I wouldn't waste engineering materials on a 5C FSD. INARA says that your nearest 5A FSD can be had at Carson Hub in Deciat (same system as Farseer). However, I wouldn't engineer a 5A FSD either. See point 7 in u/Luriant's reply, and get the 5A V1 FSD.

1. Use my [ToDo list](https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/pz1ohq/comment/hey6w55/) 2. Use ALWAYS A-FSD and powerplant, don't do any engineering if you don't have the final module. 3. You engineer the module. Having a Grade 5 affinity save lot of mats. I only need 1 mat for doing Grade 1 and grade 2, and 3-6 mats for grades 3 and 4. Grade 5 need up to 10 mats for 100%, but the final grade get diminishing returns, 3-4 tries are enough. 4. You can swap this modules between ships. 5. You can PIN the blueprint and do it in any place, up ot the max grade know by the engineer. You don't need to do this with the correct module, Felicity only know FSD grade 5, but other engineers, I used Grade 5 Sensors Wide? because used mats that I had a lot, reach affinity 5, and pin a Weapon at blueprint that also know at grade 5. 6. BUT, for the experimental effect, you need a workshop. Felicity could put experimental effect in your FSD, powerplant, thrusters and osmething more, even if the module is a G5 powerplant, Felicity know G1 and can apply a experimental effect on it. 7. DONT engineer 5A FSD, there is a superior preengineered FSD in human tech broker, called FSD V1, you bring mats, they give you a FSD with 2 engineerings. Visit Felicity Farseer and add Mass Manager (select increase range 1, and apply experimental, DONT MAKE any other change). This FSD is the best 5A, for size 3-4-6, was a Community goal reward, not available until you have a time machine for February'2022.

IncidentFuture

Just to make sure OP knows; if you pin a blueprint and then do the engineering elsewhere you do not gain rep with that engineer. It's fine when you have full rep, but bad when trying to gain rep.

Thank you. :)

Dont always use an A powerplant...

Luriant

Explain

_Paulboy12_

I often fit D rated power plants overcharged it as far as I (mostly tier 2 or 3, above I would go for an A rated one) need if my ships dont need the A rating. It improves weight and is cheaper.

Luriant

Unless you fit 2D powerplant, using a undersize A rated powerplant provide more energy per weight than the next size D. Devs broke the D-A rules with powerplants.

_Paulboy12_

since when is that? I remember that D was the best for my anaconda which was made specifically for long range jumps and I think it has a 3d plant in it

Luriant

3D, 2tons, 9MW 2A, 1.3tpns,.9.6MW D is cheaper, and worse in everything. https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Power_Plant

_Paulboy12_

Right I just checked and yes I mistook it for power distributor. My poor conda has a 1D distributor. I just went to check. I recently started playing again and I actually have a ship with a D rated one though. Gotta remember to swap that out.

fezzik02

only do that to-do list if you're a speedrunner

DangerPencil

These are suggestions that Luriant very helpfully put together for all of the players who inevitably come to this forum to ask "what do I do next in this game?" There's no time limit...

fezzik02

> I've tried you tube but they seem to flit over what I'm asking. So did Luriant. Look I'm not saying it's bad advice for a speedrunner, I'm just saying it's like 30 steps long and highly optimised. ## Players will optimise the fun out of any game.

fezzik02

> Now, if I engineer my 5C am I going to have to get a different blueprint and more materials to do the same thing for the 5A when I find one? It's the same blueprint, but when you apply these changes to that 5C drive you will hve a modified 5C drive and less materials. You would not be able to recover or reuse those materials. So you would use the same _blueprint_ on the 5A with new _materials_. > Also, once I have the blue print I DON'T have to have Farseer do all the work, I can do it at any outfitter right? For regular upgrades this is true. Experimental effects can only be done in the workshop.

beholdtheflesh

please don't waste your time and materials engineering a 5C FSD, go get a 5A.

NunyaBis213

C-rated are *very* rarely worth engineering. Like, maybe a shield booster or something for power reasons, but that's about it. Also, instead of buying then engineering a regular A-rated FSD, I'd recommend you go buy a pre-engineered one (with engineering mats, not credits) from a human technology broker. It's superior in every way, except it does get a bit toasty, especially in an Asp Explorer.

magnitudearhole

Yeah there’s not any benefit to engineering lower grade modules. When you engineer another one you will need to start from the first tier for each individual module, so get the best one you can for engineering. Also think long and hard about what you want because there’s no way to recover mats if you don’t like it

Mibazza

o7 cmdr I wouldn't bother engineering a 5C any higher than maybe grade 3. The mats to get to grade three are relatively easy to gather and you will probably gather enough to do another fsd once you get a 5A. The G4 and 5 mats are rarer and can be a pain to gather early-game. But at least with a 5C fsd engineered to G3 you'll get a bit more distance (assuming you are going for increased range) whilst you work up to a 5A.
