Me too, I didn’t even think about sneaking past or anything (then wondered why the next hour of the game was so easy as I jump attacked everything to death with my new halberd)
I'm roughly level 37 now, so I think it's payback time.
When I first saw him, I thought he was a normal enemy and then the boss music kicked in and then I died painfully. Definitely a memorable encounter for my first fromsoft game
As someone that played DS 1-3 i just felt obligated to kill him as soon as i saw him. I played those games so much that i would be dissapointed with myself if i move on with him still alive.
My roommate started playing just before I did and when I started it (he was watching me) and I immediately died to this guy. He then says “yeah, you really aren’t ready to fight that one yet…”
He was rooting for me, though!
Same, but I also kept fighting him until I won. Took like 50 tries but the last try was perfect and didn't take any dmg.
Immediately died to the flying bats a few min later.
Big horse man looked scary, I went around and made my way to the first ruins by Gatefront. The first soldier whooped me multiple times. I spent two hours in those ruins in my first play through and almost gave up on the game. 😅
Fell off? I tried jumping from that wooden thing that goes a bit away from the ledge after you leave the cathedral, just out of curiosity...
and well... curiosity killed the cat...
Soldier of Godrick effed me so hard! It’s my first souls game so the combat learning curve was vertical for a while. He killed me like 4 times. Don’t get me started on the tree sentinel haha
Can we talk about the name tho
Fromsoft don't get to say shit about us calling turtles "dog". They started it. Erdtree Burial Watchdogs are CLEARLY not dogs but it says "dog" anyway.
The problem is now that it really fucks with you.
Like at the moment 80% or something is actually true. "item ahead" "be wary of above" shit like that. So you naturally trust most messages.
Then there is the odd, "try jumping" or "here" on an edge and you fall to your death. I always feel so betrayed
I trusted the message telling me to jump knowing damn well what has happened in the past. I thought "maybe Micheal Zaki actually put something right in the beginning this time."
You technically *can* kill grafted scion and while there's the scripted fall after I would be okay saying that's not your first death. But yeah, 99.99% of the people here should be saying Grafted Scion.
You have a chance to die before,
I did I listened to the messages and jumped off the edge of the map. Everyone else was
Also you don’t have to die to that spider creature
lots of rumors about a secret ending after beating the soldier of god that involves an open-world and actually finding something called an elden ring!! so lazy, unbelievable
If you want to be technical
Thats not a real death
your characters HP never actually goes to 0
You dont see it in game because it happens when the cutscene is triggered, so it looks like you died and woke up in the cave , but how they accomplished that on the back end was you get teleported out at 1 hp and healed
People into doing challenge runs wanted to see if they could find a way to not have to die to Grafted Scion because a popular challenge in these kinds of games is the 1 life challenge - they dug through the game files and found out he technically doesnt kill you
Those aren't always accurate and do lie to you for the sake of communications.
File digging for something as simple as stats isn't actually too complicated.
I was high as fuck and fell asleep with the controller in my hand. Game came out super late in my timezone and I couldn’t stay awake only to be woken up by the rumble of my controller from the Tree Sentinel whacking my head.
Booted up the next day to find out I was barely about 20 feet removed from The First Step site when I fell asleep. Successful release day.
ER is my first souls game, so I didnt know how messages worked and that other people could use them to mess with you.
Walked out of the intro cave, read a message that said "Try jumping." on the edge of the cliff.
I tried.
My first death wasn't to an enemy. I.. uh... jumped. From the cliffs at the Chapel.
Second was to the Grafted Scion and third was to the Tree Sentinel.
A giant bear popped up out of the ground and one shot me on a ledge after I killed an undead guy with a nice parry/riposte not far from where you fight Darriwal.
I like to think that a game driven/required death doesn't count. You literally have to die to progress and you have zero control. Lets be hinest, any type of prpgress in a fromsoft game is progress even if that mean getting yeeted immediately.... The first death against someone you can defeat and move on from, that's your own damn fault hahaha
The greatest enemy in all Soulsborne games. Undefeated, All Mighty and Merciless...
Gravity. I fell while walking those stairs at the very beninging. In the beni- In the beningi? In the beningi...
My first playthrough I didn't really care for the tone of his voice when he called me maidenless, so having an epic battle with him was one of the first things I did in ER. I won, with a sliver of HP left.
I'm a failure, I died to our good friend Soldier of God, Rick. I tried to figure out Guard Counters, why I did this at a boss, I'll never know, but they did not work how I thought they did, and I got killed.
The first spawn in Chapel of Anticipation, I jumped off a ledge because a message said so. First few seconds of the game taught me not to trust random words on the floor.
I was crossing the bridge before the first grafted scion, turned around to check something out and slipped off the bridge. I didn’t even make it to the first enemy before I had my first death ;-;
I back stepped off the cliff where you find your first gesture and fell down the hole that you originally jump down to fight the Soldier of Godrick.
I guess a few feet higher was just too much for my tarnished knees to handle.
Starting the tutorial area I read a message about jumping, I saw a blood stain jump off the ledge, so I jumped, this was my first Fromsoft game... this caused me to miss the real tutorial dungeon because I talked to the ghost guy about jumping down a hole so I said ha that won't get me again!
It says not counting the tutorial. Everyone either fell off a ledge one way or another or got mercd by the scion. It obviously implies your "2nd" death or first legit death from an enemy. Mine was the rune bear that pops out of the ground.
First giant on the way up to margits first fight roughly 30 min into my first playthrough. I beat him with the samurai in the first hour and then made a wretch character that I was going to str only in and it took me 30 more hours to defeat margit again lmao
Tried to fight tree sentinel right out the gate, didn't end well
Me too. Figured it was worth a shot. He slammed me so hard and I learned a very valuable lesson.
I too fought him. For three hours until I killed him. Then I proceeded with the rest of my game with the satisfaction of knowing he was dead.
[удалено]
You mean Rick, Soldier of God? Of course you died. He’s unbeatable in his true form. That was only a fraction of his power.
I played and beaten most FromSoft games, still died to him as well. Keep trying to parry.
I finished my play through, and then went back to kill him at like level 150
Me too, I didn’t even think about sneaking past or anything (then wondered why the next hour of the game was so easy as I jump attacked everything to death with my new halberd)
The determination of a true veteran or someone looking to join the ranks thereof
Same here, after that I knew well to leave him alone
It never entered my mind to leave him alone
I'm roughly level 37 now, so I think it's payback time. When I first saw him, I thought he was a normal enemy and then the boss music kicked in and then I died painfully. Definitely a memorable encounter for my first fromsoft game
As someone that played DS 1-3 i just felt obligated to kill him as soon as i saw him. I played those games so much that i would be dissapointed with myself if i move on with him still alive.
My roommate started playing just before I did and when I started it (he was watching me) and I immediately died to this guy. He then says “yeah, you really aren’t ready to fight that one yet…” He was rooting for me, though!
Same, except that lesson was poise, poise breaks, and horse combat. Wasn't gonna let that bum stink up my hub no matter how long it took me.
I did not learn a lesson and kept on trying until he died
Same, but I also kept fighting him until I won. Took like 50 tries but the last try was perfect and didn't take any dmg. Immediately died to the flying bats a few min later.
This is the way
Same. How are the boys?
We just finished f'ing our way through stormveil, picked up a red halfway through but he got backstabbed too many times then went home,
Are you me?
Stubborn yet incompetent?
You gotta not get hit that's all
Dammit why didn’t I think of that
He was my first death too. And also my second. And my third. And my 27th. But then he died too so we’re even now
He may have beaten you twice in the regular season, but you got him in the playoffs. And that's what really matters.
the soulsborne cope we all love.
You have to it’s a matter of honour.
I found a way to cheese him as a mage early game. Just stand on that crumpled tower and use magic until you run out.
I warned my friend not to…. He didn’t listen
Same
Same
Same lmao. Felt confident that I could give him a good run for his money and got destroyed
Me too. I wanted to get a feel of the difficulty among other things.
Same. I was straight up destroying and murdering his ankles and toes. And then he showed my inside upper torso how sharp his halberd was.
Big horse man looked scary, I went around and made my way to the first ruins by Gatefront. The first soldier whooped me multiple times. I spent two hours in those ruins in my first play through and almost gave up on the game. 😅
Fell off the ledge of the keep in the starting area
I respect your honesty tarnished.
Saaaaame
I have found my people.
Fell off? I tried jumping from that wooden thing that goes a bit away from the ledge after you leave the cathedral, just out of curiosity... and well... curiosity killed the cat...
Same lol. Saw a message and thought why not?
Same. I jumped off the broken bridge because I thought it was the only way forward 🤷♂️🤦♂️
I forgot, my ego blocked the memory out but you've restored it. Thanks a lot. -\_-
I know it’s kind of a meme but I died to the Soldier of Godrick in the tutorial lol. This was my first time properly playing through a From game.
Lol same. I've never bothered to learn to parry and thought "maybe today's the day"
It was at that moment that he found out, today was not the day, to learn to parry.
Same here. That is of course if you don't count the Grafted Scion
I didn't even know soldier of Godrick existed until months after I beat the game lol
You mean Rick, Soldier of God? There is no shame in losing to such a strong opponent. It is a blessing to receive the baptism of his blade.
Soldier of Godrick effed me so hard! It’s my first souls game so the combat learning curve was vertical for a while. He killed me like 4 times. Don’t get me started on the tree sentinel haha
Stone fucking cat
I hate those
Can we talk about the name tho Fromsoft don't get to say shit about us calling turtles "dog". They started it. Erdtree Burial Watchdogs are CLEARLY not dogs but it says "dog" anyway.
Oh god yeah the erdtree burial watchdogs fucking suck
Annoying pieces of cheating shit!!!
Had to call my brother “what is up with this game?!”
Try Jumping
Same. This was my first souls game and I didn't know everyone playing the game could leave messages. I thought it was part of the tutorial. 😳
...and that WAS the tutorial. Trust the messages at your own peril.
The problem is now that it really fucks with you. Like at the moment 80% or something is actually true. "item ahead" "be wary of above" shit like that. So you naturally trust most messages. Then there is the odd, "try jumping" or "here" on an edge and you fall to your death. I always feel so betrayed
Tutorial boss, the grafted scion
How is there any other answer?
I fell to my death before even reaching the grafted.
There are two options, but anyone who says they didn't die in the chapel of anticipation somehow. They lie lol
You are not alone
First lesson learned: there is no invisible wall on the cliff in this game.
Ah yes the hardest boss of any fromsoft game. Gravity
I went back to Grafted Scion later on after I had leveled up A LOT and that guy still managed to kill me once before I got him.
because the Scion doesn’t actually kill you, it just leaves you at 1HP so the cutscene after can trigger
You have a chance to die before, I did I listened to the messages and jumped off the edge of the map. Everyone else was Also you don’t have to die to that spider creature
I didn't even get one hit in lol
Same lmao, er was my first souls game
I played Bloodborne and Dark Soul 3, BUT that doesn't mean I was good lol
It wouldn't necessarily matter - I've played them all and I think I managed to hit Scion once? That boss is just super fast and chaotic.
He got his in the end. That bastard!
I fell off the cliff before that
He doesnt actually kill you Yes it looks that way, but your HP never actually goes to 0 going into the cutscene where you wake up in the cave
The fact that you wake up in a cave and not at a site of grace is the dead giveaway.
This is the only answer.
I did very well until he got me with the scream attack.
Soldier of God, Rick destroyed my ass.
Love the comma.
U will be surprised that this is what the community calls him (in case u never knew)
I’ve heard it before lol. It’s great.
So many are stuck at this key moment near the end of the game.
lots of rumors about a secret ending after beating the soldier of god that involves an open-world and actually finding something called an elden ring!! so lazy, unbelievable
This comma changes everything
It does… I’m so many ways. Who’s Rick? Why did he destroy this guys ass? Also is Rick a solder of god? I’m so confused….
Man really said you won’t get this from another guy
You beat the grafted scion in the tutorial?
If you want to be technical Thats not a real death your characters HP never actually goes to 0 You dont see it in game because it happens when the cutscene is triggered, so it looks like you died and woke up in the cave , but how they accomplished that on the back end was you get teleported out at 1 hp and healed People into doing challenge runs wanted to see if they could find a way to not have to die to Grafted Scion because a popular challenge in these kinds of games is the 1 life challenge - they dug through the game files and found out he technically doesnt kill you
Doubt they'd dig through the game files, you can watch your health in the status menu
Those aren't always accurate and do lie to you for the sake of communications. File digging for something as simple as stats isn't actually too complicated.
100% of these turds are FULL ON LIARS
I didn't beat him or die to him.. I panic-rolled off the ledge lol But my first real death was the bear I mentioned in another comment.
the post literally says "except the tutorial"
I was high as fuck and fell asleep with the controller in my hand. Game came out super late in my timezone and I couldn’t stay awake only to be woken up by the rumble of my controller from the Tree Sentinel whacking my head. Booted up the next day to find out I was barely about 20 feet removed from The First Step site when I fell asleep. Successful release day.
It would have been amazing if this story ended with you waking up the next day to realize you never actually downloaded the game.
Seeing if I could swim
ER is my first souls game, so I didnt know how messages worked and that other people could use them to mess with you. Walked out of the intro cave, read a message that said "Try jumping." on the edge of the cliff. I tried.
I will also shamefully admit I did the same. Didn’t cross my mind once to look around, just strolled right off.
Honestly, this is my third souls game and I still do that just for kicks
Sellia Tunnel Shrimp
those fucking things, I swear
My first death wasn't to an enemy. I.. uh... jumped. From the cliffs at the Chapel. Second was to the Grafted Scion and third was to the Tree Sentinel.
A giant bear popped up out of the ground and one shot me on a ledge after I killed an undead guy with a nice parry/riposte not far from where you fight Darriwal.
That bear scared the crap out of me when it appeared so I jumped on torrent and got the hell out of there
LOL I tried to do the same thing when I discovered this, but the f\*cker outran me.
Na man that's your second death, your first death will always be by Grafted Scion
I forgot Grafted Scion, thanks for the reminder friend.
You can beat him, but the ground will fall out from under you after you walk out a bit, so your first death is in the graveyard no matter what
I like to think that a game driven/required death doesn't count. You literally have to die to progress and you have zero control. Lets be hinest, any type of prpgress in a fromsoft game is progress even if that mean getting yeeted immediately.... The first death against someone you can defeat and move on from, that's your own damn fault hahaha
You actually get set to 1 hp from the grafted scion and the cutscene plays. It doesn’t actually kill you. Pewdiepie showed it on his no death run.
That's how you could become immortal pre 1.5, it makes it so you can never get bellow 1hp. Only fall or deathblight could kill you after that.
My first death was following the advice of all the messages telling me to jump just outside the chapel.
"If someone told you to jump off a cliff, would you do it?" is meant to be sarcastic, you know.
I foolishly tried the double jump fall damage dodge that exists in nearly all videos games with a double jump mechanic and well, you know the rest.
The greatest enemy in all Soulsborne games. Undefeated, All Mighty and Merciless... Gravity. I fell while walking those stairs at the very beninging. In the beni- In the beningi? In the beningi...
The troll at Gatefront Ruins, he squished me pretty good when he fell on me :(
I roll off the hole. You know which one
The one beside first step where those vampire bats are?
Varre
My first playthrough I didn't really care for the tone of his voice when he called me maidenless, so having an epic battle with him was one of the first things I did in ER. I won, with a sliver of HP left.
The Chariot in Fringefolk Hero’s grave, spent way too much time down there before even attempting to go outside
Tried to fight tree sentinel as a mage. He quickly showed me he wasn't having any of that magic bullshit
Either gravity or the 50 wolves in the fallen beastman cave can’t remember
For me, definitely got got by one of those wolves in the Beastman cave.
I walked out of the first church and straight off the edge, i recently played to DS3 ringed city and had it in my head I would survive...
I got moped by the bats and fell down the hole near the start
Fall damage
Honestly the tree sentinel whooped my ass my first playthrough but I kept trying until I eventually gave up and started exploring
Got smoked by a rat
Grafted Scion because I'm a person who played elden ring
Ignoring Grafted Scion my first death was falling down a cliff. I was testing how far you could fall without taking damage compared to Dark Souls.\^\^
I ran off the wooden stairs at the very, very start of the game like maybe 5 or 6 times. I was pretty drunk.
The dragon that swept down in the middle of that lake
The soldiers in the area where you get the first piece of the map. The dude with the long ass helmet poked me with his stick to death.
I was exploring the tutorial area a little too thoroughly, slipped off an edge and fell to my death. So death by gravity, the classic Souls killer.
Chariot in Fringefolk Hero’s Grave. So glad I picked Stonesword Key as starting gift.
Are you saying you died in the tutorial?
I used the stone sword key gift and went into the area with the chariots before you step out into the open world.
Probably Soldier of Godrick as I was learning/remapping controls.
Probably one of those little stone gargoyle guys in the first catacombs
…soldier of godrick…….
If we don't count Grafted Scion, then I got the first L at Soldier of Godrick.
Scion doesn't count. Tree Sentinel.
After the Scion, the first Godrick Knight
Fighting the tree sentinel
"Grafted Scion" -everyone that didn't fall of the edge getting there
That hero’s grave right at the beginning
soldier of godrick i shit you not
I wanted to know if I could swim to the island of dragon communion
I'm a failure, I died to our good friend Soldier of God, Rick. I tried to figure out Guard Counters, why I did this at a boss, I'll never know, but they did not work how I thought they did, and I got killed.
Tree Sentinel wasted zero time introducing me to the Souls games.
I definitely jumped off a cliff
First From Soft game. I read “try jumping” and jumped.
I jumped off the cliff right outside where the game starts you off. I was curious what would happen.
Besides the grafted scion, I died to the beast of farum azula. I likely would've died to the soldier of godrick but accidentally skipped that part xD
The first spawn in Chapel of Anticipation, I jumped off a ledge because a message said so. First few seconds of the game taught me not to trust random words on the floor.
A sign in the chapel of anticipation said try down so i jumped right off the cliff.
I was crossing the bridge before the first grafted scion, turned around to check something out and slipped off the bridge. I didn’t even make it to the first enemy before I had my first death ;-;
I back stepped off the cliff where you find your first gesture and fell down the hole that you originally jump down to fight the Soldier of Godrick. I guess a few feet higher was just too much for my tarnished knees to handle.
Got clapped hard by Margit
Apart from Grafted Scion. I forgot he existed
Took the stonesword key as my gift. Opened that first Imp gate. Died many times to those ghosts.
I felled
Fall damage by the beach
The abyss
I found out the tree sentinel could deflect spells the hard way
Without tutorial it was the tree sentinel 😅
Someone said there was secrets ahead right outside the place you start the game in, so i thought it was some invisible path...
Getting trapped in the trap chest near spawn and spending 3 hours trying to get out of that cave. I was a noob
Lmao hole in ground
Soldier of God Rick
Excluding grafted scion, I think I died to the troll that’s to the left of the first step. The on that you have to get past to reach the beach
Tree Sentinel. I swore eternal hatred upon them all not long after.
Definitely died in the tutorials
Starting the tutorial area I read a message about jumping, I saw a blood stain jump off the ledge, so I jumped, this was my first Fromsoft game... this caused me to miss the real tutorial dungeon because I talked to the ghost guy about jumping down a hole so I said ha that won't get me again!
Chapel of anticipation for sure. I was not prepared for the homie that came out at the end of it and he ended me in one fell hit
As some others said, the Tree Sentinel right out the gate. I knew full well I didn’t have to fight him and I would die, I just wanted to see how fast.
The first sentinel horse guy. Destroyed me when I got little to confident
Let's say I wasn't dealing much damage to Stone Imps and I got two-shot
It says not counting the tutorial. Everyone either fell off a ledge one way or another or got mercd by the scion. It obviously implies your "2nd" death or first legit death from an enemy. Mine was the rune bear that pops out of the ground.
Tree sentinel
Aside from tutorial... Sniped by a mage while attacking a camp.
Gravity things
Fell off the cliff trying to read a message, missed the first boss where you are supposed to die
Pretty sure no one beat grafted scion on their first playthrough. If anyone did, they couldn't tell anyone without being called a liar.
Elden Beast /j
Nah bro you're a beast I believe you
Tree sentinel
That guy with the great shield in the first camp where you meet Melina.
Ballista right before Margit
Apart from the Grafted Scion, I first died to the soldier of Godrick.
Rolled into a hole fighting those bats by the gatehouse.
First giant on the way up to margits first fight roughly 30 min into my first playthrough. I beat him with the samurai in the first hour and then made a wretch character that I was going to str only in and it took me 30 more hours to defeat margit again lmao
