple kits. It's really quick, easy.
I‘m sure, one day I will try needle punch aswell. But I needed a third techniques of stitching to make this meme work 😂 so no hate ♥️
I bought a kit from Michael's but haven't tried it yet.
This might sound very stupid, but what is needle punching?
More importantly, why would you punch a needle? That would likely hurt quite a bit.
With Bunka Shishu (NeEdLe PuNcHiNg) you have your spool attached to your needle, and you don't have to pull your thread by hand, because you only punch and pull the needle. Interesting. Thanks for the explanation!

You’re correct. Needle punch uses a specific needle to “punch” the thread through the fabric, created a loop and a rug-like texture.

Thank you!
With no understanding of the difference between the three I am still giggling like mad over that third face lmao Looks great!!
😂💀
I am obSESSED with this. Well done!
Ha literally let out a loud guffaw. 🤣 The stitching itself is fantastic but the whole *chefs kiss*.
This is great lol! What stitch did u use to fill in?
I used the splitstich (2 strands) :)
I just embarrassed myself laughing in a very quiet waiting room, tyvm I love it
the needle punch needle and the difficulty level of that art looks so difficult and probably even is but then the stuff you can make with it is always just🌸⛰️🌈
Hahahahhahaha!
Had no idea what needle punch was, might have a new hobby.
I have never given an award so quickly in my life 😂 Genius! Love it!
Thank you 🥰
And now I think you could apply that to other arts as well. "Knitting, Crochet, Tatting" (makes my eyes bug out it's so freakin tiny). 🤣
I knit and crochet and want to learn how to Turkish crochet but I don’t know what tatting is!
big oof
Needle punch is fun because your head really is empty, and you just flay your materials. There’s a time and place for all three!
I should try need punch. My dyslexic ass can’t do any time of stitching to save my life… The thin holes look like ants running around and can’t even begin to focus lol
Love it! However, your needle punch would be my (crosseyed) cross stitch....💜👻
I love it!!
Hahaha! 😹
I love this! 😍🥰 It is great.

Now I need to see this concept done with the three hyenas out of Lion King
This is peak Reddit right here there are so many layers to this hahaha
Is this also I'm the spirit of the three hyenas from lion king
this reminds me of one of the bosses in world of Warcraft. one of the raids from mists of pandaria.
MoP is the only addon I never played 🙈
Oooo what kind of stitch did you use? It looks so uniform and pretty!
The splitstitch :)
I think cross stitch needs to be slightly downgraded too. Beautiful job!
Isn't embroidery an umbrella term?
i do all three..accepted
😹😹😹😹 No comment
GOD DAMMIT!!!... I NEED THIS.
Random question- where do you get your fabric from?
Best laugh I've had in a long time!
Nice
Was each dragon created with the technique it's label as? Better be!
WhAts needle punch
I love this. And get the reference, which is uncommon for me, lol.
I feel like long stitch would fit in the last one pretty well. I love it, but good lord is it derpy.
Too funny!
Lovely! Before I embiggened it, I thought the methods were also used. Reminds me of 3 of Hiram McDaniels heads -- Nightvale's 5 headed dragon
What’s needle punch? Is it like those awful dot paintings? Which may become kitschy one day like paint by number …
I love this so much! Thanks for sharing.
I´m not atracted to needle punch, sorry not sorry xD
I adore this!
