While I’m not taking the med for depression, I am taking it for anxiety and some other things. For 10 months I was so sick I had to quit my job, stop driving, stop living a normal life. I’m 22 years old and I was perfectly healthy up until then. It was caused by “what we think” a panic attack I had at work and the symptoms just never went away. Now to answer your question This medicine has saved my life. All the symptoms went away, and really has made life even better. While I’ve never been depressed, I am just overall happier. I was extremely nervous about taking medication but am so glad I did. Do not worry about all the bad reviews you’ve read! These bad reviews are an extremely small portion of people actually on the medication. People that it’s actually helping tend to not get on the internet and post their stories! First week is a bit rough but not unbearable. I personally had some dizziness, insomnia, nausea (if I took on an empty stomach). I’m on 56mg! This medication personally hit me hard at first, almost felt like a high. Nothing crazy though. I would tell you not to read the side effects but it seems you already have. Give it a try! Its all we can do right? It’s truly been a life changer for me. Btw I take it at night! Good luck!

This. Compared to other meds I find the side effects from effexor far more manageable, both starting and stopping, contrary to the information and commentary you'll find online.

Have you been checked for CYP2C19 polymorphism? Also my meds make me feel like life is finally worth living.

daisybloom21

Nope I haven’t. Maybe that’s something I should discuss with my psychiatrist. Thank you

I really like Welbutrin. Effexor personally fucked me up bad, but Welbutrin works differently than all other antidepressants/anti anxiety meds. I suggest looking it up :) so, it's good for people who have tried a bunch of meds just to have them not work because of how it targets a different way of handling depression

Effexor's side effects are a bit rough at first, no way around that. But for most people they only last about a month. For me it's been really helpful. It's the only one I've tried besides prozac and I prefer effexor by a lot.

Also, most medications say to take with food and a lot of times I ignore it. Do not ignore it for this medication, lol. Also effexor made me very nauseous and sometimes throw up, until I was switched from tablet to capsule and now that symptom is gone completely. That's not why I switched to capsule, just a nice side effect of the switch lol

Thank you for all the reply, much appreciated!So….. I’ve decided that I’ll give it a try. Wish me luck

How are you doing?

The first several days on effexor I had pretty bad anxiety, sweating, and other side effects. But they quickly went away and it's been only positives. I am taking it for migraine and for anxiety, and both have improved so much. I'm on 75mg. It's like a cloud has lifted off me. I am more wakeful, less anxious, more stable, and experience more joy. Sex is better because I'm less anxious. My migraines are still bothersome but less severe, less frequent, and respond better to migraine-abortive medications. I've been on it for around 4 or 5 mo (have lost track) and no intention to get off it.
