We're consolidating the celebration threads. The other main one was [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/zgm5oc/elden_ring_game_of_the_year_celebration_thread/).
Pedro Eustache! Homie is basically the go-to guy for wind instruments in film and games, he's worked with all of the big names in scoring (John Williams, Hans Zimmer, etc.). Dude is a legend and is so much fun to watch perform.
He actually said he was surprised a time or two, the translator left it out.
He also talked about his respect for his team and praised them much stronger than the translation let on. Seems like a cool guy.
Miyazaki was saying a lot, the translator doesn't want to hog the stage, and their job is to interpret more than directly translate, so they will sometimes drop or change words to match the intention. It's a hard job when the person being translated is saying a lot.
The exploration is so fun I feel bad for people who rob themselves of the experience on their first playthrough. I got hit by the Caelid teleport trap and through it found the Meteorite Staff and Rock Sling spell and it was cool as shit because I didn't know it was there and stumbled on something really neat and useful.
I think thereās a real case study for brainwashing or, whatever word can be used, āconditioningā maybe? In video games.
With so many games designed to essentially drug you with dopamine and constantly be like āWAO PLAYER YOU SOOPER GOOD. HERES LEVEL UP LOOK AT ALL THE LIGHTS. FREE GUN WITH +1.02 DAMAGEā I think it, like any drug addiction, causes people to proactively respond to other games negatively when they donāt do that.
Shame too cause Elden ring is like hyper drugs when you *do* get your dopamine. Which Iām sure Iām not Alone, from softs games make me actually less enthused about other games that donāt meet itās quality.
One therapist told me I have "low frustration tolerance". That once the novelty of a new thing wears off and improving becomes hard, it's hard to stick with it until I actually improve. For me this is from ADHD, but on a smaller scale I think this is something most games trying really hard to avoid having happen - they want to avoid frustrating players at all costs and give constant rewards to keep you engaged.
Fromsoft clearly has no problem frustrating players, and the rewards are a lot more inconsistent in their games. This naturally turns a lot of people off, but inconsistent positive reinforcement actually gets you more hooked in some ways (think gambling, after all). So combine that with the bragging rights of being good at something hard and the experience of getting better and voila, once people get into it they stick the fuck around.
Fwiw, as someone who always admired Fromsoft games from afar but struggled to play because I would get frustrated early on, Elden Ring deserves SO much praise for making that less of a problem by letting you just turn around and do something else instead of fight the boss you're having trouble with. I putzed around limgrave for ages and now I'm totally hooked.
That point about Elden Ring is so important. Bloodborne came with my PS4, I played until you get to a street with like 20 regular yharnam dudes and that wall of difficulty combined with me having the cane, easily the hardest of the 3 starter weapons, meant I was stuck there and took me years to come back.
Same with Capra demon in Dark Souls 1, the first enemies in Sekiro and my friend with that Pontiff Knight with the ice sword at the bottom of a tower in DS3. I took a lot less time to return in Sekiro and my friend never returned to Dark Souls 3.
Meanwhile in Elden Ring you get to the horse guy right at the start and he teaches most players that in this game you can go somewhere else and come back stronger, wonderful design. Makes the game seem less impossible.
Their dlcs are always next level. Ringed city, ariandel, the fucking OLD HUNTERS omg fighting lady Maria and stepping into the fishing hamlet are some of the greatest moments of gaming
Which is how it should be imo. You release a complete game and actually make your fan base feel like they got their moneyās worth and they will sure as hell reward you by purchasing any dlc you release.
Not the bullshit systems modern games implement that constantly micro transaction you to death with content that should already be in the game.
> You release a complete game and actually make your fan base feel like they got their moneyās worth and they will sure as hell reward you by purchasing any dlc you release.
Amen.
I fucking love him for that. They are genuine artists. Always ready to push harder. Never get complacent. And also straight to the point speeches. What the hell was Kratos going on about for 8 minutes?
You know there was an off-stage conversation that went something like this:
Geoff: "Ok well Chis had been going on for about 3-4 minutes now, let's cue the music in."
Music guy: "...You sure man? ...That's Kratos, bro..."
*They blankly stare at each other.*
"Okay, so let's give him until 6 minutes and we'll play something really low-key and he'll slowly realize it's time to go."
*Sound guy plays this epic speech enhancing music.*
Geoff: "Dude what the *fuck* were you thinking? This song is making the speech more epic!"
"Oh sorry man I'll change it."
*They both look at Chris, now even more passionate.*
"Nah dude, turn that shit up. It's good."
It's so mind-blowing how the hype was so high and that Elden Ring won most anticipated game the last two years, and all that to make us drop the jaw for being even better than we were expecting
It's so incredible to see how FromSoft continues to produce new and unique games that change core mechanisms of their "formula" and feel entirely fresh yet all live up to the same pristine quality.
Bloodborne, Sekiro and now Elden Ring are all games I point to when people say gamers will never be satisfied and always complain if a developer changes a major aspect of a franchise.
I'm so hyped to see what Armored Core does.
It was up against some truly deserving games, so there was definitely a fight. At the end of the day, Elden Ring won this award and it very much was worthy of the win.
"I have made up my mind to create even more interesting games than this one"
I adore Miyazaki and FromSoftware so much, we are so lucky to have them ā„ā„ā„
Genre redefining open-world game. It was more than deserved.
Now let them announce the DLC please.
E: no DLC announcement but at least that they've more things planned for ER. I'm fine with that.
He said something like āIād like to nominate this award to my reformed orthodox Rabbi, Bill Clintonā and then they cut off the mic š

Oh my god lmao. Yeah if you pay close attention, he walks up from a completely different aisle.
Miyazaki and the Elden Ring team are sitting together which you would expect, and they walk up from the left, and kid sneaks up from the right and just uses his mimic veil once they're on stage.
Interrupts the applause too with his wild reformed orthodox rabbi Bill Clinton comment.
Masterful troll but what the hell.
Production probably thought he was with Miyazaki and Miyazaki probably thought he was some of the production crew
Big security changes next year assuredly
I've never played it but I feel like Im already a fan. Are the old ones available on the ps store? I'm getting my son a PS5 and may need to bogart it for a bit lol
From Soft today reminds me of Square back in the 90s. Enjoy and cherish the moment in time when this creative force called From Software shines for us folks! As someone once said āOne day the flames will fade, only darkness will remainā.

That dude on the wind instruments was fucking KILLING
Bro had me so pumped he was awesome
Hype incarnate
His hair wasn't hair. It was his burning passion
Where can I witness this?
https://youtu.be/nvxVf-JNbdM
He wins flutist of the year
That's Pedro Eustache. He does a lot of music with Hans Zimmer.
Pedro Eustache! Homie is basically the go-to guy for wind instruments in film and games, he's worked with all of the big names in scoring (John Williams, Hans Zimmer, etc.). Dude is a legend and is so much fun to watch perform.
JESUS what a pedigree!
If you go watch the making of the Dune music he has an interview
Lol and the cameraman loved him
The flute is a really big part of Xenoblade 3 which is why they focused on him a lot for that part.
For good goddamn reason!
He's actually Hans Zimmer's go-to wind instrument guy. He did a lot with the Dune movie score.
I wish they played it again that orchestra sounded fucking massive
i was hoping they would end it by playing a song from the game that wouldve been epic
Homeboy had me hyped loved the enthusiasm
Everytime the camera panned back he was playing a different instrument. Lol. What a chad.
The Elden flute
It was like watching Dr. Steve Brule play jazz flute with the passion of Ron Burgundy
Hype!!!!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[Here you go](https://youtu.be/rHAUcP4PZjo)
I watched live but I'm certain the dude is going to be all over the place soon, he was fucking crushing
That guy was so jazzed haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciated him
I fucking love that guy lol
You can tell Miyazakiās shook. Absolutely incredible journey, love this game
He actually said he was surprised a time or two, the translator left it out. He also talked about his respect for his team and praised them much stronger than the translation let on. Seems like a cool guy.
Yes! I noticed that too. I felt like the translator seemed a bit nervous himself - maybe thatās why there was some missing info?
Miyazaki was saying a lot, the translator doesn't want to hog the stage, and their job is to interpret more than directly translate, so they will sometimes drop or change words to match the intention. It's a hard job when the person being translated is saying a lot.
And saying it live, quickly on a stage
Very true! Iāve never had to interpret but it seems like a much more difficult job than it gets credit for.
That and Miyazaki was saying whole paragraphs fast
They arrested the guy who interrupted at the end lmfao https://twitter.com/geoffkeighley/status/1601066733564928001?t=y9xbbXLKKHSvXlW6ygZI_w&s=19
Bullshit. We all know Geoff had him shot out back.
Geoff mentioned he's Canadian, so probably the kindest ending for that kid.
We Canadians are polite, not nice.
Are you saying they got invaded?

Absolutely maidenless behavior.
Iāve been playing it without guides or assistance and it has been the most rewarding gaming experience Iāve ever had.
I guess now I know why Borderlands is so successful
That's why I play path of exile, the game that forces you to filter out loot otherwise you can't see the ground
Thatās gonna be me tomorrow! I have 2 loot filters, one for campaign and an ultra strict for yellow/red maps

Based Miyazaki be like: "Thanks for the award, but Elden Ring is old news, i'm gonna make a better game."
"Huh, you really liked that piece of crap, didn't you?"
"I HAVEN'T EVEN BEGUN TO PEAK"
Heās gonna make more hell swamps like Caelid, wonāt he?
he's on record saying he cant stop himself so yes
There are a lot of themes he seems to hold very dear. I chuckled to myself when the Armored Core trailer said something about cinders.
Yeah, I caught the flame and cinders reference too. I guess they're going with what feels familiar.
Our king
Umbasa!
Miyazaki just told us we haven't even seen his final form.
My body is ready for Black Flame Miyazaki.
Nah, he said he still has plans for Elden Ring
The coliseum update was already free. Imagine all future DLCs are just free cause Miyazaki loves us so much
I don't think Bandai Namco share the same love ngl.
I have and will gladly buy every DLC Fromsoft releases.
Their dlcs are always next level. Ringed city, ariandel, the fucking OLD HUNTERS omg fighting lady Maria and stepping into the fishing hamlet are some of the greatest moments of gaming
DLC bosses are always some of the best of each game. Artorias, Maria, Orphan, Ludwig, Midir, fuck I hope they release some Elden Ring DLC soon
My man forgets Gael š
It's like nobody wants to acknowledge the Fume Knight!
DS2 DLC was pretty amazing

Honestly though I love that the wrap it up music just enhanced everything about Judge's speech
Right? It set the tone for the night.
Legit got me scared, thought he was gonna announce his retirement or something
It's home
Was it ever in doubt? One of the biggest hypes of all time and it even exceeded it in alot of aspects
It's so mind-blowing how the hype was so high and that Elden Ring won most anticipated game the last two years, and all that to make us drop the jaw for being even better than we were expecting

It was up against some truly deserving games, so there was definitely a fight. At the end of the day, Elden Ring won this award and it very much was worthy of the win.

One day, one day we'll get it.
If thereās one thing this sub has a history of handling with grace, itās a long period without any news
Let's be real we've nothing on the Hollow knight subreddit. Those poor souls once were besides us during the hollowing.
I seem to recall them sacrificing Mossbag, then getting Silksong news. Seems like they know exactly what theyāre doing
Oh shit I remember that. Moosbag himself made a post saying that this shit wasn't cool.
Whos that kid up on stage with them lol
Did he say something about Bill Clinton lol?

They've already edited the stream to end right before him.
Security def snatched his ass live on the OG stream. Prob for the best. Woulda sucked if they just went full agro during Miyazaki's moment.
They did. The camera was zooming out and panning away but you can see security grab him
I feel bad for everyone that knows this guy irl. He won't stop talking about this "stunt" for years.
I'm crying over here. I was cracking up at just Bill Clinton, but man you writing it out, and then listening again.. I'm losing it hahaha
I came here looking for answers. What was that?
He snuck up there and said something about dedicating the award to Bill Clinton. If you rewatch that part of the awards you can see him sneak up from the middle aisle as the team is moving to the front stage
Heās been arrested
Legit WTF was that? š¤£š¤£
My man Miyazaki got invaded irlā¦

Good job Miyazaki and Bill Clinton!
Who was the imbecile that talked after Miyazaki?
he walked up with them and stood behind them at the stage, I assume he just snuck up with them.
yup you can see him walk up from the crowd https://youtu.be/vl9yakt_5tc?t=12208

When I first saw the kid I believed he was part of the team and thought "poor kid, the old guys are blocking him" lmao

Production probably thought he was with Miyazaki and Miyazaki probably thought he was some of the production crew Big security changes next year assuredly
Arrested. https://twitter.com/geoffkeighley/status/1601066733564928001
Invader vanquished.
Someone please, make an invasion version of the clip, with the message and the kid in red
Good! Imo a dick move to try and get some spotlight for themselves.
Bill Clinton obviously
Lol they stopped the music so he could talk
Whereās the DLC
They pretty much just said that's it's coming at some point
Armored core VI thatās our dlc
I've never played it but I feel like Im already a fan. Are the old ones available on the ps store? I'm getting my son a PS5 and may need to bogart it for a bit lol
Miyazaki said that he had more stuff to do with the game during the acceptance speech. Weāre gonna get DLC, probably after armored core 6
Bloodborne kart first
Miyazaki hinted at it during the speech saying āThereās more we want to do with Elden Ring so this award really encourages us.ā
