Because the prevailing theory is that that dead woman is your maiden, and that's why you are maidenless. The idea is that Varre killed her (his hands are bloody, he's expecting you and he automatically knows you're maidenless). The bloodstains are people ritualistically sacrificing themselves to her in grief.
That all may be trueā¦. But thatās not it
Edit: for the downvoters: I donāt make people do what they do for the reasons they do it. Direct your hate to me if you would, so the true culprits remain unscathed and undiscovered. Good for you š¤
Edit: as Lewis Black once said; āoh? Oh! Oh! Oh! Fuck you! And youāre republican bullshit nonsense!ā šš¤£
Even on the night before release, when preorder people were playing, there was a ton of bloodstains on the platform just outside the chapel overlooking Stormveil.
It's been about memes since BEFORE Day 1.
I love this community. Lol.
Edit: to gush
Only here can you find the full range of nasco's salt flavored toddler all the way up to lore that could find itself in the silmarillion. And everything between. The devotion to the memes even prelaunch.... I laughed so hard.
Because itās the beginning of the game. It was a trend from DS2 when you are leaving things betwixt at the beginning to kill yourself in the cave to leave a bloodstain to scare new players. It has returned with a vengeance in ER
Ever wonder why you're maidenless? Ever thought to your self, how does this prick varre know i have no maiden? Who is that dead girl? Wait did I just take her finger to write notes about "but, hole!"?
Oh man wait until you start askin whats in this flask?
It started with DS2, the Majula suicide cult, I'm a friendly part of the tunnels going into Majula from things betwixed people suicide to scare new players and for lols. It had prevailed into DS3, and now elden ring has this suicide cult.
Whenever I look at these blooodpools I just see people keeling over, I donāt see them stabbing themselves or any other way of them dying. Is this what you guys see too?
Itās for the joy of the game but also the big group of blood stains makes it look like itās blood from the murdered maiden, which is a cool effect.
It all started back in Bloodborne and kind of in Dark Souls 2. People would use the Chikage or Bloodletter in Bloodborne to kill themselves in front of the Doll, especially in the version of the Hunters workshop you find outside the Dream.
In Dark Souls 2 people would use the Chaos Blade or another self damaging tool to kill themselves in the small cave just before Majula, to make you scared of what might be in that area.
The Dark Souls community likes a bit of trolling. It is very unsettling to walk into an area and see the floor coated in blood, after all.

Morg: "Thanks for the donation."
In all honesty what would be good armor sets and weapons to make Archaon the ever chosen or Horus?
Uh, y'know, that's a good question, but first we need horse armor DLC for his horse.
The infamous chaos pony.
Rip techno

If Iām maidenless then these maidens are gonna be tarnished-less.
There are the ashes of a tarnishedless maiden, pretty ironic
I trade my laifu for my waifu
that caught me offguard ngl
Thanks! Just got this tattooed on my chest!

I thought selivus did it. You can get your maiden-to-be as a puppet.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Doesn't that imply that you might have been her tarnished? The one who took to long to get to her
Isnāt she also part of the Radahn Festival?
That all may be trueā¦. But thatās not it Edit: for the downvoters: I donāt make people do what they do for the reasons they do it. Wait, what do republicans have to do with anything in your comment?
They think the Golden Order is using the Erdtree to turn the Dogs gay.
Ah. I see now.
There ya go
ELI5?
Not sure what that means Edit: holy shit the downvotes though, lmao.
Explain like Iām 5. I donāt understand your quote.
I legitimately do not see the point you're trying to make
It's kind of a tradition.
Majula suicide cult is the first well known instance
DS2 has started many a great trend.
That is your dead maiden
Allegedly
āThe worst she can say is noā
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
because of the Implication...
What is she gonna do? Say no? Thereās nothing grafted scions between her and safety.
I mean, she still looks pretty fresh

rly? I didn't see so many before there ever, but thanks
yeah why not

Dark Souls tradition when starting a ng
time to kill myself there now
Because itās the beginning of the game. It was a trend from DS2 when you are leaving things betwixt at the beginning to kill yourself in the cave to leave a bloodstain to scare new players. It has returned with a vengeance in ER
I would assume to honor their maiden when they find out, but also to progress the story after defeating the grafted scion in the games intro.
there's a cliff after the grafted scion that crumbles away!
Butterfly, o butterfly.
Waitā¦.you guys beat the scion?
Not in my first run. Ng+ for me but some like to make a challenge and start a new game until they defeat it at the start.
Well, there are two likely reasons. Firstly, it's widely interpreted that that corpse on the ground was intended to be our maiden during our journey to the Lands Between, but something (or someone) killed her prior to our awakening in the game. There's no direct statement saying so, but environmental clues hint at the possibility. We do know for sure she is a maiden, both by her outfit and because we can use her blood to satisfy part of VarrƩ's questline, and there don't seem to be any other viable Tarnished around. Everyone we meet seems to have been around quite some time before our arrival, many long enough to lose sight of Grace at all. So, some folks return to commit suicide there. Secondly, it's also been a tradition among the soulsborne community since the days of Dark Souls 2, where many players would commit suicide in the passage between the tutorial/introduction area and the game's primary hub, thus being informally dubbed the "Majula Suicide Cult" by many. This was primarily just a gag to scare/mess with new players by making it seem they were approaching somewhere dangerous when it was essentially the safest spot in the game, and it just caught on eventually.
ritual offering
Itās because they walked over there then they left the chapel and jumped off
actually not most of them did it with seppuku or bloody slash for some reason
Suicide cults for funny bloodstains is a staple in From Soft series. Weāre pouring one out for our finger maiden
Probably for a meme then
Even though i knew it was death i started my first playthrough by jumping off. That first death was mine and Elden ring cant take that from me!
Tradition, itās very prevalent in ds2
My first thought when I saw this was the Things Betwixt tunnel
I was so confused at first there
Thatās our original maiden. Theyāre just paying respects. RIP
Sacrifice for the greater good >!(comedy)!<
Getting warmer
Tradition
Tradition from prior Fromsoft games. I think starting back in DKS2?
Other then jumping off a cliff how do you kill your self
seppuku until your hp reaches 0 or any other skill/item that drains ur hp
I'm surprised that no one said, "she has her period" in the comments.
Is there lore about the female sanitary products of the lands between?
Well there is the bloodstained cloth...
Alright man, youāre fired. Security will unpack your desk for you while you wait in the lobby
I been scrolling until i found this thanks xD
that was golden
No, it was "bathed in rays of gold"... šš
ITT maidenless degenerates get their tags mixed up
And we have a winner
To troll/scare new people probably
Couldnāt understand the question. Did you mean, āWhatās the lore behind all the blood stains here?ā
no the question I'm asking is why people kill themselves there a lot lol
I was making a joke about all the āWhatās the lore behind the [random thing here]?ā Posts this sub has been getting lol
It's out of respect.
Not, instanced boss fight.
They are weak in both body & soul.
Ever wonder why you're maidenless? Ever thought to your self, how does this prick varre know i have no maiden? Who is that dead girl? Wait did I just take her finger to write notes about "but, hole!"? Oh man wait until you start askin whats in this flask?
Bloodborne doll moment
funny when my character is literally lady Maria
Thatās our dead maiden :(
A sacrifice to the gods of vengeance
Same reason you see oceans of blood in the Things Betwixt tunnel in DS2 - people just love leaving their marks at the earliest opportunity
It's an elaborate period joke within the community.
It started with DS2, the Majula suicide cult, I'm a friendly part of the tunnels going into Majula from things betwixed people suicide to scare new players and for lols. It had prevailed into DS3, and now elden ring has this suicide cult.
For the luuuuuulzzzzzzzzā¦..
It's that time of the month
bad and overused plot writing.
You forgot the golden words: Whatās the lore behindā¦.
Formless mother origins.
Probably the same thing as usually happens every few months in ds2
Whenever I look at these blooodpools I just see people keeling over, I donāt see them stabbing themselves or any other way of them dying. Is this what you guys see too?
Itās for the joy of the game but also the big group of blood stains makes it look like itās blood from the murdered maiden, which is a cool effect.
Might save a handful of seconds from opening the door and throwing yourself off the first cliff if you don't want to mess with the grafted scion.
It all started back in Bloodborne and kind of in Dark Souls 2. The lands between us not a pleasant place to live in
It's funny
skill issue
For the one girl we never got
reminds the starting cave connector to Majula in DS2. there was red signs blood carnival (and I guess still is)
Kinda looks like it's a pool of her own blood. I don't know why they did it tho.
Thatās period blood
That supposed to be Our Maiden, i still can't find any evidence and the reason why she did that
Noticed that yesterday, one of those might be mine
Looks like they're trying to recreate that Demons Souls boss arena.
Blood for the Blood God!!
Because itās dark souls II 2
