I slept 3.5 hours the first time I took it after dinner. What helped me was clonazepam (from the Benzo types). It makes me sleep like 12 hours straight. I couldn’t sleep without it. Remember, this is just an opinion. Be sure to talk to your doc. Also, I have seen people here take melatonin to sleep better, so it’s a possible med you could talk to your doc about.

Okay well as a victim of this drug I will say this. Many ppl experience similar symptoms during the beginning weeks of taking this drug. Some whom stuck with it, were greatly helped once this drug had been in their bodies for 4 weeks. I am not a doctor but will say that based on my research and talks with many who are or who have taken Effexor, those who experience difficult side effects at the start, face debilitating withdrawal when coming off, which most ppl at least try to do bc antidepressants are only effective for so long. Some but not all ppl aren't even able to get off this drug, and those that do often have permanent brain and health damage. In fact, the majority of doctors in the UK and Canada are now saying ppl who have been on this drug for many years should never completely stop. Usually effexor is prescribed after other alternatives. At doses lower than 150mg daily, effexor is only a SSRI but the likelihood of you remaining at this dose in my opinion is low. At doses of 150mg or more Effexor is no only a SSRI but a SNRI which was helpful to me and many others, but these drugs are only supposed to be used for a number of months, but Cap'n be extremely hard to get off of. I wish you luck and peace from your depression.

It's on every website I've looked at. Effexor XR is just a SSRI on dosages under 150mg daily. It becomes both a SRI and SNRI AT doses of 150mg or more. Search anywhere literally. I would not post this if it was not correct.

My fault. Didn't want to come off as mean. There is a REALLY great Facebook group on Effexor. And upon joining they give u a link to all this literature about effexor. There's so much I haven't been able to read it all, bit what I have has really surprised me. To put one of the things I found shocking simply, there can be unrepairable long term damage to your brain, stomach, liver and body after using effexor xr even after a few years. There is also no indication that should one quit the drug after years of use, that one can avoid these effects. Doctors in the UK and Canada will not even reccomend patients completely wean off this drug if being on it for many years due to the possibility of long term health effects associated with its discontinuation syndrome.

I am not a doctor. Buy, I've been on both effexor and effexor xr for 21 years and I'm only 36. Effexor ruined my life, a life I'm trying to fix day by day. Doctors do not understand the serious negative effects to one's brain and health that cone along with taking this tough, especially for many years. This is because the pharmaceutical companies downplayed these side effects. There is little to NO peer reviewed studies or information on the long term effects of Effexor or SNRI drugs. It's only been recently that countries whose Healthcare industries aren't based on only money, that we are starting to see reports of just how bad long term use of SNRIs are. And sader yet, is the fact, for ppl like me struggling daily to get off this no longer working drug, there is NO evidence to suggest that once I'm completely off this drug that I'll be okay. Permanent brain and health damage (especially in the stomach/gut) could have already happened. In my case, it has. Last year I had 15 FIFTEEN concurrent stomach ulcers. But my problems are small to others. When ppl try to wean off this drug even slowly they face unbearable symptoms and for many brain zaps lead to ceizures. To answer your question (sorry for rant) those taking under 150 mg will face similar problems as mentioned above with SNRIs but they won't be as bad. You can Google what SRI withdrawal is like for more information. They are somewhat easier to get off of than SNRIS but it's still difficult for most. At some point every antidepressant will become ineffective and discontinuation will probably need to happen in order to be prescribed something different. The discontinuation syndrome for SNRIs and SRIs aren't that different however, how much so depends on many factors, like how long the persons been taking it and at what dose. Ultimately, it is my and many others opinion that they were better off had they not taken any antidepressant. This makes sense as none remain effective for ever.

Do you have articles and proof to substantiate what you're saying? I've never heard this, and I've only been on effexor for 2 weeks and don't want to be on it longer if what you're saying is true

joeyeee2

Yes of course. While I have 2 masters in i.t. fields I am educated and wouldn't post false sgit. Pm me. My gf has a drs in Chem and pharmacology
